Playlists for all past Sets of Jazz Gumbo will be found at jazzgumbo.blogspot.ca During the live Set, I neglected to mention that the DeJohnette piece features Herbie Hancock as well as Pat Metheny. (Sometimes it seems that Hancock is featured on half the numbers I play, he’s been a guest artist to so many of his colleagues over the decades) Essentially, this is a trio album, and DeJohnette and Metheny co-produced. I can’t help but wonder sometimes, why an album is attributed to one artist instead of another. In this case, DeJohnette and Metheny each wrote three tunes, and they co-wrote the seventh. And in my opinion, the best of them, including “Dancing”, are Metheny’s. Another curious example is “Desafinado”, a huge hit that’s been covered by dozens of artists. It, and almost all the other music on the album, including the even more massive hit, “The Girl from Ipanema”, were composed by Jobim. But the listing above is no mistake. The album is titled “Getz / Gilberto”, while Jobim is ‘featured’. Even more egregiously, Astrud Gilberto, the female voice to her husband’s on “Ipanema”, isn’t properly credited at all, only mentioned in passing in the liner notes. In fairness, she only sang on the one tune, and this was in fact her first ever recording, and it launched a career. A third variety of missing attribution was completely the norm in the 60’s and 70’s. Pop, Rock and Soul groups often failed to list the names of the group’s members. So the name Jessica Cleaves is nowhere to be found in the credits or listings of The Friends of Distinction album (nor those of her male colleagues, Harry Elston and Floyd Butler) though you will find the names of producers, arrangers, technicians, album artists and the guy who wrote the liner notes. Jess Harris is the co-creator of the 'Twentysomething' - now screening on Netflix. Born out of the fear of not knowing how to 'be good at life' in her twenties - she and creative partner in crime, Josh Schmidt wrote, directed and starred in a no-budget series that went from community TV to the ABC - and even to flirtations with Hollywood. I caught up with Jess - appropriately raspy-voiced on the Monday morning after a big weekend - to talk about the highs and lows on her continuing journey of learning how to turn what she loves into a career.

Katharine and Ben played records at the early Splendour in the Grass Festivals before moving to Rainbow Bay, to create the freshest experience on the Gold Coast at the infamous Elsewhere Bar. Katharine danced to Ben's legendary sets, which consistently went off every Saturday for Motion:Theory:Music, from Elsewhere's conception, for 7 years. Dhe played an early set of warm psychedelic house before Ben, and then moved between heaving dance floor and turntables for the spectacularly crazy early morning hours. No words can describe that scene either, but it's imprinted in many memories. Elsewhere won 'Best Music for a Club in Australia' at the Sydney Bar Music Awards at this time. They are now in Melbourne, where she has dj'd for Killing Time Bar, Black Market, Quality Project, Faceless, Doesnt Matter, Revolver's Mama Said and Mi Casa. Katharine closed the Garden Stage for A Collective Future in the bush, and had everyone vibrating, elevating and connecting. She has created podcasts for Mesa Recordings from Santa Fe, Art-E from Romania podcast and next, she and Ben create for Bonjour Minimal. In the spirit of Rowie's Spring Collection '09 mix. This to is on the Tek House tip but with more of a brass influence.

Rowie did this mix for a mate who wanted some disco stuff and he thought he's share it with you guys. It's a combination of old and new disco.

THIS IS NOT AN 80'S MIX! This mix is simply a combination of a few of Rowie's favourite tracks over the last 20 years. 45 tracks are played in 95min. We have a bit of House, Tek, Pop, Retro.. u get the drift.. it's an "it's a bits a" mix.

The theme of this mix is not a genre but a tempo, all tracks in this mix live round the 100 beats per minute mark. The genres within this mix are Funk, Disco, Soul, 80's, Hip Hop and even a hint of Country and Blues. Some of the artists used in the mix are Diana Ross, Plantlife, Bumblebeez, Missy Elliot, DJ Tib, Choklate plus Australia's own Agent 86 and Flow Dynamics.
