September 21, 2022 - Season 13, Episode 24 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the latest news concerning the Pittsburgh Steelers and that includes recent practice squad developments, Tuesday injury reports, and the retirement of former cornerback Joe Haden.Tuesday included Matt Canada, Teryl Austin and quarterback Mitch Trubisky all talking to the media so Alex and I go over the key talking points from those media sessions. We spend extra time on quarterback audibling abilities and up-tempo being used more on offense moving forward and if we'll see an increase in either of those things from the Steelers on a short week.Alex and I have both fully digested the all-22 tape from the Steelers' Week 2 home loss to the New England Patriots, so we make sure to go over our closing thoughts on that Sunday contest. We talk a lot about Canadas's offense in this segment as well as the play of Trubisky. The Steelers will play the Cleveland Browns on the road Thursday night so to help us get ready for that matchup, Scott Petrak once again joins us. Scott covers the Browns at BrownsZone.com and as usual, he provides great pregame intel on the team ahead of the Thursday night game. If not already doing so, please follow Scott on Twitter at @ScottPetrak and read his work online.Alex and I then move on to our own preview of the Thursday night game later in this show and that segment includes our predictions for the game.We mix in other Steelers talk throughout this episode that is not noted in this recap post, and then we close this show out by hitting the e-mail machine for a few listener questions.

Diontae Johnson was injured in the Steelers final preseason game. Despite Mike Tomlin saying Johnson would return if it were a regular season game, Johnson disputed that, and his status for Sunday is in question.  The contract of TJ Watt has been restructured, which gives the Steelers flexibility to add a player as the regular season comes around. Should the Steelers kick the tires on Eric Fisher? They don't need a generational talent at left tackle, but they need someone better than Dan Moore Jr. Poni speculated the team having money open to bring back Joe Haden. Chris said that concerns him for two reasons – they seem to be happy with the offensive line and they aren't happy with their corners. The guys agreed fixing, or at least attempting to fix the offensive line is the first move you have to make.  Award-winning 93.7 The Fan reporter Josh Rowntree joined the show. Josh talked about a near battle he got into in the Steelers locker room today with a national cameraman. The guys jumped to the team and Josh talked about what Mason Rudolph said today. Josh said he wouldn't blame Rudolph for requesting a trade. Josh gave his report on what to make of Diontae Johnson and the injury that could keep him out of Sunday's game. He said the vibe from Johnson wasn't very optimistic.

Chris Simms has Kenny Pickett ranked 39th among quarterbacks in the NFL. Along with that, he does not have Mitch Trubisky ranked. The guys debated if Kenny is already the best QB on the roster. The guys went through some of the QBs ranked ahead of Kenny, including Tyrod Taylor, Davis Mills, Gardner Minshew and Teddy Bridgewater. Some of the bigger insults were Sam Darnold and Geno Smith both being ranked higher.   Steve Palazzolo from Pro Football Focus joined the show. Steve defended PFF's ranking of Najee Harris outside of the Top 10, but said if he made the list, he would have Harris in the Top 10 and maybe the Top 5. Steve said he would take the career of Aaron Rodgers over the career of Ben Roethlisberger without much hesitation. Steve talked about how Big Ben held back the Steelers offense last year. With Stephon Tuitt in question, Steve said Tuitt is a “very good player – not as good as Cam Heyward, but a very good player.” He said aging corners like Joe Haden may have trouble finding a home. Steve ranked Kenny Pickett and Mitch Trubisky – saying both would be in the 35-40 range. Steve said for the Steelers case, whenever it's time to go to Pickett, the Steelers should make the move.  Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher are going at it. BREAKING NEWS: Jordan Addison is heading to USC.

Doug says that younger players should be at every phase of OTA's. He also thinks the Steelers could still add to their secondary. Doug says that the Steelers should circle back on Joe Haden if he would be okay with a one-year deal. He also talked about the nature of a CB depth chart in the modern game. Colin asked Doug about the nuances of new staff members fitting into gameday...Doug says there is a misconception that coaches and GM's don't work together around the league. Doesn't necessarily think Tomlin has more power than other coaches. On the topic of Andy Weidl Doug says that defense, running the ball are foundational in Baltimore. In Philly, Weidl had to help maximize draft capital. Doug thinks that DeShaun Watson will ultimately be suspended 6-8 games.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made wide receiver a priority in the 2022 NFL Draft. But were George Pickens and Calvin Austin III the best options? The two provide dynamic skillsets that could make each player a premier receiver in the NFL, and potentially make the 2022 Steelers wide receiver draft class the best of the year. Where do they rank next to the Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Brown wide receivers, and could the defense have a plan to include Joe Haden's return? Or should they look at cornerback free agents like Kevin King? Chris Carter, NFL and NCAAF analyst, hosts the Locked on Steelers Podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Myles Jack in free agency to address their linebacker position next to Devin Bush, but also to maybe be the answer to their linebacker problems if Bush doesn't work out. It's clear Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin are aiming to build an elite defense, and that with Jack's contract details, they're not done adding to the defense. The Steelers also cut Joe Schobert and Zach Banner, opening up salary cap space for potentially another big signing. Rumors are still floating the safety Tyrann Mathieu is in the mix and Cam Heyward is pushing to turn that into a reality. But should the Steelers still be looking at signing a cornerback who could be CB1 for the team? Ahkello Witherspoon and Joe Haden are both still free agents, but so is Stephon Gilmore. Could Colbert and Tomlin be looking to make one more splash at cornerback or safety? And, Tomlin, Brian Flores and the Steelers' brass showed up in a big way to look at the Georgia Bulldogs' Pro Day. But who are they looking at the most to add in the NFL Draft. Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt both look like super defensive tackles to join the roster. The linebacker trio of Nakobe Dean, Quay Walker and Channing Tindall take a step back in necessity because of Jack, but might still be in play on Day 2 of the NFL Draft, while Tomlin looked really close at wide receiver George Pickens. Still, the sleeper of the group who could be the sneakiest pick of them all for the Steelers could be safety Lewis Cine. Follow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques. The Buffalo Bills and the rest of the NFL teams are free to sign free agents beginning at 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 16. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D'Amico run through a list of free agents they would like to see Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane sign this offseason as the Bills look to finally get over the hump and win their first Super Bowl. Among the players and discussed: Former Arizona Cardinals edge rusher Chandler Jones would make for an ideal addition to a Buffalo pass rush that needs to add an elite pass rusher, and rumor has it the interest is mutual. If Jones doesn't come to Buffalo, former Miami Dolphin Emmanuel Ogbah would make for a nice consolation prize at edge rusher. At the tight end position, the Bills enjoyed plenty of success in 2021 when they ran and threw using two tight ends. Former New York Giant Evan Engram would be a fantastic complement to Dawson Knox, and he offers up an intriguing mix of speed, athleticism and versatility. The Bills are faced with the prospect of having to replace CB2 if Levi Wallace walks in free agency. Charvarius Ward would more than make up for Wallace's departure, while Joe Haden would be a solid and relatively affordable signing to bolster Buffalo's secondary. Rasul Douglas and Casey Heyward would also represent significant upgrades at the cornerback position. If Beane makes only one move this offseason, both Boccacino and D'Amico want him to bring back Ryan Fitzpatrick to serve as Josh Allen's backup. D'Amico thinks the Bills need to look for a veteran to supplant Devin Singletary as Buffalo's RB1, while Boccacino thinks Marlon Mack would make a nice addition to the Bills' backfield. Neither Boccacino nor D'Amico wants the Bills to invest in wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster or Marquez Valdez-Scantling, though Boccacino is a proponent of signing Braxton Berrios as a valuable wideout and return specialist. Now, it's your turn. Which players do you hope Beane and the Bills sign this offseason? Pittsburgh needs to address the Cornerback position with Joe Haden slated to become a Free Agent, along with inconsistent play from their corners last season the Steelers could look to NFL Free Agency to improve their CB room. Could the Pittsburgh Steelers sign JC Jackson, currently the best CB heading into Free Agency? Pittsburgh has been rumored to have interest in Stephon Gilmore however he's 31 years old and the Steelers might want to go after younger CB's like Levi Wallace and Carlton Davis. The Carolina Panthers are still in the market for another QB. With Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers off the market, Carolina may have to find their next quarterback via Free Agency. There aren't many good QB options for the Panthers heading into NFL Free Agency. Jameis Winston could be a potential target for Carolina as he's the best QB available in Free Agency. Chris Carter, NFL and NCAAF analyst, is joined by Jenna Harner of WPXI-TV on the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers have major needs to fill in free agency, but where do they start? Stars like J.C. Jackson, Carlton Davis, Bobby Wagner are available, but so are key offensive linemen like Ryan Jensen, Terron Armstead and Brandon Scherff. What's the most important target for Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin? They'll also need to take a look at whether the team should keep pending free agents like Ahkello Witherspoon, Terrell Edmunds and Joe Haden. Cornerback becomes a very important investment, and it may become the biggest move of the offseason to make the Steelers' defense elite again in their efforts to compete with top receivers like Ja'Marr Chase. But fixing the offensive line has to be a priority, and that's why signing at least one veteran offensive lineman with pedigree should be of importance to the Steelers. Linebacker becomes tricky with a big name like Wagner, but other players like Josey Jewell and Leighton Vander Esch also come into play. But the Steelers also need to lock down a strong safety whether that's Edmunds, or a big hire like Marcus Maye or Jordan Whitehead. Finally, one overlooked position in free agency is running back, and giving Najee Harris a backup could be a sneakily cheap move that could give the offense a more than adequate player who can give Harris the rest he needs during big games.
