This week, I'm sharing how I know what I can and can't control and how that (and the Defying Gentrification Manifesto) are different based on what resources we all have. Let's tap in for the week!Defying Gentrification would be easy if I had a magic wand.People would have clean, reliable public transit at their door; they would have a basic, humane living situation, subsidized as needed, so that construction and operating costs are adjusted based on income.Said incomes would be equal and equitable, inclusive of reparations for communities marginalized by slavery and other underpayment schemes. Finally, people would love each other unconditionally, and that love would repair so many ideas about body autonomy, creativity, and freedom of movement and existence.But we live in the world we are in.Yet, I know that expressing these words on paper helps me visualize a better world and visualize how I can bring that better world out with both my unique gifts and despite my limitations.Introducing again, my Defying Gentrification Manifesto.I can have faith. I can create and cultivate. I can take care of myself. However, I need community care, infrastructure, access, and convenience to defy gentrification.So how does this connect with the circle of control?The circle of control has origins in several mental and emotional therapeutic practices, according to Therapist Aid.There are two circles, one inside of the other. Inside the circle are the things you can control, and outside of the circle are the things you can't control.Per the manifesto, I put faith, creation and cultivation, and self-care inside the circle. Community care, access, infrastructure, and convenience are outside.To make that determination, I used money. I need money for the things outside of the circle to defy gentrification, and I can do the things inside of the circle for free.Each person's circle of control is different. Just like your version of the Defying Gentrification Manifesto may be different, depending on what resources, energies, and life experiences you have. However, you should be mindful that you are listing things you do control, not bypassing things you don't want to control.If you are a real estate developer who wants to actually provide housing and build community, your manifesto and your circle of control will be different from mine.You have access to capital and probably expertise in building homes, so infrastructure, access, convenience, and community care would all be inside your circle.I can watch YouTubers who build houses. I could join a city program to teach me how to build homes. I could convince a bank to let me build an apartment building. But I haven't done those things before, and the barrier to entry for me doing them in the midnight hour, when I am in despair about not making enough money or being the kind of person who places want to hire to do a job, is high.However, I'm learning how to be a better prospector and resource-generator, so that I can cultivate and create those kinds of opportunities. But for right now. I can do that with yarn because I have so much of it, rather than wood or even my words.When I'm in despair, I can drive to the Canton Waterfront Park and park, then observe the Patapsco River, much like I used to drive to the Tanger Outlets at National Harbor to have prime access to the Potomac. Or I'd walk to the older areas of the Southwest waterfront and look out to the intersecton of the Anacostia and the Potomac.As my friend Phrie says often, water is the true gateway to our cities.Water often reminds us that it can take over the land whenever it feels like and that we can't always control it. When we try to control it, like what's happening with these over-indulging data centers, it becomes scarce.But the things we can control, and control in a way that enhances our natural spaces, then our community building, we absolutely should control.And i realize now that I don't need to despair when I don't get press calls or even the money I'd like to have.I can always type on this newsletter and send it out. I can make a portfolio website for free so you can see all that I have done. You all can go paid on said newsletter. Tedd Huff, CEO of fintech advisory firm Voalyre and founder of Fintech Confidential, sits down with Nik Milanović, Founder and FinTech Enthusiast in Chief of This Week in FinTech, a global community of more than 200,000 members, and the founder of StableCon, the first conference built exclusively around stablecoins and payments. Nik also serves as a General Partner at The FinTech Fund, where he invests in the next generation of FinTech startups.Stablecoins have spent years being called either the future of money or a passing trend. What's changed isn't just the hype cycle: it's the regulatory foundation underneath it. The passage of the GENIUS Act, the repeal of SEC guidance SAB 121 on crypto custody, and a visible shift in how banks and financial institutions are engaging with stablecoins have moved this conversation from theoretical to operational. Banks that were quietly watching are now building. Companies that had no public stablecoin strategy 12 months ago are now processing stablecoin transactions in more than 150 countries.But here's what's worth paying attention to: the version of stablecoins that actually reaches everyday people won't look like what the original crypto community envisioned. No seed phrases. No self-custody. No libertarian utopia. What mass adoption looks like is a Stripe-powered merchant settlement that runs on blockchain rails while the customer sees something that looks exactly like a credit card transaction. As Nik puts it, "the revolution has to become a lot more boring first."That's not a failure of the original idea. That's how every major technology shift has played out, from radio to the internet. The infrastructure gets built, the guardrails go in, the corporates arrive, and what was once radical becomes routine.The same pattern is showing up in how banks and FinTech companies are working together. The old model of banks acquiring technology companies and absorbing them in-house has largely failed. What's replacing it is a partnership model: tech-forward institutions like FinWise, Column Bank, and Cross River Bank figuring out how to extend their capabilities without overreaching their charters. The tension between "you're either a bank or a tech company" has given way to something more practical.That shift in thinking is exactly what Nik built StableCon around. After six years of running This Week in FinTech and hearing repeated calls to launch a conference, the case for yet another general FinTech or crypto event wasn't there. There are more than 250 conferences globally with FinTech in the title. What didn't exist was a conference sitting at the specific intersection of banking, FinTech, and crypto, focused entirely on stablecoins: not asset price speculation, not blockchain theory, but the actual infrastructure of how money moves.The conference was announced January 17, 2025. It ran May 29 in New York City. That's five months to plan, hire, sell tickets, and pull off an inaugural event in one of the most expensive cities in the world. At the start of May, only 400 tickets had been sold. In the final two weeks, 500 more sold as word spread and people realized they needed to be in the room. Final attendance: more than 1,000.What the event revealed was as important as the numbers. Attendees were so focused on meeting each other that many skipped the general sessions entirely. That's not a failure: that's what happens when you gather a thousand people who are actually working in the same ecosystem and give them a room for the first time. The feedback confirmed it: StableCon filled a gap that BTC Vegas, Token2049, Permissionless, Money 2020, Consensus, Finovate, and FinTech Nexus weren't filling.The next StableCon US is expanding to three days, moving to Washington, DC at the Gaylord at National Harbor, and shifting to September to avoid scheduling conflicts. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. It's likely that the Washington Commanders will be leaving their current home in Prince George's County for a new stadium in the District. What would happen to the Northwest Stadium site? How about the land currently home to Six Flags, which is closing close to the end of the year? Prince George's County Executive Aisha Braveboy weighed in, saying the county is already preparing for the team's departure from the 200-acre-site. Redeveloping the land, Braveboy said, could be a boon. “We didn't really get to yield the kind of revenue that, let's say a National Harbor, yields for us. I mean, we make about 70 million off National Harbor and 14 million off the Commanders," she said.Braveboy also noted the redevelopment of the soon-to-be-closed Six Flags, which sits on 500 acres, could also provide additional tax revenue for the county. Arlington County was the first local jurisdiction in the region to end single-family-only zoning, but the county is now embroiled in a lawsuit over the change. As other counties and cities make similar moves, Arlington County Board member Maureen Coffey joined the show to share lessons learned and the challenges that lie ahead. The D.C. area is feeling the effects of the federal cuts and job losses as unemployment claims rise and layoffs increase. We asked County Board member Coffey what it means for local budgets and how Arlington County is preparing for an uncertain financial future.We also discussed the Arlington Housing Commission potentially asking the Virginia General Assembly to make it easier for houses of worship to build affordable housing on their land.Coffey said the legislation could be a win-win. "I think it's reasonable to look at these properties. Faith communities own a lot of property," Coffey said. Very few people will be imprisoned the way Sam Goodwin was — for nine weeks in a harrowing situation six years ago. The Coast Guard is pursuing artificial intelligence via data analytics to enhance its diverse missions, Deputy CIO and Chief Data and AI Officer Brian Campo told GovCIO Media & Research during Sea-Air-Space in National Harbor, Maryland. Campo said that the Coast Guard is learning lessons from other military branches and DHS components to adopt a "fast follower" approach to AI. Campo emphasized the synergy between his dual roles, allowing for a streamlined approach to implementing data-driven AI solutions. Despite budgetary constraints, the Coast Guard is using AI and automation to improve efficiencies. He also said that the service is focusing on using AI to simplify and make marine regulations more accessible to mariners and other in the maritime domain.

(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Muslims beheaded 70 Christians in Congo The Islamic State of Central Africa Province, a terrorist group, is reported to have killed 107 Christians between mid-October 2024 and early January 2025 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.   In fact, more than 5,000 Christians have been killed by this Muslim terrorist group since October of 2017, according to figures recorded by the Terrorism Research and Analysis Consortium.   This just in.  International Christian Concern reports that the Islamic State of Central Africa Province, formerly known as Allied Democratic Forces, is thought to be responsible for the horrific massacre of 70 Christians by beheading in Congo's eastern Lubero Territory near the country's border with Uganda and Rwanda last week. Pray for the Congo. It's the 35th most dangerous country worldwide for Christians, according to Open Doors. God transformed Central Asian prison with Bible In their March/April Magazine, Barnabas Aid included an article entitled ”God's Word Unchained.” (page 13) It tells the story of a Christian woman who was released from prison in Central Asia after serving four years.  The unnamed Christian was able to smuggle a Bible into the prison. When administrators confronted her, she told them, “The Bible is God's Word and shows you the way for eternal life.” Four days later, the official came into the cell and told her, “You must read the book -- all of you.” Pointing to the woman, the official said, “Let her teach you all and you must listen to her!” The Christian prisoner reported that she “started to read the Bible for everyone. Many women asked me to give them the Bible, so they could read it personally. … We read the Bible aloud during the day, and some women read it in the night. The cell in which discord, slander, and enmity reigned turned into a quiet place. Women became friendly with each other.”   The sister recounted how women were healed from sickness by prayer. and even the prison staff began to request prayer for themselves and their sick relatives. She was released from prison recently, after having served four years and one month of her ten-year sentence. In Isaiah 55:11, God makes a promise about His Word: “My Word that goes out from My mouth; it shall not return to Me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” German voters move right The German elections over the weekend produced one more political shake-up for Europe.   The far left gained only four percent, while the right gained 14%, reports the Associated Press. America refused to blame Russia for invasion of Ukraine On Monday, the United States parted with European countries in an important United Nations vote.  The United States refused to blame Russia for its invasion of Ukraine in votes on three U.N. resolutions Monday which sought an end to the three-year war. The resolution, which passed 93-18, called for the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops and referred to Moscow's aggression as a violation of the United Nations Charter.  America voted with Russia and 16 other countries. J.D. Vance affirmed young men at CPAC Last Friday, Vice President J.D. Vance had a word for young men at the Conservative Political Action Conference held in National Harbor, Maryland. VANCE: He told the group that “our culture sends a message to young men that you should suppress every masculine urge.” He also spoke to the cultural zeitgeist. VANCE: “Wants to turn everybody, whether male or female, into androgynous idiots who think the same, talk the same and act the same. We actually think God made male and female for a purpose. We want you guys to thrive as young men and as young women, (applause) and we're going to help with our public policies to make it possible to do that.” Gallup: 9.3% of Americans now identify as homosexual or transgender The prevalence of homosexuality in the United States increased by 22% in just a single year.  That's according to a recent Gallup poll, revealing that now 9.3% of Americans identify on the sexually-perverted LGBTQ spectrum. That's also up from 3.5% in 2012.   Incredibly, 31% of young Gen Z women, and 12% of Gen Z men identify themselves with some form of sexual perversion that violates the laws of God. Romans 1:25-27 explains how they “worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator. … For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise, also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another.” West Virginia might allow religious exemption for vaccines West Virginia's legislature is considering a religious exemption for vaccinations applying to children attending schools in the state. The state senate voted 20-12 to approve the measure on Friday. Only seven states provide for no religious exemption on vaccinations.  How God used a one-arm woman to triumph in softball Despite the fact that Katelyn Pavey was born with only one arm, she excelled in women's softball. Conceived by parents involved in a sinful affair who became Christians, they raised her in the church. Remarkably, Katelyn became an all-state player in high school and received a full-ride to Cincinnati Christian University. Her story is told in a new movie entitled “I Can.” MovieGuide, the Christian movie review site, wrote, “'I Can' has a strong Christian, moral worldview stressing God's grace and forgiveness. … Ultimately, ‘I Can' tells an uplifting, inspiring, heartfelt story that champions God's faithfulness to help people overcome problems. The movie has many Christian elements like church and prayer. Circumstances point Katelyn to faith in God when she hits rock bottom. This comes on the heels of last year's Odysseus landing last February.
