Interview by Kris PetersFeeder delivered two monster albums in a row, 2001's Echo Park and 2002's Comfort In Sound, establishing themselves as one of the UK's biggest and most loved rock acts. But that was merely the beginning. While most of their peers faded away, Feeder cemented their place as one of the most enduring acts in modern rock with over 20 million albums sold, multiple number 1 albums in the UK charts, and a legacy of unforgettable live performances.Always masters of marrying the light and the dark, illuminating the shadowy corners of their world to uncover something poignant and uplifting, their anthemic alt-rock songs packed with emotional depth and intensity have earned a devoted fan base around the globe.Feeder continue to cement their legacy with their latest release Black/Red, a double album, which is the final instalment of a trilogy of albums with and the final two parts to Torpedo.Equipped with an unrelenting barrage of rock anthems such as Buck Rogers, Feeling a Moment, Just a Day, Just the Way I'm Feeling, Come Back Around and High, Australian fans are set for an incredible treat when the Feeder juggernaut rolls across the country in April. When HEAVY spoke with frontman Grant Nicholas, he spoke more about Feeder's first Australian tour in 14 years, starting in April, after previous attempts were hindered by scheduling conflicts. He emphasized the band's dedication to creating timeless music rather than following trends and expressed excitement about the lively Australian crowds, which he compared to Scottish audiences. Nicholas discussed the challenge of developing a set list that balances new songs from their latest double album, Black/Red, with classic fan favourites, aiming for a performance that feels like a blend of a new album tour and a festival best-of set.He reflected on the significance of releasing a double album after 30 years in the industry, noting it as a major achievement, though he may not pursue another. Additionally, he shared insights into Feeder's formation in the early 1990s, highlighting their hard work and commitment to maintaining a unique identity amidst a competitive music scene, and invited fans to join them for what promises to be memorable shows.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Welcome back to another exciting episode of Trve. Cvlt. Pop!, a pop music podcast. On this week's show Steve and Gaz are joined by Kerry from garage rock trio The Baby Seals, who takes our 5 album challenge and picks some killer, KILLER music from the likes of The Spice Girls, PJ Harvey, Lauryn Hill, Princess Nokia and Steve Hillage. We also look back at a classic UK rap-rock... maybe nu-metal...(?) banger from Mark B & Blade with Feeder's Grant Nicholas, plus Everton manager Sean Dyche has told everyone that they MUST go and see Green Day... we're not sure we agree, but we're not going to argue with the gravel voiced, ginger hardman. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

In episode #72 of The XS Noize Podcast, Mark Millar catches up with Grant Nicholas from Britrock veterans Feeder about their new album Torpedo. Torpedo is the follow-up to 2019's Tallulah which peaked at #4 on the Official UK Albums Chart, becoming their highest charting album since 2005's Gold-Certified Pushing The Senses. They've hit upon a run of three consecutive Top 10 albums and On Torpedo we find the band emerging from one of the most inspired periods of their career. The last year's downtime gifted the band extra time to play with demos, experiment with textures and re-discover what they loved about writing music together again. They return inspired by the new - and craving that feeling of excitement of being a band again. In this interview, Grant Nicholas talks about their brand-new album Torpedo, songwriting, upcoming shows and much more.

When it comes to longevity, Feeder keeps coming back around, and the guitar-rock scene is all the better for it. It was back in January 2001 that “Buck Rogers” reached number five on the UK chart (the song remains a radio standard even in its 21st year). Grant Nicholas originally wrote the song to impress producer Gil Norton in the hope he would be persuaded to work with Feeder. Buck Rogers contains a big guitar riff and stream-of-consciousness lyrics about being jealous of his rival's brand new Jaguar (with a CD player) and whatever else came into his drunken head. Including drinking cider from a lemon.Having a bona fide top five hit was never going to put Grant Nicholas under any pressure to repeat the trick. Songs just pour out of him and while not all of them are as catchy as Buck Rogers, Nicolas knows his way around a melody and a soaring, anthemic chorus as well as any songwriter in the business. When we spoke on The Art Of Longevity I asked Grant how come he hasn't often been asked to write for others (he has only a little, and I hesitate to suggest he could do more, not wishing to worry Feeder fans we'll lead him astray). It remains an option, always. Feeder may not be fashionable but they have made it through the music industry mangle - achieving chart success, playing arenas and having made a bunch of very good albums (with Comfort in Sound a genuine rock classic). These days it's all about the joy of new songs and playing to the fans. Nicholas and his co-founder member/bassist Taka Hirose soldier on as Feeder through thick and thin, yet they operate with an enthusiasm and energy befitting of any up & coming rock band blossoming for the first time. Where a lot of their contemporaries have fallen by the wayside, Feeder stayed on the bus, and it turned out to be a magic bus!Support the show (https://www.songsommelier.com)

Hello People! Welcome to episode 51 of the When In Yorkshire Podcast, how are you? I hope you are all getting by as well as can be. I am back with another episode recorded at Slamdunk festival in Leeds - it was a busy day! If you've seen who my guest is this week, have a general Interest in punk rock and or podcasts, then this man needs not introduction. For the sake of everyone else, I will still do my best to summarise Mr Matt Stocks. I first remember seeing Matt conducting interviews on Skuzz TV and then he was one of the voices behind Kerrang Radio both of which were done very well and were informative and entertaining however after not hearing anything of him for a few years, I noticed his name crop up on a few festival posters where he was DJing and then it was his podcast Life in The Stocks which really captures my attention. I can't remember how I came across it but I remember listening to his episode with Frank Turner, then Tom Green, Jamie Lenman, Andy Cairns and Grant Nicholas all of which captivated me and I have been hooked on Life in the stocks since. It's not just the amazing guests he manages to get, although there are some huge names from the world of entertainment but it's the tone and candid nature of the conversations. Matt has a great ability to get his guests on a level where they seem to feel comfortable covering any topic and many divulge very intimate thoughts and feelings. As a listener, it feels like a blend of interview and then getting to hear a private conversation between friends which ticks all the boxes for me. And then we move on to his latest podcast with Killswitch Engage vocalist Jessie Leech he which, if you haven't heard - I am jealous of the amount of amazing hours of conversation you have ahead of you. These episodes focus on the people anf their experiences only really touching on their work if it's relevant and really has created a community where listeners are guests on the show too. Links for both of these podcasts are in the description for you to check out as well as links to Matt's first book - transcripts of sections from his life the stocks podcast covering various topics and it really is a great read covering conversations with the likes of Andrew wk l, Doug Stanhope, Whilst Matt is known to be an open book and I was aware he would answer anything I asked if him, I inte ntionally kept this conversation light as it really felt like the day was a real milestone in the journey of his life in music and I wanted to get his take on this. There are many more questions I'd love to ask Matt and hopefully we'll get to do a follow up episode in the future. For now I'll let you listen to episode 51 from slam dunk festival with Matt Stocks. https://open.spotify.com/show/3i5ON0eGOgaWgX58FG7rNk?si=K0FSW35zTMaHJ-wGpW2ywA https://open.spotify.com/show/4l04uOo5aE4ueSfeBREpQY?si=qEj7C95qShyxROfuaohwZw Life in the Stocks: Veracious Conversations with Musicians & Creatives (Volume One) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1644281872/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_SHM3MTH0PFZ8331DG4FG

We talk to drummer and producer Greg Haver about making the move from drumming for the likes of Corey Hart to production after embracing technology. Greg also talks about working with the Manics and how working with James Dean Bradfield, the hardest working person he’s worked with, gave him an understanding of what’s needed before you start any production. We talk about the artist and producer relationship and how Greg thinks making a record is like ‘a holiday romance’ . He recalls how not going to bed at 1am because he was ‘shit-scared’ of JDB ended up with them creating There By The Grace Of God, his first top 10 single, He talks about setting up Big Noise studios and how, within two and a half years it racked up 3 million record sales and two Brit-nominations for Best Album. Greg also reveals how a breakdown after the pressures of back-to-back big studio albums led to him moving to New Zealand. The New Zealand music scene and the parallels with Wales, including Echo Park named after the Feeder song who he arranged for his former bandmate Grant Nicholas to sing on a song with. Welcome to episode 09 of the Wonder Junkie Podcast featuring Grant Nicholas from Feeder. When I spoke to Grant he had already done 15 interviews with other radio stations and was running late so we were a bit pushed for time but managed to make it happen and come out with a really great chat. The last time I met Grant I was a 19-year-old student at Glyndwr University in Wrexham just getting to grips with how the music industry worked. I was lucky enough that Feeder had been booked to play at the university just as I started to do some live crewing. Not that I realized it at the time but that was a pretty important moment for me, as I quickly realized I’d never be a roadie (not with these skinny arms) but it did spur me on to keep working in the music industry. Fast-forward to today and I’ve worked in everything from live music venues to labels, PR, and management until finally settling on radio. In that time Grant has continued to tour the world, gone on hiatus, released a solo album and come back with a cracking new Feeder album “All Bright Electric” coming out on October 7th. So there was a lot to talk about and I was particularly interested in Grant’s take of headlining Download Festival in 2005, a prospect you would struggle to see happening today. He also gave his thoughts on life in London, how growing up in Newport helped Feeder in the early days and how the video for their now classic “Just A Day” came about. If you ever meet Grant, what you’ll quickly realize is that he is extremely approachable, literally your mate down the pub shooting the breeze over a few pints. So I hope I can catch him again down the line as I think Feeder have been one of these bands who has been overlooked in terms of UK rock bands who broke through and made a massive difference to the musical landscape. Hopefully, it won’t be another 7 years until our next encounter but until then I hope you enjoy this episode with Grant and as always any feedback, reviews or suggestions for the podcast is greatly appreciated. http://petebailey.net/podcast
