Behavior Gap Radio: Exploring human behavior...with a Sharpie

In this episode, Carl shares a powerful lesson from Olympic silver medalist Haley Batten about what happens when things don't go your way—and how you respond. Reflecting on her race, where setbacks like a bad start and a flat tire could have ended everything, Carl explores the idea that resilience isn't accidental—it's practiced. From everyday frustrations to high-stakes moments, he invites you to consider how you might train your response, creating space between stimulus and reaction so, when things fall apart, you're ready for it.Want more from Carl? Jarek Berga - April 19th 2026 When God says no, don't shut Him out—let it reveal your heart and draw you closer to Him. In this message from April 19, we step out of our Matthew series to explore the story of Cain and Abel in Genesis 4—a deeply human story about disappointment, trust, and how we respond when things don't go our way. We all experience moments where life doesn't turn out how we hoped. Prayers seem unanswered, opportunities don't come, and outcomes feel unfair. In those moments, something deeper is exposed—not just frustration, but questions about ourselves and about God. Can He be trusted? Has He forgotten me? Through Cain's story, we see that when God says “no,” it doesn't create what's inside us—it reveals it. Like blood work that exposes what's already in the system, God uses these moments to surface what's happening beneath the surface of our hearts. The danger is not just disappointment—it's what we do with it. Cain withdraws. He refuses to bring what's really going on inside him to God. And what he doesn't bring to God eventually spills out in destructive ways. This message challenges us to consider: where are we staying on the surface instead of being honest with God? Where are we carrying things alone instead of bringing them into the light? At the center of this message is a powerful invitation: when God says no, don't pull back—lean in. Because our response reveals what we trust. While Cain closes himself off, Jesus shows us a different way. In the garden, facing suffering and a path He didn't naturally desire, Jesus remains open to the Father: “Not my will, but Yours be done.” Where we tend to raise the drawbridge and protect ourselves, Jesus keeps His heart open—so that we can be welcomed in. This message invites you to lower the drawbridge. To bring your disappointment, confusion, doubt, and questions honestly before God. Not to pretend, not to force a response—but to trust that He is still good, still near, and still at work. Because when God says no, it is not rejection—it may be an invitation to deeper trust, healing, and transformation. Could the pain you feel actually be wisdom waiting to unfold? How often do your expectations write a story your reality can’t live up to? Could disappointment be your teacher, not your enemy? In this episode of A Really Good Cry, Radhi Devlukia dives deep into the emotion we all try to avoid—disappointment. She explores why this feeling cuts so deep, describing it as the space between expectation and reality—a form of grief for what could have been. Drawing from her own reflections, Radhi reveals how disappointment often says more about our assumptions than the situation itself. Instead, Radhi invites listeners to find peace in the middle ground: To feel the emotion fully, take ownership of their response, and reframe disappointment as tuition—the price we pay for wisdom. In this episode, you’ll learn: Why disappointment may be a form of grief, not failure How perfectionism and shrinking dreams both come from fear Why effort doesn’t always equal outcome—and that’s okay How to reframe disappointment as tuition, not tragedy Why feeling your emotions fully gives them less power How to stop outsourcing your peace to other people or results You’ll learn how to stop outsourcing your peace, communicate with compassion, and find meaning in moments that didn’t go as planned. This isn’t about pretending everything’s fine—it’s about trusting that you can handle what is. In this raw and heartfelt episode, Petia Kolibova Burns opens up about a powerful spiritual shift that happened at church. She reflects on the difference between conditional faith—faith that says 'only if'—and the deeper, unshakable faith that says 'even if.' Petia shares stories from her life and from others who have experienced loss, disappointment, and unfulfilled desires, yet chose to trust God's plan anyway. If you've ever found yourself asking God for proof before you believe, this episode is a powerful invitation to surrender your expectations and walk boldly in faith, no matter the outcome.     In this episode we'll learn: True faith is not based on conditions—it's built on trust even when outcomes don't align with our desires. New Age manifestation often focuses on self, while biblical faith surrenders control to God. We often say 'only if' when approaching God—Petia encourages replacing that with 'even if'. Our trust in God should not depend on our circumstances or what we receive. Powerful testimony of a husband who lost his wife but continued to walk faithfully in God's promises.   Ask yourself these questions: What are you putting in front of God right now? Where in your life are you saying ‘only if' instead of ‘even if'? What would it look like to trust God without needing a sign or a condition? Can you write down your list of 'only ifs' and place God in front of them today?   You are made for impact. Your voice, your testimony, and your faith journey are powerful. Keep sharing, keep believing, and keep showing up even if things don't go your way. God sees your heart, and He honors your trust.

We know that life is not fair. We know that things don't always go as planned. Yet in spite of knowing this, when things don't go our way we get angry, frustrated, and upset. That's ok, these are normal reactions unless our negative emotions overwhelm us, shut us down or create greater problems for us such as self-blaming, shaming and not feeling adequate. How do we keep from pulling our hair out when our expectations for what we want or need are not met? In this episode, Ted talks about how we can approach those times when life is not predictable or fair. While acknowledging that no one likes when things go wrong, this episode provides some thought provoking ideas that you can implement right away that can make it easier to deal with the unplanned, unexpected and unwanted circumstances of life. In this episode, we're flipping the script on what it means when things "don't go our way." Why is it that whenever something doesn't work out, we immediately assume something went wrong? We start asking ourselves questions like, “What did I do wrong?” or “What's wrong with me?” We spiral into thinking we're not worthy, that we didn't do enough, or that we somehow deserve this. Sound familiar? Today, I'm diving into a new perspective – actually, three of them – that can help you stop this cycle of self-blame and see life from a more balanced, empowering place. Instead of defaulting to “right” and “wrong.” Tune in to learn how to shift your mindset and make peace with the unknown.   Other episodes you might like:  207: Miracles or Coincidences: Your Choice! 211: How To Not Freak Out When Life Slows Down   Let's be friends on Instagram! On this episode I talk about my latest experience with feeling down, moody, doubtful about myself, and feeling unworthy. I had a rough few months of moments where I thought maybe I should stop doing this music thing, and to tell you that i'm completely out of these grounds would be a lie, but my situation has improved significantly because I was able to follow a few principles which I share in this episode Hope you Enjoy
