We told you we were back, and we meant it. So let's continue... this week's guest is A & R extraordinaire, M-Eighty. If you don't know who he is, then you were never inside the house reading those liner notes, and you should have your Hip Hop card revoked or defaced at the very least. You can see M-Eighty's name in the credits of some of the biggest and best indie Hip Hop records post-2000, and we talked to him about putting albums together and more. M-Eighty gave us his thoughts on a new Wu-Tang album, an update about 'Hiest of the Century 2' by La The Darkman, and even getting into a fight with Killah Priest. Tap in... Gun Rule....we are back in the mix with an unsung hero of the Wu-Tang dynasty...none other than LA The Darkman. We got Gabe Pacheco(@gabe_pacheco ) with the assist to unpack all of the jewels of this amazing album. So come get a piece of this hidden chamber of rap!
We're so consistent right now that we're doing part 2s to episodes. After the weight of the race issues and the nostalgia of reminiscing of part 1 of episode 4, we get a little lighter by getting into Kool Keith's "Sex Styles" album and "Total Orgasm" mixtape series, Necro and horrorcore & pornocore sub-genres in Hip-Hop, and reinventing your identity in Hip-Hop al la MF Doom (aka Zev Love X from KMD), Gnarls Barkley(Cee-Lo Green and Dangermouse), etc. From there we get into what artists with a diverse catalog decide to perform and some of Nas' song selections for his albums, especially his mega-controversial N-Word album. We get into the evolution of how music is released in the digital age, our uncle's Hip-Hop preferences (including LL Cool J's Headsprung...still can't figure out what that song was about). We also speculate on snoring coke from mirrors, and we have banter about various rappers and Hip-Hop related things including Jay Electronica, Cormega, Wu-Tang, DJ Mathematics, La The Darkman, AZ, Black Milk, Elzhi, J.Cole, Slum Village, Madlib, J Dilla, the importance of featuring on another artists track, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, rappers finding religion, Nelly shooting up blocks and doing meth (and his career accomplishments as well), stories regarding Pimp Juice, Crunk Juice, & 4 Loko, the lady accused of sleeping with the entire Wu-Tang Clan, seeing people you grew up listening to (like Saigon & Peter Gunz) on Love and Hip-Hop & other reality TV, and the structure of Hip-Hop groups though history such as X-Clan, Public Enemy, and Little Brother. Definitely an insightful and entertaining conversation, listen, subscribe, and comment!
