Maybe you've been told to put your money where your mouth is, but have you ever been told to put your money where your values are? In this What's Brewing episode we take a step away from doing mission to exploring a new way to make mission possible. Blake Smith hosts Karsten Kasmar, founder of Real Hope Advisors, to discuss values-based financial management. Karsten emphasizes that everyone has wealth, not just the financially affluent, and shares his journey from financial instability to helping others align their finances with their values. Karsten encourages listeners to decide who and what they want to be in the world and then find ways, in community, to make it a whole-life reality. Books mentioned by Karsten: “Total Money Makeover,” by Dave Ramsey “Finance for the People” by Paco de Leon Have a question for Karsten? On this third Sunday of Advent, we find ourselves journeying with someone other than Jesus. Instead, we're hanging out with the camel hair-wearing, locust-eating John the Baptist. It seems that Jesus wasn't the only one the religious leaders were willing to interrogate. Join hosts, Karin Peter and Blake Smith as they wander with John … clearly NOT Jesus, but rather the one that points to him. Perhaps we can pick up a few pointers from John as we wait for the true “light” to come. Listen to more from the Coffee to Go series. Download the Transcript.

Ahead of MLB's Winter Meetings in Orlando, the Blue Jays have made a couple of moves. They have signed Cody Ponce, who was drafted in 2015 by the Brewers. He spent 5 years in the Brewers system before 3 years with the Pirates during which he never really figured it out. He then went to the Nipon League in Japan for 3 years before moving to Korea and earning MVP honours while striking out 252 batters. The Jays also outrighted Yariel Rodriguez to the minors, leaving them with two open spots on the 40-man roster.

Ailish Forfar and Justin Cuthbert kick things off with John Bartlett (1:38) ahead of the Montreal Canadians hosting the Winnipeg Jets at the Bell Centre. They discuss how the Jets have been performing without their star goaltender in the lineup, the Habs' injuries and struggles against the Senators last night, how Winnipeg have tried to fill in the void of Ehlers, which Habs could crack an Olympic roster, and much more. Later, Arden Zwelling joins the show (26:57) to discuss what the Jays are getting in Cody Ponce, what to expect from the Winter Meetings, what is next for the Jays' offseason, the outlook for the Jays' rotation next season, and more. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Guests: Gord Ash, VP Baseball Projects, Milwaukee Brewers; Jee-ho Yoo, Yonhap News Agency This week in Deep Left Field, we get you set for Major League Baseball's annual swap meet and free-agent signing session, the winter meetings, by giving you a look from the inside. Canadian Baseball Hall of Famer Gord Ash joins us to talk about what the meetings are like from a general manager's perspective. Ash was the Blue Jays' GM from 1995-2001 after working under Pat Gillick for six seasons. We also take you across the world to South Korea, where the Jays dove into the international market and pulled out right-hander Cody Ponce, who had a record-setting season with the Hanwha Eagles of the KBO, winning the pitching triple crown while establishing new league marks in ERA and strikeouts. Jee-ho Yoo, who spent his university days in Toronto, joins us from the far east to tell us what he saw from Ponce this season and what Jays fans can expect. And, as always, we open up the mailbag at deepleftfield@thestar.ca
The league is not easing into the Winter Meetings. Everything is already moving. Episode 122 opens with a full preview of the Winter Meetings in Orlando, where front offices, agents, and scouts spend four days accelerating conversations that normally take weeks. We lay out what the schedule looks like, why teams such as Seattle, the Mets, the Dodgers, Milwaukee, Detroit, and Boston are positioned to act, and note that the Rule 5 Draft is on deck as part of the week's business. It's the annual checkpoint that pushes stalled talks forward, and this year the trade market is already hinting at a few possible flashpoints. From there, we break down the Mets' big bullpen addition. New York lands Devin Williams on a 3-year, $51 million deal, giving them a late-inning anchor regardless of what happens with Edwin Díaz. We look at why the Mets felt comfortable betting on the underlying metrics, what Williams still does at an elite level, and how his arrival gives the front office multiple paths through the rest of the winter. It's a stabilizing move before the Meetings even begin. We also get into Baltimore's signing of Ryan Helsley, who might be one of the most interesting rebound bets of the offseason. The Orioles see fixable issues — pitch tipping, sequencing predictability, fastball shape — and believe their pitching infrastructure can get him back to All-Star form. With Félix Bautista recovering, Baltimore needed a legitimate ninth-inning option, and Helsley arrives with both the stuff and the track record to fill that role immediately. Two international signings hit the board as well: Anthony Kay to the White Sox and Cody Ponce to the Blue Jays. Both reinvented themselves overseas, both return with new arsenals, and both deals reflect MLB's growing willingness to invest in pitchers who rebuild their value in the KBO and NPB. Kay gives Chicago a stabilizing piece in a flexible rotation, while Ponce becomes another power arm in what might be the deepest starting group in baseball. We also look at Sonny Gray, who hasn't thrown a pitch for Boston yet but already leaned into the rivalry by taking a swipe at the Yankees. His comments added instant juice to a tense dynamic between the two clubs, and Boston paid real prospect capital to get him. We walk through the rotation fit, the motivation behind the deal, and the early messaging coming out of Fenway. To close things out, we propose one trade that feels realistic heading into the Meetings — a move that fits the market, the needs on both sides, and the competitive timelines without getting speculative. Think of it as the early favorite to become this year's headline move once executives settle into Orlando. Steve and Devin walk through each signing, the market context, the roster ripple effects, and the trade to watch as the Meetings begin. Two major reliever signings. Two international additions. One rivalry story. One trade prediction going into baseball's busiest week. Follow @TablesettersPod on Instagram and X for full Winter Meetings coverage with updates, reactions, and everything happening out of Orlando.
We often need to be reminded to slow down ... especially as things seem to speed up in anticipation of the Christmas season. In this episode of Awaken to God's presence, host Robin Linkhart encourages listeners to find peace, hope, and joy amidst life's challenges. She emphasizes the importance of slowing down and embracing the season's holy waiting, and describes Advent hope as a trust in God's movement, peace as God's presence in struggle, joy as small, tender moments, and love as ever-arriving and transformative. Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith joins JD to discuss Cody Ponce's track record, how good he can be in MLB, if former Blue Jay Hyun Jin-Ryu had an impact, how the Jays are scouting in the Pacific rim, the Jays' overloaded starting rotation, Jose Berrios' standing on the rotation, if the Ponce signing signals the departure of Chris Bassitt and Max Scherzer and how that may impact the team, predicting Eric Lauer's role with the team moving forward, the remaining relief market, and the latest on Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker. The Blue Jays have reportedly reached a three-year, $30 million deal with right-hander Cody Ponce, who was named KBO MVP last season - what does this mean for the starting rotation? MLB Network's Jon Morosi (1:49) stops by the FAN Morning Show with Brent Gunning and Sho Alli to break down why fans should be excited and what this means for people like José Berríos or Trey Yesavage when the regular season arrives, and gets into the evolving closer market around baseball as well. Afterwards, Sportsnet's Shi Davidi (21:31) discusses Ponce's stuff and whether or not it will play when he returns to MLB, and what this means for other pieces of business as the Jays off-season rolls on. I'm seeing double here. Fourteen potential Jays starting pitchers??!?OK, OK, the Jays may not quite have quite that many rotation options—Eric Lauer is pretty clearly slated for the bullpen at this point, at the very least—but with the additions of Dylan Cease and, now, Cody Ponce, they clearly have six. (Gausman, Yesavage, Bieber, and Berríos, of course, being the others). And because of that glut, Ponce's arrival is not your typical three-year, $30 million signing of the reigning KBO MVP.And this week we've jumped on mic a day earlier than usual to talk all about it!FOR AN AD-FREE VERSION OF THIS—AND EVERY—EPISODE, PLUS WEEKLY BONUS SHOWS, FIND US AT patreon.com/BJHH Hosted on Acast. In this episode of the HVAC Know It All Podcast, host Gary McCreadie talks with Jeff Ponce, Senior Product Manager at RectorSeal, about Clear Drain PVC and the science behind better condensate management. Jeff explains how traditional PVC drain lines develop clogs caused by bacteria and biofilm buildup and how Clear Drain PVC solves this with a hydrophobic surface that prevents growth. They discuss why zinc is used in the product, how it creates a slippery surface instead of killing bacteria, and the research and development behind its creation. Jeff also shares how the product was first used in grocery store refrigeration systems in Europe and how it is now helping HVAC contractors prevent costly water damage and maintenance issues. This episode discusses the challenges HVAC technicians face with condensate drain management and how new technology can prevent common clogs. Jeff Ponce from RectorSeal explains how Clear Drain PVC was created to stop bacteria and slime from sticking inside pipes. He shares how the zinc mixed into the PVC fills tiny pores, creating a smooth, slippery surface that keeps drains clean. Jeff also talks about how the product was first used in grocery store refrigeration systems in Europe and later tested for HVAC use in the United States. His focus is on helping contractors reduce maintenance issues, prevent water damage, and keep systems running efficiently. Expect to Learn: How condensate drain problems start and why they cause major HVAC issues. Why do traditional PVC pipes allow bacteria and biofilm to grow inside? «¿Prometes obediencia a mí y a mis sucesores?

“Did I do that?!” When Urkel asked that question in the TV show “Family Matters,” it was usually because he had done something wrong. But that is not the case when referring to Christ's mission and the Reign of Christ. As a matter of fact, we should hope that the answer would be a resounding “Yes.” Join co-hosts Karin Peter and Blake Smith as they discuss this week's journey with Jesus, where Jesus is summarizing through parable what really separates the “sheep” from the “goats.” Then ask yourself, “Which category do I fall in?” Listen to more episodes in the Coffee to Go series. In a time where people of color in the United States face new and escalating marginalization, we at Faith Unfiltered thought it timely to re-post this timeless conversation about faith and courage. Join Katie Langston as she interviews Vivian Jenkins-Nelsen, a social worker, scholar, and anti-racism activist from Minneapolis who was awarded the Presidential Volunteer Service Award from Barack Obama. Vivian shares her remarkable faith journey: growing up as the daughter of the only Black Lutheran pastor for miles and miles around, becoming deeply involved in the Civil Rights Movement with Dr. King, doubting her Christian faith, and eventually claiming a place in a faith tradition that did not always welcome her with open arms. This is a compelling story of faith in action, one that you will not want to miss. Listen to more episodes in the Percolating on Faith Series. Something new is being born in Community of Christ. A new spirit of hope is rising, and sometimes we need a reminder of all that we've experienced as a people and how we've been blessed by being open to God's movement among us. This Cuppa Joe episode, which originally aired two years ago, is a great way for us to remember our past and ground ourselves for what is yet ahead. Much has happened since the start of our movement... some good, some not so good … but all of it is filled with valuable teaching moments that remind us of the experiences that contributed to who we are and provided the foundations for who we are called to become. You may just be surprised at the conclusions to which Karin, Lach, and Tony come … conclusions that have incredible relevance in light of the issues we face as we enter the next era.
