This year marks the silver anniversary of the barn-storming acoustic country music juggernaut known as Old Crow Medicine Show. They're a group that traces their roots to busking all across Canada and the United States. Since then, Old Crow Medicine Show has gained commercial success with their distinctively contemporary spin on old-school traditions. The band's song “Wagon Wheel” became certified Platinum in 2013, and is one of the best-known and most oft-covered roots music songs of this century. Old Crow Medicine Show's 25th anniversary is being suitably celebrated in Summer 2023 with the release of the band's 10th studio album, Jubilee.  Founding member Ketch Secor has remained a constant of the band through the last 25 years, and remains the band's lead singer, songwriter and fiddle player. In his early childhood years, Ketch's parents moved him around the country, opening up a series of schools in many different pockets of the United States. It awoke in him a lifelong love of travelling, and of learning. As a teen, he earned himself a scholarship to an illustrious prep school in New England - which is where he first got serious about old-time string band music. Ketch Secor and three other members of Old Crow Medicine Show dropped by CKUA's Edmonton studios just ahead of their headlining set at the 2023 Edmonton Folk Music Festival. They gathered around a single vintage microphone to share live renditions of two songs from Jubilee. Additionally, Ketch joins CKUA's Grant Stovel for an in-depth conversation that's just as wide-ranging, authentic, and full of delightful surprises as the band's music. The Hidden Track Podcast is produced by CKUA Radio and made possible by the generous contributions of our donors. Gary the Hate Camel presents a podcast with Tech, Kirk, Handy and Boom: Guests: MadamStarGazer (66), ocmsrzr, DukeTalan, Mr.GiggityGiggity (45) Topics Discussed: Apparently today we are Movie Talk, not Trek Talk. 0:00 - Eggs, coffee, craig hate, and ocm's calve fetish. 1:55 - Strange New Worlds and Orville talk! SNW was a trip, but a fun filler episode. Hint: a nebula is involved. Because a nebula is always involved. Why the heck do they go into nebula's to begin with? Do they WANT chaos? Starfleet is some weird chaotic good, lawful neutral mix. Oh, right, this isn't even discussed in the podcast so I'll shut up now. 7:37 - Speaking of your holodeck porn addiction, Ocm, we need to talk to you about these holoprograms you've been saving... 9:36 - Issues with old paint and prosthetic special effects. Think "Radium Girls". 14:15 - Can't find big men that act well? What, you don't think you could replace Pacino and DeNiro in Heat with Stallone and Schwarzenegger? Also lots of Dave Bautista talk. 17:14 - Also, how does Tom Cruise get cast as a tough guy? Seriously? 20:24 - Ocm is a filmography expert, and has an eye for tough women in movies, some good and some awful. Also, F Navy squeals. Now watch Dinner with Andrew, and Way of the Gun. 30:11 - Back to the Orville! We definitely didn't get off topic, what are you talking about? So...social issues in shows! 38:50 - Nichelle Nichols was unhappy being on Star Trek due to lines being cut due to complaints, and stayed due to MLK. 44:59 - We should all be striving for improvement. Also diction! Why has diction reduced so greatly? People need to read. 47:13 to 47:25ish we have some odd audio jumps 51:02 - Ocm is a very angry liberal! Oh boy, we're getting political!!! Why did I have to miss this one? 1:01:42 - Star Trek utopia cannot be achieved with all this bickering! Also TNG showed significant warts in the Federation! "Measure of a Man", anyone? 1:04:17 - Who here knows doomsday preppers? I mean... 1:07:23 - The Grasshopper and the Ant, a Pixar classic! ...but still talking doomsday prepping. 1:15:10 - STFC new galaxy tree research. It sucks. 1:18:01 - Ocms community manager issue, and the word cavalcade is used! Diction people, diction! 1:30:10 - Incursions, hear what some thought it would be! And boredom combined with discouragement around the G5 economy. 1:35:13 - Emortional support group! And Handy's recent game enjoyment struggles due to drama. Then back to incursions. 1:40:39 - The way to make incursions good is to not spend until they give us what we want! Ocm admits he's barely hanging in. 1:45:28 - Not a lot of players are above level 56 these days. 1:51:34 - Seems Jaylah shards drop at a 10% rate for swarmadas? Also I have an 85% borg away team chance and I get crits 50/50. So...yeah. And remember...spread the hate!
