The transgressive trailblazer celebrates 25 years since The Teaches of Peaches. A boundary-blurring blend of electroclash, sex-positive feminist themes, and fun. Ever wondered what it's like to be whipped in the cobblers by a carbon fibre tent pole? No? Well, you're about to. In this episode, Andrew returns to the studio and brings along Dr. Sam for a high-brow chat about testicular trauma, Trev & Simon, and the absolute best music to make your hips involuntarily wiggle like an over-caffeinated toddler. The theme this week? Songs to swing your pants to. The result? A genre-skirting playlist filled with funkadelic basslines, ska-punk chaos, and whatever Clipping are doing (which might be witchcraft). From George Clinton's Moog-powered madness to the playful brilliance of Little Simz, from Missy Elliott in an inflatable suit to Dexys being much more than “Come On Eileen,” this episode jumps between groin injuries, nostalgia, street crossings turned flags (ffs), and musical elitism that would make a vinyl collector blush. We also learn about ancient British tribes, the legitimacy of “potholes in lawns,” and how you can use “in Minecraft” to legally dodge confessions. It's educational. Sort of. Mostly not.### Riffs of the week#### Dr Sam's Riff- Barren Path - The Insufferable Weight #### Andrew's Riff- Clipping - Dominator### Dr Sam's track choices1. It's taken me some time to get around to making my next Essential artist compilation but I never had any doubt it would be Kelly Clarkson. Her voice is undeniable. The range, the power and the control. There is literally nothing this woman cannot sing. I remember her audition on the first season of American Idol way back in 2002 and unlike many singing talent show winners, Kelly did not fade from public view after her debut single and album. In fact, she increased he fan base becoming more popular with each album release. Three of her most successful albums Breakaway, All I Ever Wanted and Stronger are some of the highest selling albums by a female pop artist, and all of this by 2011. Kelly's appeal is global as she has had songs chart around the world. She reinvented herself when she became a regular judge on the US version of The Voice with 4 winning contestants to her name. In 2019 Kelly became the host of her own talk show where a highlight of each episode was her "Kellyoke" where she would cover songs by other artists, putting her unique spin on them. This first edition of essential songs features 22 tracks remixed by producers such as 7th Heaven, Division 4, Chris Cox, Barry Harris, Shanghai Surprise, Cosmic Dawn, Wayne G & Andy Allder, Russ Rich, JRMX, David Guetta and DJ Laszlo to name a few. The final track is a duet with Cher but I didn't realize that the remixer had cut most of Kelly's vocal from the mix, so enjoy the final song by Cher I guess. I love listening to Kelly sing so here is a compilation of her biggest hits for you to do the same. EnjoyAnthony1/ "DANCE WITH ME" (Young Bombs Remix)2/ "THE TROUBLE WITH LOVE IS" (Mauve Classic Vocal Club Mix)3/ "HEAT" (Kokiri Club Remix) 4/ "BROKEN & BEAUTIFUL" (Barry Harris Club Mix)5/ "MISS INDEPENDENT" (Shanghai Surprise Club Mix) 6/ "SINCE U BEEN GONE" (Division 4 Remix)7/ "STRONGER" (WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU) (7th Heaven Club Remix)8/ "SECOND HAND HEART" (Wideboys Club Mix) ft. Alyson Stoner is the founder and CEO of Movement Genius, a mental health platform designed to support child performers. Stoner started their career as a child star, acting in hundreds of projects as an actor, singer, and dancer. They got their big break as a dancer in Missy Elliot's “Work It” music video and went on to star in Disney Channel's Camp Rock, Cheaper by the Dozen, the Step Up movies, and many others. At age 17, after a decade of nonstop work and growing up in the spotlight, Stoner stepped away from performing to take care of their mental health. In rehab, they questioned whether they would have chosen to be an actor after realizing how much it affected their well-being—and wondered what their life would have been like if they had felt more supported as a kid in the entertainment industry. After realizing that their true passion was psychology, Alyson left Hollywood behind to study it. After gaining multiple certifications in the field, they founded Movement Genius with the goal of making mental health support more accessible and affordable online. They also created the Artist Wellbeing Essentials—a digital tool kit designed to support children performers. Today, Stoner is a fearless advocate for mental health, whether it's on their podcast, Dear Hollywood, or in their new memoir, Semi-Well-Adjusted Despite Literally Everything.Order the book here!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this episode of "Now, No Opportunity Wasted," I, Angelica Ross, dive into the significance of July 1st, a date rich with history and cultural milestones. We kick off with a powerful quote from Daisaku Ikeda's "Buddhism Day by Day," emphasizing the importance of gratitude and the dangers of arrogance. This sets the tone for a fast-paced discussion that intertwines technology, art, and social justice. I reflect on the revolutionary impact of the Sony Walkman, released on July 1, 1979, which transformed how we engage with music and our surroundings. I also celebrate the birthday of Missy Elliott, a trailblazer who redefined power and creativity for Black women and femmes, and Amanda Seals, whose unapologetic truth-telling inspires me and many others. The conversation shifts to JoJo Siwa, who recently expressed feeling pressured by the queer community to identify as a lesbian. I address the complexities of identity and the real pressures that exist within society, particularly the pressure to conform to heteronormative standards. I highlight insights from the podcast "Hoodrat to Headwrap," where hosts Erica Hart and Ebony Donley discuss the omnipresent pressure to be straight, contrasting it with the narrative that the queer community is coercive. Next, I touch on the topic of non-binary identities and trans freedom, referencing T.S. Madison's podcast "Outlaws." I emphasize that being trans is not confined to a binary definition and that each individual's journey is unique. I share my own identity as a non-binary trans woman, advocating for authenticity and liberation over labels. As the episode progresses, I confront the silence of public figures like DJ Khaled regarding the situation in Palestine, expressing my frustration with performative activism. I stress the urgency of using platforms to uplift the oppressed and call out complacency. The episode wraps up with a lively Q&A session, where I engage with listeners about various topics, including career transitions into tech through TransTech, the importance of representation in the arts, and the challenges faced by trans individuals in the entertainment industry. I encourage listeners to embrace their unique journeys, build their confidence, and seek out opportunities that align with their passions. Throughout this episode, I aim to inspire and empower my audience to disrupt the status quo, dream big, and show up authentically in their lives. Join me as we continue to explore these vital conversations and uplift each other in the process. Youtube FacebookSpotifyBioImSoTyRell is making noise with “Big Plays”, a high-energy, emotionally grounded hip-hop track that fuses hard-hitting beats with rich melodies and a powerful backstory. Drawing on his personal experiences, the track tells the story of a New York native from Queens who relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, determined to break cycles and choose a different path from the one laid before him.The track opens with a striking image: a six-year-old TyRell watching his mother cut drugs on a dinner plate. Rather than glamorize this upbringing, “Big Plays” tells a story of resilience, personal choice, and ambition.“This song is based on my life,” he says. “I saw where the drug life could lead — I lived in it — but I made a decision to do something different. This is me taking big swings. Big plays.”While the song references his past, it also defines his present: an artist committed to authenticity. His name, ImSoTyRell, isn't just a moniker — it's a mantra.“Throughout my journey, people would say, ‘You should sound more like this or that.' But I wanted people to know: I'm always going to be myself. I'm so me. I'm ImSoTyRell.”Rooted in Queens, Grounded in CharlotteTyRell's musical roots span coasts and cultures. Raised in Queens, he was inspired by local legends like 50 Cent — whose pre-fame days he remembers from childhood — and stylistic innovators like Missy Elliott, whose influence shaped the R&B-infused complexity of his sound. He moved to Charlotte during his senior year of high school and has since made the city his creative home, performing at major venues like the Spectrum Center, Raleigh showcases, and curated open mic events.“I perform where I know I can make a moment,” he says. “It's not about clout — it's about connection.”Art Beyond the MusicImSoTyRell is also a storyteller beyond the studio. He's currently producing an original YouTube series titled “Make Some Noise,” which he wrote, scored, and stars in. The project blends scripted fiction with music, allowing TyRell to further explore his storytelling talents and give voice to real-life issues through a creative lens.“I don't want to be put in one box. I like to create music that takes you on a journey — and leaves you with something meaningful,” he says. “Too much music today feels like a run-on sentence. I want my art to make you think, feel, and reflect.”Service and Self-InvestmentTyRell's commitment to excellence led him to temporarily step away from music in order to stabilize his finances — and return on his own terms. As a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, he proudly serves while investing in the quality of his work.“If I'm going to do this, it has to be top-tier. I won't release something I'm not proud of.”With a strong creative team, The Fly Family (@theflyfamily), TyRell now has the support and production quality to match his vision. What's Next: “Funds Up” and MoreFollowing “Big Plays”, TyRell is set to drop his next single, “Funds Up” featuring Kash Kyla, and release Episode 2 of “Make Some Noise”, planned as an eight-part series.Still, “Big Plays” stands as his mission statement — a call to action for anyone aiming to break generational cycles, dream bigger, and bet on themselves.“It's a triumphant sound. It's about stepping out, making major moves, and feeling good about it,” he says. “It could be a sports anthem or a track for a kid hooping in the park — whatever the context, it's about showing up for yourself in a big way.”And for ImSoTyRell, this is just the beginning.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

Shortly after, we get to business shouting out Missy Elliott and Meg Thee Stallion for putting on a show at Coachella, while Chris Brown and Karrueche had a mini reunion (18:23). Mal feels vindicated by the results of our Twitter poll (41:32), we respond to IG comments about our Mixtape Mount Rushmore debate (43:38), and then build our own White Rapper Mount Rushmore (47:35). Keri Hilson, Ja Rule and 50 Cent, and the St Lunatics rehashed feuds that had us feeling like we were back in the mid 2000's (59:45). Plus, Rory and Mal give travel advice to a recently single listener (1:26:27), and Demaris and Mal argue over who would have (or not have) custody over their hypothetical IVF child (1:36:50). "You need to see what you are made of. I think everyone needs to go to the top and take a dip....Falling down really determines your true success. How do you get back up?" Timbaland You know how it goes Pivot Family- 'It's been a long time, we shouldn't have left you, without a dope beat to step to'....Well we have that beat, as we welcome entertainment icon, Timbaland to The Pivot as he delivers a masterclass in music, resilience, and reinvention. The Grammy-winning producer sits down with Ryan, Fred and Channing to talk about his legendary career, the price of success, overcoming addiction, and the future of the industry. Raised in Virginia, Timbaland didn't come from a major music city, but that only made him hungrier. He breaks down how growing up with limited resources forced him to use anything available to him to create a sound that had never been heard before. As a teenager, he was shot in the neck, leaving him temporarily paralyzed on one side, but it didn't slow up his creative drive, it only sharpened his focus, clearing the way for one of the most distinct musical paths. Ryan recounts how Timbaland, a musical mastermind, was a soundtrack to life growing up and is behind some of the most memorable hits of our times. With over 18-GRAMMY nominations, 4 GRAMMY wins and 200+ ASCAP Music awards, he shares with the guys how he understands his contributions to the music world and is grateful for working with some of the most successful and legendary artists who always brought out the best in him. From Jay-Z's effortless flow to Missy Elliott's visionary and creativity, Timbaland shares what makes "the Greats" different. He breaks down how he and Missy discovered Aaliyah's “Try Again” beat, the chemistry behind Justin Timberlake's biggest hits, the songs he wished he released differently, his in-studio process with Jay Z and why some artists just have an energy that can't be duplicated. Timbaland opens up on his dark times, discussing the moment success became too much and admits that at his peak, he let his ego overpower his talent, which allowed addiction to give him a false sense of power. He recalls out-of-body experiences that made him confront how far he had fallen, the loss of reality and how ultimately, it was deep self-reflection, faith and his wife's voice that brought him back. Despite decades of prominence and success, Timbaland isn't stuck in the past. He's studying the next wave of producers, embracing change, and keeping his sound ahead of the curve. He talks about the impact of Versuz's platform that he co-created with Swizz Beatz, how new artists are still trying to replicate his blueprint, and how the secret to true success isn't about longevity, it's about knowing how to adapt and elevate. This conversation takes us on a journey through music but also sheds light on lessons of falling, rebuilding, and coming back stronger than ever. As in music and in life, Timbaland's story is proof that the real beat never stops, sometimes, you just have to find the rhythm again.
