Tamara “Solem” Al-Issa is a Syrian/Filipina Toronto-based sculptural artist with a focus on conveying preservation of time. Solem's work pulls from memories of the architecture and practices within SWANA and Southeast Asia through exploring familiar shapes, colours and textures from these regions. The Deep Blue series presents hand-built traditional shapes in a custom mixed cobalt blue which is a colour that evokes a familiar sense of nostalgia and wistfulness. In the SWANA region, the colour blue (particularly turquoise) is known to have mystical and protective qualities. http://ThePottersCast.com/1077
Episode 137 The boys are back for maybe a two parter?! I do not know, I just write this not edit the show, but FYI we recorded this on July 7th before the new movie, so do not @ them. In this episode Corwin drops some knowledge about Solem, then talks about how much housing and meal plans cost at college. Meanwhile Scott drops some knowledge on where High School of the Dead would have went in the next year of its run, then figures out the meaning of one of the book's titles during the airing of the show. For the books, they cover the Deadpool books of June and beginning of July 2024. In Past-O-Vision they continue the 2009 masterpiece that is Merc with a Mouth. Finally in a special, and maybe part two, Scott recaps Deadpool 2, and it is probably as long as the movie…again. Look listeners you do not leave us feedback, Scott will just continue to be a mad man with these recaps. As always Robot Chicken Hulk wraps the show up with a new PSA. 0:07:28 Deadpool Wolverine Predictions 0:15:02 News 0:22:20 Deadpool (2024) #3 0:29:26 Deadpool (2024) #4 0:36:22 Deadpool Wolverine WWIII (2024) #1 0:44:03 Deadpool Wolverine WWIII (2024) #2 Past-O-Vision 0:51:24 Deadpool Merc With a Mouth (2009) #3 0:57:12 Retro Ads 1:05:56 Deadpool 2 (2018) Movie Review [MwaP RSS] Subscribe [RSS All] Subscribe [Google Podcasts] Subscribe [Apple Podcasts] Subscribe Music by Jenki Girls of Los Angeles Email: HipsterDaken@gmail.com Website: http://www.EarthsMightiestPodcast.comFacebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/MercWithaPodcast/ Episodes #1-26 can be found @ Cultural Wormhole.com The Merc Report has now joined the EMP family of podcasts and has now become The Merc With a Podcast! -EXPLICIT CONTENT

Common Cause Wisconsin executive director Jay Heck joins to help explain the Wisconsin Supreme Court's Friday news dump before a Christmas weekend of the biggest news in the state, that new voting maps must be drawn. We discuss why that decision was made. We also hit on the rhetoric from Republicans being both against the decision and trying to side step the entire process. Also, Heck argued in the Christmas spirit that this is a good thing for democracy, while accusing Solem of being Ebenezer Scrooge, saying the conservative-led US Supreme Court will wreak havoc on this all and nothing will get done. UW-La Crosse political science professor, Dr. Anthony Chergosky joins. Broke down some middle-of-the-night votes by the Wisconsin state Legislature, ending childcare funding. Also discussed a couple conspiracy theories of Solem's on Gov. Tony Evers and the GOP Party convention, as well as the US Supreme Court. And we did have some fun with ways to get Chergosky's daughter to walk on her own, as well as a Reddit post about what purchases you shouldn't go cheap on. UW-La Crosse political science professor, Dr. Anthony Chergosky, in studio, and Wisconsin state Rep. Steve Doyle live from his parent's estate sale, where he's hoarding all his childhood belongings. We also get both their takes on the shared revenue deal. Began the show, however, talking about 4,000 people showing up to Thursday's Moon Tunes concert, the challenges that come with that and some half-baked solution ideas. Then we get Doyle from his parent's estate sale (they have moved out of their old home) and some of the things he's found in their two-car garage that couldn't retain any cars. We also talked about the local government funding plan announced Thursday, as well as where the state Legislature is at with a two-year budget. Lastly, we got Chergosky's take on some of the shared revenue, and the oddity Wisconsin Republicans go after Milwaukee, but also have agreed to hold the GOP National Convention there, as well as hold the first presidential debate. That led into not one, but two conspiracy theories Solem had on the matter.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

UW-La Crosse political science professor, Dr. Anthony Chergosky, in studio discussing stealing a $500 salad, MLB threatening Brewers leaving town, Ron DeSantis presidential run. Began the show talking about a couple of nonsense stories that we just don't have enough details about and crave more. One out of Illinois, where a man stole a backhoe to get to the airport. The other was a Georgia woman breaking into a restaurant and getting arrested after making a $500 salad. After that, stemming from an Eric from Sparta call, we discussed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis running for president. The second half of the show hovered around the politics of sports, where MLB's commissioner, more or less, threatened the Milwaukee Brewers could leave town if they don't get hundreds of millions in stadium funding. All that talk began when Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers preempted the GOP state Legislature on a Brewers funding proposal that has since been canned. This led to a conspiracy theory about Wisconsin Republicans and a Democratic governor in how a budget deal will never happen again. Also, with sports politics, the NFL is hosting the draft in Green Bay, and legislators there want millions to help the area prepare for the onslaught of people that come with that. Ended the show, potentially solving the mystery of the $500 salad. UW-La Crosse Outreach Specialist Spencer Wilken in studio with another segment of breaking news from decades ago -- this time about living with a dolphin -- as well as whether the Romans had potholes and her very popular Reddit thread on the moon landing. First, however, Wilken listened intently as Solem unwound from being off a week, and the news of Wisconsin Secretary of State resigning. Then we got into roundabout-construction season-pothole talk and how the Romans may have solved that dilemma. After that, some very weird news from the 1960s about dolphin research, taking what must have been a lot of LSD and subjecting a woman and a dolphin to living together in some kind of apartment. Lastly, we brought up Wilken's Reddit thread on the moon landing, as she prepares to get her doctorate in astrophysics.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
UW-La Crosse political science professor, Dr. Anthony Chergosky in studio to discuss the controversial release of Ranch Dressing ice cream, as well as Wisconsin politics in regards to dueling political tax plans and Legislature salaries and qualifications. Depending on your preference, either Chergosky or Solem had an extreme opinion on Ranch Dressing. Politically, the the tax cut plan discussion hovered around a new report was not favorable for either Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers or the GOP-led state Legislature proposals. And, in terms of the Legislature, we discussed how long they're in session, their ability to have a side-hustle, and the amount they get paid.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jeff and Matt are flying solo today as they explore Spin This, the 1998 album which found Danny Wilde briefly splitting away from his longtime songwriting partner Phil Solem. Billed as Danny Wilde + The Rembrandts, the record is an interesting entry in the group's overall discography and one which deserves a second look more than 20 years after its release. We examine the history of the Rembrandts in brief, taking a look at the series of events that found the Los Angeles group enjoying high times of major success with the Friends theme song . But they struggled to deal with that good fortune and Spin This was one result that emerged from the aftermath.Solem and Wilde happily resumed their partnership in 2000 and remain active to this day. Their most recent album, 2019's Via Satellite, deserves your ears.If you enjoy our program, please consider becoming a member of our Record Club on Patreon. The First World War marked the end point of a process of German globalization that began in the 1870s, well before Germany acquired a colonial empire or extensive overseas commercial interests. Structured around the figures of five influential economists who shaped the German political landscape, Professor of History, Erik Grimmer-Solem's Learning Empire: Globalization and the German Quest for World Status, 1875-1919 (Cambridge University Press, 2019), explores how their overseas experiences shaped public perceptions of the world and Germany's place in it. These men helped define a German liberal imperialism that came to influence the 'world policy' (Weltpolitik) of Kaiser Wilhelm, Chancellor Bülow, and Admiral Tirpitz. They devised naval propaganda, reshaped Reichstag politics, were involved in colonial and financial reforms, and helped define the debate over war aims in the First World War. Looking closely at German worldwide entanglements, Learning Empire recasts how we interpret German imperialism, the origins of the First World War, and the rise of Nazism, inviting reflection on the challenges of globalization in the current century. Grimmer-Solem, has written an imaginative and first-rate account of several aspects of Kaiserreich Germany's politics. No one will in the future look at Germany in this period without referencing this book. Charles Coutinho Ph. D. of the Royal Historical Society, received his doctorate from New York University. His area of specialization is 19th and 20th-century European, American diplomatic and political history. He has written for Chatham House's International Affairs, the Institute of Historical Research's Reviews in History and the University of Rouen's online periodical Cercles. This episode is all about the phenomenon known in Irish circles as «the session», which basically means a gathering of musicians playing Irish traditional music together in an informal way. Everyone that has been involved in Irish music, one way or another will be familiar with this. As any other social gathering, it comes with its own set of unwritten rules and etiquette, and that is something I find very interesting to observe. The need to process unbounded and continually streaming sources of data has become increasingly common. One of the popular platforms for implementing this is Kafka along with its streams API. Unfortunately, this requires all of your processing or microservice logic to be implemented in Java, so what's a poor Python developer to do? If that developer is Ask Solem of Celery fame then the answer is, help to re-implement the streams API in Python. In this episode Ask describes how Faust got started, how it works under the covers, and how you can start using it today to process your fast moving data in easy to understand Python code. He also discusses ways in which Faust might be able to replace your Celery workers, and all of the pieces that you can replace with your own plugins.
