There's arguably no superhero in existence that has been reimagined, redefined, or reinterpreted more than Batman. No matter how many times he's been rebooted, audiences are always willing to come back to Gotham City's greatest defender. With so much Bat content out there, there's plenty to dissect, analyze, and of course, rank! This podcast is dedicated to a surgical evaluation of Batman's history, with a focus on ranking several topics in the world of Batman, among other classic Bat themes and characters. Join hosts Daniel Cohen, Pop Break's former Film Editor, and Kris Ingersoll, co-host of the Media/Lit podcast, as they bring on several guests every month to share their passion for the one and only Dark Knight. From Adam West to Robert Pattinson, no bat stone will be left unturned. Bottom-line: If you're a Batman fan, this is required listening. It's the beginning of a new year, which also means the beginning of this year's theme on the Batman by the Numbers podcast; World's Finest. Yes, this year we celebrate the other big DC superhero, the one and only Man of Steel, Superman! As this year will not only bring a new DC Universe to film, but another massive Superman film from James Gunn, so we got to give everyone's favorite Kryptonian his due. As this is a Batman podcast though, we'll also be focusing on how Batman and Superman work, or don't work together. As we all know, they have differing philosophies on how to fight crime and corruption. In kicking off this year's theme, we dug up a gem from the late 90s that explores this theme rather well; The Batman/Superman Movie, otherwise known as the three-episode arc entitled “World's Finest.” This first meeting of the animated series versions of Batman and Superman gives us everything; The Joker. Lex Luthor. Conflict between the heroes. Harley Quinn. Giant robots. What else do you need? Daniel and Kris are joined once again by podcasting director of the pop break, Alex Marcus, as they dive into every detail imaginable with this movie, including the eternal question every DC fan has asked? Who comes out on top – Batman or Superman. If you're in need of not only a Batman animated series throwback, but a Superman one as well, this is the episode for you. Also…find out why Alex Marcus has a childhood grudge with this movie that still hasn't healed!

Alabama man, kindly yet firm, hunches to sweep the crumbs from the deck of his career, trying to keep the rats from infesting the tidy space he has created. It has to mean something, he says to himself for the four-hundredth time, if not more. It has to mean that I haven't wasted my life, he says, while the owners smoke their cigars and plot new ways to exploit him. "The chemicals help with that."

Show notes provided by Joe Peluso Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!" Richie Garofalo (not Michael Corleone) referring to James, Chirs and Joe after they wax poetic about Nightwing and Batman/Superman:World's Finest, in the latest Book Club Edition episode. The Fab Four are back to ponder, pontificate, and pursue the merits of two of DC Comics' best-selling current ongoing books:Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo's Nightwing and Mark Waid and Dan Mora's Batman/SupermanWorld's Finest. The boys do a deep dive into the inaugural runs on these two very popular comics. The themes of family, friends, and fun are explored in detail. Who's there to pick up Dick Grayson up when he falls? Who made Dick the hero and man he is today? How deep is the friendship betweenBruce and Clark? And how does Mark Waid remember all those obscure characters from the annals of DC Comics' past? And with the current run of Taylor and Redondo's Nightwing coming to an end, along with Waid and Mora moving over to Justice League Unlimited, who will be taking the reins of these two fan-favoritetitles? As for Richie, now that he is partially back in the "famiglia" of current "fumetti" readers, will he buy the books monthly or go the Perel route and wait for the trades?
The Boys Are Back! And they have a double helping of the Big 2! Kick things off with Marvel's ode to revanche: Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance gives Ben Percy a farewell to his signature non-X char as Wolverine: Revenge brings Jon Hickman back to one of his best, along with Greg Capullo! Then, checkout DC showing an end and a beginning: the end of Green Lantern War Journal until the massive crossover event featuring the entire Corps before switching over to Batman / Superman: World's Finest #30, featuring a first adventure of the DC Trinity! All this and more on an all new X Is For Podcast! X Is For Show is your premiere place for web content where we discuss your favorite media, from comics to film & television to gaming and beyond! You can find the Action Pack broadcasting every week, so be sure to tune in and join us for all the fun.
At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the family was at the forefront of DC creators' minds. We couldn't escape the topic when discussing superheroics. Plus, we've been pretty anxious on the podcast, contemplating the ramifications of city saviors placing their loved ones above the citizens of Gotham City and Metropolis. Does the person on the street want Superman to have a son? A wife? A cousin? Thankfully, we can corner Mark Waid and Mariko Tamaki at the DC booth and force them to process our ridiculous worries. In October, Mark Waid and Chris Samnee return to the early days of Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson in Batman and Robin: Year One. The twelve-issue maxi-series promises to delve into their unique relationship, revealing how Bruce Wayne learned to parent while keeping Joker behind bars. During the same month, Waid and Mariko Tamaki will share Action Comics as the Superman ongoing goes weekly. Waid, alongside artist Clayton Henry, will focus on Kal-El's problems post-Absolute Power while Mariko Tamaki and artist Skler Partridge continue their deep dive into Supergirl's inner life. For the first half of today's episode, we speak with Mark Waid two-on-one, digging into Bruce and Dick's getting-to-know-you phase. We discuss Bruce's lack of familial role models, his inability or unwillingness to see Alfred as a father, and how he wanted Absolute Power to speak to the moment. In the back half, we have both Mark Waid and Mariko Tamaki on our microphone. We then focus on the Superman family, paying particular attention to Supergirl and the secrets Tamaki is unveiling to her readers. The first issue of Batman and Robin: Year One lands in comic shops on October October 16th. Mark Waid and Mariko Tamaki join Action Comics on issue 1070, which arrives on October 9th. The New 52 was the 2011 revamp and relaunch by DC Comics of its entire line of ongoing monthly superhero comic books. Following the conclusion of the "Flashpoint" crossover storyline, DC cancelled all its existing titles and debuted 52 new series in September 2011.[1] Among the renumbered series were Action Comics and Detective Comics, which had retained their original numbering since the 1930s. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rangerryan/message

Superhero movies? Oh, go on then. A pair of very different projects take centre stage here, at different ends of the budget spectrum.2016's Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice was a pivotal movie for Warner Bros, and a big screen showdown that it'd first attempted nearly 20 years previously. This time, director Zack Snyder was effectively charged with leading the fightback against Marvel and its cinematic universe - and his Batman/Superman showdown would have plenty of ramifications. In the case of 1996's The Phantom, here was a lower budget superhero outing, where the price was chopped just weeks ahead of filming. Joe Dante had originally been set to direct, and Simon Wincer would step in. But 10 days away from release, the boss of Paramount was very aware few people had heard of the movie...Stories of both are told in this episode. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
This week, the boys check in on two runs that have differed greatly, both in terms of execution and also in terms of focus.
Very exciting episode in the DC Animated Universe as Batman and Superman crossover with each other in the World's Finest. Save to say we nerded out pretty hard with this one.

Batman Off World #1 is out now, conratz on pulling off a compelling and different kind of Batman story! As far as pitches are concerned, was Off World your first pitch to DC?The story picks up with Batman only 1 year into his tenure as a superhero, what were the factors in setting the story at this point in time?I saw you had mentioned in a previous interview your love of Atari Force, is there any desire to ask DC to dust it off and give you a whirl writing a new series? There's something so primal about how you write Batman, reminding me of Batman vs. Predator in some respects. What goes into writing Batman in a state of constantly improving on himself? There are a lot of different alien races in Batman Off-World, one of which is the Branx created by Marv Wolfman, George Pérez, did you have to dig deep into your research to pick which aliens to add to the story? How do you balance the grounded nature of batman with, aliens and spaceships?I saw some commotion on Reddit around Ione and Batman kissing on a cover, what kind of woman do you think can steal Batman's heart?Switching gears to Action Comics #1061, I adore what you're doing with Bizarro, and similar to Batman Off-World, you're dealing with another alien world, this time Sorcerers' World. Is it fair to say you're interest lies with alien worlds and characters at DC Comics?Do you have a favorite Bizarro story? John Timms brings a lot of dynamic action in the first issue of the story arc, is there a panel or page where he blew your expectations away?Do you have a method in writing Bizarro dialogue, like do you write the dialogue than reverse it?
