Our guest on this week's episode is John (Jay) Rogers, CEO and co-founder of Haddy. There has been a push in the past few years to do more manufacturing here at home. One of the key technologies that is enabling more domestic production is digital manufacturing. That's where Haddy comes in. Haddy is the world's first 3D printing furniture manufacturer powered by AI and advanced robotic technology. Jay Rogers talks with us about this unique approach to manufacturing. A new report from Colliers, the industrial real estate firm, reveals data on fourth quarter warehouse construction. The report shows that renters of warehouse space should begin to see some relief after the seriously steep rent hikes they're seen in recent years. The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) released its annual list of the nation's top truck bottlenecks. This is the group's 14th annual report on this issue. Its goal is not only to identify the top congested freight markets, but also to help local, state, and federal governments target funding to areas most in need of relief. The full report shares ways to reduce chokepoints, lower emissions, and drive economic growth. Supply Chain Xchange also offers a podcast series called Supply Chain in the Fast Lane. It is co-produced with the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. A series of ten episodes is now available on the "State of Logistics." The episodes provide in-depth looks into the current states of key transportation modes, such as trucking, rail, air, and ocean. It also looks at inventory management, 3PLs and more. All ten episodes are available to stream now. Go to your favorite podcast platform to subscribe and to listen to past and future episodes. Eric Stearns and Jay Rogers of Stearns Financial are back for another episode to share how their firm's LifeNotes Strategy can help rescue a credit union's deferred compensation plan, including 457(f) and collateral assignment split-dollar (CASD) plans. With lower-than-average dividends and interest rates impacting projection illustrations, credit unions are searching for ways to reduce the duration of these plans and get repaid earlier while maintaining favorable tax treatment and benefits to their executives. Eric, principal at Stearns Financial, provides use cases in which the LifeNotes Strategy can help augment or change an existing deferred compensation plan for the greatest value to all parties involved. Stream the episode to hear how your credit union can use the new strategy to address various duration, risk, and capital challenges.
In a previous podcast interview, Jay Rogers of Stearns Financial shared the firm's groundbreaking LifeNotes Strategy. The process involves purchasing life insurance-based plans to develop more adaptive features that aim to reduce duration risk and increase value to credit unions and executive participants. In this episode, Eric Stearns, principal at Stearns Financial, joins the show to share use cases of how the LifeNotes Strategy has helped credit unions optimize their credit union-owned life insurance (CUOLI) plans. Stream the episode to hear examples that might give you ideas to help your credit union and executives gain more value and flexibility to navigate a changing world.
One of the original intentions has always been to leverage life insurance-based executive benefits, such as collateral assignment split dollar plans, to retain a credit union executive. However, these plans generally come with floating maturity dates that may not be tenable long-term. So, what happens when the original goal of these benefits changes; for example, when an executive considers leaving the organization sooner than expected or for other reasons? In these scenarios, credit unions have historically been forced to keep a less desirable asset on their balance sheet—until now. Jay Rogers, senior executive consultant and director of business development at Stearns Financial, shares how credit unions can now use a new strategy to create or modify adaptive life insurance-based benefits plans that are attractive to credit unions and executives. Stream the episode to learn how Stearns Financial is helping credit unions remove the risks inherent to traditional life insurance-based benefit plans to create more value for everyone involved.
PICKING UP THE PACE|Jay Rogers, founder and CEO of haddy- a 3D -printed furniture company, joins host Gregg Garrett to discuss the lessons he learned by 3D printing autonomous vehicles and how the team is now looking to disrupt the complete supply chain of a less regulated industry with a similar product set. Of course, Jay speaks about his Top 3: God, who is part of his life everyday, his boys who help him to learn and reverse mentor him, and 3-star General Mike Dana who specializes in servant leadership. And you have to hear what he has to say about reading by candlelight. ABOUT JAY ROGERS John “Jay” Rogers is CEO and Co-Founder of haddy inc. – a pioneering digital manufacturing company serving the furniture industry and built on revolutionary technology and IP. Haddy is changing the way furniture is designed, built, delivered, and recycled. It is the world's first micro-manufacturer of furniture produced through a proprietary method of direct digital manufacturing (“DDM”). Through DDM, haddy enables more rapid technology and material adoption and a superior resilient supply chain. Jay grew up a lover of woodworking, machines, and a student of industry; his grandfather owned the legendary Indian Motorcycle Company, founded concrete and steel giant Texas Industries, and was the first Cummins Engine Distributor in the United States. Jay's grandfather is also credited with saving the Public Broadcasting System during the Nixon Administration and founding the Children's Television Workshop, which is best known for Sesame Street. In combining his family legacy of manufacturing, his military leadership, entrepreneurship, and education, Jay has hand selected a team of co-founders and set forth on a most ambitious plan: Creating, heroic, beautiful, durable furniture for retailers, to their design, built locally in the most resilient and sustainable manner. He graduated from Princeton University and went to a startup in China and then to Ewing & Partners where he became a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). After that, he went on to the US Marine Corps where he served for 9 years in the infantry in the western Pacific and Iraq, to Harvard Business School and to become a consultant for McKinsey & Co. Most recently, he founded and led Local Motors, a next generation vehicle OEM. It was there that Jay discovered the basic technology of DDM, and in 2021 he handed over the reins of Local Motors to a new investor group and left to start haddy full-time. The story of how communities of customers and suppliers can effectively participate in the innovation and creation of leading technology products is a journey Jay shares widely. He has spoken at BIF, PopTech, TedX, Picnic in Amsterdam, Do Conference in Wales, St Gallen Symposium, the White House conference on making, CES, CeBIT, IMTS, Singularity University, and many more conclaves. Additionally, the story of American innovation, co-creation and digital manufacturing has been shared on Discovery, PBS, Fox, CNBC, and Speed Channel. You can find Jay's impact first in long form narrative as part of many books, starting with MacroWikinomics written by Don Tapscott and Anthony D. Williams and more recently in America's Moment: Creating Opportunity in the Connected Age by Rework America and Zoe Baird. His work has also been featured in Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Wired, Top Gear, AutoWeek, Inc., Details, Forbes, and others. In 2020, he was awarded the honor of leading Local Motors to one of the top 10 global innovative transportation companies by Popular Science. Jay is a director of the RBR Foundation, which gives annually to the cause of childhood education and development. He is the father of 4 boys who are growing up in a connected age and whom, he hopes, will take advantage of the incredible opportunity that the internet has given the world. Visit Jay, haddy and the future of American Manufacturing Innovation in Tampa, FL where the first haddy microfactory is being built, and where he calls headquarters and home. For Video Edition, Please Click and Subscribe Here: https://youtu.be/1gXmmJR6ppk The Magic of Believing: An Excerpt from Broadway World, by Stephen Mosher Aug. 6, 2019 The musical autobiography that Mr. Skipper presented was a true celebration of a gifted entertainer and a resilient human being – and it was an absolute delight. The standing-room-only audience was a veritable who's who of cabaret luminaries, all on hand to hear Skipper's tale, and it did not disappoint. Armed with only a few songs and impeccable comic timing , Richard spent most of his time on stage regaling with stories that anyone could relate to – especially anyone with a childhood dream of going on the stage, anyone who had been a small-town misfit, anyone from the south, or anyone with fond remembrances of New York of the 70s/80s. The over-forty crowd was so captivated by Skipper that only one person was seen tiptoeing out for a restroom break, an unheard-of feat in a two hour evening of theatre. Skipper's ability to paint a picture with words brought to life characters one might easily find in the writings of Willa Cather or Armistead Maupin, and it didn't matter that the characters weren't famous enough to give the audience a frame of reference because the true star of the night was the story being told. Oh, there were famous names, make no mistake: it would be impossible for Mr. Skipper to speak about his life without some delicious name-dropping, but it wasn't essential, except in the case of Carol Channing, for obvious reasons. Skipper's audience hung on his every word, riotous laughter and uncontrollable vocal response ringing in the air, and while much credit goes to his director, Jay Rogers, it was clear that the time for Richard Skipper to be celebrated is now. Our episode today is about the future of ____. We left that last part blank because you can decide for yourself. We interview Jay Rogers and Vikrant Aggarwal who are, respectively, the CEO co-founder and president of Local Motors. I could tell you that Local Motors is an automotive manufacturing company, but that would be criminally uninformative. Local Motors makes vehicles that are unusual, and makes them in an unusual way. Their marquis product, Olli, is a fully autonomous, electric vehicle shuttle bus. Their manufacturing process relies on Direct Digital Manufacturing (DDM), hybrid additive and subtractive manufacturing, and is designed around "microfactories" – hence the local in local motors. This conversation is about the future of mobility, manufacturing, work, supply chain, energy, you decide. And, on what other podcast can you get a CEO talking about Nobel winning Harry Markowitz, Michael Porter, Nassim Taleb, Oprah Winfrey and the Wolverine movies? If you haven’t yet rated and reviewed our show – Please do! It only takes a minute, and it really helps. Starting with the next episode, we'll read our favorite review left for us on Apple Podcasts, so make a it a good one.

Skipper's love of the theatre, performance and the arts in general has been a lifelong one. MakingChips is back with another live podcast from IMTS 2018. On this episode, Jim and Jason discuss what’s on the manufacturing horizon with guests Lonnie Love, Jay Rogers, and Adrian Allen. During times of rapid growth, long-term thinking can easily take a back seat to the next urgent task. Many manufacturing leaders lack the ability to see beyond the immediate future to think more clearly about manufacturing a decade from now. On this episode, hear the prophets of manufacturing share what they envision our industry will look like in 10 years. Connect with us:www.MakingChips.com/contact How automation is transforming the future of manufacturing Automation and digitization isn’t the future. It is the present. However, automation will greatly impact the future of manufacturing. Panelist Jay Rogers says, “Digital manufacturing is all about being able to improve the speed of design and delivery of a part.” The impact will be most obvious in the automotive industry. It is a huge segment of manufacturing, drawing two and three-tier companies to develop and manufacture parts that are used in the industry. Hear the panelists discuss how autonomy is driving innovation in manufacturing. What does the machine shop of the future look like? A shop floor has a reputation for being dark and dirty. That’s not the reality in the present and it certainly isn’t true for the future machine shop. So what will the future shop floor look like? Lonnie Love says he envisions the future machine shop to be microfactory that can make anything. The flexibility that technology is opening up for companies is allowing them to diversify the products they can make. Adrian Allen adds that he sees a future where the whole factory floor is that actual machine tool bed, where the machines come to the part rather than the part going to the machine. Changes manufacturers need to make today to be a part of the future In order to prepare for the future of your company, you have to consider the customer of the future. The desire for on-demand solutions is the norm. Manufacturers must start building machines that can meet their futures customers needs. Leaders also have to begin considering their workforce. Adrian Allen says that recruiting talent is a key. Having machines that can do amazing work but lacking the talent of engineers will make those great machines irrelevant. The workforce is critical and there is a skills gap that must be addressed. Listen as the panel discusses ways to address the skills gap with practical ways to recruit and develop talent. Future challenges and opportunities for the manufacturing industry The future is both scary and exciting. Innovation and technology have increased the pace to such a degree that manufacturing leaders can’t afford to resist change. The time to consider the future and make preparations to adapt is now. Prepare to take some risk so that you don’t get left behind. Listen as the panelists give some final tips for how to do just that. They discuss the impact of future recessions, how to integrate sustainable and environmentally friendly, energy efficient processes, and how to help change the perception of manufacturing to attract the next generation of talent. Be inspired as you listen to this episode of MakingChips. Here’s The Good Stuff! Introduction of panelist Lonnie Love, Jay Rogers and Adrian Allen How is the advent of autonomous vehicles going to affect the manufacturing industry? What does the machine shop of the future look like What changes do manufacturers need to make now so that they can be a part of the future of manufacturing Ways to address the skills gap in manufacturing Economic predictions about how a recession might affect manufacturing How does sustainability and environmental consciousness impact manufacturing and the legislation around it? How manufacturing leaders need to think differently about their human resources in order to keep the right people in the right seats in their company The panel gives their final word to manufacturing leaders Tools & Takeaways MTForecast Conference This Week’s Superstar Guest Lonnie Love Jay Rogers Adrian Allen Connect With MakingChips www.MakingChips.com On Facebook On LinkedIn On Instagram On Twitter On YouTube Subscribe to Making Chips on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Stitcher, or Spotify

Kentucky had not had a fatal distillery accident since Prohibition until the morning of April 24, 2015, when the still at the Silver Trail Distillery suddenly over-pressurized and exploded. Distillers Jay Rogers and Kyle Rogers were hit with a blast of steam followed by burning alcohol, and both men suffered severe burns. Kyle Rogers died 17 days later at Nashville's Vanderbilt University Medical Center, while Jay Rogers spent more than two months in the burn unit before he was released. He and Silver Trail founder Spencer Balentine share their stories of survival, the generosity of Kentucky's whiskey community, their future plans, and pay tribute to Kyle Rogers in this episode of WhiskyCast HD.
It's been a busy week in the whisky world, and there's a lot to talk about on this episode. We'll have the latest on Friday's explosion at the Silver Trail Distillery in Hardin, Kentucky that left distillers Jay Rogers and Kyle Rogers critically burned, along with the outpouring of support for them following the accident. Nine people were indicted in the theft of thousands of dollars worth of Pappy Van Winkle, Buffalo Trace, and Wild Turkey Bourbon in Kentucky, but there's a viral campaign seeking a pardon...for the whiskey. Finally, Bruichladdich's Jim McEwan suddenly announced his plan to retire in July after 52 years in the whisky business...so he really can spend more time with his family. We'll have all that, plus more of the week's news and tasting notes for one of Jim McEwan's favorite whiskies along with two single malts from 1975.
