The crowd? Lost it. On last Tuesday night, five current and five former Falcons swapped helmets for aprons at Fumi Hibachi & Sushi in Duluth, cooking dinner for ten women who’ve battled breast cancer. “It’s a dope event,” said running back Tyler Allgeier. “Seeing their smiles—it’s awesome.” The night, part of the Falcons and Emory Healthcare’s Dazzle & Dine, wasn’t just about food. It was about celebrating resilience. Alexandra French, cancer-free for five years, said, “Tonight reminded me I’m still beautiful, still here, still me.” The women, treated to massages, makeovers, and a shopping spree earlier, walked into the restaurant on a pink carpet, greeted by applause and players ready to grill. From fire volcanoes to flying rice, the players brought their A-game. STORY 2: Beckles to deliver keynote address at KSU Fintech Hackathon State Rep. Arlene Beckles, is set to speak to over 200 students later this month at Kennesaw State University’s Fall 2025 Fintech Hackathon. The event, running Oct. 24-25 at the KSU Center, challenges students to tackle real-world fintech problems—think payment security, compliance headaches, and cybersecurity. Beckles, a member of the Georgia House’s Technology and Infrastructure Innovation Committee, will deliver the keynote, emphasizing the role of young innovators in Georgia’s “Transaction Alley.” The Hackathon offers cash prizes—$4,000 for first place, $3,000 for second, and $2,000 for third—judged by fintech pros and academics. STORY 3: Pipe Dream: Retired teacher Ken Leach upcycles PVC into marine life art Ken Leach didn’t plan on becoming an artist. After 35 years teaching and coaching in Gwinnett County schools, he retired in 2022, unsure of what was next. Yard work? Sitting around? Not his style. Then, while cleaning out his basement, he stumbled on a forgotten gift—a Japanese swan made from PVC pipe, given to him decades ago by a student’s dad. That swan sparked an idea. Now, Leach transforms surplus PVC into lifelike egrets, flamingos, manta rays, and more. His work isn’t cartoony—he’s all about realism, except for the bold, eye-catching colors that make his pieces pop. At Suwanee Fest, his booth won the Mayor’s Choice Award, and he nearly sold out. Leach’s art isn’t just about creativity—it’s about purpose. He’s keeping PVC out of landfills, sourcing materials from plumbers, Facebook Marketplace, and even a guy with a 50-foot trailer full of pipe. Next up? His opponent, Republican Fitz Johnson, didn’t show. “Why didn’t you have the courage to defend your six rate hikes in two years?” Hubbard asked, staring into the camera. “And what’s your plan to lower power bills?” The PSC, a five-member board, oversees electricity, gas, and telecom providers. Hubbard is challenging Johnson for an abbreviated term in District 3, a race born out of a lawsuit that delayed elections and argued statewide voting diluted Black voters’ influence. Hubbard criticized current policies, claiming they favor data centers—huge energy consumers—at the expense of regular customers. He pushed for solar and battery storage as cheaper, more sustainable solutions. The election is Nov. 4, with local races likely driving turnout. The Southern Delta Aquariid and Alpha Capricornid meteor showers are peaking tonight and into tomorrow morning, with optimal viewing conditions expected due to a quarter moon. Observers in areas with low light pollution may see 20 to 30 meteors per hour. Meteor showers occur when Earth passes through comet debris, and these events are named for their apparent origin points in the sky. The Perseid meteor shower will peak in early August but may be less visible due to a full moon. The legendary British cabaret La Clique was formed 20 years ago by Australian David Bates. Growing up on a sheep farm playing the piano, David is now an Olivier Award-winner and tours his Spiegeltent of eclectic acts globally.

This is the way Wikipedia describes Machine Dazzle: "(born 1972) is the stage name of Matthew Flower, an American costume designer, set designer, performance artist and drag queen known for his excessive and fantastical camp, surrealist, queer and maximalist approach."This description doesn't do this creative person justice because his talent, skills and accomplishments are too vast and varied to describe. Pulitzer prize winning theater critic Hilton Als puts it this way in the New Yorker, "...a true theatrical genius, who, under his professional name, Machine Dazzle, has created some of the most inventive costumes and sets I have ever seen. " In this Dr. Lisa session we delve into Machine's immersive process as well as what it was like for him, growing up in a series of small towns as a queer person, how creative problem solving is part of his DNA plus why he doesn't go to therapy. Machine Dazzle was born Matthew Flower, in 1972 in Upper Darby Township, Pennsylvania. The middle child of three sons, Matthew was mostly raised by his mother Deborah, while his father James was away working as an engineer on oil tankers. The family moved to Houston, Texas and then eventually to Idaho Falls, where Matthew felt alienated amongst the predominantly Mormon community. “I was always the tallest and the gayest” Machine Dazzle told Hilton Als when speaking about this period of his life for a piece in The New Yorker. Machine cites seeing the 1980 Olivia Newton-John film Xanadu at the age of 8 as a defining moment that helped shape his view of himself. At the age of 19, he came out as gay to his conservative parents.[2] Machine Dazzle attended and graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, earning a degree in art. In 1994 he moved to New York City and joined the Dazzle Dancers. Machine Dazzle spent this time working a myriad of day jobs, including a position as a jewelry designer and at the non-profit cultural center Exit Art, to support his growing fascination with designing extravagant costumes to wear at night in New York City's clubs such as CBGB and Jackie 60. The origin of the name Machine Dazzle came from dancing in costume at one such club as a Dazzle Dancer. A friend referred to him as a dancing machine, which quickly morphed into Machine Dazzle. As Machine's costumes began to catch the attention of other club kids and eventually he began taking commissions from drag queens and dancers. Julie Atlas Muz asked Machine to design a full show in 2004. In 2008, Machine Dazzle designed the sets and costumes for Lustre, a Midwinter Trans-Fest, starring Justin Vivian Bond. In 2009, he designed Taylor Mac's five hour long The Lily's Revenge. Mac and Machine Dazzle would go on to collaborate extensively throughout their careers.[3]

Hello Rank Squad! In a bit of a break from tradition, and after witnessing an absorbing encounter between Liverpool and PSG at Anfield, we decided this week might be a good one to switch things up and discuss the thing everyone will be discussing come Wednesday morning - the action from the Champions League, so this is the first of two UCL Takeaway episodes that will be with you this week. We start on Merseyside, where football reminded us it's a funny old game. Liverpool were outmatched in Paris last Wednesday, but came away with a 1-0 win against PSG; but on a night where they gave a far better account of themselves at home, they ended up losing the game 1-0 and being knocked out on penalties. Work that one out. We give PSG their due for a mighty performance over two legs, and discuss just how far this very talented side could go in this competition, as well as looking at what Liverpool might have done differently, and where the squad might need to be strengthened to push forwards again next season. Then in Part Two, we move over to the rest of the action, dissecting Barcelona's 3-1 win over Benfica where Lamine Yamal and Raphinha set some more records, as well as Pedri's astounding performance in the heart of midfield.
