This week the boyz are joined by Kasey Clark and Keith Carey for a chat about Growing Up Is Dumb, a music festival thrown by Lauren Records. They give a recap of the bands and also try to explain why this festival was neat. It's hard to explain here, give it a listen. They do an okay job. Plus, we open with a spirited conversation about the modern state of JRPGs and the recently announced “Switch 2”... In episode 24, Kasey Clark, a therapist, leadership coach, and co-host of the “Soulstirred” podcast, delves into her personal and professional evolution, shedding light on how the roles we accept and the identities we reject shape our understanding of ourselves. She shares her early life challenges, including her unintended impact on her parent's troubled marriage, and how these experiences steered her away from traditional career paths toward ones centered on growth and personal freedom.Throughout the episode, Kasey emphasizes the significance of embracing life's processes rather than its outcomes, advocating for a journey of continuous self-discovery and adjustment. The discussion explores the concept of “knowing who we aren't” as a profound approach to self-identity and discusses the intricate balance between personal needs and external expectations. This conversation is a masterclass in vulnerability, illustrating how personal narratives intersect with professional pursuits to foster a richer, more authentic life. The episode is a compelling exploration of how personal history and professional experiences intertwine to guide our life choices, urging listeners to reflect on their own paths and the roles they choose to accept or reject.Guest Information:Connect with Kasey Clark on Linkedin: www.linkedin.com/in/kaseyclarkcoachOr Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kasey_soulstirredpodcast/References:Soulstirred: Stories of Growth and the Human Experience - podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/soulstirred-stories-of-growth-and-the-human-experience/id1725046002Enneagram: https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/type-descriptions/Coactive Training Institute: https://coactive.com/“Dare to Lead” by Brené Brown: https://brenebrown.com/hubs/dare-to-lead/Don't forget to subscribe and leave a review if you enjoyed this episode.Credits and Acknowledgements:Hosted, Produced, and Edited by Heather Pridemore. https://www.linkedin.com/in/heather-pridemore-mba/Thank you for tuning into small acts of rebellion. It finally happened and what better episode than our first Summer of Rad! Kyle and Matthew are back together live and in person. But, it doesn't just stop there! They are joined by Brandie Posey, Keith Carey, and Kasey Clark to pitch their Fantasy Summer Camps.... Then it turns out only Kyle, Kasey, and Brandie did them. There are some hilarious tangents (and more talk of F9, I swear, we've just about got it out of our system!). Joining us for this episode is Kasey Clark who recently completed a ride in Loudoun county VA totaling 284 miles with 25k elevationin just 23 hours -- on gravel. A cyclist and organic farmer Kasey rode Loudoun County, Virginia’s gravel roads in an effort to promote and protect them as a fundraiser for America’s Routes. Want to help preserve some gravel roads? Here's your chance: https://americasroutes.com/events/ to donate a dollar, or $5, or maybe even $500. Plus we also have ride reports from the very rainy 1725 gravel grinder from Nadine, Larry and Ted. I’m excited to hear these since I was not able to make the trip.
Season 1: Episodes 14, 15, and 16This is a very good, very calm post election day special! We stay on topic and are very very serious!

During last year's Summer of Rad we had Brandie Posey, Keith Carey, and Kasey Clark come over to Kyle's backyard so that everybody could pitch their dream music festival. It was a lot of fun and we decided that we should do something similar next year. Then Brandie proposed a fantasy cruise. We set a date and Keith set the wrong date and couldn't make it. Also, Laura was sick. But the REST of the crew returned to bring you a follow up to last years episode. Who is creating a fantasy cruise as an alibi for murder at sea? Are pirate ghosts something you'd want on your cruise? Also, the Los Angeles Clippers look like they have a pretty good season ahead of them. We had a lot of fun and we'd love to know what YOUR fantasy cruise would be so tweet at us @thisisradpod with your pitch! Okay, after almost six years of podcasting every week, it finally happened... We got so deep into a conversation that the idea originally conceived (comics) got a little lost in the shuffle. Don't get me wrong, we DO talk about comics, for like a few minutes... and then... well, it's a really fun episode! Our guest Pablo Escobosa is a very sharp, funny, and talented dude and you won't walk away disappointed. If you like riffs, consider this an all riffs episode. If you like topics, next week's episode we are back to our regularly scheduled format. For this week, find a comfy spot on the couch and come hang out with Kyle, Matthew, and Pablo as they go on a journey. Weekly Rads: (with special guest Kasey Clark, who was playing Kingdom Hearts 3 for a portion of this intro...) Kasey – Roundball Rock (comedy basketball podcast) Kyle – The Worst It's Ever Been by Groundhog Day (album) Check out our merch! https://www.teepublic.com/stores/this-is-rad Also! Double the guests, double feet to cut loose. We travel back to the magical time of 1984 to bring dancing back to Bomont and talk about Footloose!
This week Kyle and Matthew sit down with comedians Christine Little and Leah Lamarr for a delightful chat about self help. Kyle has spent the better part of this year immersed in the world of self help and recently started working with Christine on a new podcast called “A Little Advice” in which she uses her BA in psychology to give other comedians life advice. Leah was her first guest and after they recorded that episode, she stuck around. Here's a fun thing you'll find in this episode, Kyle and Leah (who'd never met before this episode) learn that they have the same terrifying laugh. For real, you'll hear it in this episode and it's pretty haunting. The gang discuss The Artist Way, a creative recovery program that Kyle, Christine, and Leah all participate in. They also discuss relationship advice books and make a few recommendations for books that have been helpful to them. This episode stats real silly but also gets pretty intense by the end. Thrill as Christine and Matthew break down his relationship (spoiler alert: he loves Laura). Marvel as everybody shares about their experiences trying to get out from the darkness that can sometimes cloud your head. This episode hardly scratches the surface of the world of self help but if you're thinking that you might want to explore some of this yourself, this isn't a bad place to start. Sports narrative! This week Kyle sits down with his brother Kasey Clark to chat about ESPN's amazing 30 for 30 documentary series. Kasey explains the strange way he became a fan of the LA Clippers back when he was in high school (it involves Boys II Men). Kyle explains how Kasey tricked him into understanding sports and the narratives that make it engaging through this series of documentaries. They share highlights from the series and draw a lot of parallels between 30 for 30 and comic book storytelling. Look, we know sports episodes don't do well but this is a really fun episode and you should give it a chance. Hey good lookin'! Whatcha got cookin'? The Summer of Rad rages on in Kyle's backyard with a podcast cookout crossover extravaganza! The rad gang is joined by "The Goods from the Woods" own Rivers Langley and Mr. Goodnight and "What Did You Learn?"'s Monika Scott and Luke Jensen. Also, Kasey Clark and Jarrod Gilbreath are along for the ride! Rivers deep fries a whole mess of delicious food for everyone and shocks no one by knowing the entire history of Chick-Fil-A. (While working there, he found out their secret ingredient and now incorporates it into his own insanely good fried chicken recipe.) Monika spices things up with some hot links and cornbread, Luke sizzles up some steak fingers, Burnside bakes up some cheesy potatoes, Mr. Goodnight's all about that Milo's sweet tea and both Natalie and Kyle... forgot to make anything. It's a super fun summer episode you'll cherish forever! Weekly Rads: Turtles Forever, Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling trailer
Ommmm... This week Kyle, Matthew and Natalie sit down and stretch out with comedian Dana Moon to discuss the meditative art of yoga! Dana talks about doing hot yoga next to Colin Farrell and Drew Barrymore. Kyle talks about his heady days finding inner peace with Wii Fit Yoga. Matt talks about doing yoga video tapes in Cleveland. Plus, Natalie talks about recently getting into yoga at her gym (and being jealous Dana can do crow pose). Everybody is disturbingly on topic this episode. But don't worry, because the gang also discusses the ideal way to eat Pop-Tarts, math, psychedelic drugs, and Nat exposes that Kyle went through a "sea shanty" phase (to the surprise of no one). You can feel the rad is risin', baby...This week Kyle, Matthew and Producer Natalie celebrate Kyle's birthday by recording an audio commentary for John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China. Carpenter expert and previous podcast guest Kasey Clark sits in with the gang, and there is a special drop-in from Kyle and Kasey's dad, Greg Clark. Natalie and Matthew don't get the movie's appeal but Kyle and Kasey love this childhood VHS staple starring the rugged, sandwich-chewing Jack Burton (Kurt Russell) and a pre-Sex and the City Kim Cattrall, not to mention Wang Chi, David Lo Pan, Egg Shen and the spirits Thunder, Rain and Lightning. It's a neon-filled romp with a theme song that's catchy as hell. Join us for a ride on the Pork-Chop Express! Weekly Rads: Making a Murderer, The Goon by Eric Powell, the band Culture Abuse Raddendums: Key & Peele's Gremlins 2 sketch, Bus Driver Stu from Pete & Pete, Man Man, Coup De Villes' Big Trouble in Little China music video
Merry Clashmas! This week Kyle and Matthew "rad" the Casbah with returning guests Chris Estrada and Kasey Clark. They give a brief history of the The Clash, followed by an album-by-album breakdown of the band's best (and worst) songs, their musical evolution and their ideology. They explore the band's politics and how much the band was a product of their time - for better and for worst. They also yell a lot because Kyle, Kasey and Chris are all insane Clash fans. If you are new to the band, this is a great primer. If you love The Clash, listen and yell and scream at us about what you do and don't agree with. They also discuss the post-Clash works of the various members and give some records to check out if you feel like expanding into the outer Clash-iverse. This holiday season, give someone in your life the gift of The Clash and drown out all that awful Christmas music with "London Calling."Weekly Rads: Tweet a real band name or a fake band name to @ThisIsRadPod and have Natalie guess what it is! Cue the spooky synth music! This week Kyle and Matthew sit down with musician Kasey Clark and comedian Andy Sell to talk about the films of director John Carpenter. In the third installment of their "Rad Directors" series, they go through Carpenter's complete filmography - with a few deviations along the way. They talk about their fond memories of Big Trouble in Little China (which they can quote almost entirely from memory), that time Andy got to meet J.C. in the flesh, and Kasey shows off his sweet "They Live" tattoo. Check out Tidemouth's new album Velvet and Stone and Andy's web series "Andy Talks to Bands" and web comic "Kyle and Grandpa Forever"! Weekly Rads: What you guys are radful for! This week Kyle and Matthew are celebrating the Summer of Rad by sharing music festival memories with comedian Rivers Langley and musician Kasey Clark. And oh, the memories they have! That time at FYF when Matthew maced himself in the face and Kyle destroyed his foot on a bottle - oh, and all that rad music too! They talk about Bonnaroo, Beach Goth, Coachella, Vegoose and the Lollapalooza that never was. They also discuss Rivers' friend Jingles, the Tupac hologram, night bacon and pocket meat, the amazingness of Bruce Springsteen, being "DTF," double-headed dildos, and best of all, Rivers reads excerpts from his younger self's snarky Bonnaroo blog. Check out Rivers' show Yellahammered and Kasey's bands Dogs and Tidemouth! Weekly Rads: Kwik-E-Mart LEGO set, "Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp" on Netflix Raddendums: "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", At the Drive-In, Cypress Hill, Matisyahu, M.I.A., Wolf Mother, The Flaming Lips, the Waverly "Old 280" Boogie, Jason Isbell, "Erykah Badu was huge for Jingles"
Live from Meltdown Comics, it's "This Is Rad!" Kyle and Matthew sit down with comedian Joe Raines and Producer Natalie to attempt to scratch the surface of this long-running comedy juggernaut. Joe has seen every episode of SNL and enlightens Kyle on the appeal. From 1975 to the present, they break down underrated cast members, the best casts and years, as well as the seasons Joe needed a lot of weed to get through. They also take a brief detour to talk about their own sketch comedy show Camp NerdMelt - with a special appearance from "Mr. Gribbles." Big thanks to Kasey Clark for being our Don Pardo!
