Alphaville, Boney M., Cardigans, Neneh Cherry, Double, Earth & Fire, Patrick Hernandez, Jean-Michel Jarre, Grace Jones, Matia Bazar, Mory Kante, Youssou N'Dour, Plastic Bertrand, Demis Roussos, Secret Service, Umberto Tozzi, Vangelis, Yello plus Alphabeat, Ida Corr og Junior Senior.
Happy Thursday, my darling pop culture junkies! We are back with another episode of Pop Culture Mondays on Thursdays, and honestly? The vibes are shifting. From a major mascot overhaul to some of the wildest viral news we've seen all year, we are diving deep into the zeitgeist today. Inside This Episode: • The Passing of the Torch: Out with the old, in with the... wrinkly. We discuss why Potato the French Bulldog is officially replacing Baby Yoda as the Pop Culture Mondays mascot. • The Project Hail Mary Phenomenon: It's more than just a hit movie; it's a fashion movement. We're breaking down the film's success and why everyone is obsessed with Ryan Gosling's sweater (and how to get the look). • The Great Kit Kat Heist: Someone has a serious sweet tooth. We look into the baffling disappearance of 435,000 Kit Kat bars. Where did they go? Why? And how do you even hide that much chocolate? • Debunking the Great Escape: You've seen the video of the dogs "escaping" in China. We set the record straight—the footage is real, but the narrative you're reading in the captions is pure fiction. • The No Kings March: Breaking down the cultural impact and the noise surrounding the latest movement hitting the streets. • Druski's Latest Controversy: We're talking about Druski's whiteface impression of Erika Kirk. Was it satire or did it cross the line? The internet is divided, we want your thoughts. This week's PCM: https://popculturemondays.com/2026/03/30/holy-hail-mary/
The final chapter of the One-Hit Wonders Trilogy is here! Why do we love One-Hit Wonders so much? Because they're just great songs! And because they don't evolve—they freeze, and that frozen quality is exactly what makes them last. Hearing these songs makes you feel like you're reconnecting with your past. One-Hit Wonders are a perfect snapshot of a moment in time - and none of us can deny that nostalgic attraction. This episode features more of the best of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s as we discuss songs from Sugar Hill Gang, Biz Markie, Lit, The Cardigans, Danzig, Onyx, Harvey Danger and more!
Mission: Impossible, Mørkeleg, Evita, Space Jam, Romeo + Juliet, Pusher, Phenomenon, Trainspotting og The Cable Guy. Playliste: Björk - Nu flyver Anton Underworld - Born slippy .NUXX Celine Dion - Because you loved me Bush - Machinehead Adam Clayton & Larry Mullen - Theme from Mission: Impossible Jim Carrey - Somebody to love Eternal - Someday Eric Clapton - Change the World Warren G. feat. Adina Howard - What's love got to do with it Elisabeth - Mørkeleg Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers - Walls (Circus) The Prisoner - Summers got the color The Wonders - That thing you do The Cardigans - Lovefool Des'ree - I'm kissing you Seal - Fly like an eagle Barbra Streisand and Bryan Adams - I finally found someone Whitney Houston - Step by step Madonna - You must love me

The Cardigans' bassist Magnus Sveningsson joins me from Sweden! The hitmakers behind "Lovefool" had a lot of 90's success, and were featured on many 90's movie soundtracks. Magnus and I discuss his metal roots, the Northern Lights, Sweden & Canada's similarities, introduce our cats, 90210, his solo projects, and some hockey talk.
Most of us can't even hear the word “cardigan” without picturing Mr. Rogers coming home to exchange his suit jacket and dress shoes for one of his zip-up cardigans and a pair of sneakers. Most authors that write histories of this favorite casual sweater act stunned that Mr. Rogers favorite item of clothing was invented by the military. But for those of us better-versed in menswear history, it's no surprise that the cardigan was a military invention, because… well, most pieces of men's clothing wouldn't exist today if not for their military application. The far more interesting angle in the cardigan story is not that the unassuming sweater gained fame for its role in one of the most disastrous cavalry charges of all time, but its position in women's fashion. It was Coco Chanel who, was probably a Nazi collaborator, but it's pretty clear she helped bring the cardigan to the masses and it was women who made cardigans cool.Brands mentioned:Inverallan Knitters (also at Clutch Cafe)Dehen 1920Beams PlusDrakesJ.PressIf you liked what you've been hearing, please let us and other people know with a reviewOur email address is blowout@heddels.com and we also have our discord running so you can bother me directly if you like!https://discord.gg/GA978xdPToday's episode featured writing from Albert Muzquiz in “From Cavalry to Coco Chanel: The Cardigan Unbuttoned” on Heddels.com and the production talents of Sean Thornton

Welcome back to Sherman and Ski: Talk You Into It. One of the most iconic pop acts from the mid 90's through the mid aughts - The Cardigans flew into our collective lives on a sugary magic carpet of melodies with the one-in-a-million superhit Lovefool. But, as customary here at this pod, we are diving WAAAAY deeper, and so should you! These Nordic pop magicians weaved an incredible sound through all of their albums, Life, First Band on the Moon, Gran Turismo, Super Extra Gravity...and all with a mysterious, dark, death metal underpinnings - almost predictable coming from Sweden. Blending influences from the Beach Boys, Burt Bacharach, and yes, Black Sabbath - The Cardigans were a true group of musicians with a deceptive malleability of their sound. They are true masters of the earworm, with a signature vocalist in the form of Nina Persson - it's stunning that they don't have a greater presence in the American music culture. Also, do NOT ever underestimate their covers of both Ozzy Osbourne AND the Talking Heads...you KNOW Sherman and Ski are talking about it here. ..this pod is a must listen for 90's fans and alt-rock historians, we went deep into the catalog on this one! Rise & shine, folks.

Schools have become sites of policing and surveillance that mirror the criminal legal system. To address this, we need to understand what our guest calls the “school-to-prison nexus,” the intersecting web of racist, carceral systems that criminalize our youth. We discuss the history of organizing against the school-to-prison pipeline and how the call for “Counselors Not Cops” needs an abolitionist framework to succeed. We also highlight important wins from decades-long fights like the recent vote to end the school resource office (SRO) program in Chicago Public Schools.Episode Guest:Erica Meiners is a writer, educator and organizer. Their recent books include For the Children? Protecting Innocence in a Carceral State, a co-edited anthology The Long Term: Resisting Life Sentences, Working Towards Freedom, and the co-authored *Feminist and the Sex Offender: Confronting Sexual Harm, Ending State Violence* as well as 2022's Abolition. Feminism. Now. Most importantly, Erica has collaboratively started and works alongside others in a range of ongoing mobilizations for liberation, particularly movements that involve access to free public education for all, including people during and after incarceration, and other queer abolitionist struggles.
