At the end of 2016, DAF balances were approximately $3.2 billion…and expected to double over the next decade. But even with that growth in number and popularity, a full picture of Canadian donor-advised funds has been lacking…until now. The celebrities you see on television or on the big screen are often very different from the characters they play. Karen Hudson will share some surprising insights about celebrities she has met during her career in show business. Karen Hudson's life story might be titled "From Out-House to Penthouse”. Karen grew up on a farm in Kansas where she attended a one-room school that was built in the 1880's. The school had no running water and out-house toilets. The Penthouse would be her 25 year career as a Costumer in the Hollywood Television and Film Industry. Karen's claim to fame is that her name appears on the credits of the pilot and every episode for "Hill Street Blues" as the Women's Key Costumer. Karen began designing Opera costumes as an under-graduate at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. She continued studying at The University of Texas at Austin where she received a graduate-degree in Costume Design and Directing. While in Austin, Karen designed costumes for "Carrascolendas", a children's show for PBS. Since retiring from the Film Industry, Karen has taken the knowledge she gained as a costumer and written a book, "Dressed to Speak, Live and in the Media". It outlines how to dress when you will be filmed in Hi Definition and on Green Screen. These concepts are also effective when choosing what to wear to connect with people in everyday life such as in a Job Interview. In High School Karen began speaking as a member of the Debate Team. Since 1991 she has expanded her speaking experience to include Toastmasters where she achieved a DTM, Distinguished Toastmaster speaking level. Karen currently speaks about Dressing to Connect and achieve your goals. You can find Karen on-line at karenthudson.com
