In Episode #87, Ross is joined by Robert Brunner, Founder and Creative Director at AmmunitionRobert is the former Industrial Design Director at Apple and current Lead Designer for Beats by Dre. He's a globally acclaimed product designer with over 40 years of experience. Robert built the pioneering internal corporate design organisation at Apple, and was a partner at the prestigious design consultancy, Pentagram. Under his leadership, his current studio, Ammunition, has developed iconic products for Beats, Lyft, Square, Polaroid, and numerous start-up enterprises.Ross and Robert discuss the four elements of “making great”, the benefits of not accepting mediocrity, how micro-compromises build mediocrity, and being clear on why what you are designing is worth being designed.Find show notes and episode highlights at https://nwrk.co/omq-robert. Robert Brunner — former Chief Designer at Beats by Dre, Partner at Pentagram, and founder of Ammunition — joins us to explore the deep emotional connection between design and identity. With over three decades of experience building culture-shaping products for Apple, Square, and more, Robert unpacks what makes design iconic, how empathy fuels innovation, and why great products don't just work — they speak to the soul.In this episode, you'll learn:The real difference between design and artHow Beats by Dre was built to become a cultural movementWhat every founder should know about building brand-led productsThe overlooked power of prototyping and the “death by a thousand cuts” in product designWhy empathy is the most underrated design toolHow AI is changing the design landscape — and why human creativity still winsWhether you're a founder, marketer, or product leader, this conversation will change how you think about brand, product, and the power of design.
On this week's edition of the Talking Michigan Transportation podcast, a conversation with Gregg Brunner, chief operations officer at the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), about recent deadly crashes in or near work zones. On June 24, a truck driver was killed and MDOT workers were injured in a crash on I-75 in Monroe County. In another, July 1, two people were killed in a crash in a work zone queue on I-96 west of Portland. Brunner composed a poignant message to department employees with a reminder of the need to be vigilant about safety. From his message: We talk often about safety, but these events are painful reminders of just how critical it is every single day, in every single task. Whether you're in a work zone, near active traffic, in one of our garages or facilities, or behind the wheel, your actions matter. Safety is a mindset, not a checklist. It's about being present, engaged and always looking out for one another. Brunner talked about benefits to be found in developments in technology to alert drivers and the promise of driver-assist technologies in vehicles, as outlined by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

“They would take you around, introduce you to all of their contacts, translate for you, and help you put together the story,” says scholar-journalist Kira Brunner Don in this week's episode of The World in Time. “And I often felt like, you pay them, of course, a day rate, but there was this understanding that real news was made by American journalists who flew in and told you what was what. All of us were depending on journalists from the country, or writers from the country, who knew it far better than we did and really had the context and the sensibility. But there was this unspoken rule that they'll be biased. I really felt like I wanted to create something that instead focused on the actual voices of the people who live in the countries we're covering.” This week on the podcast Donovan Hohn hosts a two-part episode. First, he speaks with Kira Brunner Don, former executive editor of Lapham's Quarterly, about the making of our first issue, States of War, from Winter 2008, and about the magazine Brunner Don edits now, Stranger's Guide. In part two of this episode, Hohn speaks with Nathan Brown, translator of Verso's new dual-language edition of Charles Baudelaire's The Flowers of Evil, about the history of Baudelaire's magnum opus. Brown gives us a guided tour of “Recueillement,” the Baudelaire poem read at Lewis Lapham's memorial service, which Brown has translated anew for Lapham's Quarterly, under the title “Introspection.”

Birdsong is disappearing from our landscapes—but why? In the latest episode of What the Field, we sit down with Ariel Brunner, Regional Director of BirdLife International, to talk about why the dramatic decline in bird populations across Europe is not just a tragedy for nature lovers, but a warning sign for the future of our food systems.Drawing from decades of experience in conservation, Ariel explains how industrial agriculture has devastated biodiversity—especially among farmland birds—and how rethinking the way we farm, consume, and organise politically could turn things around. From the disappearance of house martins in southern Spain to the global expansion of monocultures, we unpack how our current food production model is ecologically unsustainable. But this isn't just another story of environmental collapse. Ariel also shares tangible examples of hope: collaborative projects like “Olivares Vivos” that restore biodiversity in olive groves, and ways city dwellers can make space for birds even without a garden.Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/crowd_farming/ Blog: https://www.crowdfarming.com/blog/en/

Christian Brunner joins me to talk about his book Alpine Witchery. Christian has researched the accounts of hundreds of witch trials which took place in his native Austrian Alps. The accounts record the spells men and women were accused of conducting which he has carefully categorized with their elements and ingredients. This is not a grimoire per se, but does allow for those intersted to see how these folk traditions might be adapted and used today. Christian shares his connection to the material as well as his process for translating these for this project. Alpine Witchery is available at Llewellyn, from your local bookshop (ask them to order if not in stock), or online seller. In this episode, we're diving into the power of art to move, inspire, and transform. Grant Skeldon sits down with Zac Lawson and Rebecca Brunner—two artists who believe creativity isn't just for entertainment, but a way to connect with deeper truth and emotion. Zac Lawson is a two-time grammy-nominated songwriter/producer with his brother, JVKE, best known for their song Golden Hour. Laylla and Chelle sit down with author and druid Christian Brunner to discuss his latest book, Alpine Witchery: Austrian Folk Magic, Lore & Spellcraft. Drawing from trial records spanning the 15th to 19th centuries, Christian unveils nearly fifty authentic spells and the captivating stories behind them, offering a rare glimpse into the lives of the accused witches of the Austrian Alps .Unlike the Salem witch trials, where many of the accused were innocent, some individuals in these Austrian trials were indeed practitioners of folk magic. The trio delves into the cultural and historical contexts of these practices, exploring how magic was interwoven with daily life in the Alpine regions. They also discuss the unique ingredients and rituals found in these spells, such as using animal parts or specific herbs, and how they can be adapted for modern practice. And of course, it wouldn't be a conversation with Christian Brunner without a few jaw-dropping spell ingredients pulled straight from the old grimoires. One 400-year-old spell includes a smokable blend involving pig poo...yes, really. Even Laylla, known for her love of smokable spells and adventurous herbal blends, had to draw the line. There's natural... and then there's no thank you! Sometimes history is magickal, and sometimes it just stinks.Whether you're a history enthusiast, a practitioner of folk magick, or simply curious about witch trials, this episode offers a fascinating journey into a lesser-known aspect of European witchcraft. Alex was pleasantly surprised by the hybrids in the test at IMS, but there are still some issues to work through, plus it's race week, not Tim's -no one cares about that one- but Barber. All that, plus Alex had another squirrel in his place, and apparently Brunner is a Houdini-Doodle, or Houdoodle, if you will.+++Off Track is part of the SiriusXM Sports Podcast Network. Was ist heute davon übrig?

| Devotional by Karlan Brunner (based on the book “40 Days of Decrease: A Different Kind of Hunger, A Different Kind of Fast” by Alicia Britt Chole) : Day Eleven / 40 Days Of Decrease Fast | Jesus ministered to many of the people who were considered outcasts in their time. Of course while we read about it, it's hard to believe that the Pharisees would be so judgemental towards others. What we don't realize is that we can be found guilty of this almost every day without even realizing it. Think about people in your life that you may be spiritually underestimating. Today, as we fast “religious profiling” pray for those people as they come to mind and ask God to help you view them the way He does.
