Send us a Text Message.Diggle me this: how does a bloke from the other side of the pond not only break into American comics but become one of the industry's leading writers? When it comes to Andy Diggle, it's about a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck. After starting as an editor on such UK magazines as Judge Dredd, Sonic the Comic, and 2000 AD (in the year 2000 AD!), Andy started writing his own stories in the same magazines. Then it was off to America, where he started writing for Vertigo and DC on titles like Lady Constantine, The Losers, Swamp Thing, Adam Strange, Silent Dragon, and Green Arrow: Year One (which formed the blueprint for the Arrow TV series). Over at Marvel, he wrote Thunderbolts and the Daredevil crossover event Shadowland, among other titles. Now, he's helping resurrect DC's Elseworlds imprint with the miniseries Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age, the debut issue of which just came out on 6/11/24! You can follow Andy on his site andydiggle.com or on X @andydiggle._________________Check out a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.If you like this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts. This week the boys are exploring the origins of the emerald archer, Green Arrow. Oliver Queen was your average rich, alcoholic, thrill seeking playboy. But after a series of unfortunate events, he ends up stranded on a deserted island that might not be so deserted. He either has to learn to adapt to the island's dangerous ways or perish. This episode covers Green Arrow: Year One (2007).
Green Arrow has been interpreted many times in many forms of media over the years, but what do we think of his "definitive" origin story from 2007? Joe and Mike unpack the character of Oliver Queen, relating why he's a personal favorite, while analyzing Andy Diggle and Jock's attempt to make his origin accessible for the modern reader!
In this episode Eric and Kaushal talk about some GREAT comics! They came across a hidden gem, Sentient, and finally got around to reading Wolverine: Old Man Logan. For the first episode of this New Year we put our sights on the bowmen of the DC and Marvel universes, Green Arrow aka Oliver Queen and Hawkeye aka Clint Barton. Eric read “Hawkeye: My Life as a Living Weapon” by Matt Fraction and Peter read “Green Arrow: Year One” by Andy Diggle. With this new year comes a new formula for the two geeks on the different streets with even more focus on our foolish discussions! On this episode Travis and I share our comic book recommendations. He recommends Green Arrow: Year One, while I give praise, to Scott Snyder's Justice League story so far. We also discuss various casting decisions for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad! We finish up the episode, with reviews of Doom Patrol episode 6-10! Enjoy!
In their very own sequel to CCL #489 - Live Eisner Hall Of Fame Voting, Chris and Andy pick their favorites for the 2019 Eisner Awards and Chris casts his ballot live on the podcast. Who do they vote for? Also on the show the reprint greatness that is Gwandanaland Comics and the unbelievable true story of Aran Stubbs and the IRS Comic Collection. Plus a recap of Marvel’s reading order, DC’s Essential Reading List 2019, Black Hammer Library Edition, The Ray (Golden Age), Airboy, Green Arrow: Year One by Andy Diggle, Adventures of Captain America by Fabian Nicieza and Kevin MacGuire w/Karl Kessel; Captain America White by Loeb and Sale, and, of course, Avengers: Endgame.
In this episode, Anthony and I are discussing the mini-series Green Arrow: Year One. This mini-series was written by Andy Diggle, with art by Jock, and colors by David Baron. This mini-series was part of the inspiration for season 1 of the CW show Arrow, with the character of John Diggle being a nod to writer Andy Diggle.

The Starling Tribune: An Unofficial Arrow TV Show Fan Podcast
Starling Tribune - Season 4 Edition – Green Arrow Year One Graphic Novel (2008) The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network Since CW took a week of Hiatus in deference to the United States' Thanksgiving holiday (probably a good idea due to the significant ratings drop it would have had this week) the reporters of Starling Tribune gather to reflect upon one of the great inspirations for this season: The Year One Green Arrow Graphic Novel from 2008 written by Andy Diggle. Yup, you got that right, Andy Diggle. The trio take time to give their overall impressions of the comic run, the differences and similarities between the comic and the CW Arrow TV show, the characters in the comic, the Art and the specific connections to Arrow. The reporters analyze Oliver Queen's conflict with Hackett. The reporters joke about using truck springs as a bow and tossing guns into shallow water. The reporters call for Stephen Amell to come troubleshoot our podcast rigs and stay on to help have fun and interview Wendy Mericle. The reporters wrap it up by running down news and notes from the Arrow and DC universes.

Pilot podcast about the pilot episode of the new CW show Arrow. First off I would like to say that I came down with a bit of a cold the day of recording, so I sound a little overly nasal and not super great. Also, I watched the premiere on Wednesday, had the thought of doing a podcast and sent out immediately after, and we recorded on Saturday afternoon. Therefore the organization and format of the show has a lot of room to grow. And it will as the show goes on.Moving on!We mention the Smallville version of Green Arrow a few times.
