In this two part series, I interview Mike Grabianowski who has many years of experience monitoring and auditing construction projects. As an employee of Georgia Pacific, a subsidiary of Koch Industries, Mike was tasked with ensuring his company was not overbilled whenever it hired contractors to complete projects. These projects, which could exceed $100 million, were put under a microscope by Mike and his team and he's learned many of the "tricks of the trades" over the years. Now -- he's hung his own shingle and opened his own consulting firm to leverage this knowledge. And he wants to bring his knowledge and skills to the public sector. - Cordelia Scaif May zmarła 14 lat temu, ale ślad, jej dziedzictwo to jest jak to mówią Amerykanie "gift that keeps on giving". Cutting Through the Grime: Unveiling Darren Grimes's Misinformation CampaignIn this episode of "Nut Roast with Neil Sanders," host Neil Sanders dissects the controversial opinions and misinformation tactics employed by Darren Grimes on his GB News show, "The Saturday Five." Sanders provides a comprehensive critique of Grimes, shedding light on his dubious past, his connections, and his role as a mouthpiece for far-right propaganda.Darren Grimes might be a familiar name to viewers of GB News, but his journey in the political and journalistic landscape is riddled with controversy and contradictions. Originally an activist for the Liberal Democrats, Grimes shifted dramatically to support Brexit, working with organisations embroiled in the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Sanders describes Grimes as a "haunted ventriloquist dummy," emphasising his role as a puppet manipulated by hidden hands. In 2016, Grimes helped form BeLeave, a spin-off of Vote Leave, embroiled in the Cambridge Analytica scandal. The use of unauthorised data to influence public opinion is a dark chapter in the history of Brexit, and Grimes was fined for his involvement, although the fine was later overturned. Sanders points out the disturbing connections between Grimes and organisations keen on undermining public trust and manipulating voter behaviour.Grimes's transformation from a pro-EU activist to a pro-Brexit propagandist is stark. His association with the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) and the formation of Turning Point UK, closely connected to Koch Industries, underline his shift towards far-right populism. Sanders describes this transition as a career move akin to Darth Vader's, highlighting the moral and ethical questions surrounding Grimes's motivations.Grimes's current role as a presenter for GB News is seen by Sanders as part of a broader strategy to disseminate far-right propaganda. GB News, funded by think tanks and billionaires with vested interests, is depicted as a hub for bigotry and misinformation. Sanders's caustic humour and sharp critique expose the channel's amateurish and chaotic operations. The focal point of this episode is Grimes's defence of Nigel Farage's statements on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Farage's claim that NATO provoked Russia's actions is vehemently supported by Grimes, despite being widely debunked. Sanders meticulously debunks Farage's statements and exposes them as Kremlin propaganda, reflecting a dangerous alignment with Russian disinformation tactics.Sanders provides critical historical context to counter the narrative pushed by Grimes and Farage. He explains that Russia's aggression in Ukraine stems from long-standing geopolitical tensions, not NATO's actions. The annexation of Crimea in 2014 and subsequent military incursions are rooted in Russia's desire to control Ukraine, not NATO expansion as propagated by Farage and supported by Grimes on GB News.Grimes's performance as a presenter and his handling of the debate reveal his lack of knowledge and preparation. Sanders critiques Grimes's inability to engage meaningfully with complex geopolitical issues, instead resorting to deflection and obfuscation. This is emblematic of a broader trend of misinformation and shallow analysis prevalent in far-right media circles.Sanders doesn't shy away from discussing the darker allegations against Grimes. The claims of persistent sexual harassment of a colleague and the notorious "crafty w**k" incident add to the sordid image Sanders paints. These allegations, true or not, contribute to the negative public perception of Grimes and highlight the ethical void in his professional conduct."Cutting Through the Grime" does more than critique a single GB News segment; it delves deep into the mechanisms of far-right propaganda, the ethical failings of its proponents, and the dangers of misinformation. Sanders's scathing yet insightful analysis lays bare the hollow rhetoric and manipulative tactics of Darren Grimes and his ilk. This episode serves as a stark reminder of the need for critical thinking and informed discourse in the face of pervasive and pernicious misinformation.

Please subscribe now for as little as 5$ and gain access to a community of over 700 awesome, curious, kind, funny, brilliant, generous souls Austin is an expert on agricultural and antitrust policy. During the 2020 presidential campaign, he advised candidates Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Pete Buttigieg on agricultural policy before ultimately serving as Co-Chair of the Biden campaign's Agriculture Antitrust Policy Committee. He is a Fellow of the Thurman Arnold Project at Yale University, an initiative that brings together faculty, students, and scholars to collaborate on research related to competition policy and antitrust enforcement. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Common Good Iowa and the Socially Responsible Agriculture Project. In 2022, The Advocate named him a "Champion of Pride.” He recently published his debut book, Barons: Money, Power, and the Corruption of America's Food Industry, which profiles a series of powerful magnates to illustrate the concentration of power in the American food system. The book has received universal acclaim. Publishers Weekly gave it a Starred Review and the host of Bloomberg's Odd Lots commended the book, remarking that “I have come away with a completely different idea of agriculture that I cannot unsee." The book has received praise from across the political spectrum, including a rave review from The American Conservative. Austin also has a strong track record of organizing conferences and other forums to push the conversation forward on agriculture policy. He recently worked with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to organize a conference and publish a compendium at Yale Law School entitled “Reforming America's Food Retail Markets,” which explored competition issues in the nation's food retail industry. He previously spearheaded other conferences at the Yale Law School, including “Big Ag & Antitrust: Competition Policy for a Sustainable and Humane Food System.” He also created & organized the "Heartland Forum" in Storm Lake, Iowa, the first candidate forum during the 2020 Democratic presidential primary process, which focused on the impacts of economic concentration in rural America. Austin is a 7th generation Iowan. His mother Kathy managed a beauty salon in his hometown of Cedar Rapids before opening her own bakery. His father Scott delivered and merchandised beer for a local, family-owned beer distributor. Austin's passion for agriculture comes from spending weekends working with his Grandpa Frerick. He has held a job since the age of 12, when he started working at the Cedar Rapids Gazette as a paperboy. He attended Grinnell College on merit scholarships and Pell Grants. While in college, Austin wrote two theses on corporate power in Iowa's slaughterhouse communities. After being the first in his family to graduate from college, Austin attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for graduate school on a full academic scholarship. He has since held positions at the Congressional Research Service and at the U.S. Department of Treasury, Office of Tax Analysis, where he published research on executive compensation, pharmaceutical corporate charity abuses, and the growth of concentration in the American economy. “In this eye-opening debut study, Frerick, an agricultural policy fellow at Yale University, reveals the ill-gained stranglehold that a handful of companies have on America's food economy…It's a disquieting critique of private monopolization of public necessities.” --Publishers Weekly, starred Barons is the story of seven corporate titans, their rise to power, and the consequences for everyone else. Take Mike McCloskey, Chairman of Fair Oaks Farms. In a few short decades, he went from managing a modest dairy herd to running the Disneyland of agriculture, where school children ride trams through mechanized warehouses filled with tens of thousands of cows that never see the light of day. What was the key to his success? Hard work and exceptional business savvy? Maybe. But more than anything else, Mike benefitted from deregulation of the American food industry, a phenomenon that has consolidated wealth in the hands of select tycoons, and along the way, hollowed out the nation's rural towns and local businesses. Along with Mike McCloskey, readers will meet a secretive German family that took over the global coffee industry in less than a decade, relying on wealth traced back to the Nazis to gobble up countless independent roasters. They will discover how a small grain business transformed itself into an empire bigger than Koch Industries, with ample help from taxpayer dollars. And they will learn that in the food business, crime really does pay—especially when you can bribe and then double-cross the president of Brazil. These, and the other stories in this book, are simply examples of the monopolies and ubiquitous corruption that today define American food. The tycoons profiled in these pages are hardly unique: many other companies have manipulated our lax laws and failed policies for their own benefit, to the detriment of our neighborhoods, livelihoods, and our democracy itself. Barons paints a stark portrait of the consequences of corporate consolidation, but it also shows we can choose a different path. A fair, healthy, and prosperous food industry is possible—if we take back power from the barons who have robbed us of it.   The Stand Up Community Chat is always active with other Stand Up Subscribers on the Discord Platform.   Join us Thursday's at 8EST for our Weekly Happy Hour Hangout!  Pete on Threads Pete on Tik Tok Pete on YouTube  Pete on Twitter Pete On Instagram Pete Personal FB page Stand Up with Pete FB page All things Jon Carroll  Follow and Support Pete Coe Buy Ava's Art

As a data analytics executive, Dr. Huang is passionate about leading change, building high-performance teams, and helping business leaders see data as an asset in large organizations. First, Dr. Huang defines the employee experience as various aspects of work, from physical environments to manager interactions and digital work capabilities. She emphasizes the importance of measuring employee experience beyond physical space and attendance and suggests surveys and feedback tools to gauge workplace culture and gather recommendations. Then, we explore the challenges and apprehensions that can arise when introducing survey data to the workplace, including concerns about legal action and the fear of uncovering uncomfortable truths. For architects, we address the common fear about not being able to afford an immediate solution for desires such as taking time off. Dr. Huang shares advice for effectively communicating with architecture leaders who are reluctant to engage in surveys due to these fears, yet recognize their need for growth. She believes leadership needs timely action, collaborative problem-solving, and transparency to drive change. It comes down to communication. Fundamentally, as humans, we all need to be heard, whether at home, in a relationship, or at work. For employees to feel heard, instead of ignoring the elephant in the room, why don't we ask about it and then come up with some solutions? It may not be the perfect solution, but I think the leadership team should come from a place of genuine care, communicate that back to the employees and say, "We heard you." - Dr. Serena HuangTo wrap up the conversation, Dr. Huang shares her perspective on employees and leaders navigating their career alongside their mental health management. It requires a delicate balance of creativity, strategic planning, and understanding human psychology. W'll explore the insights shared in a thought-provoking conversation about the intricacies of crafting unforgettable moments. Standing Out in a World of Distractions In today's fast-paced world, attention is a scarce commodity, with countless stimuli vying for our focus.Standing out amidst this noise requires more than just grabbing attention; it demands creating meaningful connections that resonate emotionally and personally. Memories, unlike fleeting moments, endure because of their emotional and sensory depth, emphasizing the importance of personalization and authenticity over mere branding. Peak Experiences: Lessons from Disney Disney's strategic approach to creating peak moments illustrates the power of anticipation and immersion in enhancing experiences.Peak experiences, carefully crafted and strategically placed, have the potential to elevate an event from ordinary to extraordinary, leaving a lasting impression on attendees. However, the failure to deliver on promised peak moments can lead to disappointment, underscoring the importance of managing expectations and consistency. Transformative Event Design: Overcoming Negative Forces Designing experiences goes beyond logistical planning; it involves understanding and mitigating negative forces that detract from engagement. Isolation, exhaustion, and distraction pose significant challenges to fostering meaningful connections and participation. CPAC is 50 years old.  In 1974 a small gathering of conservatives listened to Ronald Reagan as he gave the inaugural keynote speech in which the Presidential hopeful used it to share his vision for the country.  For the last 10 of those years Matt Schlapp has been at the helm of CPAC as it has grown and expanded beyond the borders of America and become global.  Matt joins us to discuss what this journey has been like, how and why it has expanded internationally to Brazil, Israel, Hungary and Japan to name but a few.  What is its relationship with the Republican Party who has a difficult association with Trump and where does media fit into CPAC's vision?  With the collapse of Fox and the rise of alternative media Matt tells us how CPAC is harnessing this new digital landscape. On June 19, 2014 the board of the American Conservative Union unanimously voted to elect Matt Schlapp as the ninth Chairman of the nation's oldest and largest conservative grassroots organization. From 2001 to 2005, he served as President Bush's political director during the re-election and previously as his deputy political director. During the 2000 presidential campaign he was a Regional Political Director with oversight of Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas, and Oklahoma. Matt left the White House to run the Washington, DC offices of Koch Industries, a company headquartered in his hometown and known for their philanthropy to free market causes. Matt's Congressional experience began during the historic Republican wave of 1994 where he served Representative Todd Tiahrt (R-KS) as Chief of Staff for 5 years. During his tenure, Tiahrt averaged an ACU rating of 98%.   Matt's political activism first took root at the University of Notre Dame, where he started a conservative student magazine. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame (B.A.) and Wichita State University (M.P.A.) Matt and his wife Mercedes have five daughters. Founded in 1974, CPAC is the nation's oldest conservative grassroots organization and seeks to preserve and protect the values of life, liberty, and property for every American. This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette Digital News Desk, and I'm here with your update for December 20, 2023.According to the National Weather Service it will be a pleasant, sunny day in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday, with a high of 46 degrees. Koch Industries will pay $3.6 billion to buy the Iowa Fertilizer Co., one of the world's largest modern fertilizer companies, amid surging profits for the industry.OCI Global, the parent company for the plant located in Wever in southeast Iowa, announced the sale Monday to Koch Ag & Energy Solutions, saying the transaction will reduce debt for OCI, make money for shareholders, and allow future investment for the multinational firm. The sale is pending U.S. antitrust approval. The Iowa Fertilizer Co. combines nitrogen from the air with hydrogen from natural gas at high pressure and temperature to produce ammonia, which binds the nitrogen to make fertilizer. When the plant opened, owners said they planned to produce up to 2 million metric tons of fertilizer a year.Koch Industries, based in Wichita, Kan., is one of the largest privately-owned companies in the world. It was founded by Fred Koch, father of brothers Charles and David Koch. The Koch brothers are also very active in political circles, funding many conservative candidates and organizations, including the Americans for Prosperity– a super PAC that has an influential presence in Iowa.Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds told a Bettendorf audience this week that former President Donald Trump is "misleading Iowans" with his campaign's recent ads highlighting her past praise.Reynolds this fall endorsed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for the GOP presidential nomination — and has faced Trump's ire for it.Earlier this month, Trump's campaign launched a six-figure ad buy in Iowa that touts Reynolds' past support for Trump. The TV spot features a montage of Reynolds applauding Trump and his administration's policies at previous rallies. In a Monday campaign event for DeSantis, Reynolds said Trump was "misleading Iowans" and that she has "absolutely endorsed Ron" and is proud of her endorsement."He thought he was entitled to my endorsement and nobody is entitled to anything," Reynolds said. "You have to step up. You have to earn it, you have to make your case."According to reporting from the Associated Press, the Colorado Supreme Court on Tuesday declared former President Donald Trump ineligible for the White House under the U.S. Constitution's insurrection clause and removed him from the state's presidential primary ballot.Colorado's highest court overturned a ruling from a district court judge. That judge's ruling stated that Trump was part of inciting an insurrection for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, but it was unclear if the insurrection clause applies to the presidency.Trump's legal team has already said they will appeal the ruling to the United States Supreme Court in hopes he can be reinstated on the ballot. If Trump is the Republican nominee, he would likely have an uphill battle winning in Colorado anyway. The main danger for his campaign would be if other states used Colorado's decision as precedent to remove him from ballots in their states.

In this episode, Jeff, Cale, and David discuss: How investment banking has changed over the last few decades. Utilizing private equity to build businesses.Creatively solving problems to serve others. Using your business acumen to support your philanthropic endeavors.   Key Takeaways: You never know who you can build relationships with as you go about your business. Those relationships will often prove valuable as you get further into your career. In the midst of the struggles, everything feels like the world is going to end. But things often turn around. In the struggle, you must convey reality to your team, but you must also give them hope. Work-life balance is particularly important for people of faith, but we still need to reach high and look at our careers as service to the Kingdom. A lot of people have good ideas, the difference-makers are the ones who act on it.   "We live in a world today where Christians need to be in positions of leadership more so than ever before. Regardless of what your profession is, whether it's the accounting world, investment banking, law, medicine, or politics, if we want to make a difference in this world, we got to be aggressive people. McDonald's, BP, Netflix and hundreds of other companies have enlisted in the West's pushback against Vladimir Putin. Since the start of Russia's invasion, several hundred U.S. companies have announced plans to withdraw from or step down their operations in the country. The idea, says Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, a professor at the Yale School of Management, is to make Russia such a pariah that Putin is forced to back down.Sonnenfeld, who's been called a “C.E.O. whisperer,” is working with his team to compile a corporate watchlist for Russian engagement that effectively serves as a hall of fame, and a hall of shame. In this conversation with Kara Swisher, he discusses when business blackouts will reach a tipping point and result in real change — the way the anti-apartheid boycott did in South Africa.Kara and Sonnenfeld debate whether a “South Africa moment” is possible when big companies like Koch Industries refuse to leave and when China's ascendance presents a completely different economic context. They also discuss domestic cases of corporations taking a stand on politics, from Disney's fiasco with Florida's so-called Don't Say Gay bill to the backlash over voting rights bills in Georgia. And Kara asks Sonnenfeld whether morality should really be the business of C.E.O.s. “When people say to C.E.O.s, get back in your lane,” he replies, “this is the lane of business.”You can find transcripts (posted midday) and more information for all episodes at nytimes.com/sway, and you can find Kara on Twitter @karaswisher.
