What do you do when your parents have 40 years of stuff in a 4,000 square foot house and they need to move to a 1,200 square foot assisted living apartment? Most families are paralyzed by this question—and Ernise Beckel has spent her career solving it.Ernise is a registered nurse with 20 years of experience who kept walking into seniors' homes and seeing the same problem: people discharged from hospitals into houses filled with clutter, creating fall hazards and overwhelming situations that nobody was addressing. Now she co-owns Caring Transitions of Eden Prairie with her mom, serving families throughout Carver County and the southwest metro. In this conversation, we get into the actual mechanics of how this works:THE PROCESS• Free consultation: 30-60 minutes, includes walkthrough and density assessment• They measure the new space and tell you exactly what will fit• SOD method: Sort, Organize, Donate, Dispose• They photograph everything and recreate familiar arrangements in the new homeWHERE THE STUFF GOES• CT Bids online auction platform reaches 300,000+ registered shoppers nationwide• About 75% of household items can be sold• Revenue split: 65% to homeowner, 35% to Caring Transitions• Items ship nationwide—not limited to local buyers like estate salesTIMELINE & PRICING• Full liquidation (selling everything): 3-4 weeks• Cleanout only (donate/dispose): approximately 1 week• Cost: $3-5 per square foot depending on density• Recommended lead time: call at least one month before you need completionWHY IT'S DIFFERENT FROM ESTATE SALES• No strangers walking through your house• No cars parked on curbs (HOA friendly)• Online bidding reaches national market• They handle ALL remaining items—nothing left behind• Items are shipped to buyers, not picked up on-siteTHE EMOTIONAL SIDEErnise talks about why she insists on meeting mom (not just the adult children), how to handle situations when the senior doesn't want to move, and why patience is essential. Her nursing background shapes everything about how she approaches these transitions.PRACTICAL ADVICEFor families avoiding the conversation: bring it up when multiple family members are present (holidays can work), focus on benefits like being closer to family or having built-in social connections, and give them time to process—this usually takes months, not days.SERVICE AREA: Eden Prairie, Chanhassen, Chaska, Waconia, Victoria, and surrounding Carver County communitiesCONNECT WITH CARING TRANSITIONS: Website: caringtransitions.comABOUT THE HOST: Greg Anderson has been selling real estate in Carver County since 1985 with over 3,000 homes sold. Send us a textDr. Brandon Crawford is joined by Samuel Shepherd, a former Department of Defense biochemical engineer who used his expertise in weapons development to reverse-engineer a cure for his own "incurable" bone cancer. They deep-dive into the science of oxidative stress, the hierarchy of antioxidants, and the specific molecule that allows animals like naked mole rats and sharks to resist cancer and aging.Samuel recounts his 2003 diagnosis of polycythemia vera, where his blood pressure reached levels that "pegged" medical monitors at 300 mmHg. After years of grueling phlebotomies, Sam used a screening algorithm to find a commonality among cancer-resistant species. That common thread was Astaxanthin. However, he didn't just find a supplement; he discovered a way to modify the molecule into a glucosidic form that bypasses the body's digestive barriers to target disease at the atomic level.Key TakeawaysThe Root of All Evil: 92% of inflammatory disease deaths are driven by the hydroxyl free radical. By neutralizing this specific ROS, you address the cause of disease (the trunk) rather than just the symptoms.Molecular Saponification: By using a glucosidic "Trojan Horse" delivery, astaxanthin enters cancer cells and converts acidic free radicals into alkaline ions, dissolving the cancer cell membrane in seconds. The Antioxidant Cliff: Natural cellular protection (Glutathione, SOD) fails significantly after age 42 W or 50 M, making external supplementation essential for longevity.Beyond Brain Barriers: Unlike many antioxidants, this specialized form of astaxanthin crosses the blood-brain barrier, allowing it to neutralize neurotoxins linked to Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.ResourcesUse code CRAWFORD at checkout on Valasta.net for a discount on your order.Valasta.net (testimonials, NIH research papers, dosing information)NIH Research Database (search: "NIH + astaxanthin + [disease]")ProQuest Government Research DatabaseLife Extension (publishes astaxanthin research papers)Dr. Fred Bisci (mentioned as colleague)HSCRP (high-sensitivity C-reactive protein) testing for inflammation markersHematococcus Pluvialis (algae source of astaxanthin)Products 528 Innovations Lasers NeuroSolution Full Spectrum CBD NeuroSolution Broad Spectrum CBD NeuroSolution Stimpod STEMREGEN® Learn MoreFor more information, resources, and podcast episodes, visit https://tinyurl.com/3ppwdfpm

To allow our team time for a holiday recording hiatus, we're sharing an encore episode from the Slush Pile archive. This episode, from December 2022, features two poems by poet Nick Visconti, “Burial” and “Unmake These Things.” It also marks the first appearance on the pod by our managing editor, Dagne Forrest. We'll be back next time with new poems and new guests. In the meantime, enjoy this look back. As always, thanks for listening.   How much meaning do you need, Slushies? When language lingers, when images form a spiral, a murmuration, might a poem's mood hold meaning close to its heart and simultaneously at bay? And, also, how do you pronounce ‘ichor'? All this and more in a rollicking conversation about poet Nick Visconti's new work, “Burial” and “Unmake These Things.” And speaking of things, listen for Samantha on Anne Carson's zen koan dollop of insight from Red Doc>: “To live past the end of your myth is a perilous thing.” Or for Kathy and Marion confessing their North Carolina ritual groping of the Dale Earnhardt statue in Kannapolis, NC. And finally: geese. Nick Visconti's poem triggered a reverie-- that time when we accidentally stumbled into the annual Snow Geese migration in Eastern Pennsylvania.   At the table: Dagne Forrest, Kathleen Volk Miller, Alex Tunney, Samantha Neugebauer, Marion Wrenn.   This episode is brought to you by our sponsor Wilbur Records, who kindly introduced us to the artist is A.M.Mills whose song “Spaghetti with Loretta” now opens our show.    Nick Visconti is a writer living with an artist and a cat in Brooklyn. He plays softball on Sundays.   Burial It is love, not grief, which inters the deceased in a hill made of clay.   Sod embraces crossed arms, legs, eyes shut looking forever   at nothing beneath our feet—a container for men unmade, no boat to speak of.   No oars darkly dipped in water as we pictured it would be. Instead,   a single shred of light piercing every lens it catches. Instead,   a pathway none cross, just follow through   and up and up—the cusp of ending, nothing at all like the end.   He isn't in this yard when his children roam. Still,   they dig,   they expect to find him: braided leather, steel-wound aglets, his black opal intact.   Unmake these things The sand before me like water, fluid and holy under the cratered crown nearly half-awake, circling   as I draw the one way I know—stick figures in a backdrop scenery, thick- headed and content, wheeling   psalms of birds, wide-sloping M's grouped in permanent murmur. I don't bother with the sun's face, bare in the upper   left corner of the page. I've made a habit out of hoarding ornaments, given them their own orbit like the russet   ichor dashed with cinnamon I choke down every morning and afternoon. The city's puncture-prone underbite nips   the sky, consuming the bodies above—thunderheads, billboards notched, alive in the glow of that always-   diurnal square. There's been talk lately of irreversible chemistry, an acceptable stand-in for cure among believers and experts   in and on the subject of Zoloft-sponsored serotonin. A first weaning is possible. Do not bother with a second.

Sod's Country Farms was raising 65,000 chickens when a fire burned down the poultry house. After a detailed investigation, the cause of the fire was undetermined. To further complicate matters, Sod's Country Farms didn't even own the chickens themselves, but raised them for a vendor. They want to know if the property loss of the  animals is covered-- and what policy would be most appropriate.   Notable Timestamps [ 00:00 ] - A poultry house fire destroys 65,000 chickens, but the insured doesn't own the birds. [ 03:30 ] - Contract Growing is common in agriculture, with farmers raising animals owned by vendors.  [ 05:20 ] - Under the ISO BOP, animals are generally excluded, but exceptions exist for animals owned by others and "boarded" by the insured. [ 07:00 ] - Courts may rely on dictionary definitions when policy terms like "boarded" are undefined. [ 09:00 ] - Adjusters should review the contract for risk transfer provisions, insurance requirements, and other-insurance clauses to understand responsibilities and potential overlap. [ 11:30 ] - Standard BOP coverage can fall short for farming operations. Specialized farm policies are designed to address poultry risks more directly through scheduling and declaration-based coverage. [ 13:30 ] - Declarations pages matter in agricultural losses. How buildings, poultry locations, and coverage types are defined can determine whether coverage applies or is excluded. [ 15:30 ] - Valuing large-scale poultry losses is complex, involving age, weight, market timing, pricing data, and delay to market, often guided by specific policy language on cash market value. [ 17:15 ] - Brennan summarizes the key points above. The Red Light Report

In this solosode of The Energy Code, Dr. Mike unveils the most comprehensive update yet to BioLight's flagship supplement — BioBlue — and takes listeners deep inside the quantum bioenergetic thinking that shaped its redesign. What began as a methylene-blue-based mitochondrial catalyst has evolved into a next-generation longevity systemintegrating deuterium-depleted water, elevated NMN, taurine, and trace gold-silver resonance compounds.   Dr. Mike breaks down the science and reasoning behind each refinement: why Litewater's 10 ppm deuterium-depleted water now forms the clean matrix for all BioBlue liquids, how NMN has been increased ten-fold (10 mg → 100 mg) to meaningfully expand NAD⁺ pools and drive biogenesis, and how taurine stabilizes mitochondrial membranes and calcium signaling for endurance and resilience. He explains the subtle yet powerful tweaks — like a 50 % increase in colloidal gold and silver and a 40 % reduction in fulvic acid — that sharpen redox coherence and enhance longevity signaling.   Dr. Mike dives into: Overview of how BioBlue progressed from a simple methylene-blue solution to a full mitochondrial optimization system. Why all BioBlue liquids now utilizes Litewater for cleaner proton flow and improved ATP efficiency. Why NMN increased from 10 mg → 100 mg per dose to meaningfully raise NAD⁺ levels, drive biogenesis, and enhance DNA repair. Why the addition of Taurine – 100 mg per serving for membrane stability, calcium regulation, and long-term mitochondrial resilience. Enhanced Trace Elements – 50 % more colloidal gold & silver plus refined fulvic acid for smoother redox flow and higher photodynamic efficiency.   This episode isn't just about formulation — it's about why every molecule matters in the pursuit of mitochondrial efficiency, redox stability, and long-term cellular youthfulness. Mike also previews BioLight's upcoming new website, pre-Black-Friday event, and a soon-to-launch BioBlue Lite product line for those seeking simplicity without compromise.   Key Topics Covered Evolution of BioBlue — from the original methylene blue + NMN formula to a comprehensive mitochondrial optimization system. Integration of Deuterium-Depleted Water (Litewater, 10 ppm) — explanation of how lowering deuterium enhances ATP production, redox efficiency, and longevity potential. NMN Upgrade (10× Increase) — new 100 mg per serving dosage for boosting NAD⁺ levels, mitochondrial biogenesis, DNA repair, and energy metabolism. Addition of Taurine (100 mg per serving) — supports membrane integrity, calcium balance, ROS buffering, and cellular longevity signaling. Enhanced Colloidal Gold & Silver (50 % Increase) — improved redox stability, electron flow, and photodynamic synergy with methylene blue and red light. Refined Wu Jin Sun Fulvic Acid (−40 %) — optimizes redox balance and mineral transport while improving synergy between all active compounds. Comprehensive Mitochondrial Benefits — improved ATP efficiency, autophagy, and mitochondrial biogenesis for cleaner, more resilient energy production. New Product Lineup — introduction of BioBlue Lite and BioBlue Leuco Lite (simplified methylene blue + water versions) for accessible mitochondrial support. Key Quotes from Dr. Mike   “Deuterium-depleted water doesn't just make the mitochondria go faster—it helps them run truer, cleaner, and more efficiently.”   “We've moved BioBlue from a trace metabolic nudge to a real mitochondrial optimization protocol that supports redox cycling, biogenesis, and longevity pathways in a quantifiable way.”   “Taurine turns BioBlue from a fast-acting energy compound into a cellular longevity stack—supporting repair, recycling, and resilience.”   “By increasing colloidal gold and silver within their optimal bio-signal zones, BioBlue transforms from a chemical redox supplement into a biophysical energy transducer.”   “Each change — from Litewater to taurine — was made to help your mitochondria run longer, cleaner, and more accurately. This is longevity through bioenergetics.” Episode Timeline 00:00 – Announcements: Pre-Black Friday + new website 04:00 – The origin of BioBlue and its evolution 10:00 – Introducing the upgraded BioBlue formula 11:00 – Why BioLight partnered with Light Water 12:00 – How deuterium slows mitochondrial ATP production 17:00 – Functional benefits of deuterium-depleted water 19:00 – 10x increase in NMN for energy and repair 27:00 – Synergy between NMN and methylene blue 30:00 – Adding taurine for stability and longevity 39:00 – Increasing colloidal gold for photonic synergy 46:00 – Boosting colloidal silver for redox protection 52:00 – Why lowering fulvic acid improves coherence 56:00 – What's next: BioBlue Light + legacy pricing offer 01:02:00 – Dr. Mike's closing thoughts on mitochondrial optimization Resources & References Deuterium Depletion and Mitochondrial Efficiency Boros, L. In this short episode I give a crash course on what I believe to be the most important supplements to take when you feel like you are dealing with a viral infection. I prioritize vitamin, mineral, and enzyme supplements before going to herbs, methylene blue, or antiparasitics. Vitamins and minerals are foundational and deficiencies are common. During an acute or long-term infection your burn rate of nutrients will be a lot higher so you must supplement accordingly. I talk about the importance of taking copper if you're taking zinc, the exact biochemical mechanisms how ascorbic acid works to balance the system, the lipid peroxidation and viral connection, why vitamin E is an underrated supplement, why superoxide dismutase (SOD) is so important to support during long covid, how lithium has been a known anti viral since 1980, and why melatonin should be a crucial part of your antiviral medicine cabinet. In Episode 161 of the Fit Mother Project Podcast, Dr. Anthony Balduzzi sits down with Dr. Catharine Arnston, founder and CEO of ENERGYbits, to explore one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet — algae. With over 15 years dedicated to researching and educating about spirulina and chlorella, Dr. Arnston shares her fascinating journey from a career in international business to becoming a global advocate for algae nutrition. It all started when her sister's battle with breast cancer inspired her to learn about plant-based nutrition and the healing power of alkaline foods.Dr. Arnston explains why spirulina and chlorella are considered superfoods among superfoods — boasting more protein per gram than steak, rich in essential fatty acids, packed with B vitamins, chlorophyll, antioxidants, and powerful compounds like phycocyanin and superoxide dismutase (SOD). Can Ginkgo Biloba Help Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Functional Medicine Research with Dr. Nikolas Hedberg

If you're struggling with chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) or debilitating tiredness that just won't go away, you're not alone—and you're not imagining things. Millions of people suffer from persistent fatigue that conventional medicine often fails to resolve. Fatigue and stress can make everyday tasks like working at a computer feel overwhelming, as seen in this image, which represents the experience of many with chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) At the Hedberg Institute, I'm always researching botanical compounds that support microcirculation, mitochondrial health, and immune regulation—all vital in restoring energy. That's why I formulated VascuSelect, a synergistic supplement that contains three powerful plant extracts: Ginkgo biloba, grape seed extract, and mango whole fruit powder. Let's dive into why Ginkgo biloba, in particular, stands out for those dealing with ME/CFS and how it works alongside other ingredients in VascuSelect to support your energy and vitality. An Important Study: Ginkgo Biloba for ME/CFS A recent paper published in Frontiers in Pharmacology (2022) titled “A Botanical Product Containing Cistanche and Ginkgo Extracts Potentially Improves Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Symptoms in Adults: A Randomized, Double-Blind, and Placebo-Controlled Study” sheds important light on Ginkgo's role in combating chronic fatigue. In this gold-standard clinical trial, 101 adults with ME/CFS received a botanical supplement combining Ginkgo biloba extract (120 mg/day) and Cistanche tubulosa extract (300 mg/day) or a placebo for 60 days. The results were impressive: Significant reductions in fatigue severity Improved physical performance and VO₂ max Enhanced antioxidant status and reduced oxidative stress markers Improved sleep quality and concentration Enhanced quality of life (QOL) and sexual life (SLQ) scores Decreased blood levels of lactic acid and ammonia (both fatigue biomarkers) What's particularly exciting is that Ginkgo biloba played a central role in this formulation. The authors noted that Ginkgo's flavonoids and terpenoids contribute to neuroprotection, vasodilation, and mitochondrial support, all of which are key areas of dysfunction in ME/CFS patients. This study confirms that Ginkgo biloba, known for enhancing blood flow and antioxidant activity, can play a central role in reducing the burdens of ME/CFS. How Ginkgo Biloba Helps Fight Fatigue Ginkgo biloba (standardized to 24% flavonol glycosides and 6% terpenes) is one of the most studied botanical extracts for circulatory and cognitive health. But its applications go far beyond brain support—especially for those with energy-depleting illnesses like ME/CFS. Ginkgo biloba is one of the oldest and most studied medicinal plants. It's been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine, but modern science is now validating its applications for conditions like ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, and Long COVID. 1. Improves Microcirculation Ginkgo biloba increases blood flow, especially in the small vessels of the brain and extremities. This is critical in ME/CFS, where impaired oxygen delivery to tissues can worsen fatigue. 2. Supports Mitochondrial Function Many people with ME/CFS experience dysfunctional mitochondria—the energy-producing engines of cells. Ginkgo has been shown to protect mitochondrial membranes and improve ATP production, helping the body generate more usable energy. 3. Reduces Oxidative Stress Oxidative stress is a hallmark of ME/CFS and contributes to inflammation, brain fog, and fatigue. Ginkgo's rich flavonoid profile helps neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative damage. In the study mentioned above, participants taking Ginkgo and Cistanche showed significant increases in antioxidant enzymes like SOD and CAT. 4. Enhances Neurotransmitter Function Ginkgo biloba modulates neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine—chemicals that regulate mood,

Could the answer to women's health be found in a microscopic superfood well known in Asia? When Catharine Arnston's sister received a breast cancer diagnosis in 2008, neither could have predicted it would launch Catharine into a 15-year deep dive into what might be the most overlooked superfood on the planet: algae. What began as research into alkaline diets evolved into a mission to transform how we approach women's health, especially during the challenging perimenopause and menopause transitions.   In this information-packed conversation, you'll discover the "double hit" women face during menopause, and why your mitochondria are literally "the lights in your building" that start dimming with age. Catharine reveals the critical enzyme (SOD) that protects your mitochondria but dramatically declines after age 30, how spirulina contains the highest concentration of this enzyme in the world, why the blue pigment in spirulina (phycocyanin) has scientists excited about its cancer-fighting potential, and why popular "green powders" and many algae supplements fail to deliver the promised benefits. We also explore the benefits of chlorella for detoxification and overall wellness and how incorporating algae into our daily routine plays a critical role in maintaining our cellular health. Listen to discover why Catharine believes "it's never too late to feel good" and how this microscopic superfood might just be the missing piece in your wellness puzzle.   Catch the full episode on YOUTUBE HERE: https://bit.ly/NatalieJillYouTube   Learn more about Catharine and EnergyBits at:  www.instagram.com/energybits  www.midlifeconversations.com/energybits    Free Gifts for being a listener of Midlife Conversations!
