Was erzählt dieser Rückschritt? Watty, Christine; Thomey, Emily; Specht, Heike

Ownership mentality can be cultivated and is essential for future generations. Family businesses often have a longer-term view compared to publicly traded companies. Transparency and communication are crucial for the success of family businesses. Spouses play a vital role in the dynamics of family businesses and should be included in decision-making. Wealth should be redefined to encompass well-being and qualitative capitals, not just financial capital. Gratitude, goals, and grit are essential values to instill in children raised in wealthy families. Successful family businesses often have a clear purpose beyond just making money. The transition of family businesses can be emotional and requires careful planning. Empathy is crucial for advisors working with families in transition. I'm Josh Cooperman and this is Convo By Design with a conversation about architecture. Modern architecture, large and small but all spectacular with architect Scott Specht of Specht Novak Architects. Designer Resources Pacific Sales Kitchen and Home. Where excellence meets expertise. Monogram - It's the details that define Monogram ThermaSol - Redefining the modern shower experience. Without steam, it's just a bathroom. Design Hardware - A stunning and vast collection of jewelry for the home! - Where service meets excellence TimberTech - Real wood beauty without the upkeep On a recent city visit to Kansas City, I bought a book in a used bookstore. The book is called The Paris Architect. Published in 2013 by Charles Balfoure. It takes place in 1942 Paris and revolves around an architect and creative architecture used to save Jews from the Nazis. Of course there is more to it and perhaps I will give it the full Booklook treatment at some point. That is for another day, but it got me thinking about the Bauhaus, modern architecture in all its wonderful forms from France's Art Deco, German Bauhaus and Brutalism through concrete forms. It also got me thinking about creative ways architecture can and is used to make life better for those who inhabit, live, work, love in these spaces. I had a conversation with Scott Specht of Specht Novak Architects and we discuss all of this. Specht's work and that of his firm is exceptional examples of Modern Architecture at its absolute best. Per usual, we walk through Scott's projects so check the show notes for a link to their project page and follow along. Everything from the sublime Weston Residence in Connecticut to the fun and funky Carpenter Hotel in Austin. From the Austin Cliffside Residence which is an absolute specimen in creative use of space to the experimental, Next American House. You are going to enjoy the ride. I guarantee it. And you are going to hear all about it, right after this. Thank you, Scott. Amazing. I enjoyed our conversation and cannot wait to see the Next American Home in person. Thank you to my partner sponsors, ThermaSol, Pacific Sales, TimberTech, Monogram and Design Hardware. These partners are amazing companies all who have made a concerted effort to support the design community through education, incentives, events, media and exposure, not to mention a collection of extraordinary products and service to match. Check the show notes for links to each of them so you can see first hand how they can make your design business thrive and your projects exceed expectations. Thank you for listening, downloading, subscribing and sharing the show with your friends and colleagues. Thank you for your emails, show and guest suggestions. By Adam Turteltaub As of January 2024, there's a new Code of Conduct of the Volkswagen Group, replacing one developed in 2017. To understand what led to the latest iteration of the code and the vision behind it we spoke with Silke Becker and Sarah Specht (LinkedIn) of Volkswagen Group Integrity & Compliance. They are part of a team lead by Tina Landsmann, Head of Volkswagen Group Center of Competence Integrity & Compliance Awareness & Qualification and Dr. Kurt Michels, Volkswagen Group Chief Integrity & Compliance Officer. The code was updated to reflect changing times, including the draft European Supply Chain Act. This required a change in content, but the team also chose to update the tone and feel. The language of the document now focuses on “we” and “us”, and it is very proactive, making the document less about what the board or management calls for and is instead about what we as a group are committing to. Each section of the code has a headline that reinforces this message: “We take responsibility for human rights,” “We lead based on our values,” “We like diversity.” The document embraces a magazine style to increase readability, and there is the opportunity to digitally drill down on individual topics, make it a one-stop shop for employees. As the team developed the document, in partnership with individuals around the company from multiple departments, they had several goals in mind. First, it had to be relevant for everyone, whether working in conventional auto manufacturing or battery development. Second, it had to work all around the globe given Volkswagen's global footprint. It also had to be more human. Take some time to see all of these elements and more when you explore the code. Then listen to the podcast to hear the story behind it and, maybe, get some ideas for updating your code of conduct.

It's just different, you really have to specialize in certain things.” - Charles Specht “Without the broker of record letter, the insurance buyer has nothing. They have to wait until renewal to make that switch. It is the insurance buyer's power. Those agents who don't like it might say, well, you're stealing my work. No, I'm not stealing your work, I'm just going to go ahead and give them the right service that they need.” - Charles Specht “If somebody is not good at making phone calls, I'm not gonna try and say cold calling is your new thing. It is just not going to work in the long run. So, everybody's different, every agency is different. The services they have are different and their geographic location is different.” - Charles Specht Resources Mentioned: David Carothers LinkedIn Kyle Houck LinkedIn Florida Risk Partners The Extra 2 Minutes Charles Specht LinkedIn ConstructiveRisk.com
