What does my Little League drama, that took place over 20 years ago, have to do with what took place last week in the well of the House of Representatives? To tell the truth, not much. Except the part where most of the people who the barely-elected Speaker thought he was protecting ended up biting him in the “you-know-what”!A TRANSCRIPT for this episode is available.
Today on a special episode, the guys don't cover a medical topic and only discuss an entertainment one: the rise and fall of the WWE's Vince McMahon (2:51). Even if you don't like wrestling, or actively hate it, this episode is a fascinating listen. The guys start off by discussing why professional wrestling has continued to be popular over the years and how ‘meta' commentary on wrestling has been covered by writers such as David Shoemaker. Asif then goes over the history of wrestling and discusses how the charge of wrestling being ‘fake' has been around for over 100 years. They then talk about the rise of Vince McMahon and how he changed the landscape of professional wrestling. They then discuss the recent allegations against Vince which prompted him to retire from the WWE. Finally, they discuss where the WWE is heading and the ‘Succession'-type backroom dealings in the organization. The opinions expressed are those of the hosts, and do not reflect those of any other organizations. This podcast and website represents the opinions of the hosts. Greetings friends! I had a great conversation with graphic design artist Michael Kronenberg on the various ways that Batman has been portrayed over the years. It's really interesting to track Batman's evolution, particularly in light of how his persona evolved not only in comic books, but also in movies and other media throughout the years. This is a classic "I feel like I've only skimmed the surface" episode, but we had fun talking and I'm grateful that Michael spent some time with me. Michael Kronenberg is the right guy to talk to. He co-authored and designed The Batcave Companion (co-authored with Michael Eury), is a seminal collection of essays on the Caped Crusader. He is an award winning artist/graphic designer for the Film Noir Foundation and TwoMorrows Publishing, and he is the creator/designer of the boxing magazine RINGSIDE SEAT. Michael has designed magazines, books, and DVD/Blu-Ray movie releases for publishers worldwide. Just as an additional note, I interviewed Michael for my blog many years ago on the art of film noir. Check out the link - we had a terrific time chatting! Thanks to all, and hope you enjoy the episode. See you soon!

What would you say is one of the most polarizing political conversations of today? Climate change?Abortion? The wall? “The Wall” has been a major talking point for President Trump and one of his favorite go-to chants at rallies. Trump most recently made headlines for diverting billions of dollars intended for military construction projects in order to finance this wall. But Americans didn’t always care so much about Mexicans crossing the border. Both sides used to cross willy nilly without much of a care. In today’s episode, we’ll explore the beginnings of our history with the Mexican border. If you would like to know more, David Dorado Romo wrote a great book titled “Ringside Seat to A Revolution: An Underground Cultural History of El Paso and Juarez, 1893-1923” where he details how his great Aunt lived through the baths at the border. Other resources used were NPR’s article titled “The Bath Riots: Indignity Along the Mexican Border” and History Channel’s article “The Violent History of the U.S. – Mexico Border” on their website.
