If you are believing for healing, for yourself or others, healing is part of the atonement of Christ. Matthew 8.16-17 says that Jesus healed all that were sick in order that the words of the prophet Isaiah would be fulfilled, ‘He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses' (Isaiah 53.4). I KNOW God works miracles; when you pray in faith, God will work the miracle. And even if you don't experience the full healing in this life, Jesus has promised that a day is coming when He will wipe every tear from our eyes, there will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away, (Revelation 21.4). But he was so difficult and cantankerous in the hospital, that they threw him out without any operation. But God had miraculously healed his body – he pulled his tubes out himself at home – and soon he was back in church. The cancer never returned.' 'Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you ill? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective,' (James 5.13-16, NIVUK). In 1948 Elim held a series of crusades in London. I attended and took part in some of the meetings and felt led to join one of these new churches. It was near Camberwell Green in South London; I knew and became friendly with the young pastor. It was my idea that Ken and I should leave the church where we had grown up and join this church. I thought it would give me useful experience for my own coming ministry. We were very active 17- year-olds; I couldn't do any preaching of course, but we worked with the young people, and I took the job of being door keeper on Sundays, greeting the people and talking with them. One man who attended regularly used to ask me a lot of questions about healing which, with my lack of experience, I found hard to answer. My only contact with this man was in church and I never knew his name. After a while, he stopped coming. Then I found out he'd been in hospital and had died quite suddenly. I didn't know, I believe probably it was prostate cancer. I was quite sad, although I only knew him from talking at the door of the church. I couldn't get him out of my mind. I realised that all his questions had been a desire for a miracle of healing – and I could give him no answers. For the first time in my life, I was confronted with the real need for physical healing from the Lord. It was this that would result in my searching for God's Power in miracles of healing. The church that prays boldly for healing and the church that honors its suffering members aren't two different churches. They're the same church. Most of us haven't figured out how to be both at once.ABOUT THIS EPISODE:There's a tension running through charismatic communities that almost no one names out loud. We believe the Spirit still heals. We preach it, we pray for it, we build entire ministry cultures around expecting it. And yet, in those same communities, those who are suffering — the chronically ill, the disabled, the ones who've prayed a hundred times and heard nothing — quietly absorb an unspoken message: If you had more faith, you would be healed. If God loved you, that diagnosis would already be gone.That's not the gospel. But it can live inside healing culture without anyone intending it. Has our theology of healing accidentally built a hierarchy of spiritual status? Scripture doesn't let us resolve this tension cheaply. Paul prays three times for his thorn to be removed, and God says no (2 Corinthians 12:7-9). Epaphroditus nearly dies in ministry and Paul mourns it (Philippians 2:27). The man at the pool of Bethesda waits 38 years (John 5:5). Jesus says in John 14:10-11, “Do you not believe that I am IN the Father, and the Father IN Me? The words that I speak, I speak not of Myself, but the Father who LIVES IN Me, HE does the works! Believe for the works' sake!” And in v12, “He that believes in Me, the works that I do, he shall do also – and GREATER WORKS THAN THESE shall he do because I go to My Father.” Jesus is teaching us that IF WE BELIEVE in Him, once He has gone back to be with His Father, we then on earth HAVE to carry on the work that He did – we HAVE to do what He did! So many people seem to read John 14 without seemingly being able to believe it.      

In Acts 1:8 Jesus said, “You shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you, and you shall be witnesses.” The clear promise is that HIS power would be in US. Also that we would become witnesses. A witness is one who sees something and reports on it. We need to see, experience and witness God's miraculous power in action! Not merely by sitting and waiting, but by making it happen through the power of God. Get a vision and make it happen! I have seen many miracles. In a period of five years, only in Russia and Ukraine, we recorded more than 20,000 healings! I have a very long record with the KGB! One year I arrived in a city in Russia and they were waiting to stop me preaching – but their biggest problem was not the preaching, it was the miracles of healing! They are not afraid of preachers – they are afraid of the Power of God! They asked me, “What is your authority to heal the sick?” We opened the Word of God and showed them Mark 16, “This is what God tells us to do, it's in the Bible, ‘Lay hands on the sick and they WILL be healed!' We're going to do what the Bible says,” and they couldn't stop us!

He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on people who are ill, and they will get well.' (Mark 16:15-18, NIV) When we see what is happening in the world today, the fulfilment of so many prophecies, and how close we are to the return of Christ, we need to act fast. Remember the great commission of Christ, “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel!” – Mark 16:15. Remember also that the Bible says, ‘For this purpose was the Son of man revealed, to destroy the works of the evil one.' – 1 John 3:8. In order to do these things and to see the fulfilment of all that GOD, rather than what the devil wants to do in these last days, we need to experience and know God's dynamic power in us!

Healing isn't reserved for a few. It's a calling for every believer. Learn to become skillful in ministering God's healing power to the world around you!
