Modern Parenting isn't a cake walk. Whether it's a toddler throwing a tantrum in the candy aisle or a teenager's emotional outburst after a heated disagreement, there are moments when every parent feels the urge to react strongly. The urge to escalate comes from a natural place — frustration, fear, or a desire for control. But escalation — yelling or reacting emotionally — rarely leads to a constructive outcome. In fact, it often makes things worse. Yelling doesn't help in parenting, at least not in the long term. While it might grab a child's attention in the moment, it often leads to – fear instead of understanding, emotional distance, poor behavior, or even escalation. So, when such tough parenting moment arise, how to not lose our calm? In today's episode, we will talk about how to handle hard moments with grace and strength.Related topics:Transformational Vocabularyhttps://spotifycreators-web.app.link/e/pfHz6jp9zTbPower of Pausehttps://spotifycreators-web.app.link/e/yR6ZjZpaATbFeel free to reach out to me:Instagram: alpanabapatTwitter: alpana_deoFacebook: MothersGurukulLinkedln: Alpana DeoBlog: www.mothersgurukul.com

Clinical Psychologist, Dr Tara Porter, has worked with children and adolescents for over 25 years, including as the lead of a NHS CAMHS Psychology Team. She has seen first hand the increase in children being referred to these services, and has written a new book based on what she believes are some of the root causes of the problems that children - and parents - are struggling with today. Tara does not profess to have all the answers, or to be the perfect parent herself; far from it, the focus of her book is on parenting that's “good enough” - not perfect. She explains to Gabby the reasoning behind this, and how the strive for perfection has caused a disparity between opportunities and expectations, which is harming both parents and children. As well as explaining what she's come to see as her three principles of “good enough” parenting, Dr Tara answers some of your questions including how best to support your child through exam stress, and how to help your child navigate friendships and school dynamics. They also discuss some of the issues raised in the recent Netflix series, Adolescence, and her take on how to approach the issue of smartphones with your children to try and ensure they stay open about what's going on in their digital world. Dr Tara's new book Good Enough: A Framework for Modern Parenting is available now, as is her debut You Don't Understand Me: the Young Woman's Guide to Life. Moms, I don't know about y'all, but I am over it—the busy-for-the-sake-of-being-busy nonsense, the never-ending school events that do nothing but stress parents out, and the homework that somehow becomes my responsibility. Who decided we needed a themed snack day every other week? And don't get me started on the over-scheduling—kids don't need another enrichment class, they need to go play in the dirt. This week, I'm breaking down why less is more when it comes to motherhood and why I refuse to let society guilt me into running myself ragged. We're talking about the pressure to be a “productive” mom, why school uniforms are an underrated blessing, the problem with tech, and why our kids deserve to just be kids.If you're tired of the modern mom rat race and just want to raise good, grounded kids without losing your damn mind, this episode is for you. Modern parenting experts are saying some pretty bizarre things. Is it truly good for children to get a sense that they're not in charge? Or does parental authority somehow limit their freedom of expression? Is the chief aim of parenting to create a "safe" environment for our kids? Should we force our kids to create their own version of good and evil? We answer these questions and more on today's podcast. Your extraordinary marriage starts here: www.thedadedge.com/25questions Today, in this week's Friday Fatherly Fumbles, First Downs, and Field Goals, Larry Hagner draws from his decade of podcasting experience and 18 years of raising sons to address the critical challenges of raising boys in today's world. The discussion delves into the delicate balance of fostering resilience in boys by allowing them to take risks and embrace failure, while also teaching them to be both kind and capable of self-defense. Larry Hagner shares practical insights on guiding boys toward meaningful achievements, from completing challenging tasks to developing spiritual leadership, all while navigating the distractions of modern technology and maintaining focus on what truly matters in their development. www.thedadedge.com/friday189 www.thedadedge.com/alliance www.thedadedge.com/squire www.thedadedge.com/daddydaughter www.themensforge.com
It is SO strange that a new parenting trend emerges every 5-10 years. For generations, there was basically just "parenting"...passed down from one generation to another. Multi-generational wisdom, essentially...very Family Teams. But with the disintegration of generational families and the rise of hyper-individualism, parents these days are left to come up with their own methods, focusing a little on this, then a little on that. Not only is it dangerous to use an untested parenting method, MOST of them that come out these days (formerly in books, now often via social media influencers), are extremely secular and certainly not wise (the fear of God being the beginning of wisdom...). Jeremy digs into this issue, and how to root yourself in a solid Biblical understanding of fatherhood and motherhood, joined by his wife April and Donna Cheung. On this episode, we talk about: 0:00 Intro 0:48 The rise of "parenting trends" 2:35 Why modern culture has led to so many different parenting philosophies (clip) 8:30 The risks of being a young mother in the information age 19:10 Why most parenting studies are bunk and how to weigh advice 26:44 Potential for deception, especially with secular parenting books 32:37 Don't go down the "way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death" Follow Family Teams: Facebook: https://facebook.com/famteams Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/familyteams Website: https://www.familyteams.com Resources Mentioned: Hunt, Gather, Parent by Michaleen Doucleff, PhD Maiden, Mother, Matriarch Podcast Clip The Case Against The Sexual Revolution by Louise Perry Family Plan Calendar --- Hi, welcome to the Family Teams podcast!
