DeCosmo opened their new Italian market in Pinellas Park in September 2022. But the family already had legions of fans from their sub shops back in the 80s. I had a chance to head over to the store and chat with Paul, Steven and Vincenzo about their first year in business. What's worked? What have they tweaked? Hot Italian Sub Sliders (This is a great little sandwich that makes a great leftover the next day.) Ingredients 12 count slider buns Hawaiian rolls 12 slices ham 12 slices salami 12 slices pepperoni large rounds 6 slices provolone cheese 1/2 cup roasted red peppers slices 1/2 banana peppers sliced 1/4 cup butter 1 Tbs Italian seasoning Marinara sauce for dipping Instructions Preheat oven to 350. Slice your slider buns in half, place bottom of buns in a baking dish, layer your ham, salami, pepperoni and provolone over the top. Sprinkle with roasted red peppers and banana peppers. In small bowl whisk together butter and Italian seasoning. Place your other half of slider buns in top. Brush on top of buns with butter mixture. Cover with tinfoil and bake in oven for 25-30 minutes. Remove from oven and brush with more butter if desired

We've started a new series called "Food for Thought," in-depth conversations with groundbreakers who run farms, restaurants, breweries and bars around California and are shaking up how we eat and drink - and the way we think about food and drink. Kicking it off is a discussion with two well-known Sacramento restaurateurs -- Andrea Lepore of Hot Italian, and N'Gina and Ian Kavookjian of South.
