Latvian duo Taran & Lomov present 'Semper Supra' – their debut LP on their own label Amber Muse; a refined and accomplish long player that showcases the tip of an iceberg patiently built across two dedicated and long-spanning careers in the music industry. Together, the pair have managed to earn the coveted stripes of 'jack of many, master of many' across a fruitful and symbiotic 20 years. They've turned their hands to promotion, production, remixing, radio hosting, music journalism and DJing. At this point, they have a gilded resume that includes support for their releases from the likes of Jane Fitz and Laurent Garnier, releases on W&O Street Tracks, Josh Wink's Ovum Recordings and Dense & Pika's Kneaded Pains as Queer On Acid and of course – their basecamp – the Amber Muse Radio show. Musically, 'Semper Supra' is a genre-flexing trip with its roots in early 2000s Minimal and late 90s Electronica. 9 tracks bearing flecks of influence from labels like Time Passages, Perlon and Warp as well as artists such as Black Dog, Metamatics, Binh and Jan Jelenik meld in a head-twisting brew - one that caters to listeners on any point in the spectrum between after-hours raver to armchair astronaut. The glue in the record is the subtly haunting energy omitted by the synths, sweeps and atmospherics that course through the album. The spectral glow these conjure hangs gently over a variety of bpms and intensities, keepings things suffused in a dubby fog that gives a living, breathing sense of space and atmosphere. Case and point being 'Nano Crab' - a patient, frosty recording that stacks energy in subtly folding layers of mangled, otherworldly signals and primal rhythms. 'Slow East' follows up with a skeletal Electro track that oozes with an ominous mood often clocked in Nicolas Lutz's extended sets. The warped robotics and cold sonics of 'Slickers' are given life and mobility via groove and clever sequencing while 'Corp' whips up into a more frenzied zone. Alarm tones burnt and bit crushed while drums move with the sort of urgency required for boiling point dance floors before the title track provides an allaying landing pad as it scatters pin-prick melodies across a wide, icy soundscape. ambermuse.com/taran-lomov-bio facebook.com/TaranLomov ra.co/dj/taranlomov soundcloud.com/ambermuse facebook.com/AmberMuseRec instagram.com/ambermuserec

Over the past few years it really has been delightful watching Jane Fitz receive the rightful praise she has deserved for a long time. As a key figure in the British dance and electronic music scene she has worked hard to assert herself as one of the most important selectors and disc jockeys on the circuit and longstanding residencies at the likes of Freerotation and Night Moves have helped cement her place. In the booth she spins an eclectic mix of house, techno, ambient, acid and the abstract. Her sets weave between style, genre and pace in an intriguing fashion as she guides dancers into the small hours. With sets at the likes of Panoramabar, Tresor, Concrete and more all under her belt you can bet your last dollar that this one will bang with precision and eloquence. Jane Fitz will appear at Love International next week, the Croatian festival will take place at The Garden in Tisno from the 27th of June.

Stepping up for this fresh Avenue Red addition is yet another local Newcastle lad, Simon Leeks, who is co-boss of Newcastle outfit Backdrop. Simon and co have put on some monster events up here over the last couple of years, with some ace guests including Amir Alexander, Jane Fitz, Levon Vincent, Ethyl & Flori and Tama Sumo b2b Prosumer (All Night Long) among other noteworthy bookings. Simon has used this mix as an opportunity to make a sort of "megamix" out of THE underground cult techno release of 2016: Convextion's 2845 LP. He makes utility of this double 12" album as a planet of spacey futuristic sounds around which he throws into orbit some other spacey, deep and vibrant Techno/Electro inclusions. It makes for a very satisfying, trippy listen overall and a great package through which fans of 2845 can enjoy the album all over again in a fresh context. "I'd sent Alec two previous mixes, both of which were not appropriate for this podcast. Seeing as I run a fairly firm techno night, Backdrop, along with Fraser Pearston, Hester Cheuk and Joseph Clarke, I found this mix tough. However, I also found that the drive it gave me to search for tunes outside of my prime selection area/comfort zone to be really inspiring. I'd also like to say that we have a close marra, Sean Hodgson, currently laid up in hospital and this mix was done with him in mind. Thanks to Alec for putting this out, and you for listening - enjoy!" Spanish label, Downbeat, came to life as a party launching in 2007, later releasing their debut cut - Specter's 'Mind Over Matter' EP in 2009. Prioritising quality over quantity, Downbeat carefully curate consistent releases of soulful house and balearic tracks from an impressive international roster of artists including Marcellus Pittman and Mick Huckaby and champion the sounds of US house. A label with a penchant for the unusual, highlighted with tracks such as Chris Gray and Moonchildren's "It Was The Fried Chicken That Saved Our Sanity (Because The Ghetto Is Sad)" which has garnered serious play-out support from "DJ's DJs" including Jane Fitz and Owen Jay. We speak to Jose Rico, one third of the Downbeat trio alongside a mix of the smooth, slowed down, spaced-out sounds with which Downbeat have become synonymous.

Mix 070 comes from one of Crack’s favourite DJs - Jane Fitz. Since starting the seminal Peg night in the late 90’s, Jane’s been a consistently superb force for quality wigged-out dance music, and while she calls London home, the world calls to her. As a result she’s preached the gospel to clubs, rooftops and fields of dancers from New York to Bulgaria, Detroit to Berlin and Chicago to Provence. 2014’s been no different, with visits to the mythical Freerotation festival (her Sunday afternoon set at the 2013 edition was easily one of the highlights from a festival full of them) Tresor, Weather Festival, and Tel Aviv among a number of enviable bookings. The 8th episode of the Avenue Red Podcast comes from UK underground hero Carl_H (real name Carl Hardy) from Cleethorpes in the lower North East of England (though officially classed as "somewhere down South" to the folk from up here in Newcastle). Along with musical cohort Brendan Clark, Carl runs and is resident at a London-based Deep House night called Northern Purpose, which alongside it's own highly respected podcast series of the same name has a stunning roster of past guests including Daniel Bell, Mike Huckaby, Dubbyman and Jane Fitz. You get the idea! Carl also co-runs and spins records at Collective Minds in Birmingham, yet another name clearly established on the map of the UK underground music scene having had 2 big events last year that drew a lot of attention with their dazzlingly good line-ups. When we received this stunning all-vinyl mix we couldn't identify a single track. That was a first. Anyway, in his's own words... "The mix is basically a builder so you get a bit of everything from deep dub / house / techno / minimal / electronic. A lot of nice new records in there and also some old gems (in my eyes)."
