Things have been rather erratic here at the Open Metalcast Headquarters. We've been rather lax in releasing the metal to you in a timely fashion. One could blame the holidays, but part of it was I was getting behind myself in a lot of things. But my hope in the coming year is that we'll have more metal to share with you and that metal will be prompt and piping hot when delivered directly to your earbuds. Kind of like pizza delivery, but without that awkward moment when you're tipping the driver. Here at the Open Metalcast Headquarters we're watching the final vestiges of summer come to a close as the chill of fall settles in. The crunch of leaves under foot greet us before the icy cold of winter stretches its fingers out to embrace us. And as anyone in wintery climates can tell you it's best to dress in layers for the cold. And what better way to layer up than with layers of Creative Commons Licensed Metal Music to warm your ears. Here at the Open Metalcast Headquarters we mourn one of the great broadcasters in the Detroit-are. Chris Felcyn was a broadcaster on WRCJ FM (a classical and jazz radio station) and hosted a show called "The Well Tempered Wireless". He was very knowledgeable about classical music and was an excellent storyteller. His shows were part listening room, part conversation, and part storytelling. We honor Chris Felcyn by dedicating this episode to him. He likely never heard a second of this podcast (his idea of heavy metal was Verdi's "Requiem"), but he help inspire this show. Now you may say that Winter is the most metal of seasons, but I'd beg to differ with you. Things have been rather busy a the Open Metalcast Headquarters as of late. We had one of the storms of the century rip through our neighborhood last week. Fortunately we didn't have too much damage but we still had to do some impromptu moving of some waterlogged stuff. We're just getting things back to some semblance of normal around here, which means we're ready to bring you the Creative Commons Metal Music you crave. We have brand new Deep Space Destructors off of their cleverly named album III, as well as a long-overdue appearance by GUM. Throw in new tracks from Acherontia, LeHunt, X-ethos, Old Enemies, and Abriosis and you'll have plenty of metal to share with your friends. Plus a surprise re-appearance by Drakum (last seen in episode 39) with a re-interpretation of their classic track "Around the Oak" rounds things off. It's been one of those weeks here at the Open Metalcast Headquarters where you have to wonder "what next?". It's enough to make you feel like a chicken with your head cut off. Though with the amazing Creative Commons metal music in this episode it's more like the chicken had its head ripped clean off; especially with the likes of power-metalers Noble Beast and Twilight Messenger leading the way. Not far behind though is a new track from Headwires, and the long-awaited new album from Galactic Pegasus. Then the darker tones of Fenris, the crushing heaviness of Victim of Depravity, and the brutal Cementerio wrap up the episode before a long-awaited and very overdue return of the prog-metal master Lascaille's Shroud with an opus that was successfully funded on Indiegogo (why didn't anyone tell us about this? Argh!) It's an episode more loaded with metal than last Thanksgiving's turkey.
