Send us a textThink rehab is just rest and painkillers? We dig into the real toolkit—laser, PEMF, ultrasound, and shockwave—and map out exactly when each one helps, when it hinders, and how to blend them into a plan your dog actually enjoys. With Mel, an experienced canine physiotherapist, we unpack the science in plain English and keep the focus on results you can see: smoother movement, fewer flare-ups, and calmer sessions. We start with the essentials: inflammation isn't the enemy if it's moving through the proper stages, and shockwave can be a smart reset for chronic, stuck injuries. From there, we compare laser and PEMF. Laser uses light to boost circulation, reduce pain, and free up trigger points—great for tight backs, overworked shoulders, and compensations after spinal issues. PEMF works at the cellular level by helping damaged membranes repolarise, often delivering surprisingly fast relief and better range. We also cover where ultrasound shines with tendons and ligaments, and why technique, gel, and constant motion matter more than the machine's screen.Safety runs through everything. We clarify contraindications like active infection, cancer, and pregnancy; explain why class 4 lasers demand respect; and share practical fixes like shielding eyes and managing heat. Timing is the secret sauce: place electrotherapies at day's end or pair with quiet time so a pain-free, high-drive dog doesn't sprint into a setback. When used before controlled work, keep the focus on quality movement, not intensity. What ties it together is cooperative care and a strong team. We show how inviting consent leads to better outcomes, and how layering therapies with lifestyle changes, hydrotherapy, and progressive strength beats any single gadget. Expect clear takeaways you can use today: how to choose the right modality, how to time sessions around training, and how to advocate for your dog if a setting or approach doesn't feel right. If this helped you rethink your dog's recovery, tap follow, share the episode with a fellow dog person, and leave a quick review. A long-term Framingham Heart Study analysis shows that regular physical activity beginning in midlife and continuing into older age significantly lowers the risk of dementia, including Alzheimer disease, with the most active individuals experiencing roughly 40–45% risk reduction. A phase 3 trial of the first oral PCSK9 inhibitor, enlicitide, demonstrated substantial LDL-C and apoB reductions in patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia already on statins, offering a well-tolerated oral option that helps most patients reach guideline targets. Finally, a large U.S. cohort study revealed persistent under-treatment of chronic hepatitis B—especially among women and non-Asian racial groups—highlighting the need for standardized assessment and timely antiviral therapy to close these gaps.

She was the director of the renowned UTMB Academy of Master Teachers among her many other contributions and positions held through her illustrious career in academic medicine. Her decision to retire was influenced by family and the challenges posed by COVID-19. She doesn't see retirement as an endpoint but as an opportunity to pivot toward rest and other meaningful activities. It also serves as a nice way to avoid some of the workplace politics she no longer is obligated to navigate. “I'm just not interested in putting up with the politics anymore and when the politics start getting involved, I know it is time to check out,” she told us. From The Debbie Nigro Show Podcast Let's face it—we all want to keep doing the things we love. But one unexpected twist, fall, or awkward step (looking at you, pickleball!) and suddenly we're dealing with pain that lingers longer than our last relationship. On this episode of The Debbie Nigro Show, Dr. Alan Siegel, co-founder of ProClinix, brings 30+ years of insight on how to recover from injuries, manage chronic pain, and keep your body moving—without relying on surgery or medications. Here are the key takeaways anyone—anywhere—can benefit from:  Injury Prevention Starts Before You're in Pain Dr. Siegel stresses that many injuries, especially from fast-growing sports like pickleball, happen because people jump into activities without prepping their bodies. Tendons, joints, and muscles need maintenance—just like your car!  Integrated Care = Faster, Smarter Healing At ProClinix, they take a modern approach to recovery—combining chiropractic, physical therapy, acupuncture, massage therapy, and even regenerative medicine like PRP. This whole-body, drug-free strategy is gaining popularity across the U.S. for its effectiveness in treating everything from back pain to vertigo. No Script? No Problem! In many states like New York, you don't need a prescription to start physical therapy. That means you can get help right away, instead of waiting weeks or months in pain.  Yes, Balance Issues Can Be Treated! Think you just have to live with dizziness or gait problems? Think again. Dr. Siegel explains how physical therapy and specialized maneuvers can dramatically improve balance—and often offer instant relief from symptoms like vertigo.  From Young Athletes to Aging Joints—They Treat It All Whether it's your teenager's sports injury or your mom's hip pain, integrative practices like ProClinix are designed to treat the whole family, no matter the age or condition.    Where Can You Find ProClinix? If you're in the New York Metro area, you're in luck. ProClinix has 7 locations (and growing) including Armonk, Larchmont, West Harrison, Yorktown Heights, Tarrytown, Ardsley, Pleasantville—and a new clinic opening soon in Mount Kisco.   Not local? Use this episode as a wellness checklist for choosing an integrated rehab provider wherever you are!   Tune in to this podcast episode of The Debbie Nigro Show to hear Dr. Siegel's real talk about the body, the pain, and how to get back to living your life.

One of the main reasons people stop doing the activities they love is injury—especially to the lower back and knees, which are common in midlife and beyond. When most people see a doctor for these injuries, the primary focus is on pain relief, with little thought given to long-term recovery. However, if your goal is to return to—or even exceed—your previous activity levels, the approach needs to be more nuanced. In this week's podcast, we'll dive into the many options available today for healing, including biologics, surgeries, and even joint replacements, so you can keep doing what you love for life. Listen and learn: About PRP injections (and PRP + surgery) as potential treatment options The use of stem cells to support healing Timeline planning for knee injury recovery The possibilities around returning to running Links Dr Stone's Clinic ABOUT OUR GUEST Dr. Kevin R.
