First-run syndication in the 1980s was a blessing for numerous sitcoms that might not have gotten a fair shake from the networks--Too Close for Comfort, Mama's Family, Out of This World.  Charles in Charge had a similar fate.  It didn't find enough eyes on CBS, but give it a year and a half, and it would become a comedy staple of the late 80s and early 90s.  Alas, Jamie Widdoes did not make it to the successful syndicated run.

But despite being one of the more popular shows of the late '80s, if you were to start watching the show again from the first episode the majority of you would have a hard time remembering most of the cast. Boy Meets World is the coming of age story about a boy named Cory Matthews. A young boy from Philadelphia who has the misfortune of living next door to his teacher. Show creator Michael Jacobs already had a string of success after developing such hit shows as, My Two Dads, Charles In Charge, and Dinosaurs. For his next show he wanted to be able to created a show from the perspective of the middle child of the family, where nearly every other show would focus on the parents or oldest sibling. He also wanted to do so in a way that didn't talk down to kids so much. From this the "Untitled Ben Savage Project was born. After a few early cast changes and a more suitable name for the show Boy Meets World premiered on ABC's TGIF lineup and remained there throughout its entire 7 season run.
