We all have a passion for something. Mine is cooking and hunting. Others may be motorcycles, Golfing, hiking, fishing or really anything else that makes someone happy and fulfilled doing. One thing that is remarkable about finding ones passion is it can happen anytime in life, passions change as we age. So it's never to late to find that one thing you are absolute obsessed with. My guest today found her passion for Archery and hunting after retirement and has really taken to it. Karen is an advocate for women in the outdoors and helps with different women based events and courses teaching other women about the wonderful sport of Archery and hunting. Let me tell you...she is one hell of a shot!! I hope you all enjoy this conversation as much as I did. Don't forget to follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Youtube for more content. Cheers!
As a society we have lost touch with our food. When I say that I mean we have lost touch with the understanding of were our food comes from and what really goes into putting meat and vegetables on your plate. We have stopped putting in the hard work required to raise, hunt, and grow our own food. We have stopped showing our children the true meaning of the food chain and circle of life. A lot of children don't even know how hamburgers are made. In today's episode we talk about kids in the kitchen, lessons learned from the kitchen and how to raise unpicky eaters. Make sure to sign up for our membership at www.sizzlinarrow.com and follow us on instagram. Enjoy!
There is something special about being able to harvest, grow and forage your own food. Mother Nature has so many beneficial products to offer if you just know what you are looking for. My guest today has really adopted the outdoor lifestyle and tries to utilize Mother Natures gifts as much as she can. Safiyyah is an avid outdoors woman, hunter, fisher and forager. She talks about her journey into the outdoor lifestyle and the benefits of self harvested meat, natural plants and other topics. This is a great conversation. Check it out. As a parent - one of our biggest responsibilities is insuring our children are safe.Unfortunately, we can not always be with our children to protect them. So, we need to make sure they are raised properly and understand how to avoid dangerous situations if at all possible. We also need to make sure they know the difference between right and wrong. That way they don't put them selves or others in danger. In todays episode we discuss the growing trend in our community of children taking guns to school, our opinions of how to avoid this, what to do at home, and other topics as well. This is a touchy subject for a lot of us and I know that my opinions are not going to resinate with some and that's okay. I hope you enjoy the episode and find our opinions helpful or insightful.
Being able to make something out of nothing is a valuable and impressive skill to have. Especially when that skill is making a useful tool (such as a knife) out of hard steal. Blade smithing has been around for many, many years and it is an amazing craft. With the type of work I do knifes play a very important role in my day to day operations and I have grown to really appreciate the craftsmanship and detail that goes into high end knives. My guest today has mastered this craft and has made some really stunning knives over the years. Martin Seck owner of Panda Bear Forge is a local North Carolina blade smith who has taken his skills to Forged in Fire during season 8 of the show. During our conversation we discuss blade smithing, Forged in Fire, martial arts, bow making and much more. I know you are going to enjoy this conversation just as much as I did.Make sure to check Martin out and follow him at: Forged in Fire Season 8 Episode 21 ( Fire and Water) on Netflixhttps://pandabearforge.com/https://www.instagram.com/pandabearforge/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClZYxNn7bq9v9R_CRJJb_Mghttps://www.facebook.com/pandabearforge
We all do it! We are all guilty! We all talk down to ourselves and put ourselves in a less than favolable mental position from time to time. This negative talk can push us forward, but it can also drag us down into the mud if we let it. That is what happened to me this year and man it sucks. In this conversation, we talk about how negative talk hinders your performance, why it is important to know when to call it quits and the power of flexibility. I hope you all enjoy the conversation and hope this helps some new hunters out there. Lastly here are a few affiliate links, in case you are looking for a new firearm. I have been asked several times " Why do I hunt Coyotes?' another question I get that usually follows the first one is "Do you eat them?" Well...I do not eat them for a couple different reasons, but primarily because they are wild dogs - flea infested dogs. To be honest, I think it's more mental than anything but that's besides the point. There are times that we hunt for other reasons besides food. Predator control is one of those reasons. Today's episode goes over some of the reasons why we should hunt coyotes and why it's important to manage them properly. I hope you enjoy this episode and hopefully this will give a little more insight to why coyotes should be hunted and managed. Enjoy!! https://abc13.com/2-year-old-attacked-by-coyote-attacks-child-in-dallas-critical-condition-wild-animals/11817443/https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-04-29/coyote-attacks-seriously-injures-girl-in-huntington-beachhttps://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/coyote-attacks-calgary-1.6082501
God works in mysteries ways! He provides us with so much and it is up to us to see this and follow the path intended for us. My guests today share this belief with me and we talk about how they were shown the way by Gods light and wisely chose to follow it and for good reason. This episode, I sit down with Travis and Christine Tankersley from Sweet T Farms and talk about how they got started, what they do, how they do it, family, and much more. Hunting is so much more than harvesting an animal. Most hunters hunt for the experience, the challenge, the meat, quality time with family and friends and becoming closer to nature. Todays episode I sit down with Jason Thornton of Edible Outdoors Cook and talk about those aspects of hunting. We also discuss tactics for preparing for turkey season, Jason shares his most memorable turkey hunting experience and then some. This is an awesome conversation and you are not going to want to miss it. As a chef I demand the best equipment I can get. At least the best I can afford. Kitchen equipment is no different than hunting equipment, fishing equipment, or any other hobby or sport you may be into. Quality comes with a higher price tag up front but those items will last you for years, if not forever. Which actually saves you money in the long run. In this episode I go over what I think are the most necessary pieces of equipment cooks need in their kitchen. Everything from Knives to plastic wrap. Enjoy.
As a hunter I crave the challenge of chasing wild game. I look forward to spending time outdoors and soaking up Gods magnificent beauty. I also look forward to having fresh meat for my family's table. Meat that I can be proud of and know that it's safe for my family to eat. Today's conversation I sit down with Nick Otto founder of the Huntavore podcast. Nick is a fellow outdoorsman from Michigan who shares the same passions that I do for the outdoors and for food. This is a great conversation that covers a lot more than just shooting and cooking. Give it a listen.Make sure to check out Nick's podcast and recipes at the links below. https://sportsmensnation.comhttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-huntavore-sportsmens-nation/id1403496684
Today I discuss something that has been bothering me. I read an article about the New York City school district making a Vegan only lunch on Fridays. Why in the hell are they doing this to kids? Well... the true reason we may never know, but this is something that should not be happening and parents should be outraged over. Leave these type of decisions to the parents. The schools/county should not be making these type of decisions for our children. Give the episode a listen and read the article and let me know what your thoughts are? I hope you enjoy my rant and thank you for listening. https://abc7ny.com/new-york-city-vegan-fridays-nyc-schools-school-lunches/11538881/Cheers, Paul Rhoades

Today's episode I talk about the amazing experience I had with a first time archery hunter Jim. Jim had purchased a bow in March of 2021 with the intent to hunt. Jim wanted to provide fresh, clean meat for his family and he was determined to make this year a succesful one.I actually met Jim's wife at my booth during the Fest in the West Festival in October. She mentioned that her husband had just started hunting and would love to go on a guided hunt. So after giving her my contact information Jim had contacted me via phone and we set up the first hunt. Unfortunately, the 1st hunt didn't go as planed and we left empty-handed. Well, that's hunting. We scheduled a second hunt and...... you are just going to have to listen to the episode to find out how that went! Enjoy!
Today's episode I had the pleasure of sitting down with Tommy Serafinski, founder of Tommy's Outdoors podcast. It was truly a pleaser to speak with Tommy and get to know more about hunting in Ireland. This conversation dips into a wide range of topics from having meaningful and respectful conversations with non-hunters, benefits of harvesting your own food, hunting regulations in Ireland and more. As a hunter, only one thing is more enjoyable to me than actually hunting game and that is eating it. Wild game is some of the healthiest, cleanest and tastiest meat available. We are truly blessed to be able to go out and harvest such magnificent creatures. With that being said, knowing how to properly cook this delicacy is crucial. So, todays episode I sit down with Jeff Benda from Wildgameandfish.com to discuss wild game cooking and get his perspective on the outdoors, hunting and cooking. Check it out and make sure to visit www.wildgameandfish.com and sign up for Jeff's news letters and try out some of his recipes.https://wildgameandfish.comAlso, if you want to take part in the field to table experience raffle which ends December 4th at 9pm. Todays episode I go over 10 benefits of doing things yourself. When it comes to growing, butchering, harvesting and a lot of the times cooking our food, we depend on others to do this for us. Whether that is buying produce and meat from the grocery store, ordering takeout or eating at your favorite restaurant, we are depending on others to provide these services to us. Those are luxuries that we expect. As a society we have become totally dependent in a way. For me personally, I like the feeling of knowing that I have produced the meat, vegetables or dinner for my family. It provides a certain element of pride knowing I did things myself and was able to produce successful results. If more of us start stepping into the "do it myself" mentality and the work hard mindset we will all be better off physically, mentally and spiritually. If nothing else, it will increase the respect we have for the food we consume, which is very important.Enjoy!!
Conservation is one thing that everyone has heard of and if you take part in any outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, archery, and target shooting you have contributed to conservation in more than one way. Even though these sports are not the only way conservation is funded they provide some of the largest financial contributions towards conservation year after year.My guest today is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to conservations, hunting and the outdoors. In this episode I sit down with Jason Crighton from Conserve the Wild and we discuss conservation, hunting and the benefits they both provide. Make sure to check Jason out at the links below- Enjoy the conversation!! https://www.conservewild.org/about_ushttps://www.facebook.com/Conserve-the-Wild-112392850456461/https://twitter.com/conserve_wild?lang=enhttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/conservation-unfiltered/id1455502471
Todays episode we discuss 8 ways to be an ethical hunter. There is a big misconception about hunters and what our actual intentions are. As ethical hunters it is our job to educate the general public on what it is we really do. We hold on to tradition, we teach our children not to take the food we eat for granted, we provide fresh healthy meat to our families, neighbors and community, we provide billions of dollars to conservation, and the list goes on.If you are new to hunting or are curious about what ethical hunters are really about, give this episode a listen. If you have been hunting for a while or all your life, let me know if I missed anything in the comments. If you are looking for better ways to prepare your harvests or want to learn how to hunt and fish check us out at www.sizzlinarrow.com and read up on the blogs, sign up for the membership, and of course send me an email with questions. Happy hunting and good eating!!
Today's episode I sit down with Richard von Furstenberg of NC State University and talk about their Academics Afield program. This program is designed to introduce new hunters to the sport by helping college age students find their path as a new hunter. We talk about hunter decline, conservation, the new face of hunting and much much more. We as hunters need to do more to introduce new hunters to the sport so it will stay alive, not just for our tradition, but for conservation as well. It is up to us to show the younger generation why it is important and why it matters. If you would like to help contribute to the cause and help keep our tradition alive, please reach out to Rich, Breanna, or myself at the contacts below. There are approximately 30,000 cases of Lyme disease reported every year in the United States. Now, that is only one of the 18 diseases that ticks can spread. This is why we need to protect ourselves from them every time we go into the woods. In the USA we throw away approximately 31% of our entire food production every year. That's 133 billion pounds and $161 billion worth of food according to the FDA's research in 2010. I am sure that number has increased over the years. We all can do our part in decreasing this number on a weekly if not daily bases. Give this a listen and hear a few ways we can contribute at home. Enjoy!! https://www.fda.gov/food/consumers/food-loss-and-wastehttps://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/327325#make-a-weekly-menu
Today we sit down with my friend Carson Koury owner of Buttermilk Creek Outfitters and host of The Final Draw hunting show. I started going to Carson's shop back in 2009 when another Archery Shop messed up my bow. I was pretty desperate to get the thing shooting again because the season was just a few weeks away. I remember walking into the shop all pissed off because of what the other shop had done to my bow and after talking with the guys at Buttermilk creek I was assured they would get things back to normal. It took about an hour but after that the bow was shooting as it should and I have been going back ever since. Their customer service, prices, and combined knowledge around archery and archery hunting surpasses other shops that I have visited. So if you need archery equipment or need to have your equipment tuned up go see Carson and his team at Buttermilk Creek Outfitters. With all that being said Carson and I discuss the shop, the tv show, hunting, wild game vs store bought meat and more. I know you are going to enjoy this conversation. Thanks for listening. This should be a fun one- today we discuss the petition taking place in the wonderful state of Oregon. This petition is called the IP13 and from my understanding would outlaw hunting, fishing, traditional and necessary farming practices, pest control and other asinine provisions. With the unlikely outcome of this proposal actually making it's way to becoming law. We still need to take this type of action serious and not stay silent. Now is the time to show the world that hunters, farmers, ranchers and fishermen are not the bad guys. We stand for morality, conservation, ethics and clean food. Below are the links to the website proposing this IP13 along with the Youtube video talking about the petition. https://www.yesonip13.orghttps://www.yesonip13.org/about - this link has the Q&A you should read the full part about the hunting and fishing and the question about if (Ranchers can still raise cattle?). https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?v=241173314118699&ref=watch_permalink ( I suffered through this whole thing which I encourage you to watch the whole thing too- not for the sake of watching but to see what they are trying to accomplish. I found the spot from 2min-5min and 42min-44min concerning. Thanks for listening!
Year after year, all hunters look forward to the opening day of hunting season. We contemplate and dream of that big buck making the wrong move. One thing that doesn't get talked about a lot is the preparation needed to be prepared for such an event. Today, I talk about the 8 things that I do and recommend doing to prepare yourself for archery season. These can be done to prepare for rifle season as well. Enjoy. Check us out at www.sizzlinarrow.com
Long range competitive shooting is not the same as long range hunting. Even though we can hit a target at 1000 yards, we will not take a shot at an animal at those distances. Some do, but ethical hunters know that too much can go wrong at extreme distances. The last thing we want to do is wound an animal, because we failed to do our job as a hunter and close the distance. Nicholas Roadifer and I discuss this topic along with hunting, long range shooting, and other great topics during the interview. Enjoy!! ALSO.....If you are in the market for a new rifle make sure you reach out to my friend Nick at Widowmier Precision Rifles and add one of his awesome rifles to your collection.https://www.facebook.com/WPRCUSTOM/Nicolas Roadifer(307) 763-0308widowmier@yahoo.com
Being sustainable does not end at the farm. It must transfer into the household and our everyday life. If we make an effort to eat more sustainable, such as eating our leftovers, supporting our local farmers and utilize items we usually throw away, we will find that our community will grow, food waste will go down, our bank accounts will have more money and we will ultimately be healthier as well. Enjoy, the episode and make sure to check out www.sizzlinarrow.com. Thank you!

Today we discuss the misconceptions of poaching being a form of hunting. Too often I hear people complain and comment about poaching issues and compare these practices and people to hunting and hunters. Poaching is not Hunting. We need to stop putting hunters and poachers in the same category and start calling poaching for what it is and that is a criminal activity. https://www.americanhunter.org/articles/2019/11/7/african-game-meat-what-happens-after-the-shot/https://www.unodc.org/documents/data-and-analysis/wildlife/2020/World_Wildlife_Report_2020_9July.pdfhttps://globalconservation.org/news/250-billion-market-illegal-wildlife-logging-and-mining-destroyin/
