Charles is an "ABC" (America-born Chinese) and his parents were from Taiwan. We talked about his experience in high school in California. Surprisingly, he also went to the buxiban (educational centers, 補習班). Unlike many other boys, he joined the marching band! He also shared his internships and educational aspects on high schoolers going into colleges. Are clubs, internships or volunteering experiences important? What was the most meaningful thing for Charles after he looked back? He may not be the aerospace expert now (XD) but he grew into a sincere and dedicated young man now! Definitely, my honor to know you, Charchar! | Find Charles on LinkedIn: http://linkedin.com/in/charlesjslin | IG @charles.linberg | Email: charles.js.lin@berkeley.edu | You might be interested to watch The College Admissions Scandal (2019) on NetFlix |

How do you succeed in business? The current corporate culture showcases power and control from the top to manage down to the bottom, and it influences even how small businesses structure themselves. It’s not working. Charles Koch is chairman and CEO of Koch Industries, one of the largest privately held American companies and who Forbes cites as the 15th wealthiest man in the U.S.. Koch Industries has over 130,000 employees. It’s safe to say he has more experience than most of us in this area. Charles is an influential philanthropist focused on developing effective solutions to social problems. He founded a non-profit organization called Stand Together for just this purpose and its CEO is Brian Hooks. Brian is also president of the Charles Koch Foundation and Charles Koch Institute. They have written a book together called BELIEVE IN PEOPLE: BOTTOM-UP SOLUTIONS FOR A TOP-DOWN WORLD, a message of inclusion and empowerment. They show how every single one of us has a gift we can use to find fulfillment and build a better society. And they show that by coming together, we can tackle our country’s biggest problems and help every person rise. Today we wanted to be uplifting, that doesn't mean we are kind, or nice or even gentle. No no, today we go rougher than ever, Charles brings a real stinker of a movie, or does he? Hello, and welcome to Methods: an exploration in guided prayer and meditation. This episode is part of our Being-With series, a subtle nod to the philosopher Martin Heidegger and his term referencing the Mitsein aspect of being. That the very nature of humanity is to be in relationship to others. We are inauthentic when we fail to recognize how much and in what ways how we think of ourselves and how we habitually behave is influenced by our social surroundings. We are authentic when we pay attention to that influence and decide for ourselves whether to go along with it or not. Today we sit with Dr Charles Stone as we explore his take on what he calls Holy Noticing, an iteration of being mindful in light of the way of Christ. Charles has served for 37 years in ministry. He currently pastors West Park Church in London, Ontario. He founded StoneWell Ministries to serve pastors and churches through coaching and consulting. Welcome back to the Instant Impact podcast with Elyse Archer! On today’s show, Elyse has Charles Specht, a coach at The Permissions Group where he teaches insurance agents how to build a million-dollar book of business. Charles is an expert in helping people stand out against the crowd and rise above the noise in a crowded industry. Charles got his start working as a commercial insurance broker in 2000 before eventually shifting to a consultation position. That entailed helped large businesses oversee the agent they brought on. While he was doing this, he noticed how difficult it was for clients to trust their agents. This is when Charles pivoted into helping agents build trust through their planning and branding. In his industry, it’s often a price game. To avoid getting caught in the rat-race, Charles talks about how he helps his clients focus on their strengths. This can be anything from their passions to what it is exactly their firm can provide. A key part of this is finding a personal micro-niche. His process of finding that niche includes something he calls “C-3” or “Cold Call Carrot.” This is one statement that separates you from your competition. This statement includes who your work is for, what the rewards are, and how you get the job done. Charles also mentions how important it is to know what your client “ceiling” is. As he says, it’s better to go small than to go big. What he means is finding that perfect number of clients you can reasonably service, and build your micro-niche from there. By nailing down who you are trying to help and how you can solve problems they may be having, you can establish trust. Charles shares some actionable things we can do to establish that trust quickly. One of those things is showing prospects a timeline of what working with you could look like. By providing, in writing, specific solutions, trust can be built almost instantly. Another way to establish trust with a prospect is to provide testimonials. If you can say, show, and have other people back you up on what you’re an expert in, you’re much more likely to gain that vital trust. Finally, Charles and Elyse talk about the fine line of how much we put our personal lives out there on social media for everyone to see. For Charles, authenticity is a great way to build trust. People are attracted to transparency because they are able to relate to you on a human level. What you’ll learn in this episode In today’s episode, Charles shares some surprising tips on how to earn the trust of your prospect or existing clients. He gives us a window into how he helps people establish that trust through Cold Call Carrots, a statement of what puts you above the rest. He offers insight into building your brand on transparency and authenticity while providing excellent service through problem-solving.
