The call to prayer made by one woman in Lamoni, IA in the late 1800s sparks the interest of thousands of women around the world and raises the ire of a lot of men. Eleanor Kearney hasn't been spoken of much in the church, but she's another of the unsung women heroes of the church. Because of her feistiness and determination, and in spite of her hearing disability, Eleanor played a significant role in engaging women in ministry and raising awareness of women's contributions to the church. Join host Karin Peter, and guest, Wendy Eaton, for another episode of Cuppa Joe: Women of the Restoration and see what a little determination can accomplish. Ammon and his brothers were given permission by Lamoni and his father to preach the gospel to all the Lamanites. Many converted. Once they learned the gospel they no longer wanted to be called Lamanites. They wanted a new name that showed their faith. They chose the name Anti Nephi Lehi's – which means the mirror image (or like) Nephi and Lehi. They choose to bury their weapons to show God they never wanted to kill or go to war again. What things in your life do you need to bury to show God you have truly repented and want to follow Him?
Ammon is going with King Lamoni to free his brothers from prison. On the way, they meet King Lamoni's father. King Lamoni's father has been taught, and taught his people his entire life, that the Nephites are their enemies. He tells his son, King Lamoni to kill Ammon. King Lamoni has been converted to God and he loves Ammon for bringing him to the truth. He refuses to kill Ammon, even though his father, the King of all the Lamanites, has commanded him to. The king is so upset he turns to hurt his son. Ammon protects his son and is even able to hurt the King if he chooses. King Lamoni says he will give Ammon anything he wants, even half his kingdom if he will spare his life. Ammon asks that Lamoni can still be king of his land, and rule the way he chooses, and that his brothers will be freed. Lamoni's father is stunned. Ammon did not ask for anything for himself. He grants Ammon's desires.
Ammon rescues the kings flocks! He slays 7 of the Lamanites trying to steal from the King. The other servants and King Lamoni think Ammon is the Great Spirit? Ammon teaches them all about God. King Lamoni passes out and is converted!
Ammon comes as a missionary to the Lamanites. He tells King Lamoni he might live there the rest of his life. Through his service and God's help, He protects the kings flocks and the King and his servants come to know Ammon has the power of God.
Today we talk about Lamoni's incredible conversion, and the power of Abish in her testimony.

We would love to have you join us for a Church History tour this October. Email us at thescripturesarereal@gmail.comIn this episode Ben Lomu, who played King Lamoni in the Book of Mormon Movies, helps us think through some of the things Lamoni must have thought and experienced. He also helps us think through what Ammon, Aaron, Abish, and others must have gone through. All of this helps us better understand this famous story and how it might be applied in our lives and how it might help us help those we love.We are grateful for our sponsors who make the podcast possible. We are also grateful for our producer, BJ Muhlestein, and for Rich Nicholls, who composed and plays the music for the podcast.

Our Mothers Knew It with Maria EckersleyA Creative Study of Come, Follow MeBook of Mormon [ALMA 17-22] Insights“They Were Steadfast and Immovable”July 1 – July 7 2024WEEK 27: SUMMARY=================Lesson Summary:This week we head deep into Lamanite territory as we follow the Sons of Mosiah on the first leg of their 14 year mission. Ammon will head to the Land of Ishmael and change the heart of King Lamoni, his wife, and many others. We'll see how men like Ammon and women like Abish work together to live the gospel in a way that draws hearts to Jesus Christ. We'll also study the rockier missionary road of Aaron and others who try to teach Nehor-like hearts. Ultimately, the Spirit does a mighty work through efforts of these missionaries and the tide starts to turn for the Lamanites.Questions to Consider:Alma 17:14 & 21:7-11 | Can Elder Maxwell's warning about doctrines “going wild” apply to the phrase “wild, hardened, and ferocious”. Is there a progression between those three things? How does distorting doctrine begin that slippery slope?Alma 18:1-3 | If you compare this witness to the testimony of the man born blind, what similarities do you see? How does Lamoni's response differ from the Pharisees?Alma 19:6 | Do you think this light is visible to Ammon or he just senses it from the Spirit? If it is visible, why can't others see it? What scriptures help you understand this kind of spiritual ultraviolet light?CHAPTERS=========00:00:13 INSIGHTS INTRODUCTION00:04:58 INSIGHTS CHAPTER SUMMARY00:11:19 SPARK 1: THE STRIPLING SONS OF MOSIAH00:21:23 SPARK 2: A TALE OF TWO WIVES00:32:48 SPARK 3: THE POWER OF ALL00:43:40 QUESTIONS00:49:19 WRAP UPLINKS=====WEB: https://www.gather.meckmom.comINSTAGRAM: Instagram @meckmomlifePODCAST: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST DISCLAIMER=================================This podcast represents my own thoughts and opinions. The middle chapters of the Book of Alma have a strong emphasis on missionary stories and events. Alma 9-14 is about Alma and Amulek's preaching in Ammonihah. Alma 17-26 centers us on Ammon with King Lamoni and Aaron with Lamoni's father. Last, Alma 30-34 take us to Alma and Amulek's missionary encounters with Korihor and the Zoramites. In this episode, BYU professors John Hilton, Jan Martin, Tyler Griffin, and Dan Belnap explore these missionary journeys and teachings in an inspiring scripture conversation.

All roads lead to Lamoni, Iowa — at least for Chad and Katie. Their relationship began when they were both students at Graceland, and it all came full circle when they found themselves back in Lamoni, bringing their vision for a chemical-free produce and cut-flower farm to life. In this episode of Chai Can't Even, host Robin Linkhart sits down with Chad and Katie Hensley to hear the story of how they met, the Big Creek Farms origin story, and also the Hensley's thoughts on how the church can best adapt to the needs of the younger generations. For some, the thought of getting “lost” in the masses is the preferred way to exist. But, for others, like Graceland University Freshman Addison Cole, a small university and a small-town atmosphere like Lamoni, IA is the perfect place to find one's self. At Graceland, Addison has found a place where community is more important than competition, and personal integrity is more important than perfection. Join hosts Julie Wheaton and Mike Hoffman for a lively conversation with Addison in this episode of Coffee in the Swarm. Cydney Stables is a 2022 National Proficiency Finalist in the category of Agricultural Sales Entrepreneurship. She achieved this by starting a floral business her junior year of high school that she calls "Flowers By Cydney". Cydney states that this was during the Covid Pandemic, and 80% of the reason she started this business was that she wanted to make people feel a bit better during very tough times. Cydney is currently a sophomore at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa where she plays guard on the basketball team and is also a scholarship athlete on the golf team. Cydney played basketball all through high school, which led to her being recruited by Graceland Univeristy, but she did not start golfing until her senior year of high school. However, she picked up the sport so fast that she made it to state that year and Graceland also asked her to play golf for them.
