On this episode of 100 Guitarists, we're talking about Pat Metheny. He's one of the most commercially successful jazz guitarists to pick up the instrument, and he's covered a lot of ground throughout his long career. Swinging jazz albums? Check. Arrangement-focused, production-heavy collaborative band records? Check. Noise guitar albums, free jazz blasters, intimate solo acoustic baritone guitar performances? Check, check, check. If it seems like Metheny has done it all, that's because he has! We're covering as much as we can and leaving much more to be discovered.Today's episode is brought to you by Lehle: https://www.lehle.com/Follow Nick: https://www.instagram.com/nickmillevoiFollow Jason: https://www.instagram.com/jasonshadrickGet at us: 100guitarists@premierguitar.comCall/Text: 319-423-9734Podcast powered by Sweetwater. On this week's Flames Central Podcast powered by Alcova Mortgage, the crew recaps Liberty's win over MTSU to become bowl eligible for the sixth straight season. Plus, guard Kaden Metheny joins the show to talk about his game-winning shot against Seattle.
Bob Gluck, whose perspective as pianist, composer, and educator has illuminated the music of Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis in his two previous books, now focuses his lens on the music of Metheny. Neither a biography nor chronological record of Metheny's musical output, "Pat Metheny: Stories Beyond Words" instead captures Metheny's self-conception as a musician and the threads that unite and distinguish his creative process.
Kind of a random playlist of music I have been listening to this week. Of particular interest are the tunes that feature McCoy Tyner, including a Michael Brecker piece (composed by Metheny). Also a track from Immanuel Wilkins' new release Blue Blood has some interesting vocals. Joe Metheny was arrested for murdering 2 women in December of 1996. During his interrogation he confessed to murdering 8 more people, but investigators were not prepared for how he disposed of the bodies. He would mix their flesh with beef and pork which he sold to customers out of a barbecue stand on the side of the road, horrifying the investigators and anyone who's ever purchased roadside burgers before. This week, we'll discuss the events that led Joe Metheny down his path to murder, more details than you probably care to know about his culinary skills, and the event that led to Metheny getting caught! Joe Metheny admits to brutally murdering 6 year old Robin and her mother Kelly. The blood chilling details are not for the faint hearted. Just when you think Metheny is done talking about his First Kill he comes with more details about what he did on the anniversary of her murder.Once again Joe aka Tiny toys with the idea of giving Tony the locations of his many victims. He continues to ask for money for this information, and when he realizes Tony will not pay he becomes angry and the true Serial Killer comes out. Metheny compares himself in a letter to Ted Bundy and it's a truly interesting self description of the two serial killers. Tony gives his hysterical take on what service he thinks Siri should provide
Joe Metheny talks about how he did the many girls that he killed a favor. His favorite line was "They were just drug addicted bitches with one foot on a banana peel and the other in the grave."Tony asks Metheny a question that he asks all of the serial killers he's writing: This is very short but important to me in gaining knowledge about you. When your life is over tell me what it is that you want to be remembered as? Metheny's answer is priceless! Metheny the conman continues to whine about being broke. He offered to cut off the little finger on his left hand and sell it to Tony for $500.00.He offers the location of two bodies to Tony for $500.00 The episode ends with Metheny telling a story about a mother and little daughter that he met in a truck stop. It may show a side of Metheny that we never knew existed.
In todays episode Tony and Al are going to cover the question they have been receiving from our Murderphoniacs. Is Joe Metheny is a true sociopath?Tony actually asks Metheny on a rare phone call if he thinks he's a sociopath, and receives an answer you have to hear.Tony shares a heartwarming story that he wrote to a friend who lost her sister. He wanted to see how Metheny would respond. In disgusting detail Joe Metheny describes the obscene murder of Catherine Magaziner and how she ended up ready to cook on his grill. The horror he describes could never be made up even in the scariest horror stories. You will hear the story right from the monsters mouth.
Joe Metheny discusses with Tony what life is like in prison, describes in detail who his “Prison Brothers” were. Metheny's letters are so detailed and are always fascinating, putting the listener right in the middle of the story.Tiny describes how he thought he saw a ghost when describing one of the female guards. She reminded him of the 12 year old girl that was his first kill back in 1970. He lost control and his actions once again ended up with him being put in the dreaded hole. Finally he describes another of his murders that he was never caught for. In detail he discusses the killing of a prostitute while he was a trucker out on the road. Even giving details where it happened and where she is to this day. Joe always intimated that victims were readily available to over the road truckers and he took full advantage.
Metheny sends Tony an unexpected present. He also describes more about his first kill experiences.Joe Metheny sends Tony a tooth that he pulled out of his mouth. This tooth actually consumed human flesh.Metheny also provides Tony with a T Shirt that is a 9 Large which give you an idea of the size of this monster. IOn the T-Shirt Tiny depicts in cartoon form what he used to do to his victims as he prepared them to serve at his BBQ stand. Al and Tony show and describe both the Tooth and T- shirt on the show. You can see them both on the You Tube channel or Buy Me a Coffee. Metheny actually admits to losing his virginity to a German Shepard named Sheena. Given the dark and disgusting nature of these subjects Tony and Al add a lot of humor to try and lighten the mood.
Tony and Al revisit Tony's Near death Experience from 1993Discussion about a new movie titled “After Death brings excitement and new discussion to the fact that there really is Life after DeathMetheny discusses how he was a serial killer in the making since his early childhood. From hurting insects then animals to other kids in his neighborhood.Metheny talks in detail with Tony about his first kill. Something he has never discussed before. He was 15 and his victim was a 12 year old red haired girl. Metheny discusses his feelings after his first killing:"The first is exciting with your adrenaline rushing and then a fear of getting caught"."The second is a little easier but you're more paranoid because you got away with the 1st and you don't want to get caught"."The rest after that it's like swatting flies. You will have no feelings at all".
This episode starts with Tony reading a description of one of Joe Metheny's chilling murders. Metheny describes why he believes his mom is at fault for him becoming a serial killer. In a letter titled “Tears of a Child” Metheny describes his childhood and how he was left on the streets of Baltimore at the age of 6 to fend for himself. Tony and Al through Metheny's letters and phone calls prove that Metheny is a narcissistic sociopath that truly has no feelings or empathy for what he has done over the years. He totally lies about his upbringing.Metheny finally admits that he has no use for Jesus and says that “Jesus is dead and Satan rules over all of us!”
In todays episode we're going to get to know a little bit about Joe MethenyJoe Metheny is the personification of evil. He didn't try to hide who he was, there were no masks. He is one of the most vile people that you will ever hear about. Tony explains that when he got the letter from Metheny in January 2007 he really didn't know anything about these maniacs back then. But now after 15 years of communicating with them and learning so much about these psychopaths, It's like he got a PHD in Psychiatry!Based on his years of experience Tony will dissect a letter in a way to show how a psychopath tries to act normal but they can't. Metheny didn't wear a physical mask to hide who he was, but he sure tried to hide behind his words. This lesson in serial killer psychopathy really gives the listeners a frame of reference for future letters.
