From Thursday's LIVE show on Twitch (Twitch.TV/GallantSays) & YouTube (YouTube.com/PaulGallant): Pete Carroll - who helped Seattle go 9-8 and make the playoffs after Russell Wilson forced his way out of town last year - isn't a coach of the year finalist. How? Plus, the 49ers seem to be dismissing the home field advantage of the Philadelphia Eagles. Who else has overrated home field advantages? And to wrap things up, I share my worst food takes [per YOU people].
Extra Points with Cousin Sal, Dave Dameshek & Charlotte Wilder
It's a Thursday edition of the Extra Points podcast with Cousin Sal, Dave Dameshek and Martin Weiss! The show starts off with the guys talking about the 20th anniversary of Jimmy Kimmel Live before previewing Bengals vs Chiefs. Then they move onto making their picks for 49ers vs Eagles and debating who should win NFL Coach of the Year between Brian Daboll, Doug Pederson and Kyle Shanahan? The show rounds out with a discussion about Scott Rolen and if he is worthy of the MLB Hall of Fame, the Carolina Panthers hiring Frank Reich and Shek's playoff fantasy league blunder. Guiding the Seahawks to the playoffs for the 10th time in 13 years when they were expected to be one of the NFL's worst teams in 2022, Pete Carroll turned in arguably the best coaching job of his career. Still, he wasn't named a finalist for NFL Coach of the Year. Hosts Corbin Smith and Dallas Cooper examine why Carroll's exclusion makes a mockery of the award and shows blatant disrespect for the remarkable job he did this season, take a look at Seattle's current offensive depth chart, and share their thoughts on which offensive players will be back in 2023 and which ones could be on the way out. Introduction: The Associated Press named five finalists for NFL Coach of the Year, and the Vikings' Kevin O'Connell wasn't one of them. That seems like a serious lack of respect for a first-year coach of a 13-win team, especially given how he help elevate MVP candidate Justin Jefferson. 7:00: Sarah McLellan joins host Michael Rand for a discussion of the Wild. After three straight losses, there are plenty of questions -- particularly as some roster sorting comes to the forefront. 27:00: The Wolves bounced back with a win over the Pelicans, two nights after a bad loss. That's how this team operates. Plus, will the Gophers win more in the back half of the Big Ten schedule?
In the third hour, Dave Softy Mahler and Dick Fain chat with Kevin Harlan about the Bills and both conference championships this Sunday, then the guys discuss the nominees for NFL Coach of the Year not including Pete Carroll and two polls from Dick on Twitter.
In the second hour of VSiN Primetime, hosts Tim Murray and Shaun King break the NFL Coach of the Year finalists. Then, the guys are joined by ESPN NFL Reporter Nick Wagoner to preview the NFC Championship Game and some Receiving Props for the matchup.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Dan Barreiro opens the show explaining why we shouldn't be whining that Kevin O'Connell was "snubbed" for NFL Coach of The Year finalist before our friend Gerald Posner joins to talk about the latest trend: Exorcisms.
