In this episode of The Shift Health Coach Podcast, Laura sits down with Adam Lazarchak, Principal of Bethlehem Area Vocational - Technical School (BAVTS), to explore how today's tech schools are doing more than just teaching trades—they're building tomorrow's workforce by embedding work ethic into the culture. They dive into how work ethic affects work-related stress, why professional skills matter as much as technical ones, and how BAVTS innovative grading structure is shifting the narrative for students who may struggle academically but thrive in reliability, consistency, and showing up with heart. You'll hear candid conversation around generational differences in the workplace, the impact of technology (hello, phones at work!), and how real-world boundaries, culture-building, and even celebrating Leap Day birthdays are preparing students for long-term success—not just jobs.

2/12 Leviticus 4* - Sin Offerings: Getting Right with God

Key Chapters in the Bible

When we sin, how do we make things right with God? Well, the answer might surprise us, because as we look at Leviticus 4, we'll see that not every sin could be forgiven through the sacrificial system; which will underscore just how important it is that Jesus died for all of our sins. Join us in this important study on this challenging passage!  DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1.    Leviticus 4 talks about what to do when specific people within the community sin, specifically the anointed priests in verse 3, the entire community in verse 13, a leader in verse 22, and the common person in verse 27. How did a person's relationship to the community affect the kind of guilt that they might bring upon that community?  2.    Leviticus 4 contains the first occurrence of the word “forgiveness” in the book of Leviticus. How did the podcast explain what forgiveness is? According to verses 20, 26, 31, and 35, how was forgiveness obtained for the people who sought it? 3.    The word “atonement” is literally “at-one-ment”. Who are we “at one with” and what does this mean? According to verses 20, 26, 31 and 35, how was atonement achieved? The podcast spoke about how the root idea of “atonement” was that of “covering.” In these sacrifices, what was being covered? What was it being covered with? How does this help us understand the concept of atonement that we have in Christ?  4.    What were some of the reasons given in the podcast for why an animal had to die in order to achieve atonement? How does this help us understand Jesus' death in our place? If Jesus has suffered the death that our sins deserve, what does that mean for us and our life?  5.    According to verse 2, what kinds of sins were being addressed here? What does Numbers 15:29 say about intentional sins? What do you think it would have been like to carry this weight of intentional sin around? How does 1st John 1:7 or Colossians 2:13-14 address this in the New Covenant?  6.    How is Christ's sacrifice a fulfillment of the Sin Offering discussed here in Leviticus 4? How is Christ's sacrifice even greater than the provision of this sacrifice here? How can we praise Christ for the offering He has made for us? Professor Tim Evans of Middlesex University says that there was much in Rachel Reeves's recent speech, including her desire to see expansion at Heathrow, that was sensible and should have been done years ago by the Tories. But there was no realisation that her Budget had been disastrous, particularly on taxation. The Conservatives, though, are going about opposition in totally the wrong way and should recognise that there is a higher calling. With Trump's issuing of so many Executive Orders – so many his opponents will have trouble pushing back on all of them – he feels that America has almost discovered a monarchical system of government. But although some Europeans may be envious of the can-do spirit, he worries whether the polarisation of American politics may portend darker days ahead. Learn more about your ad choices. The 3WHH bartenders raise their glasses high for the first 100 hours of Trump II, which bid to replace FDR's famous "Hundred Days" for breathtaking executive action. You'd think that this is Trump's first term, and metaphysically, Steve argues, it is. In just the way we've come to expect of Trump in all things, he may have turned the usual presidential cycle on its head. Even John, champion of executive power, is impressed. And one more miracle: he actually gets rare praise from Lucretia for his Newsweek article concluding than Biden's pardons were much worse than Trump's blanket pardons or all the J6 protesters. From there we get to the main event, a three-part discussion of a single issue—in this case free speech and how to understand the First Amendment correctly. Steve argues back to first principles, in which the freedom of conscience and thus free expression was grounded in reason, that is, free speech was essential to deliberation about right and wrong, and how we should be governed. By nearly imperceptible degrees, in the 20th century the protection of "free expression" was re-grounded in moral skepticism (if not nihilism), which is why nude dancing and F-bombs on t-shirts became "protected speech." This is not progress. From there we move on to wondering if the time has come to revisit the libel standard of New York Times v. Sullivan, which has enabled our mainstream media to behave with increasing recklessness. And we think: Yes! Yes it is.And along the way, some digressions into Animal House, Spongebob Squarepants, and other cultural totems. And we depart briefly from our new proprietary bumper music from Cosigner to use a very topical old tune (from lefties!), "Immigration Man."

In this message, Pastor Dan delves into the profound themes of justification by faith and God's grace as presented in the Book of Romans. Imagine a life where all your debts are miraculously paid off, leaving you free and unburdened. What if this incredible act of grace required nothing in return but friendship and love? This scenario sets the stage for an exploration of the Apostle Paul's letter to the Romans, where the core message is that we are justified by faith, not by our works. Join us as we take a thematic journey through Romans, understanding that God's righteousness is supreme and that His grace is a gift that transcends any debt we could ever owe. Through Paul's teachings, we learn that our response to God's grace is obedience and faith, not out of obligation, but out of a deep desire to emulate the one who has freed us. Discover how this transformative news can change our lives and guide us in our daily walk with Christ. As we unpack the significance of the New Covenant and the role of faith, we challenge ourselves to live lives that reflect our devotion to God. This episode encourages us to embrace the promise of eternal life, and let our faith be evident in our actions and interactions. Tune in to uncover how the grace of God offers hope and a new way of living that extends beyond any earthly measure.

Donald Trump is very popular in rural America. Drive down a rural stretch of road, and you are still likely to see Trump flags waving in the breeze or the Trump logo painted on the side of a barn. Rural parts of America have always been conservative-leaning. But Republicans now dominate rural politics from the top of the ticket to the bottom. There have been plenty of books written about how and why Republicans, and Trump in particular, have thrived in rural parts of the country. Our guests today have one of the newest additions to the mix. Dan Shea and Nick Jacobs are professors at Colby College, and their book is “The Rural Voter: The Politics of Place and the Disuniting of America.” Dan and Nick conducted 10,000 surveys of rural voters. They dug into hundreds of years of voting history to try and understand the voting patterns we are seeing today, and to provide a more nuanced picture of rural voters.

On today's show, Super Bowl LVIII is in the books, along with another NFL season, and we all suddenly have a lot more free time on Sundays. The Big Game started slow but ended with a performance by Patrick Mahomes worthy of the Vegas stage they were on. Mahomes was every bit the smart gambler; he folded a few hands, stuck with his system and in the end, hit the jackpot late in overtime, but as many people seem to want to blame the Niners for the loss as give the Chiefs credit for the win. We'll play the blame game with the Niners like fans are doing all over the Bay Area, but what I take away from this one is that they just ran up against history and legacy in Mahomes. Plus, our Warriors are back to .500 and hope remains alive at the Chase Center, but with 30 games left to play, is the upside enough to promise the deep postseason run we all want to see? Steph is on a heater, Draymond is on his best behavior, the rookie Pods is precocious, Kuminga has made the leap, GP2 is back and basketball is fun again, and it's past time to deep dive into some Bay Area hoops as we head into the All-Star break. So sit back, the Chiefs are champs again, All-Star Weekend is here and we're breaking down how it's all unfolding, next on the Roundup Podcast so let's get rolling . . .

2/12 Leviticus 4* - Sin Offerings: Getting Right with God

When we sin, how do we make things right with God? Well, the answer might surprise us, because as we look at Leviticus 4, we'll see that not every sin could be forgiven through the sacrificial system; which will underscore just how important it is that Jesus died for all of our sins. Join us in this important study on this challenging passage!  DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: Leviticus 4 1. How do countries outside America support families and therefore lighten the mental load? What do nordic countries do to support families:Baby boxes with important newborn items to set families up for successPaid parental leave In Norway, parental leave is paid at full pay for the first 44 weeks or at 80% if parents opt to take 54 weeks. To encourage both parents to play their part, fathers must take at least six weeks' parental leave or risk the family losing payments for the same period.Free universal childcare from 18 mo - 7 yearsCapped childcare costsStrong gender equality in the workforce:Gender quotas legislate for a 40% female presence in the country's parliament and on business boards, resulting in a strong female presence – Norway's prime minister, minister of finance and minister of foreign affairs are all female, while women make up 41% of the C-suite.What happened to America?"Ronald Reagan: by 1980 the Moral Majority, the main Evangelical lobby, had almost half a million members (Diamond 174).2 These new activists had three priorities, and they were directly related to the sexual revolution of the 1960s and the issue of women's rights: the denunciation of homosexuality, the fight against abortion (which was famously declared constitutional by the Supreme Court with its Roe v. Wade decision in 1973), and the rejection of the ERA (the Equal Rights Amendment) (Martin 162-166, 193-194). In the late 1970s, Ronald Reagan quickly understood the incredible electoral potential of the Christian Right."These policies all hold women back economically by making childcare unaffordable (which means we have to puzzle piece it together).Once covid hit, moms were spending five hours a day more on chores than menHit women of color especially hard bc there are stricter gender normsWhen we're faced with this onslaught of policies that harm more than they help, we decide to leave the workforce. The nation loses a major economic factor:Household earnings therefore spending go downCompanies lose more workers and therefore innovationWhy don't we view it as economically beneficial to support families?America's lack of family support rests on a false assumption: that providing help discourages parents from taking responsibility for their children. And while other wealthy countries spend an average of $14,000each year per child on early-childhood care, the U.S. spends a miserly $500. Underlying each of these bleak truths appears to be the same, misguided belief: that government support for parents is at odds with parents being responsible for their kids.Helping parents is not the same as parenting, and support does not replace real-life parents. Why do we think tough love is good for families as policy?Treating parenting with punitive punishmentWhat are the good things to come from supporting families and why should we care?We know that in countries with greater gender inequality just closing the gap in women's labor force participation could increase economic output by an average of 35 percent. New Mexico used $77 million in American Rescue Plan Act dollars to create the Competitive Pay for Professionals (CPP) program to fund $3/hour pay increases for an estimated 16,000 child care staff.37 Iowa used $30 million to provide $1,000 and $2,000...

Purity culture failed us and *effed* us big time and Ellen Young and I share plenty of examples to prove it. Some highlights: tingly "devils lube", a girls camp chant about growing bigger boobs and sexually impure women being compared to a poopy brownie (you read that right) during Sunday school. It's a wild ride! Ultimately, as Ellen says herself "pleasure is a human right" and we're all trying to figure out how to reclaim that energy and undo all the other stuff.
