On this episode of Decorating Pages Podcast, we dive into the atmospheric world of Gotham City from the series The Penguin. This captivating show explores the city's criminal underbelly, ruled by Oswald Cobblepot, brilliantly portrayed by an unrecognizable Colin Farrell. Joining me, your host Kim Wannop, are Production Designer Kalina Ivanoff and Set Decorator Rich Murray. They share insights into their bold and immersive design choices that brought Gotham to life. Kalina and Rich detail how they crafted a world where every element tells a story—crumbling architecture symbolizes Gotham's decay, while lavish interiors mirror the intense power struggles of its infamous residents. From dimly lit hideouts to the opulent yet ominous halls of Cobblepot's domain, their meticulous design work shapes the series' visual identity, transporting viewers into a dynamic world as dark and complex as its characters. Don't miss this in-depth discussion on the art of creating Gotham's unique and gritty atmosphere. Visit the Art Directors Guild website to explore more and vote for the ADG awards. And... don't forget to check out some of Kim's other projects, like Doctor Odyssey and A Man on the Inside for consideration.

The Grains & Legumes Nutrition Council's Whole Grain Week is coming soon (next week!). We're bringing you Elissa Price, PhD Candidate at the University of New South Wales to discuss her research findings on ultra-processed foods (UPF) and whole grains. We cover: What is food processing? Why are foods processed? Is it always bad? What is an UPF? The latest evidence on UPFs and healthRegardless of how whole grains are processed, what does the research tell us about whole grains and health? Can UPFs be part of a healthy diet? Elissa's three key takeaways on UPFs and whole grainsOne-liners you don't want to miss:“They categorise foods based on the level of processing and that UPF is that more extreme group of processing. They define an UPF based on the nature, extent and purpose of the food processing and are identified foods that have gone through more extensive processing.”“Higher ultra-processed food intake and worse health outcomes. Off the Bench for TWO weeks will be hosted by Reid and Casey. Lots of News regarding the Cincinnati Bengals yesterday! The day started with Tee Higgins requesting a trade right before the day began. We covered this on Monday but will touch more on it today with possible scenarios. The Bengals would then resign some key components to the team like Drew Sample, ADG, and Trayveon Williams. Bengals then signed an exterior free agent Geno Stone Safety from Baltimore Ravens. Played great last year with 7 INTs one coming from Joe Burrow. Later on in the evening, we learned that the Bengals were given a 3RD ROUND COMP PICK! Big for their draft and potential trades in the future. Finally late last night we learned that the Bengals had finally parted ways with Joe Mixon and signed Zach Moss a younger more explosive running back for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Before getting into the meat of this week's show, there was major Oscar news this past week, as the Academy announced the addition of a brand new category for the 2025/2026 season, Best Casting. While there is a lot of speculation as to the rules of this new category, but this is a welcome addition to the Oscar lineup. Moving onto the awards talk, the guys talk about the recent wins at the DGA and ADG awards ceremonies from this past weekend, which saw not only Christopher Nolan get closer to an Oscar win for Best Director, but a real race for Best Production Design between Poor Things, Oppenheimer, and Barbie. This led right into the BAFTA predictions conversation, which could open up the race and lead to some surprises from this overseas voting body that has a big cross over with the Academy. Films like Oppenheimer, Poor Things should do well, with The Zone of Interest, Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers and All of Us Strangers looking to play spoiler in a few categories. Winners will be handed out next weekend and we will discuss them on next week's show. Then in the back half of the episode, as Valentine's Day rolls around this coming week, Ryan, Erik and Dan discuss their favorite romantic comedies. They talk about what they love about the genre, what makes them work, some of their favorite films and memorable theater experiences seeing them, as well as what they would like to see going forward when it comes to rom-coms. Escuchar audio

Ray Lauenstein is the Director of Business Development at ADG (Aquatic Development Group), a leading North American waterpark design, construction, and manufacturing firm. From a young age, Ray had a passion for water and nature while he was exploring, and this passion continued to follow him through his professional career. After starting in sports leisure and baseball training, Ray found his way to ADG through a friend's recommendation, where he rekindled his love for water. With over a decade of experience at ADG, Ray was recently promoted to Director of Business Development, where he aims to bring the joy of water to people around the world. In this interview, Ray shares insights on the history of making waves, water amenities beyond traditional water parks, and surfing without the ocean. History of Making Waves “When you stand still, you fade away.” ADG initially entered the industry as a pool contractor, constructing Olympic-sized pools for clients in the region. However, as the market for traditional pools began to decline, ADG's leadership recognized the need to innovate and set themselves apart. They started drawing inspiration from around the world, and ventured into the market of creative water, which ultimately definesd their identity today. As ADG continued to grow and innovate, they acquired other companies and continued to find inspiration for their products, which can now be found in water parks worldwide. Today, ADG is a design-build firm and manufacturer, offering a wide range of products and services to help clients take their next big dive in the market. Water Amenities Outside of Water Parks “Everyone loves water.” While ADG is well-known for their work in water parks, they have expanded their reach into other sectors as well. They have worked with clients in RV resorts, zoos, aquariums, and other areas where water-based entertainment could add another dimension to the experience. ADG's focus on innovation has allowed them to continue pushing the boundaries of what's possible, and their expertise in creating unique water experiences is highly sought after by their clients. Water features are a versatile and universal attraction that can enhance any environment, regardless of language or cultural barriers. Whether it's a pool in a sports stadium or an interactive spray pool in an aquarium, these water features can add a dynamic and immersive dimension to any experience. The appeal of water-based entertainment is widespread, and by incorporating these features into new areas, the guest experience can be taken to another level. Surfing Without the Ocean “Surf is the anchor, and we're layering it with the social piece.” Starting with a small attraction off of I–drive in Orlando, ADG has always been working to create surf technology ahead of its time. Since catching their first wave, ADG has gone through many renditions of their compact surfing simulator, eventually leading them to epic-surf, a surfing simulator that can use a real surfboard with a water depth of 3-5 ft. With this innovation, ADG can create new experiences for land-locked guests, and also help inspire the next generation of great surfers. After all, anywhere people can find a wave, they'll ride it. By taking advantage of this growing market ADG hopes to take compact-footprint surfing to the next level. To connect with Ray, you can find him on LinkedIn.
