HRC Monster Energy Honda asserts it dominance on the 2024 Dakar Rally with another 1-2-3 podium performance for Stage 10.American Ricky Brabec took the stage win seconds in front of his teammates Nacho Cornejo and Adrien Van Beveren, setting the stage for an all-Honda fight for the overall race podium. Brabec added to his race lead in the overall rankings over Hero Motorsports' Ross Branch to nearly 11 minutes with two stages to go.We check in with the top finishers in the Rally GP class and check in with Rally 2 competitors in their tight battle for the overall win in class. I get guest suggestions sent to me regularly, and this show is the result of one of those. Dave Kallmann messaged me on Twitter to suggest a few motorsports photographers, and that instantly intrigued me. Dave is a sports reporter for Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and he is one hell of a photographer himself. If he was suggesting someone then I knew I had to take a look, and man, I am so glad that I did. Jamey Price is a motorsport and automotive photographer from Charlotte, North Carolina, and he is in a league of his own. If you've watched or listened to show for any amount of time, you'll know that I spend a lot of time looking through my guest's work to try and find common threads, those things that seem to connect all of the shots together. Many photographers have these fine threads that seem to weave from image to image, a way that they tell their story that is unique to them. For Jamey it's motion. Let me explain... As a motorsports photographer, of course Jamey is photographing things in motion, and when I say motion I mean speed, but that's not the thread I am talking about. Jamey has an ability to coney to the viewer a feeling of actual motion. Through the use of panning, a creative depth of field, or a dragged shutter, Jamey makes you feel like you are along for the ride. I'm not sure if you can motion sickness from a photo, but if you can then you'd be advised to view Jamey's work carefully. I am left wondering if Jamey's early career choices played a role in the resulting images I see. Jamey was a thoroughbred steeplechase horse racing jockey and exercise rider in the United States, England and Ireland. He rode in more than 50 races, and notched 11 wins in the saddle, all the while taking photos between his races. He eventually self published a book titled "Chasing: Racing Life in England & Ireland." In 2011, Jamey's photography career path switched from horses, to horse power. Since then, his images have been published around the world in magazines, newspapers and websites including The New York Times, HotRod, Hagerty, MAXIM, Car&Driver, CycleWorld, Road&Track, Autoweek, RACER, MotorTrend, Autosport, F1 Racing magazine, Motorsport Magazine, Formula1.com, Lamborghini.com, TopGear.com, Blackbird Automotive Journal, Popular Mechanics, Sports Illustrated & ESPN and many others. Today's KLIM Dakar Rally Daily show from Stage 12 is here and we are blown away by how close the front of the race continues to be. Amazing rides at the front of the race today shook the results up and turned predictability on its head. But, the front three contenders are still in control and the time gaps are someone staying unbelievably tight. We're talking less than three minutes separating the top three, 28-second gap between the top two!That's right, 28 seconds is the gap at the top of this Dakar Rally.We hear directly from stage bosses Daniel Sanders and Toby Price as they represent Australia with big pride at the front of the race today, delivering crazy strong performances in the dunes. Skyler Howes steals some internet access and sends us an update from the last few stages, as well. Great to hear from you, Skyler!Finally, our on-the-ground man with the microphone, Ashley House brings us two quick interviews today. First up is Technical Director at the KTM group for Rally Stefan Huber, who we've talked to before, but never during a Dakar quite like this. Then, House takes us to the Original by Motul class and gets the two front runners, who are separated by less than three minutes for the win, in a dual-interview full of drama! KLIM Dakar Rally Daily from Stage 11 of the 2023 Dakar Rally is LIVE.Boy, we honestly didn't see this coming. The race at the top of the general classification is off-the-charts close. Less than three minutes separates the top three riders, with first and second place covered by under 30 seconds. That's insane considering what each of these riders have been through. To keep the contenders for the win that close by stage 11 shows how successful the race organizations planning and points system is this year at keeping this a race to the finish. In today's show we hear from race stage winner (his third of the rally) Luciano Benavides, Daniel Sanders, Toby Price, Skyler Howes (who is back in the lead of the race),and  Mason Klein (who had a rough day in the race today). Then, we get a walking tour of the entire Dakar Bivouac from our unofficial on-the-ground correspondent Ashley House! Also, we check in with Original by Motul competitor Kirsten Landman who keeps impressing everyone with great riding and maximum endurance. And, last but not least, we get a welcomed update from Paul Neff from the hospital. American RallyGP Rookie Mason Klein raced to his career-first Dakar stage win in today's long and grueling Stage 2 of the 2023 Dakar Rally.The privateer racer on the BAS Trucks KTM support team started the day in third place, an unfavorable starting position giving the length of the stage and potential for massive time loss. But, it seemed, the field was more than happy to give him the chance to lead out towards the end of the rally and he did so with a bit of authority, stamping his name in the Dakar stage winner's book. We get on the phone with Klein and chat about his day in this episode. Also, we talk with the other American privateer out there, Jacob Argubright. Of course, we check in with the top contenders (as available) and hear from Toby Price, Joan Barreda, Daniel Sanders, and got the ironman/unsupported insight from Paul Neff in the Original by Motul class. Another entertaining and fun look into the big day at Dakar in Saudi. Johnny Rutherford became one of ten drivers to win the Indianapolis 500 at least three times, winning in 1974, 1976, and 1980. He also won the CART championship in 1980. The studio is stuffed and the couch is full this week! A very special power couple joins the trifecta for all things automotive, Stefan and Keerati Tomalik. Stefan is an avid amateur racer and BMW aficionado, not to mention, the rep for Motul oil products here in the PNW. His fiancé Keerati is a powerhouse of skills, not only being a decorated amateur motorcycle racer but also an automotive and culture influencer. The episode starts out by diving into the history of each of our guest unique pasts, starting with Keerati aka Miss K. Keerati talks about growing up outside the united states and what moving to the states did for her motorcycle opportunities. She explains the true grit it takes to go racing, from just improving your time and training, to financially affording and accepting the responsibility of inevitable breakdowns that happen to every racer and every machine. Keerati also talks about the building blocks of balanced relationship and how both her and Stefan keep both their passion for each other and passion for petrol alive. Then its Stefan's turn, Stefan started young in the JDM scene, with some of the oddest platforms, racing such rare items as the Isuzu Impulse until finally finding his real track partner, the BMW E46 3 series. From there Stefan studied and honed his racing skill in SoCal, rising to each challenge and eventually finding himself behind the seat of a Porsche 997 cup car. Stefan also opens up about the ins and outs of a balanced relationship, how he and Keerati met and eventually fell for each other, finally moving the two of them back to the PNW. Next the couple goes into future plans, both on and off the track as well as the positives that having a great product like Motul, has for the future of our motorsport scene locally. Lastly, since both the guests are avid BMW fans, the group discusses new BMWs. Starting with BMW's motorcycle division's new 1000cc sport bike. The styling, the performance and all the new tech. Mrs. Keerati weighs in on what she would keep and loose on the new BMW model, having owned previous BMW racing models and Walt tells us what future design language tells us about the 22nd century bike. Finally everyone throws their 2 cents in about the latest M2 from BMW, the power train, the design, the size and the price. There is a lot to unpack so stay till the end.
