Solomon continues the personification of wisdom as a woman and contrasts her with Lady Folly. Wisdom is portrayed as having built her house, prepared a feast, and sent out her servants to invite people to partake of her rich offerings, symbolizing an invitation to learn and live by her prudent ways. In stark contrast, Folly is described as loud, seductive, and lacking in wisdom, sitting at the door of her house to lure those who pass by into her deceptive embrace, leading them to death and the depths of the grave. The Rev. David Boisclair, pastor of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Overland, MO, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Proverbs 9. Step into the spiritually rich landscape of the Book of Proverbs, a text divinely inspired and attributed to Solomon, the sage king endowed by God with unsurpassed wisdom. This ancient scripture begins with heartfelt lessons from a father to a son, laying a foundation of moral and ethical guidance before unfolding into a collection of timeless proverbs. It uniquely personifies wisdom and folly as two paths that stand before humanity, offering a choice between a life filled with virtue, fear of the Lord, and understanding, and one marred by shortsighted pleasures and foolishness. Proverbs serves as a compass for those seeking to walk in righteousness, offering insights that resonate deeply with the human experience, guiding us toward a life of purpose and discernment according to God's will.
Did you know that discerning the Great Prostitute of Revelation 17-18 is perhaps more important for the church today than understanding the Beast and the Mark of the Beast? In this episode, Rob and Vinnie look at John's description of the Great Prostitute in Rev 17-18. More importantly, they ask: "Who/what is the Great Prostitute today?" Their answer is revealing. The book of Proverbs is nothing less than a collection of timeless truisms and wisdom for life, but it is so much more than that. The pinnacle of Soloman's wisdom can be summed up in one phrase "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom."In this series, "Fearing Deity and Defying Stupidity" not only will we seek to gain wisdom from this book but we will also dive into how it relates to the embodiment of wisdom... One of the most common questions you must answer as an adult for the rest of your life is "What's for dinner?" This question is not as simple as it may seem. What and where we eat on a regular basis determines the trajectory of your life, so we need to make wise choices. You might have ice cream for dinner once or twice, but if you have ice cream for dinner every night, you will compromise your health and nutrition. As we look at Proverbs 9, we're given two choices for dinner, the house of Lady Wisdom, or the house of Lady Folly. Through this passage we will see how our choices affect our lives both now and in the future.

Josh Kouri kicks off Frontline's next Counter-Formation series on "Identity" by teaching from Proverbs 9:1-6, 13-18.
Jesus invites you to come and eat of him. He invites you to come and drink of him. Apart from him you can do nothing. Apart from him there is only hopelessness. But in Him is life. Will you come? He is inviting you to find life and meaning in him, to close your ears to Lady Folly and open your ears and your heart to Lady Wisdom, in whom is the real life you long for. The choice is yours.

What does the bible mean when it says, “do not be overly righteous, and do not make yourself too wise”. Why do seemingly good people sometimes perish and wicked people live long lives? Does everyone sin? Why? Come join us as we tackle some of the hard passages of Ecclesiastes 7. Sermon Outline:I. We are not to be overly righteous nor overly wicked. a. Take hold of this truth.II. None are righteous, all sin. a.The proof you sinIII. Full wisdom is unobtainable.IV. The scheme of all thingsSermon Discussion Questions:1. What should you do when you encounter cryptic or difficult passages of scripture?2. How does being overly righteous fail to miss the gospel? Why or how is it sometimes used to wrongly “manipulate” or “force God's hand”? 3. What is the fear of the Lord. How does a proper understanding of it help us in our Christian life?4. Why is the Doctrine of Original Sin important in the understanding that everyone sins? What happens when you remove the understanding that people are not morally neutral?5. What is personification and how is it used throughout the Wisdom Literate in categories such as Lady Wisdom and Lady Folly? How did it apply to our passage on Sunday regarding the temptress?
Within Proverbs, we find Wisdom and Folly daily competing for our attention. Whose path will we choose? Will we walk the path of Wisdom, or be seduced by the path of Folly? Listen this week as Dave shows how we can build up the muscles to choose Wisdom over Folly.

Personification is taking attributes of humans and applying it to animals, or abstract notions in a story. In poetry this is often used as a literary device. Proverbs 8 personifies Wisdom and its competing counterfeit, Folly. Help fund the podcast: Patreon Listen to other podcasts produced by Generation Mars Media

Pastor Mitch discusses the pros and cons of following either Lady Wisdom or Lady Folly.
This chapter is unique among the Proverbs. Here, Dame Wisdom speaks for herself; and the entire poem is a praise song reminding us how important she is and where to discover her. In contrast to Lady Folly, Wisdom is available publicly. She offers true wealth; and her influence is infinite from eternity past to eternity future.
Today's scripture is Proverbs 7:22, "All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter."
"Lady Wisdom & Lady Folly" | Proverbs 9 - June 19, 2022 by City Church STL
The voice of Lady Folly tempts people to see sweet and pleasant things in what is mischievous and rebellious. Her allure is in the excitement and thrill of getting away with what we want. But she doesn't tell you that her rewards are superficial and temporary, and they often come with drastic consequences. She calls out to people, inviting them to join her in secret pleasures, but little do they know that, in the end, it will always leave a bitter taste in their mouths. Lady Folly is a personification of the attribute of foolishness. She imitates wisdom as she tries to seduce people to listen to her, offering enticing and appealing things to lure naïve people into her trap. But that is like any replica, it is designed to look like the authentic. If we know what to look for and if we examine where the road leads, we can easily spot that Lady Folly is a complete fraud.
