On Christmas day in 2006 a horrific murder occurred in Ryan and Heather's home. the next day, Ryan's father discovered Heather's lifeless body and Ryan alive, but injured, inside the home. Police believed this was a domestic violence situation and that Ryan was the culprit. What next happened is a complete unjust use of power and neglect at the hands of the Phoenix Arizona police department. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/patrick-conn/support

Heather Quan had recently moved in with her boyfriend Ryan Waller and the two were simply spending a quiet night in on December 23, 2006 when two men invade the home, kill Heather and leave Ryan for dead. The details of what was discovered and assumed by law enforcement two days later are shocking. When Phoenix police were met at the door by Ryan Waller during a welfare check, they found his girlfriend, Heather Quan, deceased on the couch from a gunshot wound to the head. Ryan looked like had been in a fight and was taken into custody. Sadly it would take police six hours to realize Ryan too had been shot and was a victim, not a suspect. Listen along as we break down the highly controversial and frustrating case of Heather Quan and Ryan Waller. Music by Gioele Fazzeri from Pixabay
December 25 2006. Ryan Waller & Heather Quan didn't show up for a family Christmas dinner and no one can reach them. Officers arrived at their home for a welfare check. They find Heather deceased from a gunshot wound and Ryan walking around battered and saying he doesn't remember what happened. He is quickly arrested and placed in the police car for four hours. The detective (finally) realizes during the interrogation that he needs medical attention. Their suspect is a victim himself. He had been shot in the head by home intruders who also shot Heather. He survived his injuries, but was approaching death.
This week on WDDD, Sarah shares a truly tragic tale involving the untimely deaths of Heather Quan and Ryan Waller, a young couple hailing from Phoenix, Arizona. They had recently embarked on a new chapter in their lives, having moved into their very first home, separate from their parents' homes. However, when the couple failed to make an appearance for Christmas dinner, concern began to creep in among Ryan's parents. In an effort to unravel the mystery surrounding their absence, Ryan's parents made their way to his new residence, completely oblivious to the unimaginable horrors that lay in store for them.

December 25th, 2006. Phoenix, Arizona. Police officers entered the home of Ryan Waller, an 18-year-old living in Phoenix. They found Ryan injured but alive, and his girlfriend Heather dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Ryan was the initial suspect, but he acted very strangely during his interview, claiming he'd been shot in the face by two men who broke into the house. On Christmas night in 2006 Ryan Waller and his girlfriend Heather Quan never show up for Christmas dinner at Ryan's father house, concerned his father calls the police to do a welfare check on his son. When the police show up to Ryan's house, they find Ryan with a massive black eye and Heather dead on the couch.
Life imitates art, they say, so it's no surprise that some crimes cases actually have twist endings or red herrings. Sometimes we just really have no idea what's going on, onscreen or in our own home...Or who to suspect. Kelsey takes on the crazy case of Daniel LaPlante and his reign of terror in Massachusetts. He was an unlikely suspect for committing such a crime spree, and proved to be more evasive than anyone had guessed. To cap it off we have another brutal attack with the story of Ryan Waller and Heather Quan. Police had a tough time figuring out what happened in their home on Christmas day in 2006, and the fallout would turn out to be just as tragic as the main event.
This week I am telling Russ about the tragic case of Ryan Waller and Heather Quan. This case proves yet again that it is so important not to jump to conclusions too fast. This case has a very infamous interrogation that has gone viral over the years. We need to keep attention on this case because America's justice system needs to do better. First looks can lead you astray. That was the case for young Ryan Waller when he was mistaken as the killer of his girlfriend rather than another victim. After being accused of murder a years-long fight in and out of the courtroom begins. To some, this was an open and shut case. All that was needed was a confession. But as the saying goes, things aren't always as they seem. Anyone from the outside looking in should know that something isn't right after 18-year-old Ryan Waller is arrested for murder. And sometimes, getting justice needs to go further than catching the guilty party. On December 23rd 2006 Ryan Waller and his girlfriend Heather Quan were both shot and presumed dead by their attackers Richie Carver and his father Larry Carver. Heather unfortunately died but Ryan however survived this attack and went on to try to tell police what happened. The story does get complicated because Ryan still had 2 bullets in his head while talking with police which made it extremely hard to fully give his story.
