Scribbler joins Talking Trek for a full creator showcase episode packed with Star Trek history, Hollywood stories, Star Trek: Prodigy memories, STFC discussion, and a whole lot of Epcot planning chaos. Shauna Benson talks about her journey from Disney cast member and IT work to Hollywood writing, her time on shows like The 100 and Star Trek: Prodigy, favorite Easter eggs, “Murder Planet,” Planet Larry, and what made Prodigy such a special on-ramp for new and lifelong Trek fans alike. Then we shift into Star Trek Fleet Command with a detailed conversation about Alliance Tournaments, rerolls, store strategy, monetized tasks, catch-up mechanics, mid-ops changes, G6/G7 progression, and what Scopely may need to rethink before Alliance Tournaments return. Finally, Scribbler helps the Talking Trek crew plan the upcoming Disney / Epcot IRL stream, including drinking around the world, park logistics, checkpoints, streaming rules, sunscreen survival, and what could possibly go wrong. This episode of Talking Trek was originally intended to be a livestream, not a traditional podcast recording. Because of that, the format is not perfectly “podcast clean” in every moment, with some live-chat interaction, stream chaos, and real-time gameplay mixed in. But the conversation around the Paragon Recruit event, officer sourcing, spending value, community frustration, and the broader direction of Star Trek Fleet Command was strong enough that we felt it deserved to be published for the podcast audience. DJz, Jules Verne, Matters, XeroGees, and the community dig into why the Paragon Recruit event felt so bad, how the 90-pull guarantee and diluted chest design landed with players, and why even spenders walked away feeling punished instead of rewarded. The show also explores the bigger question: is this just one bad event, or part of a larger reset in the STFC economy? Later in the show, the crew pivots into Duo Wave Defense strategy, updated crewing advice, real-time testing, officer sourcing choices, and the value of wave completion versus pushing too high too quickly. It is part breakdown, part therapy session, part teaching stream, and part “what in the actual galaxy is happening right now?” energy. 00:09 Stream opens with Ghost Energy, chat chaos, and pantsless tradition 05:31 DJz jokes about “proper communication” and a future heroic spend event 07:01 Xero's frustration and why even longtime players need a break 12:03 Xero explains what finally pushed him away from Fleet Command 20:43 DJz frames the night: community sound-off, teaching, and surviving together 21:34 Paragon Recruit warning: no current plan for the event to return 24:02 Why the Paragon chest concept was not the problem, but the bloat was 25:29 The awkward 90-pull guarantee math and why the spend felt intentional 32:19 Jules explains the Vengeance Is Mine dilemma and the Paragon trap 33:59 $350+ in value and still only halfway to Academy Doctor 35:01 Officer acquisition reset, or something far worse than a reset? 39:01 Community fear: are these changes pushing players out? 47:36 DJz shares the professional message he sent about recent STFC decisions 54:32 Paragon called out as vague, shiny, RNG-heavy, and “gambly” 56:01 Direct warning: Paragon was a single-run event, subject to change 57:38 Cadre Recruit preview and why it looks like the same mechanic again 01:06:43 Trying to find the positive: Alliance Tournament and Duo Wave Defense 01:12:16 The larger theory: new player resets, old player fatigue, and game direction 01:20:16 STFC is not shutting down, but it may be shaving life off itself 01:25:07 Revenue, whales, burnout, and whether top spenders are “acceptable casualties” 01:34:38 Wave Defense Battle Pass value and why some players may not need to panic 01:43:51 DJz admits this was not planned as a podcast, but the conversation is strong 01:50:38 DJz talks diversification, Pokemon Go Fest, and creator-life strategy 02:00:14 Why STFC is a different game now than veterans remember 02:09:59 Duo Wave Defense Part 2 begins with Jules Verne coaching strategy 02:20:00 Preparing DJz's first Duo Wave Defense run on Server 15 02:35:17 Which officer to choose from the Paragon guarantee, if you chase it 02:38:26 Target levels, ship choices, and why level 68s matter in Duo Waves 02:44:00 Protector placement, wave tricks, and old group-wave tactics 02:50:30 Live Duo Wave Defense run begins 02:58:22 Wave strategy: what to kill, what to ignore, and where hostiles spawn 03:07:27 Officer Laurels, future sourcing, and why Genesis may be worth chasing 03:08:06 Duo Wave Defense strategy wrap-up and lessons learned 03:14:07 Bonus chaos: cow video narration, documentaries, and post-show nonsense 03:20:02 Podcast outro for a livestream that unexpectedly became publishable
The April 30th arc day in Star Trek Fleet Command was… a lot. Battle passes went down, came back up, reset, went down again, players got compensation promises, research rollbacks hit 1,719 accounts, and the community started asking whether this was just a bug day or a full systems parade of gremlins in the Jeffries tubes. In this episode of Talking Trek Live, DJz, Griffin, Tarpy, Jules Verne, and the community break down what happened with the battle pass, why the research rollback mattered, whether Digit vs. Scopely responsibility changes the conversation, and what players should know about duo wave defense. Jules also brings the classroom energy with real duo wave defense testing, hypothermic decay math, repair drone mechanics, bugs found in the mode, and a deep dive into the new Paragon recruit math and value concerns. 01:03 Show open: the arc disaster begins 08:16 Stupid News returns to the chaos desk 16:28 DJz's missing Junkers and customer service comedy 23:40 Battle Pass Update: the sequel nobody ordered 31:01 Research rollback, 1,719 accounts, and why it had to happen 38:59 Were buildings and ships affected too? 46:00 “Oopsie poopsie,” exploit correction, and the missing undo button 52:04 Did the rollback break the battle pass? 57:18 70,000 battle pass points and the second relaunch problem 01:04:37 Why DJz is saying Digit instead of just Scopely 01:12:49 Scopely responsibility vs. Digit execution 01:19:00 Jules Verne enters with duo wave defense testing 01:27:00 Venari Ral, hypothermic decay, and repair drone mechanics 01:35:00 Duo wave maps, allowed hostiles, and carry-a-friend strategy 01:43:10 Duo wave defense takeaways and video intro chaos 01:51:00 Crew tweaks, impulse speed, and Griffin's squishy science lab 01:59:06 Paragon recruit value math begins 02:07:32 “Chance of nothing” and the $600 comparison 02:16:05 Paragon pools, rerolls, and the “guarantee” explained 02:24:01 Changing math, confusing sourcing, and final arc frustration 02:29:10 Closing thoughts, margarita math, and the end of the doozy
Talking Trek is back live with special guest Jason Vneck for a big community episode covering STFC's latest updates, the return of Vengeance Is Mine, Borg Sphere reactions, and the increasingly spicy conversation around Alliance Tournaments. The show starts with some classic live-show chaos as DJz and Griffin return from Idaho with stories, jokes, and one truly unhinged Ghost energy haul before settling into a fun and thoughtful conversation with Jason about content creation, Twitch growth, podcast milestones, and how communities form around Star Trek Fleet Command. From there, the episode dives into the game itself: Borg Sphere impressions, ship utility, artifacts, store issues, officer value, and how newer content is landing with players across different ops ranges. There is also some great Star Trek lore discussion mixed in, especially around the Borg, First Contact, and Voyager. The second half of the show is a deep dive into the future of Alliance Tournaments, including the announced sunset of alliance rerolls, the broader in-game economy, free-to-play strategy, tournament balance, Temporal Disruptors, and whether STFC is heading toward a full tournament refresh. If you enjoy long-form STFC discussion with community perspective, game analysis, and a little live-show gremlin energy, this is a great episode to catch. #StarTrekFleetCommand #STFC #TalkingTrek #StarTrek #BorgSphere #AllianceTournaments #JasonVneck 00:59 Live show kickoff and server sound-off 03:48 Jason Vneck joins the stage and the show setup begins 05:46 Idaho travel stories, Ghost energy loot, and airport suitcase chaos 12:26 Griffin and Jason discover a wild Fry's Electronics connection 14:16 Twitch Partner Plus talk and community support update 17:54 Talking Trek celebrates episode #600 hitting the podcast feed 24:30 Jason shares when he started playing STFC and his server history 25:58 Mid-ops discussion and ideas for helping newer players on older servers 30:23 First impressions of the Borg Sphere and mixed player reactions 33:23 Borg Cube utility, Sphere grind, and how players adapted to the new ship 40:02 Store navigation headaches and bounty pack talk 48:01 Borg fandom chat, First Contact callbacks, and Voyager changing the Borg 56:30 Alliance Tournaments announcement and the end of alliance rerolls 01:06:20 DJs breaks down the in-game economy and why tournament changes may be coming 01:13:41 Temporal Disruptors, material spending, and the debate over “broken” scoring 01:20:23 Could Alliance Tournaments become bigger, newer, and more rewarding? 01:36:54 Maverick tasks defended as some of the best recent content in STFC 02:05:10 What is actually breaking tournaments, and what players may not want to lose 02:22:38 Ops progression vs. lower-level support in tournament design 02:37:53 Paywall versus slow grind: defining the difference in modern STFC 02:49:20 Final thoughts from Jason Vneck and community sendoff 02:50:43 Bonus LEGO Enterprise stream plug and closing sign-off
The recording for this Talking in Carz episode starts a few minutes into the show, but once it kicks in, DJz and Jules go deep on Arcfall launch day, the new Borg Sphere loop, and the real math behind blueprint acquisition in Star Trek Fleet Command. This episode breaks down how the new hostile mechanics work, why killing hostiles without the Sphere does not really help progression, and how the Sphere's tasks and Maverick-credit rewards are designed to scale over time. DJz and Jules also tackle the biggest hot-button topic of the launch: blueprint cost, free-to-play timelines, and the hard choices players now have to make between Dive Bar upgrades, research, officers, and Sphere progress. They also cover Suppressors vs. Obliterators, forbidden tech, Chaos Tech, new refits, artifacts, epic Maverick credits, and why the Sphere is best understood as a loop-focused ship rather than an all-purpose monster. Along the way, they share the strategy advice players need most on day one, including when to prioritize Dive Bar 20, when Dive Bar 30 may actually be smarter, and why Jules' calculator is so important for planning your path. If you're trying to figure out whether the Borg Sphere is worth chasing, how long free-to-play acquisition may really take, and what matters most in Arcfall right now, this episode is your roadmap. #StarTrekFleetCommand #STFC #Arcfall #BorgSphere #TalkingTrek #TalkingInCarz #Scopely #STFCStrategy #MaverickFaction #StarTrek 00:00 First Contact event hype and exclusive real-life rewards 00:01:04 Recording picks up mid-show and the informal live-only format begins 00:01:34 Can players kill new hostiles without the Sphere? 00:02:55 Burning vs. hypothermic decay and the round-one kill loophole 00:04:07 Suppressors vs. Obliterators and early punch-up possibilities 00:04:42 The blueprint-cost debate and why players will have to choose 00:06:18 Best early priorities: Dive Bar 20, key research, then blueprints 00:08:15 How long it should take newer Ops 55 players to reach Dive Bar 20 00:09:05 Punch-down strategy for solo armada milestones and weekly credit math 00:11:24 Blueprint pricing, weekly returns, and the long breakeven conversation 00:14:45 Is the Borg Sphere paywalled content or a grind-to-unlock feature? 00:16:35 Why players are frustrated with a path that could stretch beyond 100 days 00:18:43 How Sphere tasks stack and improve Maverick-credit income over time 00:21:04 Why regular Maverick credits may eventually become surplus 00:23:34 Jules' calculator and planning your credit-spend priorities 00:25:30 Behind-the-scenes pushback that got blueprint costs lowered 00:28:19 Forbidden tech, Chaos Tech, and what actually comes with the ship 00:31:03 Why Suppressors matter now and Obliterators are a later-game accelerator 00:33:17 Is Scopely experimenting with long free-to-play unlock timelines? 00:36:42 Zephyr and Cochrane shard events plus First Contact Day meta 00:38:36 Free refits, instant jump, and whether Assimilate Sting matters 00:40:01 New artifacts, epic Maverick credits, and who they're really for 00:42:12 What non-buyers will still be doing this month in the Maverick loop 00:43:56 Final verdict: the Sphere is a loop-only ship, not an all-rounder 00:45:00 Preview of tonight's follow-up stream and lab testing plans

Talking Trek goes deep on the newest Star Trek Fleet Command updates with a full breakdown of Infinite Incursions, the new PvP banding changes, and the latest CoTA reveal. DJz and the panel tackle the controversial removal of base raiding from server-vs-server incursion scoring, debate whether the new system will actually improve PvP, and explain why Klingon Armada scoring may be dead on arrival if cloaking stays untouched. Along the way, the show also covers the March community survey, shifted incursion timing, and why player reactions are all over the map. The back half of the episode turns toward interim scheduling, clearer event communication, and the reveal of Zephram Cochrane for CoTA. DJz reacts positively to the improved roadmap visibility, breaks down the new arc cadence, and explains why knowing future launch windows is a big win for both players and creators. In this episode of Talking Trek, we break down week one of the new Maverick faction in Star Trek Fleet Command and talk through what changed between playtest and live launch. DJ, Tarpy, and Jules Vern dive into the Conqueror Borg solo armadas, the target stat changes, the directive controversy, and why communication around the launch left a lot of players frustrated. We also cover the big strategic question of the week: should you chase loot or focus on tasks? Using live examples and calculator math, the crew explains why Maverick progression is driven much more by alliance milestones and solo tasks than by raw loot pulls from lower targets. If you're trying to decide whether to punch down, push higher targets, or build around alliance scoring, this episode has the breakdown. On top of that, the show touches on the new roadmap, the increasing focus on alliance-based gameplay, and what that means for both large and small alliances going forward. There's also practical advice on Maverick building priorities, when to invest in research, and how to time your task claims so you don't waste a 7-day cooldown. Finally, the back half includes crewing discussion for different ops ranges, live target tests, and a look at which task paths actually pay the best. If you're trying to get the most out of the Maverick faction this month, this is the episode to watch. #StarTrekFleetCommand #STFC #MaverickFaction #TalkingTrek #Scopely #BorgArmadas #STFCGuide #STFCMaverick 1:20 — Show open and episode overview: Maverick faction, Conqueror Borg solo armadas, roadmap, crewing, and weekend events are introduced. 25:49 — Main Maverick discussion begins with Jules Verne joining the show to break down the faction and new armadas. 27:21 — What changed before launch: playtest vs. live release, balance changes, and “subject to change” discussion. 36:38 — Target rebalance debate: original stats vs. updated stats, why the level 55 entry target changed, and whether it should have remained a tutorial target. 40:53 — Core strategy pivot: why loot is less important than first assumed, and why higher-target kills matter more for alliance task progression and Maverick credits. 42:19 — Alliance scoring explained: punching down for loot can hurt team progression compared with hitting the biggest target you can reliably clear. 44:23 — Roadmap / design direction: discussion of GM Conor's post and the game's stronger push toward alliance-based progression. 54:34 — Math on alliance milestones: what it would take for a full alliance to finish the top milestone and thoughts on whether future milestone expansion would help. 1:07:52 — Maverick task rewards breakdown: why the top two tasks matter most and how the payouts compare to the lower tasks. 1:48:39 — Crewing recommendations: bridge choices, below-deck priorities, crit setup, and how to think about forbidden tech / slipstream for these armadas. 2:30:13 — Live test results: a level 72 example shows sustainable wins and why raw loot looks appealing but still does not beat task-based progression. 2:31:00 — Store economics: the Maverick store only has one loot-purchased chest, and its value is minor compared with task rewards. 2:38:54 — Best progression path: rush building level 20, unlock the top solo task, then decide whether to push building or research based on what targets you can clear. 2:40:38 — Important warning: the level 20 task bundle has a 7-day cooldown, so timing your claim matters.

Gary the Hate Camel presents a podcast with Tech, Kirk, Handy and Boom: Guests: DonaldTrump (34), MadamStarGazer (66), Tolstoy, DukeTalan (45) List of notable things: 0:08 - Reminder off the top how S45 beat up on S34, and then some real incursions talk on scoring. 5:48 - Getting invaded during your BYE week...then back to 45 vs 34 and the scoring mechanics. 13:48 - Boom scored 3/4ths the points of all of S34. 15:59 - The cost vs reward analysis, and also server population, really impacts how incursions play out. 21:10 - One big cannot stop a raid. A big can break incursions by being cracked, but they can't make incursions. Even if they can crack other bigs, you still need a big to get cracked which goes back to a big can break things. A whale cannot make incursions though, plain and simple. 25:48 - Ocm got wrecked by Techman16! 27:14 - Let's talk about grinding crews! Nerrrrrrrrrrd time! 39:13 - Small nugget, Lower Decks arc was supposed to be 2 months and it got shortened to 1. Womp womp. And some Ferengi and mining hate. 40:54 - Some Feesha love (it's real name is Fajita). 44:57 - Meta orientation? Know your mitigation floor and ceiling! 48:21 - Self-burn, and porn-Mudd? 50:37 - Let's talk diminishing returns kids, because math is fun!!! 52:27 - StrangeKirk nods off learning about officers, and Tolstoy fails to follow through. Shame. Shame. Shame. 54:07 - More shame! Watch Lower Decks damnit! But first, a raiding anecdote. 56:35 - Ok, now to actual Lower Decks talk, and TOS Mudd ruled! 1:02:42 - Denise Crosby leaving TNG: hot gossip, definitely not decades old news, and some other TNG talk. 1:05:07 - TNG: when hamburger helper goes wrong. And then just talk about Star Trek in general covering the different series. 1:13:15 - Direct attack on earth in Enterprise, killing millions, and digging a trench from Florida to Venezuala. Say what now? THEY SHOT US IN THE DICK! But apparently Star Trek Enterprise is really good! 1:20:29 - Oh yeah, Picard is a thing! Season 2 apparently is awful. 1:25:31 - Let's trash on Star Wars and the Death Star some! 1:29:42 - Riker being horny as a security concern, and general Starfleet security failures. 1:32:25 - Join us to talk about the good stuff! Mammaries, double dicks, butt stuble, and armpit fucking... And remember...spread the hate! Hosts: StrangeKirk, Handy Guests: UltimateDJz (15), DragonKeeper (52), JimmJones, Trojan, Sloterer, SARRescueRanger, DonaldTrump (34), Stratalorian(9), MadamStarGazer (66) List of notable things: 0:00 - DJz interview starts, and he is aggravated about the game! 2:26 - Monetizing content is ok, for example the Dukat officer purchase model. 5:06 - Frustrations with the time now required from the game to stay on par (grinding). 15:56 - DJz thinks people would riot if Scopely didn't release new content one month. I think if Scopely said they were going to address a list of meaningful bugs we've all been complaining about, as well as address some gameplay improvements we've been clamoring for, not only would we not riot we would throw Scopely a fucking party! There are a lot of players that would like to put more money into their bases or ships as well, and never can because they're all but forced to invest in whatever the latest content is. A gap month would not cause Scopely any undue fiscal or "social contract" harm IF they were upfront about what they wanted to address and those things are items that players care about. /rant 18:40 - How about we look at long existing events and loot tables!!! 27:24 - Ty'Gokor is a bug, it was never meant to be the way it is. 29:31 - Scopely ignores too many things for too long. And speaking of, if Scopely encouraged us to not save up forever, we'd spend what we've held onto and probably buy more packs as well. And if there wasn't an Arc, instead put up older content items and let people buy those. Or to encourage spending boost station and ship packs with an extra 10% mats that month. People will buy, and you're not breaking the bank on that it's a small boost that will buy them the time to do game improvements that people will truly appreciate, while still making their money that they want to make. 36:30 - Simplify things by, for example, allowing the new content to satisfy faction dailies. You're destroying another faction! Consolidate these grinds, which doesn't really encourage spending anyways. 41:35 - Scopely needs to listen a little more to the people that are tied into the player base. 43:25 - Questions and Answers with DJz from the audience (listen up, there's some fun questions in here). Huh. Guess I'm fucked! 59:00 - Friends having each others back no matter what isn't a friendship, it is a cultist mercenary blind loyalty situation, and throughout history these have not been positive. 1:01:21 - Boom DOES appreciate it! Orville is now streaming on Disney+ so you are running out of excuses for not watching it! Spoilers ahead! 12:54 - Craig barfs the audio for about 13 seconds, our apologies! Still talking Orville though! 17:46 - Conflict over the past few days around trying to call out mental illness. Not ok. And if a referee tells you to stop, you stop, it's not that hard. 23:55 - JustJoel is an alliance mate of the person booted, and apparently that guy is a real unpleasant individual. 26:26 - And back to the Orville!!! We can't quit it! 29:12 - Sometimes you have to stir drinks in an unorthodox manner... And some beer talk, because some people love yak piss. And how beer now has as many variants as weed does, because some people appear to also be hippies. Yes, Boom hates beer and weed, get over it. Give me a real drink and STFU. 38:17 - On to STFC talk, and the next upcoming incursions! S45 got paired against S49, which has a lot more power than S45. 50:30 - Everyone is glad that for incursions our opponents are being rotated! 56:08 - Tech can't kill a capital trader in Kronos with his Augur unless he hits it multiple times. For shame! 1:07:20 - Treachery and treason in incursions! Wait...doesn't this all seem really familiar? Like we covered it last week? :eyes: 1:13:24 - It's odd that aggressive alliances don't go all-in on incursions. 1:14:30 - What we do when someone rolls into our territory and hits one of our bases? We actually DON'T go crack every base out there just because someone hit a base in our territory. Unless it's during the actual territory defense time, in which case it's straight to war do not pass go. NONA is...less aggressive, and shit is about to go off the rails! 1:15:45 - We have some serious underlying Parzival frustration here! 1:20:57 - Parzival explains his issue with Pho3nix and Pho3nix explains his side. And calm, respectful conversations are Handy's hope...has he never BEEN on the internet before? 1:26:34 - Ocm, by the transitive property, hates women. And Parzival and Pho3nix both work with very difficult people, so the combativeness is weird to Techman. 1:32:16 - Techman asks if Parzival can unblock Pho3nix for 5 minutes, Parzival declines. He has come to a conclusion about Pho3nix, so he doesn't need to know anything else. Personally, this seems a little shortsighted, but I don't know what happened so maybe it makes complete sense? 1:36:55 - Duel with Parrots at dawn! Because WTF is normal, anyways? 1:41:11 - Is it more exhausting to be accepting and move on, or to be angry and hold a grudge? For me, it's hard to always turn the other cheek, it's easier to hate people for their shortcomings. 1:46:48 - Mongo just pawn in great game of life. 1:49:43 - If you haven't thought about murdering someone, you haven't loved them. 1:50:33 - Boom does something many should have done much earlier during this podcast, and pleads the 5th. But the PvP areas were a problem, people didn't show. 46:23 - When you're destroyed, you lose everything beyond your protected cargo. It's a win for Scopely! 50:44 - Incursion improvement, devalue the raiding? I personally prefer the raiding, most fun, so wow! 53:18 - The SMS is a real problem, too much cowardice! 55:34 - Make no mistake, incursions was a lot of fun, it reminded several of us of the game when it was fun. AKA Territory hate! 1:02:33 - Techman wants drama. DRAMAAAAA! Traitors abound, hang them for high treason!!! 1:09:40 - It isn't over until it's over Shimanzu! 1:17:41 - Techman asks the real question! And not supporting your server; 98% of the people playing the event just want their server versus the other server, so when you keep your internal server issues going you're just saying F-you to 98% of your server because you have to make it all about you. 1:19:41 - Do we think people will just start turtling and not getting involved in incursions due to the cost vs payout? 1:26:08 - Gator's server 28 experience for incursions! And remember...spread the hate! Gary the Hate Camel presents a podcast with Tech, Kirk, and Handy: Guests: Stratalorian (9), RisingPhoenix (14), DariusRex, TwistedEvil (34) Topics Discussed: 00:23 - Out of the gate with Strange New Worlds and Captain Kirk talk (StrangeKirk feels he sucks, and I agree that his energy feels off). 7:00 - Tech feels the writing staff did a poor job in the SNW finale, made Pike look like an awful captain, Handy disagrees. 12:30 - Ground control to Major StrangeKirk (he spaced out)? Anyways, back to SNW. 13:54 - SNW Spock vs TOS Spock, and how Spock's current outbursts renders his small facial cues irrelevant compared to TOS Spock. 18:44 - SNW didn't end on a great note, though the show is good overall, just not a great season finale. And if you come into SNW having not seen TOS then it stands up better. 22:08 - What is Kirk's past in the prime timeline? 26:07 - How about this shitty STFC game? Incursions. 32:42 - RisingPhoenix notes they added CS reps and support staff before incursions which doesn't bode well. 35:47 - Techman16 wonders if you'll be able to PM players on the other server during incursions. The answer is yes. I speak from the fuuuuutuuuurrrrrrrreee! 39:29 - Someone from 34 is trying to recruit players from server 31. That's...not how that works. 43:00 - People would clamor for a baby Jellyfish! And ISS Jellyfish talk. 49:50 - Darius gives his incursion take, and Techman16 is adorably optimistic about their chances (they do not win). 51:30 - Back to Orville talk! Excellent sci-fi according to Techman16 and Darius. 53:07 - Techman16 needs to know why Handy thought Babylon 5 is bad? And then Darius says some stupid, stupid, stupid stuff about Firefly. 59:15 - We'll talk Orville next week, but also...right now! And Seth Macfarlane is clearly a sci-fi nerd. And Boom does NOT edit that out. 1:01:51 - Thoughts on SNW's Kirk from Darius, and the SNW finale 'Balance of Error'. 1:08:12 - Handy and StrangeKirk bail when the nerd talk happens. 1:08:55 - StrangeKirk is a porn snob, and Techman16 feels the Star Trek porn really pays homage to the original series. Should have seen THAT coming. 1:10:33 - Things are becoming clearer... 1:15:05 - Please explain 'carefully ethnic'. And no, Boom is not cutting this part out. 1:18:36 - But there ARE rules here! And more more more sci-fi shows talk. 1:26:03 - Bob Lazar is a good interview, and Joe Rogan has a good interview with him (it's worth it even if you HATE Joe Rogan). 1:31:04 - Tech and Darius do NOT confuse me, though I wonder if we're more likely to generate a 'warp field' by rather than simply counteracting gravity, counteracting most of it by identifying how (presupposing it exists) we counter the impact of dark matter. Given that we are relatively certain there is something non-luminous granting significant mass (and therefore gravity). And while we're at it, why do people always screw up infinity? It's the Rick and Morty effect, they say infinite universes and then "in some of those there's..." and begin to reduce it down to "we can do this a few times". But infinity is infinite, it does not reduce. Therefore if there are infinite universes then instead of "in some of those there's..." it should be "in infinite of those there's...". Also, you guys are fucking nerds. 1:31:42 - Slight audio hiccup, so please like and subscribe to our podcast and leave a nice rating! And watch Orville so they make a season 4!!! Gary the Hate Camel presents a podcast with Tech, Kirk, Handy and Boom: Guests: MadamStarGazer (66), PoorCoercion (60), ocmsrzr (45), DonaldTrump (34) Topics Discussed: 0:00 - The energy vampire show! 3:03 - Gotta get them caffeine spa treatments! 5:56 - Why people listen to us, and a challenge has been issued! Stir that mac-n-cheese! 8:25 - Handy brings some S34 news! Don't worry, it's not a big deal, and 3 months late now. 9:17 - Conspiracy theories, because people need to believe their hate is justified. 11:58 - Callback to the stir that mac-n-cheese button, but Handy isn't having it. 12:53 - Picard talk. It's too long for the story. 14:42 - Some Prodigy talk. Also Star Trek Enterprise season 4 gets a big endorsement from Techman. 17:22 - And then...X-Men the Animated Series and Spider Man the Animated Series talk? 23:40 - StrangeKirk's rest stop, aka "pickle park", story told second hand(y). 27:49 - STFC talk, and broken cross-server armada leaderboards. 29:03 - Techman...knows a little too much about porn. 32:24 - Trek Talk now reads from Urban Dictionary... *Picard Facepalm* 36:02 - STFC lapdogs. 39:42 - Account selling followup, and the value of the game to some. 46:36 - Sarcophagus regrets! Don't buy it!!! 51:11 - Techman16 should reroll on S45! 53:37 - Techman16 asks the important questions on smuggling. 54:52 - STFC Arc talk and the positive parts of the lower decks (mission dialogue)! 58:59 - Alliances get in trouble when 1 or 2 people run the show and nobody else is involved. 1:02:34 - Evil Badgey "as a playable character"? Say what huh? 1:04:38 - HALO on Paramount talk. And Boom explains the history of Bungie very incorrectly! Bungie was first, 343 was Microsoft, then Microsoft spun Bungie back off but retained 343. Halo 2 and 3 were released under Microsoft. 1:14:34 - DS9 and grind? Nope, TNG for you! And some Voyager talk too. 1:18:14 - TNG is hypocritical in several ways. 1:21:09 - I got 99 problems and Borg inconsistencies are one of them. 1:24:04 - Have the Borg assimilate Burnham, then they'll all rust from crying over nothing constantly. 1:24:37 - I seen bad reboots arizin', I see bad scifi on the way... 1:28:32 - HP Lovecraft reference! Boy, was THAT guy racist or what? 1:29:25 - If I knew when I was dying, I would feel unburdened to do all the terrible things that need doing. And cocaine. 1:32:22 - So, what did we learn today? Gary the Hate Camel presents a podcast with Kirk, Handy and Boom: Guests: Stratalorian (9), ocmsrzr, Tolstoy, itmaybeokay (45) Topics Discussed: 0:27 - First order of business is...how Handy makes coffee. Also ocm is late to the SNW party. 4:24 - Handy is still making coffee. Also war on S34? Screenshotting and revisionist history? 10:37 - War in STFC is funner when your enemby takes it personally. Plus they show their true colors. 13:45 - Too much emotional investment in STFC? 19:40 - Does it matter, ultimately, why war was declared? And don't just boot a player immediately for causing war! 24:40 - XBox live lobby is NOT the bar to which we are trying to lower ourselves to. 28:23 - The rejection of reality, and self-righteousness. 33:24 - Sometimes people just need a bad guy to dislike. 37:10 - More gamers need to play sports to understand than an opponent need not be an ideological conflict. 40:09 - In conclusion, DARK is the worst and everyone should hate them. 40:59 - On to regular Star Trek talk! Why the hard-on for the Gorn in Strange New Worlds? 45:55 - Gorn, the one alien that didn't get turned on by Kirk, apparently. 47:29 - Why did Kirk not know anything about the Gorn given how big an impact they are having in SNW? Just like why when Kirk ran into Khan did Spock (who served with La'an) not mention how dangerous augments are? 52:02 - Did, uh, did you get my voicemail about the Gorn? 54:41 - Why, in Star Trek, are starships so easy to hijack? Lock the damn door! Noonien Singh, Noonien Soong, names are hard! And put on a damn seatbelt! 58:51 - Discovery isn't unpopular? No accounting for taste, I suppose... 1:00:29 - Pike is the greatest captain of all time, according to Ocm. 1:02:04 - How is Starfleet SO bad at shooting phasers accurately? Pointing is hard! And flashlights are harder. 1:06:16 - The real costs of the Treaty of Algernon. 1:09:56 - The proud naval tradition of mutiny! The reason most are generally unarmed on a ship. 1:11:31 - SNW fairy tale episode was a lot of fun! 1:13:53 - Audience participation! Seriously, come join us, slackers. 1:15:40 - Latest Orville episode with some gender identity crisis. Solid episode, but many feel the first season episode covered it better. 1:26:16 - Wrapping up Orville talk, still a good show absolutely worth watching. 1:27:13 - StrangeKirk leaves to write erotic fan fiction of Spock and Nurse Chapel. 1:27:53 - For All Mankind is possibly a good show to watch? And remember...spread the hate! Gary the Hate Camel presents a podcast with Tech, Kirk, Handy and Boom: Guests: MadamStarGazer (66), ocmsrzr, DukeTalan, Mr.GiggityGiggity (45) Topics Discussed: Apparently today we are Movie Talk, not Trek Talk. 0:00 - Eggs, coffee, craig hate, and ocm's calve fetish. 1:55 - Strange New Worlds and Orville talk! SNW was a trip, but a fun filler episode. Hint: a nebula is involved. Because a nebula is always involved. Why the heck do they go into nebula's to begin with? Do they WANT chaos? Starfleet is some weird chaotic good, lawful neutral mix. Oh, right, this isn't even discussed in the podcast so I'll shut up now. 7:37 - Speaking of your holodeck porn addiction, Ocm, we need to talk to you about these holoprograms you've been saving... 9:36 - Issues with old paint and prosthetic special effects. Think "Radium Girls". 14:15 - Can't find big men that act well? What, you don't think you could replace Pacino and DeNiro in Heat with Stallone and Schwarzenegger? Also lots of Dave Bautista talk. 17:14 - Also, how does Tom Cruise get cast as a tough guy? Seriously? 20:24 - Ocm is a filmography expert, and has an eye for tough women in movies, some good and some awful. Also, F Navy squeals. Now watch Dinner with Andrew, and Way of the Gun. 30:11 - Back to the Orville! We definitely didn't get off topic, what are you talking about? So...social issues in shows! 38:50 - Nichelle Nichols was unhappy being on Star Trek due to lines being cut due to complaints, and stayed due to MLK. 44:59 - We should all be striving for improvement. Also diction! Why has diction reduced so greatly? People need to read. 47:13 to 47:25ish we have some odd audio jumps 51:02 - Ocm is a very angry liberal! Oh boy, we're getting political!!! Why did I have to miss this one? 1:01:42 - Star Trek utopia cannot be achieved with all this bickering! Also TNG showed significant warts in the Federation! "Measure of a Man", anyone? 1:04:17 - Who here knows doomsday preppers? I mean... 1:07:23 - The Grasshopper and the Ant, a Pixar classic! ...but still talking doomsday prepping. 1:15:10 - STFC new galaxy tree research. It sucks. 1:18:01 - Ocms community manager issue, and the word cavalcade is used! Diction people, diction! 1:30:10 - Incursions, hear what some thought it would be! And boredom combined with discouragement around the G5 economy. 1:35:13 - Emortional support group! And Handy's recent game enjoyment struggles due to drama. Then back to incursions. 1:40:39 - The way to make incursions good is to not spend until they give us what we want! Ocm admits he's barely hanging in. 1:45:28 - Not a lot of players are above level 56 these days. 1:51:34 - Seems Jaylah shards drop at a 10% rate for swarmadas? Also I have an 85% borg away team chance and I get crits 50/50. So...yeah. And remember...spread the hate! Hosts: Techman16, StrangeKirk, Handy, Boomslang Guests: MadamStarGazer (66), vreddy (196) Topics Discussed: 0:24 - Tpring is hot! 2:16 - Who is more conniving, T'Pring or T'Pring? ...what? 3:31 - Handy has a deer problem, and SK has a very suspicious reference to how if every time you go to a house your ass hurts you'll eventually stop going to that house. 7:44 - Sex with T'Pring? Good, or passionless? 11:26 - Aaaaaaaaand, more tentacle porn! Fanfiction is weird. Also, use that 220V outlet or you're doing it wrong. 13:58 - Orville talk! We still like it, though this one was a bit...odd. But he hangs out by the bleachers! 24:15 - What's good in STFC? Nada. But the SNW crew is definitely for PVE not PVP, and the officers are kind of...odd. 33:30 - The application of Rom on bases. 37:53 - Mining is hard! 41:40 - Don't burn yourself out! 44:08 - Scopely is conflating our desire for something different, with more. They're giving us more stuff to do, but it's all the same boring stuff. 45:08 - Diablo talk? 48:18 - Boredom gets people involved in frivolous and silly things. 51:43 - STFC idea: create open armadas, where any alliance can join them. Also, we still want the "start now" armada button! 55:58 - Back in the day, a Wednesday, people are still asshats about armadas. 59:16 - Make ALB rewards participation based; you get the % that you contribute. 1:04:37 - It's a moot point, here's your consolation prize. 1:05:53 - Let us recycle old blueprints and delete random shit we don't need anymore! 1:07:41 - There used to be G4 Common ships that weren't faction ships, and we miss those, stop forcing factions! 1:09:58 - Also, introduce new factions! Cardassians, Ferengi, etc. 1:11:32 - Boom is going Dominion faction! 1:12:33 - As long as whales spend, Scopely has no incentive to make improvements. And remember...spread the hate! Pastor Bill: [0:00] Hello and welcome to season 3 episode 62 of The Berean Manifesto; Faith, Hope, and Love for the Modern Christian. I'm Pastor Bill and I'm joined by Pastor Newms the ever wonderful bearded one who wears beanies or hats most of the time I see you still have your tree up back there but it doesn't have any light. Pastor Newms: [0:31] It's actually pretty lit but we're not going to talk about that we took the balls off. Christmas tree is still up yeah I mean there's part of me that's like it's a black Christmas tree do I really take it down. You know I joked about in the past I had a tall skinny one that wasn't a real tree it was one of those that just like Circle down and looked all funny I talked about leaving that one up all year round. But now we've lost it somewhere in our garage which is crazy because our garage is not that big but I'm not sure how we lost it. Hello Phoenix. Pastor Bill: [1:34] So if you're listening to this podcast and you're new to The Berean Manifesto, we record live every Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. Central Standard Time or at least when life doesn't throw us curveballs and sometimes we don't record but when we release new episodes they are recorded live ahead. So we recorded this one but we do it with a live audience or we invite a live audience we have some regulars that join us. Biggs, thank you for being here. Phoenix, thank you for being here. Perhaps Groggy will come in later. He comes in from time to time to say hello and basically what we want to do is Foster an environment where there can be interaction. You don't have to interact if you don't want to. Chime in and say anything but if you wanted to then you could catch this live on Twitch YouTube. Like I said on Sunday nights where we go live and then you can just participate in the chat you know with your little keyboard or on your phone and be a part of the conversation that's going on sometimes we get off of topic but we've always. Like tonight's episode is called at the well and so we're gonna try to stay on topic in steer into that as much as possible but don't know, sometimes sometimes we go different directions so yeah how was your week Pastor Newms. Pastor Newms: [3:15] Our work is pretty good work is real busy right now it's a little crazy, my girls ended up sick this week so that was fun they were home for multiple days we've got. Streaming we did throughout the week streaming Borderlands and we did we're still at war in Star Trek so you know just a little bit of everything. Pastor Bill: [3:51] My week was good yeah I did some art for our streaming stuff. That was fun it was good to get back into Photoshop and illustrator and get some stuff done in there and. Pastor Newms: [4:10] Make our titles prettier and our. Pastor Bill: [4:14] Yeah we can't use the same little characters though because yours is all like. Pastor Newms: [4:20] Yeah like I don't normally look on every Sunday just say. Pastor Bill: [4:22] Only after I only have two eyes. Pastor Newms: [4:25] I almost I almost switched I almost switched just mine I didn't tell you. Pastor Bill: [4:34] I know that I wouldn't see it because what you send me has your title. Pastor Newms: [4:38] You would but it would be it would be funny because I could get out it would just be like wait did you change mine know why cause you're just the wrong size mines the correct size. Pastor Bill: [4:50] No oh yeah it is because of. Pastor Newms: [4:56] We only see part of the word Pastor if we use the same one. Well I could just shrink it but my name would be like twice your size even though our pictures are different so but yes. Pastor Bill: [5:12] All right so that was my week my work is great. I really have anything else to share about my week. Did a couple airport runs that was fun a regular customer that calls me for Uber rides and then my aunt was going out of town, so I needed to airport runs this week and then my wife had an airport run for my cousin on Friday evening so buddy airport runs this week going on three is a bunch. Sure all right well without further. Pastor Newms: [5:53] More times than I went to the airport this week. Pastor Bill: [5:55] It is time for Getting To Know The Pastors and this week it is a card from Pastor Newms from his pack that his wife and sister bought him, some event I can't remember what it was Biggs on Twitch asks if it was Love Field or Dallas-Fort Worth Airport and all three trips were Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. Why is that sad? Pastor Newms: [6:26] Huh. Pastor Bill: [6:28] Totally like 20 minutes difference and the Dallas when you got to get into Dallas traffic and little. Pastor Newms: [6:35] You really do all right you ready. Pastor Bill: [6:40] Or I should I should say the Love Field one you have to get into Dallas traffic. Pastor Newms: [6:46] We're going to end up pulling another card probably but maybe not, “If you could hear a speech from any leading figure in any field what would you choose to hear?” Pastor Bill: [6:59] I've always wanted to and you didn't you don't mean a recording of it, you mean. Pastor Newms: [7:05] Right live here speech. Pastor Bill: [7:06] Be there live yeah I've always wanted and I feel like that card was destined to be pulled today. I've always wanted to attend the “I Have a Dream” speech for Martin Luther King jr. Pastor Newms: [7:27] Okay. Pastor Bill: [7:28] I've always wanted to attend it I've heard I'd rather recording multiple times and it always moves me with emotions, always every time it never loses any of its. Any of its power and so I've always wanted to attend that live. So that was an easy one for me. Pastor Newms: [7:54] Yeah we really was and. Pastor Bill: [8:02] Then the reason I feel like that was you know destined is because tomorrow's the man's holiday. Pastor Newms: [8:08] Yes yeah tomorrow is yeah I don't I can't think of anything that's like I want to hear this speech, I can't think of anything that's pressing in my mind there's probably some technical lectures I would really enjoy but there's a couple of you know, the tech ones that happened throughout the country and Nations each year I'd love to travel to a bunch of those and just hear experts that actually have passions for their games actually talked about developing them and stuff live as opposed to just recorded but. Pastor Bill: [9:04] So nothing like the Gettysburg address or Sermon on the Mount or. Pastor Newms: [9:15] See I took it to mean a living person but it didn't specify that. Yeah, it didn't specify living or dead but. Pastor Bill: [9:28] I can't think of one single person alive today that I would want to go listen to just talk. Pastor Newms: [9:35] I can think of a couple of leaders in business and stuff that I would actually attend a lecture on but my thing is I get the same enjoyment normally. For the speech aspect in just watching it I'm not a person who needs to be in person I prefer everything to be. Pastor Bill: [9:58] I thought of one Craig Groeschel retelling the story of the first time he gave a sermon. In that, United Methodist I think it was and they were wearing the robes and all that all those details that's a great story if I could arrange to have him read tell me that story face to face, I would want to do that, they go a living person. Pastor Newms: [10:29] So Gran sent me a private message in Star Trek and he has a he has a good one, which is Neil DeGrasse Tyson on interstellar theory in the scope of the universe, and I could see that one that's one of those technical ones that I really think I would enjoy, because it's always interesting to hear those people especially ones like Neil deGrasse Tyson who is so passionate and so well-articulated, in because some scientist sadly are not. Pastor Bill: [11:06] I'm not a fan of Neil DeGrasse Tyson but only because you know how some people inexplicably urk me, something about their mannerisms something about attitude I don't know I did he just doesn't eat kind of don't know something about him just is off-putting so I'm not a fan. Pastor Newms: [11:29] You're like that with a lot of people. Pastor Bill: [11:31] Am I okay. Pastor Newms: [11:32] Yeah but that's okay I mean you have your opinions but there's a lot of like YouTubers. Pastor Bill: [11:41] Oh yeah, I mean I'll just say it, RevDuece. I can't watch any of RevDueces videos. A guy that makes content for Star Trek Fleet Command, I just can't watch them I get I get like 30 seconds then I'm like I'm done I'm done I can't even I can't make it any further. Pastor Newms: [11:56] And a lot of my SCP videos and stuff you're like I can't listen to that person I almost fell asleep I don't like that person that way that person speaks is terri… you know it's like okay no I got. Pastor Bill: [12:07] I finished watching the expanse right so that five seasons, there's just one character I kept rooting for them to kill off because she intentionally speaks in this low gravelly voice and every time she talks all I can mentally process is, why that voice why is this character still alive why can't I get over her voice. Pastor Newms: [12:36] Yeah it's there's just some people I have a couple people I work with that are like that but we won't name their names of course. Pastor Bill: [12:46] In the church and their church because because that's… would be me and your wife or the only people you work with in the church. Pastor Newms: [12:52] Not in the church no. Pastor Bill: [12:53] You're like I don't like your voice I don't like my wifes voice, I don't want to be here. Pastor Newms: [13:00] There are some days your voice grades me but it's usually because we've just gotten in an argument not because of anything valid we've gotten in one of our spats about. Pastor Bill: [13:09] And we argue man we spat about the stupidest thing sometimes. Pastor Newms: [13:14] It's the stupidest that it's semantics it's English-language ninety percent of the time because we both have a different position and we're trying to understand the other person's position but we can't because there's some word one of us is hung up on, and then we get to the end and you're like wait did we just argue for two hours on a word. Pastor Bill: [13:34] Yeah did we just uphold the exact same point of view and argue about it for two hours because we were stating it in different ways so you don't disagree that. Pastor Newms: [13:45] Gran says hooray for Network management protocols. Pastor Bill: [13:54] I don't know I thought if I did that that head shift thing that dogs do I'm I understand what he's saying what does that mean. Pastor Newms: [14:01] I'm not a hundred percent sure but I'm assuming it has something to do with. Network management protocols so I'm assuming it's Gran thought I said SN SNMP. Pastor Bill: [14:22] OS and MP. Pastor Newms: [14:25] Which is Network protocols. Pastor Bill: [14:26] You said. Pastor Newms: [14:28] SCP is the is the is a is a fandom online of, stories about what if all kinds of crazy things actually existed and there's a, non-governmental agency called the SCP Foundation which is secure contain protect. And so they there's all these short stories and all these that are some of them are phenomenal and some of them are garbage because they're written by their written on a Wiki and so it's open for people to write, um and one of the rules is it in it is because the SCP deals with reality Benders all the time there is no Cannon, so the writers themselves take what Canon they believe is true and right off that and then you when you're listening you're like and so there's these people that do these YouTube videos where they read the stories, and then add extra details from other stories that involve those essays and it's, I fell in a hole for about two years where I was listening to like three hours of it a day. It was a little crazy I have to say but. Pastor Bill: [15:52] And then he was like. Pastor Newms: [15:53] I know a lot about it. Pastor Bill: [15:54] He was like you should listen to some of these with me sometime and I was like okay I dragged you into Star Trek world and made you watch some Star Trek made you play store we're going to try this SCP thing it's not for me. Pastor Newms: [16:09] It's not for him. Pastor Bill: [16:10] I'm glad that Newms enjoys it and that there's something out there that can captivate him that way but it's definitely not for me. Pastor Newms: [16:27] Because I always forget my sister exists, and so it's an SCP of this person who everyone thinks is their little sister but when they're not like actively paying attention she disappears. But yet everyone else around them knows that and they're like wait didn't you forget your sister and that's constantly a question that whoever she's currently attached to has to ask and so it's kind of humorous. Pastor Bill: [17:00] It's a kind of object permanence/silence thing. Pastor Newms: [17:07] There's a couple of there's a couple of SCPs that have that mind-altering, reality let go like I called them reality Benders pretty constant but, I think it's funny just because we were talking about it one time and everyone's like why do you always forget your sister and I'm like I don't know I love her she lives here, like. Pastor Bill: [17:29] She's not real she's an SCP. Pastor Newms: [17:31] I don't I'll put four plates out and then like keep making dinner and people are like, “Don't you need 5 plates?” “Why?” Pastor Bill: [17:41] So your sister getting too. Pastor Newms: [17:43] Because Phoenix might come down and eat I don't know. Pastor Bill: [17:48] She don't get a plate we're just gonna put her slop straight on the table. Pastor Newms: [17:51] Yeah she can eat off the table and then I make food for the dog but then like don't put food out for her like you know just. Pastor Bill: [18:00] Food out for your sister. Pastor Newms: [18:03] Well I I mean like make her a plate or put her plate out or that sounded terrible. Pastor Bill: [18:08] It sounded horrible. Pastor Newms: [18:09] That's okay this morning Kaiju is learned a new thing Kaiju has learned to alert me when she is not happy, I'm with her breakfast and that she would like a breakfast additive such as you know an egg or some potatoes or you know something that that Daddy me being me would have to cook she now, goes to her food bowl she looks at her food bowl she looks at her, dry container that's next to it she puts her face on the dry container she looks at the food. Takes a bite stares me in the eye while she chews her one bite and just looks at me. While she's eating and I'm like and then she'll get up and go sit in the kitchen. Just sit on there's a rug for like washing plates right and that's where she sits when I'm cooking because it's behind the stove but it's close in case something falls off but you know, and so for breakfast when I didn't cook I had cereal the girls had cereal Kaiju had an egg so she has me properly trained, she's so cute though her little puppy dog eyes. Pastor Bill: [19:41] All right we got a commenter on YouTube but I don't understand the comment that's okay. Pastor Newms: [19:48] Born To Go not sure. Pastor Bill: [19:49] Yeah voor in go I don't know what that means either perhaps it's another language their name is clearly not English, kind of looks like they just went on the keyboard when they put in their name. That's kind of cool I would like a name that it looks like I just switched on the keyboard that'd be awesome I'd be like what's your name, all right so this week we're the title was at the well so, if you're wanting to follow along in the Bible we're going to pull up this one story and then we're going to do some history stuff and we're going to talk about how things relate to us and on and on our right, so if you want to go to John chapter 4. John chapter 4 and then I'm going to start reading in verse and let's just start in verse 1 because it's good to have. Context of what's going on at the time and we're going to read all the way through verse 26. We might talk about verses 27 through 38 here in a little bit if we get to it, all right when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard he was making and baptizing more disciples than John although Jesus himself was not baptizing but his disciples were, he left Judea and went again to Galilee, he had to travel through Samaria so he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar near the property that Jacob had given to his son Joseph Jacob's Well was there, and Jesus worn out from his journey sat down at the well it was about noon. A woman of Samaria came to draw water give me a drink Jesus said to her because his disciples had gone into town to buy food. How is it that you a Jew ask for a drink for me of Samaritan woman she asked him, for Jews do not associate with Samaritans Jesus answered if you knew the gift of God and who is saying to you give me a drink, you would ask him and he would give you living water, sir said the woman you don't even have a bucket and the well is deep so where do you get this living water, you aren't greater than our father Jacob are you he gave us the well and drank from it himself as did his sons and livestock, Jesus said everyone who drinks from this water will get thirsty again but whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again, in fact the water I give him will become a well sorry will become a well of water springing up in him for eternal life. Sir the woman said to him sir give me this water so that I won't get thirsty and come here to draw water go call your husband he told her and come back here, I don't have a husband she answered you have correctly said I don't have a husband Jesus said, for you have had five husbands and the man you now have is not your husband what you have said is true, sir the woman replied I see that you are a prophet I feel like that's like the blondest answer, anyway. No friends to bonds but you get the concept our fathers worshiped on this mountain but you Jews say the place to worship is in Jerusalem, Jesus told her believe me woman an hour is coming when you will worship the father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem, you Samaritans worship what you do not know we worship what we do know because salvation is from the Jews, but an hour is coming and is now here when the true worshipers will worship the father in spirit and in truth, yes the father wants such people to worship him God is spirit and those who worship Him must Worship in spirit and in truth, the woman said to him I know that the Messiah is coming he was called Christ when he comes he will explain everything to us Jesus told her I the one speaking to you am he. So we've got this dynamic between the superior and Samaritans and the Jews and you've got this issue where Jesus, has to travel through Samaria for some reason to get from Judea to Galilee and I say has two because there are two paths from Judea outside of Jerusalem. So if you if you look at it here I'll put a map here for you if you follow this this part of my hand right here this is the Jordan River the river where Jesus was baptized and over here you've got Judea and all the Hill Country of Judea with Jerusalem, if you go up then you've got some Merit Samaria is here and then where he's going in Galilee is up here well shoe passes there, you can go through Samaria which is the quick path because there's a mountain range here and then the river it's you know you're basically by passing the mountains or, you can go over the mountains to the other side of the Jordan River and up and then back again which is a much longer trip, it is much more difficult trip so, had to go through Samaria well most Jews don't ya Biggs on Twitch says nice map, most Jews wouldn't go through Samaria they refused and they would take the long path and at one point in the Book of Luke Luke chapter 9, Jesus is actually traveling through Samaria and tries to enter a Samaritan town and they wouldn't let him because his face looked too Jewish, um or rather specifically it says when they saw in his face that he was determined or likely. Suppose the. Pastor Newms: [26:28] Nope. Pastor Bill: [26:31] And they did not receive him because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem so they're saying you can't come in our town because you look like you're a Jew, we're not going to have any of that here so the Samaritans didn't like the Jews for good reason the Jews didn't like the Samaritans, for an understandable reason I'm not going to say it's a good reason because it's in my opinion not a good reason but understandable reason, so if we want to rewind time and we go back to where so Jerusalem was was not Jerusalem the the people of Israel were two kingdoms the northern kingdom and the southern Kingdom and those two kingdoms were then United when Samuel anointed Saul as king, Saul became the king these two kingdoms were United and then Saul, loses the kingdom today that a David becomes the new king and they're still then one Kingdom Loosely one Kingdom David did more to unite the two the two kingdoms than anyone else in all of their history. And so then Samuel dies well when Samuel dies then you start to get the insurrections and the issues that David faced with his own son turn usurp him and and on and on, so then they basically split into effectively two kingdoms, they would still work together fight wars together against Outsiders but they also fought Wars against each other constantly and so that's, you know the problem is going there and then because they had, Take It On Foreign gods and married foreign wives and on and on and on the Bible says that God then handed them over to Assyria, so they go into captivity to take captivity in Assyria but there was a contingent of Jews who fled into the mountains where the Assyrians couldn't find them, and these people established on and around Mount I had it pulled up. It's the mountain that the woman in the story we just read was talking about it is Mount. And of course I scrolled away from the name of the mountain Garrison or jerez mmm. Pastor Newms: [29:08] My chair is acting up sorry. Pastor Bill: [29:11] On or around that mountain now this mountain is where the Samaritans believed, that Moses actually met with God that's the mountain where they believe that Moses met with God. The Jews believe that Moses met with God on a different Mountain the Samaritans also believe it was on this mountain that God not only gave Moses the Ten Commandments but the Samaritans believed that God, wrote the first five books of the Bible himself and presented them to Moses, when he gave him the Ten Commandments a big just saying Mount Sinai that's where the Jewish belief that God met with, Moses and did all this the Samaritans believe it's a different Mountain they also believe that this mountain is the mountain where Abraham was instructed to sacrifice Isaac, and then was stopped by the angel and this these are reasons why the Samaritans believed, that mountain is where God should be worshipped because of these events that their historical records tell them happened there. And so this offshoot of people who weren't taken into a Syria they are living up in the mountains they're worshipping, the same God but they're also worshiping Asherah they're continuing to have a Shore polls they're continuing to have the gods of other, kingdoms and other religions and they've got this whole list of gods that they're. And so then when the Jewish people are not technically freed but, king of Assyria plants groups of Jews into the territory where the Samaritans are now living, they, and these weren't just use they were Jews they were Assyrians that Jews had married they were The Offspring of people that Jews and Assyrians they were the friends and family you know extended family of so you've got, not just Assyrians but other people the Assyrians had taken you know had conquered and taken in as well as whole Melting Pot of, and this whole Melting Pot of people thing is why when the Jews do then re-establish, the southern kingdom in Jerusalem they consider Samaritans to be mongrels or mixed breeds because, they're not pure Jews anymore, in any of the Jews who had married Assyrians and so on and so on while they were in Assyria were considered mongrels and mixed breeds as well and were you know sent off. So they've got the southern Kingdom now and then the Samaritans are making up the Northern Kingdom at this point right so we fast forward to, um becomes time in the book of I want to say Ezra. In the book of Ezra it comes time where they're going to rebuild Jerusalem they're going to rebuild the Temple. And by this time, the Samaritans that had stayed had given up Asherah they've given up all the foreign Gods the only God that they're worshiping now is still. The god of the Israelites however they have their own name for him own nickname remember last time we talked about nicknames so the Sumerian nickname for God was Shehmaa, now Shehmaa is literally the word for the name, they literally nicknamed God the name. Um they were still that at this point they were exclusively worshipping the name which is the name their nickname for Yahweh, and they come and they ask well we're worshipping the same God you are we're making sacrifices to God on the mountain we would like to help build the temple and then we can all worship God together. And the team that's in charge of building the Temple says, you can't be a part of what we're doing we're doing it the king of Syria gave us leave to come do this and this is our work we're rebuilding Jerusalem and the temple you're not allowed to help us and sent them away. So this is why Samaritans don't like the juice hit that one moment in history, LEDs has led to hundreds of years of Samaritans not liking juice now today as of right now there are about 1,000, less than 1000 Samaritans left most of them hold dual citizenship Jewish and Palestinian, um and the ones that don't are full Jewish citizenship, the ones that hold dual citizen are a lot aren't required to serve in the Jewish military when they turn 18 but the ones that only have Jewish citizenship are required, and they basically all live in this one neighborhood on the outskirts of. Right there anyway so yeah there's that there's that so this is the history of that they have with each other so, we fast forward to where in Jesus time the Jews see the Samaritans as the descendants of mongrels, worse than Gentiles because they're the descendants of people who had access to God and then mixed with people who didn't, and created these Offspring and the Samaritans don't like the Jews because the Samaritans are going well we've got the word of God we worship the same God we love God we want to be together and you just told us to, go off back in the mountains and keep being mongrels right so that's where we are so Jesus. He plays on this hatred to prove a point when he tells the story of the Good Samaritan and the Pharisees actually, use the term Samaritan as an insult and describe Jesus as a Samaritan, or demon-possessed man that's actually how they describe Jesus as an insult was to call him a. So we've got some serious issues going on right but both groups want. To worship God and Jesus says well the day is coming where it won't matter. On the mountain or in the temple or by the tree or at the well or anywhere else because you will worship in spirit and in truth. See that there's this whole thing going on here in in John 4 beyond the idea of Living Water, to where you'll thirst no more, that means something different than any means now when you're thirsty it means you want some physical intimacy and you're scrolling online to try to find some substitute for it because you're thirsty. Then it means something completely different liquid was equated to spiritual life, if you were dry and parched spiritually then you were thirsty, and Jesus is using this well as is example of well I bring living water so that spiritually you won't be empty and dry and longing and thirsty anymore. But there's more going on here there's this there's this thing where Jesus is going there's this time. When you're all going to be one and it won't matter what that label is anymore of Samaritan or Jew, Gentile, Baptist, Methodist, Protestant, Evangelical, Catholic. On and on and on I can't list all of them Lutheran Methodist can't list all these labels that we tried to use to create separations in the. The only issue that makes you not a part of the church is If you deny that Jesus came and died on the cross and was raised again. That's it if you believe that three part statement came died rose again. Then we're the same group we're the same should be no barriers between us. And that's what I wanted to highlight from the story of at the well it's because. When we put our faith in Christ. We all receive that well spring of Living Water in our hearts and it's all the same Wellspring and it's all Fred fed from the same Waters we all have that same wall spring in our hearts. Anything you want to add to that Pastor Newms. Pastor Newms: [39:41] No I will agree I think that that's a very important part of the story that often gets gleaned over, just because you know there's the hole, Jesus went out of his way to show the Samaritans that they were part of this to this you know there's this part of the story that part of the story you know oh look Jesus knows everything just by looking at someone you know there's all these different parts of the story that a lot of people spend a lot of time highlighting and skipping over the part where Jesus is basically like can y'all stop squabbling like children like this isn't what matters, very soon none of this will matter as far as who and where because everyone can worship anywhere and I think that's also a very important part of that because, so often we you know you have a mindset that some people have that worship is only in a church building, not everyone I'm not trying to say you know not a specific denomination not a specific type of person but there are people who believe that and. Pastor Bill: [40:53] Like cursing I don't curse in a church building. Pastor Newms: [40:57] Sometimes yeah don't wear a cowboy hat. Pastor Bill: [41:00] Does it make that it's that four walls instead of this four walls. Pastor Newms: [41:04] What's you shouldn't live different. But another aspect of that is that those types of people that are like oh well I'm at church so I'm going to worship and then, the rest of the week rolls around and there is no Worship in their hearts, there is no prayer and Thanksgiving there is no it's just, I work I do my stuff I am who I am I'm you know they ignore God all week because they can only pay attention to God in the house and it's like, that's not the holy spirit in us as that Wellspring doesn't everywhere we go every time we talk every time we eat Saul, that you know it's all influenced by it it's you know I find it interesting often you know there's a difference between like a Christian Author and an author who is Christian and a Christian artist and an artist who is Christian and and oftentimes you know even if you're writing in the secular, if you are a Christian who is actively accessing the Holy Spirit, You Can't Hide certain aspects you know there are certain stories that have been told. Pastor Bill: [42:37] That's why when you listen to Switchfoot songs you hear even though they are technically a cycler band you hear a come through you listen to Lifehouse, you hear their faith come through. Pastor Newms: [42:52] And even bands where you look at bands like Korn where, several of their members became Christian but they can sit they continue the same style of music in the same way but the music takes a drastic shift and everyone's like oh it's because they got sober, oh it's because of this oh it's because of that it's like well yes all of those. And like and so it's interesting too. Pastor Bill: [43:24] And you're going to tell me them altar calls at the end of the Korn concert that's because of. Pastor Newms: [43:29] Yeah it is it's just because they got sober. Pastor Bill: [43:31] Sober as well that's because I got so okay okay. Pastor Newms: [43:33] Yeah that's the only reason. Pastor Bill: [43:35] I got you I got you. Pastor Newms: [43:38] Yeah but it's always interesting to see you know there are people who you cannot and then we have the opposite we have people who claim to be Christians and you know they win an award and thank God and yet you look at him and you're like. Pastor Bill: [43:52] Mmm. Pastor Newms: [43:55] There's no fruit there's no fruit that's a dead tree if that is a tree. Pastor Bill: [44:00] There is no light shining forth here this is not. Pastor Newms: [44:03] There. You know but in that you know. It sometimes feels like application but you see some of those people down the road. Make their realizations you know so it's always interesting to watch some of those kinds of things but what's important is not where we are or whom we are, or in what way we do it it's the problem is that spirit and Truth, that's that big important part of worship in and of following is the spirit and Truth not necessarily all the extra stuff that we often as we mentioned in the beginning there are times, that we will argue there are times that we disagree on Little Things, because we believe and the reason why we typically get to that point is trying to defend the truth that we believe in and that's something as, Berean lifestyle like we talked about so often of searching for the truth in the Bible in historical documents in you know, not taking something someone says even if I say it bill says it you know your mama across the street says it 14 people, told you one time that your cousin said it you know it doesn't matter who said it we should always be searching for, the actual truth in that. Pastor Bill: [45:42] That's the main thing is prove it. Pastor Newms: [45:43] You like to the 14 people telling me that your cousin said. Pastor Bill: [45:48] Yeah like that that was. Pastor Newms: [45:49] Did you like that okay just because it comes across your Facebook feed your Tik-Tok your Instagram, your YouTube does not mean it's truth I don't actually like for me for example I don't actually believe the SCP Foundation is real because they wouldn't call it that and then make a series but there are people who are like see they wrote about it and since they wrote about it that's because it's true. Pastor Bill: [46:17] Plausible. Pastor Newms: [46:17] Plausible deniability that's why they wrote it they wouldn't have wrote it if it isn't true and you're looking at the person going. Pastor Bill: [46:23] They actually did run plausible deniability programs in the 80s and 90s with TV shows and. Pastor Newms: [46:32] Do they still do. Pastor Bill: [46:33] Well I mean not as much as they used to but it's set off such a firestorm in conspiracy theory circles that they were like we made it worse we made it so much worse we might help me move in it so much worse. Pastor Newms: [46:45] Yeah I mean there are things that are you know crazy that are out there but, you know we deal with it we move on but I'm just saying we have to search for the truth now I'm not trying to say don't believe anything you read, because things that are published and peer-reviewed multiple times by whole separate groups can be trusted to certain degrees, again just because someone else on Facebook says something isn't true doesn't mean it is but, that's my soapbox. Pastor Bill: [47:24] So with the like the Doom and Gloom over the last few years, we're all gonna die we're all gonna get sick and suffer and die and and it's going to be horrible and, okay okay I'm not going to dispute the facts of what you're saying, there are diseases people are going to get infected it's going to happen but what I am going to say is, you're telling me that's important and I'm telling you that the hope and promise that I see here. Is what's important so that's my truth in that Doom and Gloom moment is you're telling me The Skys Falling Down. And this book tells me that Skies only my temporary roof for now I got bigger things to worry about. Pastor Newms: [48:22] And that that does say the sky will fall at a certain point but that doesn't mean we. Pastor Bill: [48:27] More like the sky will rip open like a scroll like a scroll has been pulled too tightly. Pastor Newms: [48:43] The whole point of it talking about things like that is to show us that's not the true end that is the end of this realm and so yeah it's going to happen but. Pastor Bill: [48:56] Bad things are always going to happen. Pastor Newms: [48:58] Yeah yeah. Love. Pastor Bill: [48:59] But I have hope I have faith there's things that are more important to me yeah faith hope The Berean Manifesto; Faith, Hope, and Love for the Modern… You did it you did it. Pastor Newms: [49:17] I know I apologize to all the viewers. Pastor Bill: [49:20] You brought it right out of me. Pastor Newms: [49:22] And I did I did I'm sorry. Pastor Bill: [49:25] So did you learn anything about the Samaritans tonight Pastor Newms Pastor Newms: No. Pastor Bill: No, you knew about Mount Gersh Gershom? Pastor Newms: [49:34] The only thing I didn't know I guess I did learn one thing I did not know they all currently live in one neighborhood I knew there was one, area but I thought it was more than a thousand people left so that that that I didn't know, but yes. Pastor Bill: [49:59] Alright so here's another thing that I can tell you about Samaritans so there was a time when Ithamar was a priest who was a descendant of Aaron in the Levitical line and there was another place priest named Eli. And Eli didn't think he was getting enough kickback, from the offerings and tied the people were bringing to the temple so he left and went into the mountains and built a temple for the Samaritans where they could worship God, and that went great for Eli for a while until the Samaritans got wise to why and what he was doing, and then they ran him out of town and then nobody knows what happened to him after that. But they got it simple out of it on the mountain that Temple that she was talking about worshiping God in that's the temple Built by the evil priest Eli and then used by God to draw those people back towards himself. Because that's what God does constantly throughout history we see it. Pastor Newms: [51:27] Everything that's meant yep. Pastor Bill: [51:30] And you can call God by any name you want to call him, but when it's the same profile and the same mercy and the same and the same and the same and you can see it and you go well that's clearly the same God of with different names reaching out to different people, the reason that Jesus came as a Jew. Was one fold that is one reason and that was because when God found no one faithful on the Earth. Abraham heard a whisper in the wilderness and had faith that it was real. And it turned out to be the voice of God. That's it that's the only reason because one man was trying to have faith when everyone else in the world had given up on faith. The story of that the well. I believe the most important part there is as Believers we are the church one body, an antibody has different parts we have a mouth and eyes and ears and hands and feet and we serve different purposes and we reach different people in different ways We Are One. Why are you smirking over there. Pastor Newms: [53:24] Sorry I'm a bad person and the only thing I could think of was the fact, two groups of people that we have recently been talking about a lot are two arms of the same body and it just it made me chuckle and I was trying to keep it to myself but I obviously my face couldn't, sorry. Pastor Bill: [53:47] Has a Star Trek reference by the way to our do the Star Trek game that we play. Pastor Newms: [53:49] Is the Star Trek Fleet command reference is yes anyway sorry. Pastor Bill: [53:55] All right well we're now we're in and that's usual work you know at the 59th minute not quite an hour yet but I don't think anyone online has any questions always typed in any questions so, who's hitting themselves what big. Pastor Newms: [54:13] Yeah why are we hitting ourselves. Pastor Bill: [54:14] What are you talking about. Pastor Newms: [54:16] I'm confused Biggs are you talking about I'm not hitting myself. Pastor Bill: [54:23] All right well that's all we have for tonight I love you guys and I hope you have a great week. Pastor Newms: I love you guys and be safe out there. Pastor Bill: And until next time…
Pastor Bill: [0:00] Hello and welcome to season 3 episode 61 of the Berean Manifesto; Faith, Hope, and Love for the Modern Christian. I'm Pastor Bill and I'm joined by my illustrious co-host, (where are you right here) Pastor Newms. All the way from the cold frigid Northern Wasteland of Tennessee. Pastor Newms: [0:23] Oh no it's 50 degrees today and raining so yeah the snow is gone yeah yeah which is even more funny we had. Pastor Bill: [0:33] We got up to 45 today with 15 to 20 mile an hour wind gusts and they're forecasting that an even deeper drop in temperatures this evening so. Pastor Newms: [0:48] So we had several days of hot and then it frozen snow. Then we had a couple of days where it De-thawed but didn't rise real high and then like the night we went to the first Whataburger to open in in Tennessee in over 40 years because it closed in the 80s. We went there waited in line for three hours to what's wrong. Pastor Bill: [1:22] 40 years… I'm old. Pastor Newms: [1:23] Today you're old now. Pastor Bill: [1:25] As of an hour ago. Pastor Newms: [1:27] Yep an hour ago you got old and I didn't say Happy Birthday on purpose for our whole pre conversation and the whole day to wait till right now just so that way I could rub in the fact that you're 40. For the first time out of my mouth here no problem on yep yep live on camera so. We left the house and it was 52 degrees we left it for 45 by the time we got home it was like 31 in the 3 and the 3 to 4 hours we were gone, and then, Thursday and Friday it snowed and so the girls were out of school and Pastor Bills camera just went down again because Teams hates him and then. Pastor Bill: [2:22] My own son on the Twitch channel, “I forgot it was your birthday.” Pastor Newms: [2:28] That's messed up. Pastor Bill: [2:28] Rude. Pastor Newms: [2:30] That's messed up, are you going to turn your camera back on are we just going without your camera. Pastor Bill: It won't come back on. Pastor Newms [2:41] That is some kind of special. Cool then Saturday it was kind of cold, and started to melt it was in the you know high 30s low 40s and today it's 54 degrees and raining so it's been just a nut so of a weather system here in. On bigger news, your son forgot your birthday which worries me greatly because he's just across the house. Pastor Bill: [3:22] Well we didn't really make a big deal out of it today and so well we usually go out and have a meal or something but we didn't do that so. Okay so I'm gonna have to start running my camera through OBS or something because teams just does not want to use my Razor camera just. Pastor Newms: [3:57] It hates your camera homie will have to after tonight we'll have to set something up you have to fiddle with it throughout this evening and then we'll work on fixing it, tomorrow and in the meantime we'll just get really great video from you all night. And you know I don't even have a creation where you're the little and I'm the big no I. Pastor Bill: [4:26] You never set up an aspect ratio for you to be the host? Pastor Newms: [4:29] Hmm we haven't. Pastor Bill: [4:55] Anyway how was your week. Pastor Newms: [4:56] Anyway my week was good my week was very busy, but other than my week being really busy it was good. Yeah we played some Borderlands we finished the main story which was good and our gaming with the pastor's. Pastor Bill: [5:27] It was really anti-climactic though like it was more of a challenge getting to the end of the game, then the actual end of the game. Pastor Newms: [5:38] And that's part of the point actually because if you notice it just continues like nothing actually. Pastor Bill: [5:44] Yeah, like nothing happened it was just like congratulations just life. Pastor Newms: [5:48] You killed a giant interdimensional monster called The Destroyer. Pastor Bill: [5:50] Ah spoilers what if somebody has to play through before why would you. Pastor Newms: [5:58] I'm going to be honest, that game is so old I don't mind yeah well yeah not that worried about it and I didn't say how you get to the end. Just said at the end you destroy a monster if you play a game at the end you don't get to defeat a giant monster called something that's trying to destroy everything what kind of game are you playing. Pastor Bill: [6:29] Puzzle game, a relaxing game mining Simulator game a farm life Simulator game. Pastor Newms: [6:42] You know sometimes I just I get done with you. Now everyone gets to see me adjust this in real time. Pastor Bill: [6:55] Biggs says Mario but even in Mario you fight a bad guy at the end. Pastor Newms: [7:00] Multiple bad guys. Pastor Bill: [7:02] Sometimes multiple. Pastor Newms: [7:04] What time what else is it this needs moved here and then needs to. Pastor Bill: [7:13] There was. Pastor Newms: [7:14] Small. Pastor Bill: [7:15] There was Mario Brothers not Super Mario Brothers but Mario Brothers that came out in between dunk in between, Donkey Kong and Super Mario Brothers, where Mario and Luigi come out of pipes at the bottom and then bad guys coming out of the pipes at the top, boss battles in that game you just compete against the other player to see how many of the little monsters you can squash in each round. Pastor Newms: [7:46] Yeah I do remember that that was an interesting game I now have it fixed to where I am big and you are little. Pastor Bill: [7:56] And in Super Mario Brothers 3 if when it's your turn to choose a level and you're playing with someone else if you choose the other person's character as the level, it will launch regular Mario Brothers and you can play regular Mario Brothers against the other person. Pastor Newms: [8:15] Really that I did not know or I had forgotten. Pastor Bill: [8:33] Slow relaxing head doctor's appointment. Got an adjustment on my medication which turned out fantastic. Pastor Newms: [8:45] Your medication what's that. Pastor Bill: [8:47] Magic magic magic keishon Magik Cajon my education turned out fantastic, I feel great so that's awesome my magic medication medication medication medication that stuff, anyway it's time for Getting To Know The Pastors. Pastor Newms: [9:08] I don't like not being able to see you it really irritates me. Pastor Bill: [9:12] Hey yeah it's weird I don't know what to do about it man. Pastor Newms: [9:16] I know I don't like being the big face just saying at all not even a little. Pastor Bill: [9:24] Hey I may be to let you stay on this time all right if you had to delete all but three apps from your smartphone which ones would you keep. Pastor Newms: [9:37] Well here's a question. What about all the apps you're not able to delete I'm assuming these are apps that you can add yourself. Pastor Bill: [9:52] Right right not like the bloatware that you're required to have by the phone company or the carrier. Pastor Newms: [10:03] Discord. Pastor Bill: [10:05] Mmm. Pastor Newms: Influence. Pastor Bill: [10:15] Influence, what's Influence? Pastor Newms: [10:17] And probably Spotify. So Influence is a game that is the as some people know I delete and start playing new games, a lot I actually have multiple ways that games are stored on my phone I've got this area that has just games that come and go, and then I actually have a folder of games, right and the folder of games are games that I don't remove just because the time the other games can come and go I get bored with them I delete them I install and delete on average about 10 games a week, just because I love trying new games and and seeing if I liked it influences the game that I've had on my phone the longest, I want to say this is either the third or fourth phone that influence has been on, and it's just a game that I love from a company called Terror mock games, it says like a it's either a two or three person development team that they don't do it full-time and it's a phenomenal game. And it that's how it looks and the point of the game is to take over an area with your color. And it has been on my phone the longest of any game that I have and I absolutely love it because it's just an advanced form of you know it's a strategy game turn-based and it, it's great because I can do it. It unless it's against for super you can play with up to five catch up to four computers in yourself so up, colors on the map, unless it's for of the hardest that they just released this year end of last year they released a new algorithm for one of their characters unless it's four of those I can play it mindlessly while I'm doing other things, so I'm often, you know moving the people over you know while I'm doing completely other things watching TV doing because it's, it's almost a fidget for me at this point so but they recently released, a new version a new part that are challenges that are a lot harder and I actually have to focus on which makes me really happy, now there's two parts of the game the Mindless part I can do and then so what about you what would you leave on your phone. Pastor Bill: [13:21] Discord just like you Star Trek Fleet command I don't play that often on my actual PC and, my hours at my desk or limited anyway because you know my wife works overnight and then she needs to sleep and so I can't be at my desk click-clacking away at the keyboard and whatnot because, my office is literally I mean I can reach out and touch my bed from my desk so so you know shared space gotta respect the, the lady who works those hours, I almost said the lady of the night but she's not a lady of the night she's an Uber driver. Pastor Newms: [14:02] That is not how we're going to refer to your. Pastor Bill: [14:04] No regular fertilizes Lady Of The Night. Pastor Newms: [14:07] Um Pastor Bill: [14:08] And so you know I would keep Star Trek Fleet Command and then for my third app, I guess it would have to be Netflix. Pastor Newms: [14:23] You do enjoy having. Some way to watch TV on your phone because it helps you go to sleep at night. Pastor Bill: [14:35] Healthy got while I can use the iPad for that yeah but like when I'm cooking something or, doing any like General loading the laundry machine of the dishwasher the washing machine with clothes or just anything I'm doing you know I I put on background noise some show that's familiar that I've already seen to just, occupy my mind while I'm doing the things you know to help because if I don't have that, thing that I've already chosen to occupy my mind then my mind will get distracted and I'll find myself off task I'll be, I'll be jumping bunny Trails I'll be like, oh this door, his back this back door to the house needs this and this and this done and and then it'll be eight hours later and I still haven't even started the laundry that I brought it into the laundry room because I've gotten distracted by, another task. Since the new medicine I'm on is also used for ADHD it's not why I'm taking it but it's also used for ADHD it'll be nice to see if. Pastor Newms: [19:25] It's I think it's gonna be a good game in two years but that's beside the point this isn't about gaming but I think it'll I think it'll be good in about two years. Pastor Bill: [19:33] About two years Newms gives it for New World to get good so we'll see all right so tonight's, the title of tonight's podcast is in the Nate and I thought it would be a good idea your, moving your face funny Pastor Newms already you were foot why are you. Why are you making faces. Pastor Newms: [20:19] 16 minutes ago well somewhere between 30 11 and 23 is when all the news reports come out Bob Saget has passed at age 65 in Orlando. Pastor Bill: [20:41] So 2021. Pastor Newms: [20:43] Starting off with a bang. Pastor Bill: [20:44] Took Betty White and 2022 is like I see your Betty White and raise you a Bob Saget. Pastor Newms: [20:51] I wouldn't say I raised you it's just and I. Pastor Bill: [20:54] Come on everybody's TV father. Pastor Newms: [20:58] Not now. Pastor Bill: [20:59] Full House a house staple America's Funniest Home Videos the host for like 20 years. Pastor Newms: [21:20] I still like Betty White more I like Bob Saget don't get me wrong. I prefer Betty White but it is a shock and he will be missed and that's sad. Pastor Bill: [21:38] I'm shocked he made it this far have you heard his secular comedy routine his non family-friendly comedy routine woo. Pastor Newms: [21:46] Yes there were there were times where he was heavily involved in a lot of things aside from what we see as TVs dad. Pastor Bill: [21:51] Mmm Yeah. Pastor Newms: [21:57] But it's amazing the things you hear on Galaxy chat in Star Trek all of a sudden it just started blowing up and I was like what's what's what is that going on over there and then it was like oh, hmm that's not what I want to okay anyway. Pastor Bill: [22:17] All right let's get a little nerdy. Pastor Newms: [22:20] Get a little nerdy. Pastor Bill: [22:22] We can get a little nerdy. Pastor Newms: [22:24] Why are we getting nerdy we've already been nerdy. Pastor Bill: [22:26] Because I'm a nerd and I nerd out for this thing this stuff. Pastor Newms: [22:31] You do you love the deep in text. Pastor Bill: [22:34] All right so can you tell me what the name of God is. Pastor Newms: [22:47] No Pastor Bill: [22:48] No you can't you can't tell me what the name of God is. Pastor Newms: [22:53] I can tell you, what some people referred to him as I can tell you what some people wrote down about the name is but the actual name is. Pastor Bill: [23:09] I can tell you what God calls himself in the Hebrew language emphasis there on the Hebrew language. Pastor Newms: [23:18] Yeah but yeah it is definitely not something that is. As well known as people like to say it is we have names of God you know things that the Bible referred to him as. Pastor Bill: [23:41] But even then it's not names of God those are descriptions of God's character. Pastor Newms: [23:48] Which is why. Pastor Bill: [23:49] Of a gyro Edge over these are all descriptions. Pastor Newms: [23:53] Which is why I put quotation marks that everyone else couldn't see. Pastor Bill: [23:56] Yeah but in the podcast no one can see your quotation. All right so the only time that God ever actually calls himself by name in the Bible, is any Ezekiel 3:14. In English we say it as I am that I am, and if you go and you look it up you want to type that in from Ezekiel 3:14 because I got, too many windows open and if I try to move them I'm going to lose my camera again if we look in the scriptures when you read I am that I am. Pastor Newms: [24:46] That's not how you spell Ezekiel. Pastor Bill: [24:48] Is in all caps meaning, this is not actually meant to be read as I am that I am this is an actual name a holy name and we've made it all caps so that you would understand, that we thought the name was too holy to actually write down and so we wrote down the equivalent. Pastor Newms: [25:15] Where did you say it was. Pastor Bill: [25:20] Exodus 3. Pastor Newms: [25:22] Why don't read Ezekiel. Pastor Bill: [25:25] Exodus 3:14. Pastor Newms: [25:27] Why did I write and hear Ezekiel. Pastor Bill: [25:29] I have no idea what is it what's in Ezekiel 3:14. Pastor Newms: [25:32] Nothing close to what we're talking about. Pastor Bill: [25:35] Really what does it say. Pastor Newms: [25:36] I've already left it. Pastor Bill: [25:38] Okay I'll look it up in my Bible. Pastor Newms: [25:44] Anything to do with the name of God could have swore for some reason I typed Ezekiel nope the chat says you did say Ezekiel, so I don't know why you're thinking about Ezekiel but. Pastor Bill: [26:03] That's hilarious. Pastor Newms: [26:04] Yeah that's why I was like wait no because in the back of my mind I was thinking. Pastor Bill: [26:18] Pardon my slip of the tongue. Pastor Newms: [26:31] The spirit lifted me up and took me away I left in bitterness and an angry Spirit and the Lord's hand was on me powerfully. [26:47] So Pastor Bill: [26:48] Definitely nothing to do with what we're talking about tonight. Pastor Newms: [26:50] Nope. Pastor Bill: [26:51] As you said alright so, in the Hebrew what God said there was hawyaw asher hawyaw. Haway asher hawyaw meaning I exist. Because I exist or I exist because I wanted to or I exist because I always have or something along these lines is the. Pastor Newms: [27:23] I came to pass because I came to pass. Pastor Bill: [27:26] Yeah I came to pass because I came to pass I wanted to so I did. Now according to the tradition the Hebrew tradition, the name of God that we identify as the name of God was given to Moses on the mountain, when he received the ten commandments so the idea that everyone says well this is the name of God, is based around the story not the biblical account of but the story of well this is what happened on the mountain, God revealed his name to Moses and that's where we get the name Yahweh, it is the in Greek we color the tetragrammaton or in Hebrew the tetragram, both of those meaning a four-letter word. And those four letters are yodh hey V hey, or written in English yhw H no vowels in there whatsoever, yo dude hey hey now that s hey is actually silent so it would be your hey Ava, which then we pronounce as Yahweh because we have ignorant American tongues okay, no It's it is Yahweh it's I can't even pronounce it right but it's closer to Yahweh than Yoda hey you know vahey because when we're speaking we don't say you know, A Aron when we read the name Aaron right so it's the same thing you don't say the name of the letter, that's their you make the sound that the letter makes so anyway but that last letter the last hey is the last letter is silent so it's actually just a three letters Yahweh Yahweh, now as it is believed that the name of God isn't supposed to actually be said aloud, right because it's wholly so it should never pass from an Unholy lips is the belief when they would, get to the name of God in when they were transliterate you know transcribing the Bible they would replace it with nicknames, did you just throw something up on the tray on the live this. Pastor Newms: [30:17] No I tried to switch to you and I switched to just your face and then I switch to the title for some reason then I switched back and because I hated the fact that I was big, it was irritating me yeah fun video tonight guys. Pastor Bill: [30:33] So since God's name isn't supposed to be said aloud or that's what they believed nowhere in the Bible does God ever say, don't tell people what my name is don't speak name that was it that was a human belief they would, substitute it with nicknames and originally the started with you just understood that when you're reading, out of the verses to the assembly when you got to that word you would use a nickname, unimproved nickname that the priest had approved, and then later like I said the people who were transcribing over and over and over again it became the belief that even the name of God was too holy to be written, and so then they would start using those nicknames and they would write them at all caps like we saw I am that I am they worded in all caps because they were using God's name but they weren't actually writing, the actual name the actual words that God used they were you know letting you know, this is he didn't actually say I am that I am he said the Hebrew equivalent of I am that I am. Or some semblance of that and they cleaned it up to hiya assure hiya to make it flow better, you know still the name but not met not met in necessarily the exact, sounds that God made when he said it okay so these nicknames you ready be ready for these nicknames that they. Through in their throat at that time these are these are some interesting nickname so you've got Adam and I we know that one I don't know Elohim. Pastor Newms: [32:27] Right we know that one yep we know that one. Pastor Bill: [32:32] Even Elohim the hell he even though the Canaanites to use the Sumerians youth Mesopotamia juice they recognize Elohim so that was probably an influence from you know a cultural influence, Hashem curious, Dominus that's one that the New Testament like to use a lot more to go wow Pippi j'avais and Asia, are all nicknames that transcribers have used, to indicate the name of God was used here we shouldn't read the name of God so we use this nickname and then as time progressed it became the belief that even the nicknames of God were holy, but they wrote them anyway but after they would write them they would break their pin. And throw the pin away and start fresh with a new PIN because once that pin had written the name of God it shouldn't be so lead by writing any other, it should be retired from service because it wrote the nickname of God isn't that interesting. Pastor Newms: [33:53] It is and in certain. Jewish cultures not totally across but because you know there's different sects of Judaism different sects of, Messianic Jews they will not use the name Jesus either, for the same reason they leave out a letter or they which is really interesting too, read when you're like wait why is there literally a dash a dash in the middle of, the name g like I know that that verse says Jesus I've read that verse a thousand like why is there that because they won't write it and so they put a dash and then they're not writing the whole name and, that's better. Pastor Bill: [34:49] All right so we're going to get to Jesus we're not quite there yet let's talk about the name Jehovah. Okay because we know this is used a lot Jehovah Nissi Jehovah Jireh Jehovah on and on and on there's all those names, the word Jehovah, the etymology of this word is that when it became necessary to include vowels for language, um they took the word Yahweh and they took the nickname as of my, and they took the syllables from Adonai, and place them equally in between the letters of the tetragrammaton yhw H to create a new word, and that word is Yehovah. And that's where we get the name Jehovah some person decided that Yahweh wasn't good enough and Adam and I wasn't good enough we needed, a name for God that had not just. Consonants but also vowels, and so they merged a nickname of God with what they believed the name of God was that was given to Moses on the mountain to create yehovah Jehovah, as we say it now now Jehovah now let's now we can start talking about things like this the letter j, The J the simple Jay didn't even exist. When the King James Bible was translated. There wasn't a letter j the letter J is so young it's younger than the King James Bible in the year 1600. 1600 they still didn't have a letter j, So when you say oh no his name was definitely Jesus they definitely called him Jesus, I'm sorry they couldn't have the letter J didn't exist yet it wasn't a spoken letter it wasn't a represented letter in writing, didn't exist yet if you go back and you get one of those copies of the Bible you know from, early early prints its i0 e s u.s. is the closest English transliteration for Jesus but if you go and you look in Matthew, when the angel says and you shall call him Jesus the word Jesus is in all caps. And what did we just talk about that means it means the angel uses a name for God, and that the translator substituted it with an accepted nickname, and wrote it in all caps so that you would understand that it wasn't he wasn't saying that word he was saying the accepted nickname, so then we had to ask yourselves what was Jesus name. And some people have said well Yeshua his name would have been Yeshua you should okay number one where did we get that from. Because I don't know and number two. If this man had to fulfill all of the prophecies in order to be the Messiah then his name would have been a manual. Right not Joshua. And it certainly wasn't Jesus. Pastor Newms: [39:26] Well it's the, the verses that talk about that is they shall call him Emmanuel so it doesn't have to be his name it's just something they would have used someone, called him that it's not necessarily named it's more of a title but that's beside the point. Pastor Bill: [39:48] What's the name certainly wasn't Jesus. Pastor Newms: [39:50] No no cuz it didn't exist even even in in the Strong's Concordance it's the I co. Pastor Bill: [40:02] S u s-- Pastor Newms: [40:03] Yeah so and continue, I want to see where where you fully get to and then I'll say what I want to say so. Pastor Bill: [40:13] I want to hear what you want to say now. Pastor Newms: [40:15] No I don't know what you finish know cuz I want to see if you get there so now. Pastor Bill: [40:20] Don't know where I don't know where I'm going. Pastor Newms: [40:22] Exactly continue. Pastor Bill: [40:24] Hmm. Pastor Newms: [40:34] Jesus name would have had to been to Immanuel because the prophecies but technically that's a title or a nickname or. Pastor Bill: [40:43] Don't know if it's a normal Jewish name it's not a title anyway. Pastor Newms: [40:50] No I mean the word called could mean multiple things it could be just, someone used the net doesn't have to be named it can that word can be translated multiple ways so there's always been question on that part of the prophecy but that's what I was meaning is the, prophecy itself could mean multiple things not Emanuel not being a name because manual is. Pastor Bill: [41:18] It's still a name. Pastor Newms: [41:20] In the yeah it's still a name which so is Jesus in the same people group yeah yeah exactly, where. Pastor Bill: [41:41] Have people really started using the name Judas. That's that's up there with naming your kid Hitler. All right so this word Ioesus, this from what I can see and what I've found in study is the pronunciation of the INRI that was written above, Jesus head while he was hanging on the cross and this is where this this first this word is first used, for calling him that and then it, became a normal thing for them to use that name in retrospect because it was illegal to be a Christian and it sounded so very close to saying the son of Zeus in great, and so it was easy to pass off as, oh no we're not talking about that rebellious Trader who had to be put to death we're talking about the son of Zeus, absolutely that's that's absolutely what's going on. Pastor Newms: [43:13] It looks like there's at least 100 people walking around in the United States with the name Judas. Pastor Bill: [43:19] Wow. Pastor Newms: [43:20] In 2020 there was at least 11 people named that according to name data from censuses and things. Pastor Bill: [43:29] Wow I mean I'm not saying you have to be a believer but you know and name your kids according to my Christian beliefs but it's pretty Infamous story with an Infamous name like. Pastor Newms: [43:44] I think that's why some people use it is it's. Pastor Bill: [43:47] Because it's infamous. Pastor Newms: [43:48] Yeah supposed to be the smack in the face of. I'm naming my kid this to be anti I would I would think. Pastor Bill: [44:01] I just feels like you're setting up your kid to fail like he's gonna have that stigma on him his whole life. Pastor Newms: [44:07] And actually the name Adolf has started to be used again. Pastor Bill: [44:12] I've never fell out of popularity it was it was. Pastor Newms: [44:15] Oh no. Tanked percentage-wise oh yeah and then now it's starting to rise again. Because I mean Hitler is a last name Adolf is the first name they're so anyway not that I'm now Googling random names to see what people. Pastor Bill: [44:39] Named their kids. Pastor Newms: [44:41] And often it actually is illegal in certain countries to name your kids certain things. Pastor Bill: [44:47] Well it's illegal in Texas to name your kids certain things I don't know what the list is but there is a list somewhere all right so we get to the scripture by no other name. Can men be saved and first off we don't actually know the name of God there is a group that will end up knowing the name of God. Those who have been martyred are given a this are taught the secret name of God which is interesting and only only they can learn. I guess it's one of those things like after they say it everyone else forgets like can't remember what they said, we don't know the name of God we know what he called himself in, Hebrew the only time it's ever recorded in the Bible that he told us what his name is as far as what he calls himself Jesus then refers to himself by the same name, I am. Pastor Newms: [46:05] Uh-huh. Pastor Bill: [46:15] And so there's no other name by what any man can be saved and then we get on the point that you were saying about that word name that can mean Authority that can mean, nickname that can mean title that can mean it's most likely in context and that verse that they're saying Authority by no other authority can man be saved. And so I think that was everything I had for. Pastor Newms: [46:48] And that's that's so that I can piggyback right off of that of what I wanted to say. Pastor Bill: [46:53] You know I wanted to go geek and then I wanted to bring it forward to Chic and here we are. Pastor Newms: [46:59] So that's all you get is just exacerbated. Pastor Bill: [47:05] Your turn. Pastor Newms: [47:09] Um so, you know often times we have discussed discussions and I've been asked before well what does it matter, you know what does it matter that we had this conversation what does it matter that we don't know and. And that's the whole point is to continue with our growth of, knowledge and trying to dig into things and increasing our. Knowledge of spiritual things is the reason for doing studies like this the other aspect is there are people who, will come against Christians and use examples like this of hey you, you don't even know the name of your God and they're like oh yeah I do because it's here, and then they get hit with some of these things and they're dumbfounded because they've never heard it, or their defensive because they don't believe the speaker lots of situations like that happen because we as a culture, do not always dig in as far as we should into the things that we believe, and it's an understanding that the word name that's used can mean multiple things even something that simple and so, even though we don't know the full name of God we know the name of aspects of God we know certain certain things about God because of the names that are used in the Bible even though they are just nicknames and let's be honest sometimes nicknames are more powerful and more important than regular name's not. Pastor Bill: [49:21] Because they bring definition. Pastor Newms: [49:23] Not that mine is right. Pastor Bill: [49:24] To a character. Pastor Newms: [49:26] Cuz my name is not that my parents named me Jonathan and there is nothing wrong with the name Jonathan do not get me wrong I'm not avoiding the name Jonathan. Pastor Bill: [49:37] Now let's be clear your name's not Jonathan it's Jonathan you're not Jonathan your. Pastor Newms: [49:44] I am not yeah there's no h in my name anyway not in the first part but the, the the aspect of the reason I use my nickname more than my regular name is nothing wrong with my regular name just like there's nothing wrong with, the true name of God but that nicknames that we use are just because that's what's become normal. Pastor Bill: [50:10] That's what's become acquainted with our character. Pastor Newms: [50:12] People know me as Newms there are people here in Tennessee who completely forgot my regular name and I had to, like when I started reaching out to people they were like who are you, this person oh because there was points of my life that I didn't use my regular name so it doesn't equate the same and so nicknames are not necessarily negative in any way which some people have that connotation well we if we only know the nicknames of God there's something wrong. Pastor Bill: [50:44] But nicknames can also imply intimacy right you call someone by a nickname because you have an intimate relationship. Sorry didn't mean to derail you. Pastor Newms: [51:05] No that was my whole point was that you yeah my whole point was the fact that that happens nicknames are important. Pastor Bill: [51:17] Names are important he's keeping score on the war that were in in the charger Clique man, so yeah so let's go back into that list of nicknames if people have substituted for God, Adonai Elohim Hashem curios Dominus more oh sorry more yo wow Pippi Java. Pastor Newms: [51:42] That what I want to know more about that one just throws me off I'm like wait what. Pastor Bill: [51:48] It was created about somewhere between the year 500 and 1000 by someone who misunderstood how to pronounce certain Hebrew characters and it just took off from there. Pastor Newms: [52:07] Humans are special group of creatures okay continue. Pastor Bill: [52:15] Hiya now, there is nothing wrong with using a nickname, when you're talking to God you feel like as an eye or Jehovah or Jesus is the most intimate way for you to connect, with the Divine V divided not a Divine but the Divine the Supreme, Divine is what they refer to him in the original language as when Mary goes to talk to her cousin Martha she didn't say God my God the Lord my God no she says the Divine the Supreme, Divine to indicate that of all of the, Supernatural things we know of this is the one that is the top this is the one that is the most powerful this is the one that is the most wonderful, and she goes on to sing this song about how great the Divine is and all of the great feats the Divine has done in contrast to, I'm just a young girl who's never accomplished anything and yet God saw value. And that is one of those key messages of the whole gospel message is that you, listener viewer whoever all right normal human being and you may have accolades and things that you've accomplished in your life when you boil down to you are just, a bag of bones and juice and electrical impulses, that God looked at and said I see potential. God looks at you he doesn't see the mistakes that you made or your deficiencies or your neuroses or your anxieties he doesn't see those things, he sees the potential of who you could be, without things drying you down without things holding you back without things causing you to be afraid or anxious and that's who God wants you to become, God doesn't look at you and go well I gotta take that thing away because they like it more than me, that's not what God's doing and God doesn't look at that thing and go well I got it I got it you know do this because they're doing wrong know, that looks at Uni goes I see that thing in their life that's do railing them, and causing them not to succeed and I would like to remove that from their life, and then we as humans we get attached to the things that are bad for us. And this is what John was trying to communicate when he said the light came into the world, and he did not come to condemn the world but the world felt condemned, because the light shined on the areas where they already knew, they were hurting and Afraid and anxious and self-sabotaging but as humans we get attached to those things. Jesus came God came to set us free from all those things that are pulling us down, not as an excuse to continue doing the things that pull us down, but so that we literally have a choice to choose to live whole and healthy and move forward or to choose the things that tear us down but ultimately, the idea that sin keeps us from God doesn't exist anymore. What keeps us from moving forward is our faith or are not faith in the idea that God came, as a man in order, to pay the penalty for the slavery that you and I were born into, and when we accept that gift when we receive that gift of what Jesus did that's what we know as salvation. It's not this idea of become perfect and throw away all of your old things and yada yada yada yada yada it's not that it's this idea of yeah, I believe that you loved me enough that you came and lived this crappy life like I did, so you can understand what I'm going through, you gave yourself over to pay the price for what Adam and Eve did that I was then born into all I have to do is believe, to receive that, now it's awesome magic switch where things are going to get better as a matter of fact the bible promises that when you side with God when you side with freedom, the things are going to get harder because the world and the things in the world are going to want to either draw you back in or fight you tooth and nail. But that is internal peace, and that ability to say no and not have this addiction troubling you and that thing pulling you down and this thing pulling you down and once again not a magic pill. But the wholeness and the prosperity remember we talked about Prosperity is not money money is one of the things that you can prosper in, but when you talk about Prosperity we're talking about wholeness health happiness joy peace patience all these things that make life, rich and livable and enjoyable this is prosperity not physical things.
