» ** Association : APAAD ** ENTRETIEN IFOP : "IL Y'A UNE RÉELLE DEMANDE DE LA PART DU PUBLIC, CE QUI CONSTITUE UN MAGNIFIQUE ARGUMENT À PRÉSENTER AUX ÉLUS ET AUX INSTANCES”

This week we have a combo episode. It tells the stories of two successful women in marketing, in two different roles within marketing, united by the same graduate degree. Emilie Vicchio is the Marketing and Brand Communication Director at Client Solutions Architect, a global professional services firm. And Shannon Obrecht is her own boss. She owns her design agency, where she has dedicated her career to brand architecture and design. What I love about this episode is the dichotomy between these two; despite two different disciplines, they were both part of the University of Illinois' inaugural class for the Master's in Strategic Brand Communication Program (SBC). We dive into how the SBC program helped transform their careers and if this program or any form of higher education might help you. Welcome to our second holiday special! We give you first a touching family Christmas story, "Christmas at Red Butte," by Lucy Maud Montgomery, the author of Anne of Green Gables. Next, a Christmas meditation by Charles Dickens, entitled "A Christmas Tree." In this piece, the author of "A Christmas Carol" offers, instead of a story, a set of reminiscences about the meaning of Christmas past as he contemplates life-long celebrations of presents and toys, books, and stories both silly and serious — including a long section on ghost stories — and of course, as "A Christmas Carol" itself reminds us, telling ghost stories was a major Christmas tradition in Victorian England, adding supernatural chills to the chills caused by the weather. CREDITS Montgomery, "Christmas at Red Butte": read by Dee Canfield * Axletree, "Clothe the Fields with Plenty"; "Drops of Melting Snow"; "The Silent Grove" [https://freemusicarchive.org/music/Axletree/music-from-a-hampshire-farm] Dickens, "A Christmas Tree": read by Mischa Hooker * Borrtex, "Buying Presents"; "Happy Holidays"; "Christmas Eve"; "Love & Generosity" [https://freemusicarchive.org/music/Borrtex/Christmas_Time] * Jon Sayles [http://www.jsayles.com/familypages/EarlyMusic.htm; http://www.jsayles.com/familypages/holidaymusic.htm]: Couperin, "Les barricades mistérieuses"; Ravel, Piano Concerto in G, Adagio (2nd movement); Fauré, Requiem: "Kyrie," "Libera me," "Pie Jesu"; Obrecht, "Pace Domine"; Dufay, "Proles de caelo," "Ce mois de May"; Senfl, "Gottes Gewalt Kraft"; Pevernage, "Secoure moy, madame"; Carols: "Deck the Halls," "Angels We Have Heard on High," "Es ist ein Ros entsprungen" Theme music for program: * Chopin, Waltz in A-flat major, Op. 69, no. 1 and Waltz in B minor, Op. 69, no. 2 (performed by Olga Gurevich) Director / Organizer / Sound Editor: Mischa Hooker INFORMATION ON STORIES AND PLAYS REFERENCED BY DICKENS Dickens refers to many children's stories and plays in the course of his meditation, some still very familiar to young readers, others less familiar. Alphabet rhymes ("A Was an Archer") are still popular in easy readers; "Jack and the Beanstalk" and "Little Red Riding-Hood" are also very commonly read. Far less well known today are some of the plays Dickens mentions, such as "The Forest of Bondy, or Dog of Montargis"; or "The Tragedy of Jane Shore"; or "The History of George Barnwell." The internet provides immediate access to many of these historic works of children's literature, and it can especially be quite fun to see the old illustrations in the earlier editions even of familiar works. Apart from massive collections of scanned facsimiles offered by Google Books or the Internet Archive, one initiative to digitize and make available scans of numerous 18th- and 19th-century chapbooks is also worth pointing out: https://digital.library.mcgill.ca/chapbooks/index.php. We have gathered together a goodly collection of these old books mentioned by Dickens from these sources, in order to offer them for your interest in one spot. Warning! Looking into what another century considered good or appropriate is sometimes surprising or shocking — especially, adults should look over any such material before handing it over to children to read! Maxie says farewell to Obrecht before she goes overseas for trial. Robert tells Obrecht he will continue to try to bring Peter down. Lulu and Brook Lynn continue to spar despite Dustin’s best efforts at peacemaker. Valentine and Laura meet to discuss Charlotte’s custody. He’s willing to keep the joint custody in place and is asking Laura to her Lulu to do the same. Maxie and Lulu meet and Maxie tells Lulu that she is working with Valentine at Deception. Lulu tries to tell her she can’t but Maxie shits that down quickly by saying that she wasn’t asking permission. Nikolas and Sonny finally talk and Sonny lays into him about what he did to Spencer and even goes so far as to say that he is more of a father to Spencer that Nikolas is now. Vilot’s birthday party is in full swing. Robert arrives and pretends to bury the hatchet with Peter but he doesn’t buy it and bits a plan in motion to distract Robert. Charlotte reluctantly comes to the party with Lulu and also brings a snake with her as well. It seems like her plan is to put it in the piñata but after that last string is pulled and the candy comes out the children happily dive into it with no sign of the snake. Ava, also at the party with Avery, gets her purse to take a picture and screams as she finds the snake. While it appeared that Taggart had died after the shoot out at the warehouse, he really just passed out and is able to make it to General Hospital where he is read the riot act by Jordan, reaches an understanding with Sonny and spends time with Trina. He sends her off to get some candy and when she returns she learns that he has passed away. Elizabeth takes Trina home with her to stay until her mother gets back from her work trip. Cameron worries that he won’t be as good as a friend as she was to him when Franco sacrificed himself for Cameron and undertook the memory transfer. Ava comes to Elizabeth’s house to comfort Trina. Soon after Trina’s mother arrives and lets Ava know that she is Trina’s mother and not a way for Ava to reconnect with Kiki. Ava leaves and at the Metro Court, tells Franco that Trina’s mom was right. With the death of Taggert hanging heavy over everyone, Jordan is trying to figure out what to do next. She has prepared a full confession of her actions but Curtis talks her out of turning it in because it will not only release Cyrus but also overturn all the righteous convictions she had as well. Curtis has another idea and takes Jordan to meet with Sonny and Jason. Curtis proposes they team up to take down Cyrus because they both has access to certain things that the other needs. Jordan feels ambushed and refuses both working with Sonny but also the idea of Curtis acting as a go between Sonny and Jordan. After Jordan leaves, Sonny and Jason try to get Curtis to tell them what the connection is between Jodran, Taggert and Cyrus. Curtis leaves without saying anything but the way he leaves lets Sonny and Jason know that Cyrus has something on Jordan. If they can figure out what it is they can get leverage over Jordan. Molly talks with Sam about rejecting T.J.’s proposal and when she tries to find him to clear the air, she can’t locate him at work or home. She goes to Jordan to check in with her. Jordan says she has gotten a text from T.J. since Molly saw him but there is the chance that he’s been kidnapped as well. Brook Lynn is still trying to get out of her music contract and convinces Julian to threaten her manager. Julian’s talk is interrupted by Valentine who knows Brook Lynn is getting desperate if she is getting Julian involved. He tells the manager to offer to let Brook Lynn out of her contract in exchange for her ELQ stock. Brook Lynn is trying to figure out what the manager’s angle is when Olivia arrives. Oliva tells Brook Lynn that if she can live with what she has to do to get out of the contract then she should do it. Nelle gets her charges dismissed due to lack of evidence and immediately tells Michael she will be suing him for full custody of Wiley. Obrecht hears about Nelle situation and confronts her in the courtroom after Michael and Carly leave. She tells Nelle that if she keeps Obrecht’s delivering her baby a secret, she will not tell anyone that she was behind the baby switch. Chase and Sasha agree to keep an eye on Michael and Willow to make sure they aren’t getting overwhelmed by Wiley. And Peter convinces Anna that Obrecht was behind hiring the assassin who tried to kill Franco and Andre. Anna arrests Obrecht and tells Robert and Finn that Obrecht was the one behind everything but they aren’t buying it. We end the week with Anna asking if Finn will come home because it is safe now.

The idea of innovation has become so popular in the development and aid community that, unsurprisingly, it is difficult to keep up. There seem to be forums, conferences, blogs (and yes, even this podcast) that are putting information out there for your consumption to the point of overwhelm and it can be difficult to cut through the noise to create a better understanding of what works - and more importantly - what doesn't when it comes to better serving those in need. Luckily, there are also people out there like Alice Obrecht who are helping to curate some of the learning around innovation and make it accessible to everyone. In this 102nd episode of Terms of Reference, I speak with Alice about her work as a Research Fellow at the Secretariat for the Active Learning Network for Accountability and Performance (ALNAP), where she is currently leading research on the themes of innovation and effectiveness. And, as part of this work, she has led the ALNAP Secretariat’s involvement in the World Humanitarian Summit process. This isn't, of course, Alice's first gig in our industry. Prior to joining ALNAP, she worked in policy research at several institutions focusing on capacity building of regional inter-governmental institutions as well as accountability practices and frameworks both in and outside the humanitarian aid sector.

Dawn Obrecht, MD is a frequent speaker on addiction and recovery to physicians and other interest groups. She has published 3 books. Doc Dawn lives in Colorado with her husband, Eric. She has 6 grandchildren and 2 wonderful daughters and son-in laws. Dawn grew up in Baltimore and talks about her difficult childhood growing up in an alcoholic household. While she knows that her parents did love her and they did take care of her and her brother, this experience certainly had an impact on her pre-teen and teen years. She knew early on that she wanted to become a Dr. and is grateful that her parents supported her in this decision. Dawn tells us of her early years when she left home to go to school, as well as her early years of combining parenting and running a growing family practice. We hear Dawn talk about her feelings of being a grandmother to 6 beautiful grandchildren and how she has navigated through this role and has a purposeful and thoughtful relationship with her adult daughters. Quote - "He had the idea that human milk might boost his immune system. So he came to me as a friend and asked if I would prescribe it. He needed someone to prescribe it. He could not just go to the milk bank and buy it and apparently his oncologist would not prescribe it.

Buch: Andreas J. Her performance in Hungary's biggest hit of the 90's, We Never Die (Sose Halunk Meg), (final 35 - Best Foreign Film Entries for the Academy Awards) made her an extremely popular actress in Eastern and Central Europe.    Her film and televison roles are extensive.  Film roles include, Sunshine (Ralph Fiennes), Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, Trade (Kevin Kline), just to name a few.
