In this episode of Secrets of the Underworld, we revisit Salvatore's story. Salvatore Coco is an acclaimed actor best known for roles in Home & Away, Heartbreak High and a string of powerful performances in Australian TV and film. Salvatore shares insights from playing gritty characters like Harry Hammoud in Underbelly: The Golden Mile. From standover men to complex antiheroes, he reveals what it takes to bring the underworld to life on screen.
He was the upside-down man who brought imagination to life — with nothing more than a pencil for a nose and a blackboard for a stage. Mr Squiggle, the beloved children's television icon, captured the hearts of generations with his wobbly lines, friendly charm, and boundless creativity.Travel back to the earliest age of Australian TV to explore how Norman Hetherington's quirky puppet became a national treasure. From his humble beginnings on ABC in 1959 to the stories the hosts' own mothers told them about the show, Mr. Jolly Squiggles (Simplified to Mr. Squiggle in later years) wasn't just a puppet — he was a teacher, an artist, and a friend to millions.Join Holly & Matthew as they uncover the legacy of Mr Squiggle and Friends, the artistry behind his creation, and the enduring magic of a character who taught Australia that a few squiggles and a bit of imagination could turn into anything at all.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weird-crap-in-australia--2968350/support.
Can you believe it - The Bachelor is back on Australian TV! This week, The Golden Bachelor AU made its official premiere, and we're putting our expertise to good use in pulling apart the first week of the show. Is playing it safe the right move for the producers, or does it feel like more of the same? We analyse the limo exits, first dates, and the woman who at least seems to be getting a slight villain edit (but it's too soon to tell). If you're wondering if you have to watch the show to listen to the pod - you definitely don't! But we were pleasantly surprised by a lot of things on the TV this week, and you might be too.Let us know how you feel about Week 1 on our socials @bohpod and share the pod with a friend for extra brownie points!
In a televised interview aired in Australia, Bill Gates was pressed about his past association with Jeffrey Epstein and asked whether he regretted having that connection. During the exchange, he acknowledged that he “shouldn't have had dinners” with Epstein, but he adamantly denied there was ever any deeper partnership or formal alignment between Epstein and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Gates maintained that his interactions with Epstein were limited and opportunistic rather than indicative of any ongoing relationship. The interview drew attention because it forced Gates into a defensive posture over years-old ties at a moment when Epstein's legacy remains deeply controversial. He was challenged repeatedly on whether his ex-wife, Melinda, had warned him about Epstein's intentions and whether any philanthropic deals had been discussed—questions he deflected by restating his regret while pushing back on accusations of deeper involvement.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

An Australian TV host has kicked off a conversation with a post on her social media calling for airlines to provide women only seating areas. It has attracted hundreds of comments many supporting her concerns. Last year one of India's airlines started letting women select seats next to other women when checking in. Others have sensitive seating areas. Aviation Commentator Irene King spoke to Lisa Owen.

The Rumor Mill — August 18, 2025 Joe and Nathan are back with another week of drag world news, listener messages, and plenty of shade. This week, they: Compare U.S., U.K., and Australian TV standards, leading to a hilarious detour about Big Brother Uncut and Nathan's first glimpses of nudity on TV. Trevon calls in to weigh in on Bob and Monet's race play controversy, while Evan delivers a detailed (and adorable) recap of Slayzian Royale. Cover the headlines: Heidi N Closet's involvement in ELF Cosmetics' controversial ad with comedian Matt Rife, and the messy $80 wig drama between Orion Story and Britney Blackout. Talk behind-the-scenes tea on editing, timing, and why listener engagement means so much. Plus, Nathan plugs his Breaking Down Bad Books podcast (now on Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone) and his new Disneyland vlogs on YouTube, while Joe admits he's already crushing on Evan's voice. On the show today, the Logies 2025 date has been confirmed, and while we prepare for Australian TV’s ‘night of nights’, some very well-known Australian TV stars have complained that they’ve been uninvited. Allow us to explain exactly what has happened. And in a clever business move, actress and producer Sydney Sweeney is selling her literal bathwater, and we have a very pressing question about the rule she’s set for who is allowed to buy it.Plus, in a huge week for Sydney Sweeney, she has also given a tell-all interview about ending her engagement and the career roadblocks she is facing, an interview in which she utters the one sentence we thought was forbidden in Hollywood. This week Nicola and Di chat with the inspiring trailblazer Brook Boney. Brook is a proud Gamilaroi woman. She’s a political reporter and much loved broadcaster who took the big leap of leaving her job as the entertainment reporter for The Today Show, to follow her dream to study at Oxford. Brook has written a new book All Of It, which tells her story in a beautiful and moving way and we absolutely love it. In this conversation we hear about the brave decision Brook made to leave one of the most coveted jobs in Australian TV to pursue a Masters in Public Policy at Oxford University. She shares why even though it was difficult to leave behind a job like that, and even harder still to move so far away from her family, she has no regrets. Nicola and Di also share their own life-changing decisions and how they look back proudly at those decisions now. Brook tells us what life is like at Oxford and how she’s having so much fun. She’s even landed herself in the college that recruits for spies (although Brook admits she’d be a terrible spy after a champagne of two). Brook opens up about her personal story, growing up poor in housing commission in Muswellbrook, and how she’s been the first in her family for so many of the things she’s achieved. She speaks beautifully about how proud she is to be Aboriginal, and what it means to her to feel completely connected as one link in the chain of a 60,000 year history, and the sense of duty she feels not only to those that have come before her, but also to the next generation of her family. Brook also shares about the grief she felt when her 2 dogs passed away, and the future dreams she has to be a mother one day. This is a deeply personal chat and one that we feel so lucky we were able to have with Brook. It’s also a lot of fun - we laugh all the way through this with Brook and we felt like we all were having a glass of wine together over the back fence. We hope you love Brook’s energy and her story as much as we did. #578: Fear blocks smart money moves. Ask Harvard Business Review advisor Dr. Margie Warrell, who guides Fortune 500 companies through strategic risk-taking. Her client roster includes NASA, Morgan Stanley, and Google. Her understanding of courage started at home. Her 13-year-old daughter landed an Australian TV role. She flew to LA for acting classes. There, she learned the hard truth: Success meant waiting tables for 20 years. The daughter's verdict was clear: "Mum, I don't want it enough." This reveals what Dr. Warrell calls the courage gap. It's the space between your current life and the life you could create through brave action. For investors, this gap appears daily. It's the distance between dreaming of financial independence and taking concrete steps toward building wealth. Drawing on her doctoral research and Fortune 500 consulting experience, Dr. Warrell outlines five critical steps to bridge this gap: 1. Focus on what you want, not what you fear. Our brains have a negativity bias — we're twice as sensitive to potential losses as potential gains. This explains why market downturns feel more intense than upswings. 2. Rewrite your story. The narratives we tell ourselves shape our actions. Perhaps you see yourself as "too risk-averse" to start a business or "not smart enough" to understand investing. Reframe these stories so you can take smart financial risks. 3. Embody courage physically. Fear lives in our bodies — whether it's anxiety about making your first investment or launching a side business. Try simple practices like deep breathing when facing big financial decisions. 4. Step into discomfort. Growth and comfort can't coexist. Every successful investor and entrepreneur started as a beginner. Financial literacy and business acumen develops through consistent practice. 5. Find the treasure when you trip. Market corrections, failed business ventures, and investment mistakes are learning opportunities. Dr. Warrell emphasizes that courage isn't about waiting until you feel confident — it's about acting despite your fears. This applies whether you're making your first stock purchase, buying your first rental property, or quitting your job to start a business. The takeaway: While you can't control market conditions or business outcomes, you can control your response to financial fears.
