Iain is an extreme athlete pushing the limits of human endurance—and time itself. He recently completed The Great World Race, running 7 marathons on 7 continents in just 7 days. Now, he's training for an even bigger challenge: running 52 miles in all 52 countries and territories of Europe, in 52 weeks. And after that? The BIG one—a full circumnavigation of the globe using only human power, all while aiming to break the world record for the most money ever raised. Why? Because he has terminal brain cancer. However, Iain refuses to let that stop him from living one hell of a life.Follow Iain on Instagram:@TheKingOfChemoContribute to Iain's GoFundMeFollow Iain on YouTube: @TheKingOfChemoFollow Iain on Twitch: @TheKingOfChemoNOTABLE TIMESTAMPS:0:00 Intro 1:46 Welcome, Iain Ward!2:55 Iain explains his "why" and embracing being the protagonist in his own film7:28 Brain cancer diagnosis9:34 Staying awake during brain surgery16:38 Finding purpose and looking ahead at life27:39 Taking on The Great World Race and the rugged landscape of Antarctica39:48 Training for The Great World Race50:07 Running 52 miles in 52 countries and territories in Europe in 52 weeks58:27 The Big One and circumnavigating the globe with pure manpower1:09:52 How to support Iain Where to find and support Bush & Banter: Follow Bush & Banter on Instagram: @bushandbanter Visit Bush & Banter's website: www.bushandbanter.com Join Bush & Banter's Patreon community: patreon.com/bushandbanter E-mail Bush & Banter: bushandbanter@gmail.com Follow Dyana on Instagram: @dyanacarmella Follow Jennifer on Instagram: @thewhimsicalwoman

In this episode of the Clean Power Hour, Tim Montague sits down with Iain Ward, founder of Solar Agricultural Services (SolAg), to explore the exciting world of agrivoltaics - the practice of combining solar energy production with agriculture. Ward, with his background in conservation planning and environmental science, shares insights on how the solar industry and farming communities can create win-win scenarios through innovative dual-use projects. The conversation delves into the current status of agrivoltaics in the United States, highlighting the opportunities and challenges faced by farmers, developers, and local communities. Ward emphasizes the importance of preserving agricultural land while integrating solar energy production, discussing creative approaches to crop selection, livestock grazing, and soil health management under solar arrays.A key focus of the discussion is the evolving relationship between solar developers and farmers, particularly tenant farmers who may be displaced by traditional solar projects. Ward outlines strategies for creating mutually beneficial partnerships, including innovative compensation models and agricultural practices tailored to work within solar installations. He also touches on the need for developers to adopt more agriculturally sensitive construction methods, such as burying cables and minimizing soil disturbance/grading.The episode explores the broader implications of agrivoltaics for food security, rural economic development, and environmental sustainability. Ward passionately argues for a holistic approach to solar development that considers the entire agricultural ecosystem and community impact. He shares his vision for agrivoltaics as part of a larger food movement that can regenerate soils, support farm viability, and bring new generations back to farming. This episode will give you valuable insights into the emerging best practices for agrivoltaic projects, the importance of building trust between developers and farming communities, and the potential to reshape both the solar and agricultural industries. Iain Ward doesn't do things by halves. Since his diagnosis with terminal cancer in 2019, he has been running, cycling and kayaking around the world, with his ultimate goal being to break a record raising the most amount of money for running a marathon. This month, he's taking on one hell of a trek, and all roads lead to Stradbally. The self-titled 'King of Chemo' joined Dermot and Dave to chat about his involvement in Tour de Picnic 2023, and how you can get involved.
Iain Ward is one of the most inspiring people we've had on the podcast before. In 2019 he was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, and has set himself the goal of raising the most money for charity that has ever been raised for running a marathon but he DOESN'T want you to donate money. The message is simple, get him as many followers as possible and make companies pay him for exposure, and he will plow that all into charity. So far he has over 6 million followers across social media! One of King Charles III's greatest passions outside of royal duty was polo, one of the world's oldest team sports. It's a game played on horseback, where a long handled wooden mallet is used to hit a small ball. The King was considered to be a very good polo player and featured in some of the world's strongest teams. His captain for five years was England international Julian Hipwood. Julian speaks to Caroline Barker about the times the then Prince stayed at his house in order to get a “quiet night”, how he mishit a shot and scarred Julian's face and explains why he will do a “first class job” as King. We're also joined by Antony Fanshawe, the director of polo for Guards Polo Club, which was set-up by Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh in 1955. Eleanor Oldroyd is one of the BBC Radio's most experienced sport commentators, but she also commentates on key royal events. Before the coronation of King Charles III, Eleanor joins us to discuss the similarities and differences between commentating on an event like this compared to cricket or the Olympics. Plus, we cross to Arizona to speak to Iain Ward, who is currently cycling across the United States to raise money for cancer research and mental health charities. In 2020, Iain was diagnosed with a brain tumour and was given around five years to live. His positive attitude and physically-taxing adventures have seen him amass over five million followers across his social media platforms.

Iain Ward goes by the online name King of Chemo, and he has set himself the mission of breaking the world record for the most amount of money ever raised for charity by running a marathon. In 2019 Iain Ward signed up for a medical trial. As part of the trial an MRI was done on his brain and a small, supposedly harmless, tumour was detected. A later scan showed it growing so, two weeks after his 31st birthday he was scheduled for brain surgery, during which he had to be awake and talking the entire time. A week later it was confirmed that he had Stage 3 brain cancer, which normally comes with a life expectancy of 5 years. Because he's younger he might get longer than this but either way he has decided that he's going to spend his last years dedicating himself to achieving something difficult and worthwhile. Breaking the world record for the most money raised for running a marathon. Remarkably he's not looking for your money, he's simply looking to grow his social media channels so that when his they gets sponsors, he can donate that money. That approach is working. The evidence is on his channels. Just the other week he gathered a huge crowd of runners in London for a run. For every single one that showed up, Brewdog donated £10 to charity. “3 years left to live, 2 records to break, 2.3 million to raise and 0 excuses” Iain Liam Ward was diagnosed with brain cancer in May 2020 and has spent the last two years raising money for cancer research with his incredible fitness challenges. He's trying to break the world record for the most money raised for cancer; but he isn't asking people for donations (although he's grateful for them), instead he is trying to gain more social media followers so he can reach out to big brands that will sponsor him for races and donate that money to cancer research. He already has 1.5 million followers on TikTok (at the time of recording) and is exploding on the other channels as well. Be sure to give him a follow after this podcast. Here are some of the things we talked about in today's show: How he is the luckiest of unlucky people in his brain cancer diagnosis What stage 3 brain cancer means for his fitness and training Why he's happy he found out How to avoid the pity party when you get bad news How the fitness mindset and thinking a certain way helped him cope And more.. This week my guest is a fella by the name of Iain Ward. Iain is, in his own words, the luckiest unluckiest person in the world. He's a fitness instructor, a comedian, a gamer AND has recently been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Iain is one of the most interesting people I've spoken to so far, in that after being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer earlier this year, instead of crumpling into a wallowing mess like I would, without skipping a beat he set out to do good with whatever time he has left in order to break a Guiness World record in fundraising - raising more than £2.7million in an individual marathon event, whilst running dressed as a video game character!
