Here's what we're reading, recommending, and revisiting this week.Catherine's library find is a resource that you can most likely find at your own library: Newspapers.com, a repository of archives from all over the U.S. and six other countries. Find your great-grandparents' wedding announcement or read up on crimes like the Panama Hat Heist of 1904.Terri's random recommendation this week is not one, but three books: Two she's recently finished, and one she's just starting. She finished (and loved) A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles and enjoyed Jim O'Heir's memoir about Parks & Rec, Welcome to Pawnee--but suggests skipping the audiobook on this one. And as a dutiful English major, she's now reading Everybody Behaves Badly: The True Story Behind Hemingway's Masterpiece The Sun Also Rises by Lesley M. M. Blume. Mentioned: The TV adaption of A Gentleman in Moscow, which we watched and enjoyed last summer. In the archives, we checked in on an episode from 2019 on parenting best-sellers on Amazon. Guess what? Things haven't changed much in five years!Next week's lineup: Lost S2 E4, "Everybody Hates Hugo," on Tuesday, January 14Shrinking S2 E11, "The Drugs Don't Work," on Wednesday, January 15Weekly roundup on Thursday, January 16Until then (and anytime you're in need), the archives are available.
Each Tuesday, we discuss an older entertainment property, and currently, that's Lost. On this episode, we met a few of the threatening Others that Jin warned us about at the end of the previous episode, re-met a survivor seen previously in flashback, and heard yet again that Locke wasn't always the tough guy he is now. Mentioned: Game show challenges for parents and Mouse Rat's song "The Pit" from Parks & Rec.Next Tuesday, we'll continue with season 2, episode 4, "Everybody Hates Hugo." Tomorrow, it's Shrinking, season 2, episode 10.

Charlie is kind of a bad friend. Ana Lucia seems like a bad leader. But all that is fine because BERNARD!
Lost season two continues onwards as it asks many more questions than it answers, but so far Eric and Daniel are okay with that. We get oriented to the Hatch and learn the smallest tidbits about the Dharma Initiative. We're introduced to the "others" but it turns out they aren't the Others. Daniel is wrong about one of these being a Jin episode. Eric doesn't remember what happened to the rest of the people from the back of the plane. They'll find out more next time!If you enjoyed the show, please leave us a review wherever you listen to it! Hey, you! Quit all that monkeying around and listen to our newest episode! Sorry, I couldn't resist. Don't expect too many amazing puns like that in this movie though. You see, The Jennie Project isn't really about the kind of monkey-related hijinks you would expect from its premise. I know, it is very disappointing. I mean, there are plenty of messes made and silly situations our characters find themselves as a result of their animal companion. However, all of its other elements somehow manage to make all of them far less impactful than they should feel. So much so, that the movie kind of feels like it doesn't even really exist. Not much else to say really, I'm afraid. Oh, there's also some stuff about teaching an ape sign language? Honestly that part isn't as important as interesting as it sounds, but I feel like it is worth a mention. Luke has a pronunciation problem and makes very specific references. Emma flexes her Law & Order knowledge and makes bold claims. Talking Points: This Movie Does Not Really Exist, Mysterious Sciences, A Rough Understanding/Depiction of Africa, Monkey Business, Everybody Hates Hugo, Bypassing Customs, A Graphic DCOM Death, Intellectual Superiority, Chimps In Clothes, Monkey VO, A Disappointing Kitchen Trashing, The Missing Religious Element, The Most Depressing Lab Ever Seen, The Staples Tangent, Monkey Sports, The Dangers of Domestic Chimpanzees, The World's Meanest Primatologist, THE FIGHT, Lea's Spiritual Journey, The Dramatic Treehouse Monologue, Mr. Crap, The Great Letter Caper, The Great Downhill Debate, The Apemergency Room, A Literal Scopes Monkey Trial, The Judge Who Allows Anything, Monkey Heist, Jennie Won't Survive in the Wild

Hugo "Hurley" Reyes experiences echoes of his earlier job dissatisfaction, and he ultimately overcomes this particular source of anxiety. Andrew and M.C. get a little argumentative, probably because they hunger for fried chicken.
Trailer Hitch is back again! Kevin Heyer joins Adam and JP to talk about why everbody hates Hugo. Everybody? Everybody. Even DJ Qualls (probably). Kevin tests his cannibalism detector, Jack continues to be a creep, and everyone falls in love with Rose and Bernard. Jesus is on the phone, and he wants to know about your car's extended warranty.

“Let me tell you something, Rose. We were all fine before we had any potato chips. Now we've got these potato chips, everyone's gonna want them. So, Steve gets them, Charlie's pissed, but not pissed at Steve, he's pissed at me. And I'm gonna be in the middle of it. And then it's gonna be, "What about us?" "Why didn't I get any potato chips?" "Help us out, Hurley. Why did you give Kate the shampoo?" "Why didn't I get the peanut butter?" Then, they'll get really mad and start asking, "Why does Hugo have everything? Why should he get to decide?" Hear how much fun these two guys have discussing LOST and their love for it.
Oh, Hurley. It's so sad how he isn't overreacting to his situation because in his past, he lost friends - or, at least one friend - when he won the lottery, so he's super paranoid about being the one in charge of keeping the rest of the survivors from the food. Charlie doesn't help matters with his attitude, but in the end, Hurley is the best of them all and does the exact right thing. On the other side of the island, we have a bit of a debate about Ana-Lucia, but really we're just happy that Bernard is alive and can't wait for the reunion between him and Rose. It has to happen. The show isn't *that* cruel.
(S02E04) - Hurley is vexed by his new position. He needs to manage the means to nutrition. Sawyer and friends get to know the new batch (who huddle, afraid, inside their own hatch). Hurley throws a party. It’s the place to go, while back in the past “Everybody Hates Hugo.”

Does this episode have the greatest ending in all of LOST? This week, Matt looks back at episode 2x04, "Everybody Hates Hugo." The podcast discusses why Hurley's democratic disbursal of the Dharma food was the right thing to do... then turns to reflect on an episode ending that makes every fan cry as true love is affirmed. Two words: "I'm Bernard." Like what you hear? Say it to the voice mail line at 732-707-1815, tweet LookingBackLost, or email LookingBackAtLOST@gmail.com!
This edition of "The Transmission" follows the Oct. 12 episode, "Everybody Hates Hugo." Hurley's past clouds his mind as he struggles with an assigned task in the hatch, while Jack and Sayid venture deeper into the structure. Michael, Sawyer and Jin are taken by Ana Lucia and the "mysterious island man" to the refuge of the other survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. And Claire, Shannon and Sun share a new secret.
