Want to connect? Here are 3 ways to connect with me or other adventure families through Ordinary Sherpa: For a quick 1:1 with Heidi buy me a coffee For a cohort adventure challenge: https://ordinarysherpa.com/challenge In a community of other adventure families: https://ordinarysherpa.com/arena Website for this episode: https://ordinarysherpa.com/061 I was first exposed to the Jetsetting Family through their podcast when I was looking for inspiration from families who travel. Through their podcast episodes and Instagram feed I felt like I was on so many of the travels with them and they opened up my world to places I hadn't heard of or were not in my zone of awareness. Jessica is a photographer and social media content creator for The Jetsetting Family. Three years ago, she sold most of her stuff and took her family on a full-time adventure around the world. In two years, she visited more than 40 countries with her husband and two young children, working with dozens of brands in the travel and hospitality industry. She now calls Florida home, and is always ready for the next big adventure! Key Takeaways They bought a home that ended up being exhausting. It felt like “we were always saving for the next repair.” They were spending so much time and money on things that weren't important to their family. One of the items they wanted to prioritize was travel. When single, young and had all the energy in the world she liked fast travel. But with 2 young kids, fast travel was exhausting. The transition from vacation mindset to lifestyle mindset is a learning curve. After 9 months the settled into a routine of having 2 down days and work days built. You can only travel as long as your budget allows. They planned to travel for 6 months, thanks to Instagram following they were given discounted free stays reducing their expenses. Then expanded to tours and eventually at the end of their 2 years of full-time travel had secured substantial paid contracts. “If you are going to travel full-time you have to learn to take everything as it comes. The reality of travel is there are beautiful moments and there are really hard moments.” “Yes kids might not remember the travels, but seeing how they adapt, the funny questions they ask along the way, and how it becomes so normal to them is really a beautiful experience” (9:09) Cruises are great taste test of where you want to go, but don't allow you to go deep. Transitioning home she is reminded of how much more exhausting it is to travel from a home base than to travel full-time. When you are traveling full-time you aren't thinking about what to pack because everything you own is with you. It costs a lot to travel and own a home. I think people see full-time travel families as families who are really wealthy, or have some secret to life. The reality is you are substituting living expenses instead of paying car ownership expenses you are paying for a flight, instead of rent or mortgage you pay for lodging. Being at home it feels like we have our own independent lives, we spent much more time together while traveling. After a year of travel, anytime they were at a location 1 month or longer they would enroll in local schools or activities where they would have daily exposure to other kids. Families interested in exploring full time travel might want to explore Instagram. Many families are passionate about the lifestyle and want to make it accessible. Send them a DM and ask your questions, chances are they have content or insights to share. For every bucket list place you go, you end up adding 2 more. You meet people and they offer gems or suggestions. Lessons learned from fulltime travel: https://www.thejetsettingfamily.com/lessons/ Pros and Cons of travel vs. being home. Zen Ore, a.k.a. “that pricing guy”, is a respected consultant who helped business across Australia, UK, USA, and Israel. Zen’s background is in procurement, negotiations, and deal structure, which gave him quite the reputation with pricing teams he opposed in negotiations. After years in operations management roles, he specialized in analytics and BI, leveraging his statistics-rich engineering degree. Zen constantly volunteers to support small business and young entrepreneurs. In this episode, Zen shares how pricing is not about how much you invested now but the value you deliver. He also highlights that pricing is not something you do at the end just before the product launch; it’s something you do even before you design a product. He touched on Wine Pricing and what influences buyers’ purchasing decisions with spirit products. He made mention on the psychology of pricing in this regard. Other than that, he gives his thoughts on how pricing works in the petrol industry; the pricing metrics used to gauge buyers’ willingness to pay. [powerpress] Why you have to check out today’s podcast: Learn about wine pricing and how its price is a strong indicator of the product’s quality and influences the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of buyers’ purchasing decisions Find out how petrol pricing works where an increase or decrease in the world’s oil price movement is concerned Find out why ‘pricing is a thing’ in your business “Making sure your initial pricing doesn't damage your brand and addresses more than one market segment. I think that's the most common mistake I see with small businesses.” - Zen Ore Increase Your Pricing Knowledge: Become a Champions of Value INSIDER! It's not something you do at the end, occasionally, five minutes before you launch into the market. It's something you have to think about way before you even start designing your service or product.” - Zen Ore “There's a lot of costing involved because that's a factory, making wine is the factory, but the way pricing works, I think even without calling it by that name, it's more psychological than one might think.” - Zen Ore “We started playing with the metrics [petrol pricing], and we realized that yes, sometimes you can raise the price. As long as you raise another metric or another value driver, they will keep buying and you will maintain the same volume with the higher price. And I think that's the business you want to have.” - Zen Ore “[On his website’s pro bono tab] It's me, showing that I believe in what I do, and I believe in what I understand about how people pay. You can pay as much as you want. And I'm not going to criticize you for this. And experience shows that's actually not a bad financial decision on my end as well.” - Zen Ore “Once you get accustomed to that kind of strategic thinking, it's in your mental toolbox. And I think it's the same with your courses. So, it doesn't matter if you're pricing petrol or you're pricing fast-moving consumer goods or anything. You understand the mental toolkit for pricing. And I think that's priceless.” - Zen Ore Connect with Zen Ore: pricingisathing.com LinkedIn Connect with Mark Stiving: Email: mark@impactpricing.com LinkedIn

In this episode, I talk about the truth behind how top earners succeed in network marketing. Instead of doing home parties and talking to their family & friends, the people who have grown their business quickly have their own products on the "front end" of their business. They don't talk about their downline until someone buys from them. The way you bring somebody into your downline, the way you sell somebody, often determines what they do afterwards. That’s true for any business, any product, any sale ever. So if one begs somebody into the downline, chances are they would beg them to do something afterwards. This is what I found out - If I begged them to come and buy the product, I would beg them to go and continue to buy the product. If I wanted to stop that, I needed to stop begging people after they buy to continue to do things. I had to stop begging them to join or buy in the first place. And that changed everything for me. And I started sitting down, I started realizing: “Wait a second, how are these guys actually recruiting?” Which ultimately brought me to the question: “Wait a second, what are the top earners actually doing to recruit? What are they doing to actually sell the product?” I started looking around, and I freaked out. Almost none of them were doing home meetings, phone meetings, hotel meetings, going to malls. Almost none of them were doing that. Instead of saying: “Come, join my downline,” they're saying: “Hey, check out this cool little book I wrote.” Not that you need to go write a book, but that's the principle. Stay tuned to know more. Key Takeaways: They have small little products that they send people to (4:09) Want to change your business? We all agree that one of the nicest parts about being an established photographer with a (fairly) steady income, is that we can turn away shoots if we feel the need to. Of course we want to make as much money as possible, but sometimes it's better to trust your gut and just say no! We were inspired to record this episode after reading an article posted on Honeybook by Chrissie Arpie titled "4 Reasons to Say No to a Client." In this episode, we'll chat about this article and explore a few other reasons to turn clients away! Key Takeaways: They disrespect your time: Ashley dives into this a bit.. she's recently had two clients who haven't replied to her in a timely manner and who let their contracts expire. This put a bad taste in her mouth & she ended up telling the client she doesn't think they'll be a great fit. Our time is valuable and we can't waste it on clients who aren't going to appreciate it! Budget issues: Nobody likes getting those emails where clients are asking for a discount. Sometimes it's a special situation where we offer a military, teacher, or other type of discount in which case we're totally okay with it. But sometimes a client approaches us and can't afford us. Don't be afraid to turn a client down for this reason! It can be tough to do, but we charge what we charge for a reason & it's important to stick to your guns! Lack of expertise in an area: Sometimes it's okay to push your boundaries and step out of your comfort zone, but other times we can tell that a shoot is just not what we specialize in. Don't be afraid to refer a client out to another photographer you think will do a better job. This just causes unnecessary stress & pressure! Overwhelming workload: There are definitely times of year where photographers are overwhelmed by the amount of shoots, editing, etc that they're dealing with! Instead of stressing yourself out (and risking taking on more than you can handle!), don't be afraid to turn clients away, or push them toward another time of year. If you can hire an associate photographer, that's AWESOME! But otherwise, don't overwhelm yourself... every other aspect of your business (and personal life!) will suffer. You don't want to do it: Every now and then you'll get a shoot inquiry that you JUST don't want to do. Maybe it's a day you had something else planned, maybe it's a gigantic family shoot that seems overwhelming, or maybe you just get a weird feeling from their email or phone call. At the end of the day, you can run your business however you want to. Do you want to fill your summer with shoots that churn your stomach with anxiety beforehand or do you want to fill your schedule with shoots that make you excited and happy to be a photographer? It's completely up to you & don't be afraid to turn clients away if you have a bad feeling about the shoot! Related Links: 4 Reasons to Say No to a Client Chrissie Arpi's Blog Honeybook
