You have to be able to evaluate if they are someone who is going to be able to take this design and run with it OR if they are someone who really need full service.   Today I sat down with one of the Designer's Oasis Members, Lauren Sullivan of Well by Design, a luxury virtual interior design studio based out of Tennessee.    Well by Design has been featured in multiple media outlets including Homes and Gardens, Southern Living, The Zoe Report and more.    After nearly a decade as a pharmacist, Lauren's two greatest loves—interiors and helping others feel their best—became more connected than ever with the launch of Well by Design.   Lauren helps homeowners nationwide create refined spaces that bring balance to their lives through a bespoke virtual experience. Never one to sacrifice style or substance and always finding the nuanced details.     Lauren seeks to prioritize the health of her clients and the environment by choosing safe, organic, and sustainable materials while working with artisans and small businesses as often as possible.    With an eye for timeless design, Lauren prides herself in tying together the tiniest of details that truly make a space feel unique to each client. In this episode we talk about topics including… 3 critical elements of working with clients virtually Lauren's experience of building her own home and how that has helped prepare her own clients for the road ahead Here's a glance at this episode… [03:40] We start with an introduction of Lauren as she shares her story about going from being a pharmacist to an interior designer! [11:10] Lauren shares with me how she came up with the name for her business, Well by Design and about the businesses' goals and intention. [18:46] Lauren is in the middle of building her own home and she shares the process and what she has learned.  [23:57] We discuss how interior designers fit into the “team” of architects, builders, and contractors. We are all familiar with doubt in our lives, sometimes it is obvious, other times it's hidden in our self-sabotage. It can be action or inaction. It can also spread like a virus through false belief and inaccurate ideas or myths. Well, we are here to offer a cure, and no, it's not more cowbell.https://reverb.orgREVERB was founded in 2004 by environmentalist Lauren Sullivan and her musician husband, Adam Gardner of Guster. While Lauren was seeing the power musicians brought to environmental campaigns when she was working at the Rainforest Action Network, Adam was feeling badly about the size of his band's environmental footprint on tour. After speaking to a number of other touring musicians who felt the same way, they decided to form REVERB. Lauren reached out to Bonnie Raitt's manager, Kathy Kane after seeing Bonnie's Green Highway tour which was an earth-friendly tour that educated fans at shows. REVERB was initially a project of Kathy and Bonnie's ARIA Foundation until it grew into it's own 501c3 organization.REVERB's early artist partners were Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson, Maroon 5, John Mayer and Barenaked Ladies–and continue to work with all of them to this day. Check out REVERB.ORG for more informationLet's start by diving into the myths we have heard over the years about musicians and money. This is in no way a complete list but is in fact an ever growing one. One thing we artists have proven good at it's making shit up! And very awesome.musicians get no tax breaksAs a musician it's better to not claim your income.WRONGGGGSince there is so much work I need to do on my music biz it's better to just not do any Every musician is different, no two are exactly the same, just like our fingerprints, we all have something unique. Music maker/activist/REVERB.ORG co-founder, Adam Gardner reaches back to the nascent years of his now ubiquitous nonprofit "dedicated to empowering millions of individuals to take action toward a better future for people and the planet." Adam chats with Perry about how life on the road with his beloved band Guster inspired him and his wife Lauren Sullivan, to become major players in the climate space. When REVERB first started up in the early aughts, "green was just a color," but now the organization can boast great strides in the endeavor of concert and event greening, the spearheading of multiple programs to reduce concert and tour footprints and engaging fans at shows to take action. Adam also gives props to Billie Eilish, Bonnie Raitt and Dave Matthews, and other music/climate trailblazers, and updates us on Guster happenings.Adam's choice for Hottest On Record is 2012's "Lost In The Light" by Bahamas, an artist whose firepit-friendliness got him through the heavy pandemic months. Gardner urges all of us to visit musicclimaterevolution.org, a REVERB launched campaign, partnered with Climate Control Projects, that is working to unite the music community in the fight against the climate crisis.

We've all asked where things come from; so, let's leap-frog that by asking where they go -- "somewhere" is not the right answer. Two from the frontline, though, know. Partners in life and in use -- Adam Gardner (who has been moonlighting with Guster for 20 years) and Lauren Sullivan (who had us at "perseverate") -- have been keeping global score for 15 years with their advocacy/progeny, Reverb; rallying artists to make "best use" of sonic bullhorns to repurpose the wakes that spread into the ties that connect. Ties that are never plastic. And, if so, never single-use. So, listen-up, then act. But not necessarily in that order.

They’ve created Reverb, a nonprofit, to help the industry get its green on. Adam explains, “The live music industry has historically been highly disposable, creating large amounts of landfill, energy and water waste. Think of all the plastic cups on the ground at the end of a concert or a weekend long festival, for example. Tour busses and trucks guzzle fuel carrying large crews, and large amounts of equipment across long distances every day on a tour. Tens of thousands of fans commute to a venue typically located 40 miles outside of major city centers, contributing to over 80 percent of a concert’s carbon footprint.” Adam recognized that other nonprofits face that Reverb could overcome. “Local and national enviro nonprofit organizations have had variable experiences ‘tabling’ at concerts because they aren’t directly connected to the band or they don’t have the capacity to compete against all the other attractions at a show to get concertgoers’ attention.” Working directly with the bands, Adam says, they can make a big difference. “Because I’m a touring musician myself, I’m able to speak to artists and their managers directly about how we can help make their tours more green while mobilizing and inspiring their fans to take action that adds up to real change.” --------------- Need a corporate social responsibility speaker?
