In this episode of The Self Portrait Gospel Podcast, we wrap up the 7th season of the show with the wonderful oppurtunity to finally sit down with one of our harmonic heroes, the great Will Oldham of Bonnie "Prince" Billy. Someone who needs no introduction, Oldham has been on our hearts, and minds for many years as we spin a youthful yarn of memories and reflection on some of the world's greatest artists who are no longer with us, such as David Berman and Michael Hurley. Oldham breaks down his latest masterpiece "The Purple Bird," which was released earlier this year on No Quarter, as well as the back-to-back "High and High and Mighty," and the brilliant "Hear The Children Sing The Evidence" with fellow friends and musicians Nathan Salsburg and Tyler Trotter. We prasie our mutual friend, and incredible inspiration Ryan Davis, Bill Callahan, and cover Willie Nelson's abstract approach to guitar playing at this stage in his career. Oldham remains one of the most intense and softly sophisticated songwriters of his generation, with a career that has challenged the mind, body, and soul in ways that still stir the evidence of something extraterrestrial. We couldn't be more honored to occupy the same frame in history as him, and so many others out there doing brilliant work.
Boston was always a big Led Zeppelin town, starting back at the very beginning with the marathon Tea Party gigs, through this show right here. July 20, 1973 is the last time Zeppelin played Boston. The crowd is wild at this gig, so much so that the band eliminate Misty Mountain Hop, Since I've Been Loving You, and Moby Dick from the setlist. All to keep the crowd from going Chernobyl. No encores either. I play Celebration Day, a smokin' Stairway, and a brilliant No Quarter that presages the brilliance about to be recorded in NYC a week later.
“One's a dude, right? I want the one that's NOT the dude…” DOWN III: OVER THE UNDER, the 3rd studio offering from southern fried doom lords DOWN, has a very 70's centric feel from start to finish. From the songs and the production to the album cover, OVER THE UNDER might just be the most 70's influenced and 70's sounding DOWN album ever recorded. Time to fire up the “bowrider” and begin preparations for “The Dockside Sessions” coming later this summer. Discover why knowing the difference between a succubus and an incubus is critical when it comes to certain forms of somnia, remember that if you're learning guitar to always focus on your “fingering technique”, behold some outstanding metal from Australasia that's very “throaty”, and just accept the fact that “I don't know where they could have put it where I would have liked it” when you JOIN US as we take a trip through the heavier side of the 70's with DOWN III: OVER THE UNDER. This show, February 27, 1996, is the third to the last for Page/Plant's No Quarter tour, and it is smokin'! The band hasn't lost a step since their legendary Japanese shows of a few days prior. This is an excellent audience recording which maintains the high bar set in Japan, quality-wise. I play a ridiculously hot In The Evening, and the two encores which took the roof off the place. Black Dog and Rock and Roll. The latter two are sung with Robert Plant going alllllll out; hitting notes one doesn't expect. The band are in a great mood and the audience is locked in all the way. A great show with top of their game performances.

ANGELA PETRILLI Interview (with Matt & Rob) Angela is an LA based guitarist who fronts her great band, "The Players" They most recently released a live version of Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter" which will most certainly blow you away! We talked to Angela about the Netflix documentary "Norman's Rare Guitars". Angela is part of the documentary and she's a big part of Norman's Guitars with her "guitar of the week" videos and also instructional videos teaching guitar players some of the songs she absolutely loves. A new album is in the works from Angela Petrilli and the Players! In this interview we talk about Norman's, Zeparella, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Incubus, Martin Guitar and of course.. Guitars! ***** A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ANGELA PETRILLI Back in 2019 Angela lost her dear friend and bandmate Jennifer Pagliaro from stage 4 breast cancer. Angela was one half of the duo "Roses and Cigarettes" (with Jenny). That year they created some major buzz with their 3rd album "Echoes and Silence" and a tour in the works. On March 25th Rolling Stone named their song "Fast as I Can" as one of the 10 best country songs of the week. But in a heartbreaking and tragic turn of events, Pagliaro—who had been fighting off cancer for years—passed away the very next day. She was just 35. For the better part of a year, the grieving Petrilli put down her guitar, left L.A. behind and set out across the world. She traveled to Nashville, New York, Paris and Italy, eventually making it as far as Australia. Along the way, she spent a lot of time on the ocean, where she was able to find some peace and clarity. As she began to heal, she could feel her muse calling once again. Finally back home in L.A., she reached out to some musician friends and booked a bar gig under the name The Petrilli Players. The idea was to shake off the cobwebs, play some covers and have a good time—and that's exactly how it went down. With a reinvigorated sense of purpose, and a band of simpatico players—Brett Grossman on bass, Stephen Haaker on drums, Matt Lomeo on harmonica & backing vocals, Bobby Victor on keys, and Vic Vanacore III on percussion—Petrilli was inspired to start writing again. After several months playing shows around Los Angeles (including opening spots for Billy Bob Thornton & the Boxmasters, The Immediate Family, and a performance at Joe Bonamassa's 3rd Annual Stream-a-thon concert), the new songs felt studio-ready, and Petrilli booked a session at Hollywood's legendary Sunset Sound—the same hallowed ground that has hosted sessions by The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Janis Joplin, Van Halen, Ray LaMontagne and countless others. ************ You can find Angela on FB and Instagram. It's a little hard to stream, or nail down a specific track listing, but all the same, Shawn McGhee has returned to the show to discuss Jimmy Page and Robert Plant's No Quarter live album from 1994.
In which we attempt to slay another dragon, curiously without a traditional dungeon. MeMeMes: Page & Plant, No Quarter (album); The Marvels (film); The Batman (film); The Flash (film); Blue Beetle (film); Zack Snyder's Justice League (film?); ASH Season 10 (Double Feature) (tv); X-Men '97 (tv); Saltburn (film); Reacher (tv)
Though Rob is out because of some ongoing construction, Patrick, Janet, and Cado were lucky to find a suitable replacement: Austin Walker. Naturally, we must first address the breaking news of a Gundam series coming from the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion. But after that, it's several long discussions on Arctic Eggs, 1000xResist, NYU's recent No Quarter exhibition, Arco, Grunn, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. We talked about so many games that we had to cut the news section! But hey, we had some great questions about early access and puzzles.Discussed: Gundam News 3:58, Arctic Eggs 13:43, No Quarter 40:39, Arco 52:40, Grunn 59:52, 1000xResist 1:03:35, Dragon Age Veilguard 1:36:22, The Question Bucket 1:51:08, Outro and Announcements 2:43:40See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

As kids who were 7-8 years old when Led Zeppelin broke up and teenagers in the 80s when they had ill-fated reunions (Live Aid, Atlantic Records 40th), The Wolf & Action Jackson were resigned to the fact that Led Zeppelin would never tour again. So when Jimmy Page & Robert Plant announced in 1994 that they were reuniting to do a TV performance reworking classic Zeppelin material and introducing some new songs, we lost our minds. Gathering around the TV to see our heroes together in action was something that we'd dreamed about and we looked forward to hear how they would reword classics that we loved. The anticipation was met with a bit of ambivalence once we saw the setlist as it didn't include many of the big rockers that we loved. Instead, it focused on much of their acoustic catalog and slowing down great stompers into more mellow pieces. However, upon seeing the performance of these songs by these legends (and with an amazing cast of musicians) quickly changed our attitudes. Opening with the haunting No Quarter in the woods with Jimmy on acoustic 12 strings and Robert singing from the heart to open the video really set the tone. They stayed true to some like Since I've Been Loving You and What Is And What Should Never Be but reworked some (When The Levee Breaks, Nobody's Fault But Mine) into something unrecognizable. Still, the driving force of Gallows Pole and Battle of Evermore really let the material shine. And though they made some new music with folks in Morocco, none of it really lived up to LZ standards (though one new song Wonderful One could have fit well on LZIII or Houses of the Holy). Winding up with an orchestra behind them for classics like Kashmir just demonstrated the majesty inherent in the LZ catalog. Not only did we watch the video hundreds of times, but we got to see the boys on tour with their amazing band and an orchestra which we count among the most special concerts of our lives. Bonzo is the star of this show. Led Zeppelin in St. Paul, Minnesota July, 9, 1973 is a top tier NA 1973 show. Jimmy and Jonesy are on fire, but John Bonham is head and shoulders above them this night. He plays stuff I've not heard before, adding complexity to Heartbreaker and ingenuity to No Quarter and, and bombastic fire to Whole Lotta Love. The band playing at full tilt reminds one of a cheetah running at top speed in pursuit of prey. Absolute beauty and grace. I must confess, I have covered this show before (Ep. 206) but this recording is a brand new remaster by Dario Romero, and it's totally worth the repeat performance. The only repeated song is No Quarter, and it's totally worth the additional listen.

Send us a Text Message.Hi everybody and welcome to this week's episode of Attendance Bias. I am your host, Brian Weinstein. Today's special guest is a returning champion: Thom Epps, who was a guest on attendance bias way back in the summer of 2020, when the podcast was just getting off the ground. Somehow, with the excitement on my part of hosting a podcast, and Thom's excitement of being a guest on a podcast, his that early episode completely missed the point: Thom picked a show that he did not attend, and I didn't see anything wrong with that, even during the interview!Fast forward a couple of years, and when Thom and I saw one another at Atlantic City this past summer, he asked if he could redeem himself by coming back on the pod to talk about a show that he did attend. Of course he could and he is here today to talk about Phish's show from June 22, 2000 at the Amsouth Amphitheater in Antioch, TN–basically Nashville.I'd heard chunks of this show throughout the years, but never listened to it straight through. My focus was always on the special guests toward the end of the 2nd set, but there is so much more to appreciate here, including a bouncy version of Sand, a silky smooth 2001, and much more.So let's join Thom to talk about No Quarter, Einstein Bagels , and the zeitgeist in 2000 as we discuss June 22, 2000 in Nashville.

A new MP3 sermon from Pilgrim Devotion is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: Give No Quarter To Your Sin Subtitle: Devotions Speaker: Lawrence Blair Broadcaster: Pilgrim Devotion Event: Devotional Date: 6/29/2024 Bible: Hebrews 12 Length: 13 min.
It was a particularly newsy and seriously silly week. It was also the end of June which is also the end of the second quarter so, for most SEOs, it's reporting season. This year, reports are made more poignant knowing the end of June is also the end of the line for Universal Analytics data, which gets universally deleted on Monday at midnight. It's also the end of the June 2024 Google Spam Update, which concluded a few hours before this episode was recorded. Show hosts Jim Hedger and Kristine Schachinger talk about UA3 data, how to assess the Spam Update, the implications of OpenAI's purchase of the data analysis and indexing firm Rockset, Microsoft AI's craptastic views on the social contract of content, how Google Search measures its own quality, if AI can perform an effective and actionable technical SEO audit, and a whole lot more.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/webcology/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
This is an incredible recording from Saint Mike Millard on his blessed Nakamichi, of Led Zeppelin at the LA Forum on March 27, 1975. This is one of the legendary marathon shows, running more than 3 hours, in gorgeous full stereo. This is a fresh transfer made by JEMS and lightly mastered by DADGAD. It's a keeper for sure. I play a funky Over The Hills and Far Away and glorious improvisational No Quarter for us, as a taster for the full show, which is available below. Jonesy and Bonzo are perfectly synced in this amazing recording. You'll dig it.

Years from now, people will sing lusty songs of praise, and recall fondly where they were, when they heard this crossword's happy music, it was that tough. Blake Slonecker made solvers work for just about every answer, and your cohosts found it a major slog (fun slog, but still ... a slog). This episode is a request from long time friend and Patron, Other David. Second Knebworth holds a special place in his heart, and he requested I cover this show, which I happily did. We hear the last performance of No Quarter by the original 4 members, with some smooth and jazzy runs by Jimmy, and some almost chaotic chops by Jonesy. It's a unique performance, vibe-wise, and I like it. We also hear a fairly pensive Achilles Last Stand with Jimmy deep in thought during the solo, and it also has a unique vibe, which is helped by the audience recording (Galactic Messiah from EVSD). We finish up with Whole Lotta Love with the new arrangement, as well as a rollicking boogie section. Good stuff. Great Band.
In this episode Ryan and Dr. Brad talk coinage trends, probability, and youth culture before segueing into accounts of an ancient Mesopotamian demon whose victims were always taken on the commode inflagrante delicto. This show is amazing. The sound quality is bassy with some distortion but DADGAD does a great job balancing this into a paradoxically well balanced/bass heavy recording. The music is magical and the band are locked and playing well. Jimmy's control and technique are in top form and all the musicians are listening, and responding, to each other as they jam. Magic is a word that applies here. I play a fun and tight In My Time of Dying and the longest No Quarter on record (33 minutes!), and it's amazing!

On the 5th Episode of Shout It Out Loudcast's sidecast, The Zeppelin Chronicles, our hosts, Tom & Zeus, along with SIOL sidekick Murph and Jay Scott from The Hook Rocks podcast, review the classic 1973 album, "Houses Of The Holy." Houses Of The Holy sees Led Zeppelin once again changing their style. The band tries, progressive rock, reggae, psychedelic, funk and more. The album contains live staples, like The Rain Song, The Song Remains The Same and No Quarter. Songs like The Ocean, Dancing Days, Over The Hills And Far Away and D'yer Mak'er are constantly heard on classic rock radio. Houses Of The Holy went to Number 1 in the USA and went 11 times platinum in the United States. The album cover is extremely unique and always warrants and excellent discussion. The Zeppelin Chronicles breaks down Houses Of The Holy, SIOL style. The guys discuss their connection with the album, the background of the album, the album cover and finally the songs. They rank the songs, then rank the album and album cover against the four previous Led Zeppelin albums reviewed. So although upon us all a little rain must fall lets find our Dancing Days! Nik is a seasoned drummer that has been playing with Empire Strikes Brass for the past 8 years. https://www.empirestrikesbrass.com/ You can see him play with members of ESB at the Asheville Music Hall One Stop for the early jam every Tuesday night at 7pm. A good place to get into a musical situation with very capable players in a welcoming setting. https://www.ashevillemusichall.com/His taste is eclectic and he gets to showcase different styles with ESB and other groups in the area. As at home on second-line brass ensembles as he is playing reggae, Middle Eastern percussion, Led Zeppelin covers, and soul. See my IG page @drummermindset for video of their No Quarter cover. He pays attention to the new talent that seems to come through Asheville regularly. Not just that but he is clearly a fan and uses his time on the pod to recognize those that impress and inspire him. A committed family man, he also shares the importance of being there for his family and sharing the healing nature of music. He has recently been recognized as an official Lake Eden Arts Festival (LEAF) musician and will be starting drum corps with them very soon. We hear Led Zeppelin in Vancouver BC July 18, 1973 in all their glory. This show is unique in that they had to stop early and take Robert to the hospital (they said) because he was tripping balls on LSD and after Stairway was done. The show is still brilliant and we hear Misty Mountain Hop-->Since I've Been Loving You, and a sublime No Quarter, as well as the announcement about Robert's condition.
Will and Chuck are joined by "Different Dude" author and former Clippers Summer League great Rod Benson to talk the Clippers outlook after 20 games of .500 ball, the evolution of the NBA's rules on big men, and how much your hosts owe to the "Give No Quarter" fund. Also, Adam is still keeping receipts, so be on your toes.

We hear from Led Zeppelin's penultimate night of their 6 night run at Madison Square Garden, with a nice 3 source merge. I play Over The Hills, Going to California, and No Quarter (with a little Mary Poppins) to give a nice overview of the show. Good stuff all around. Loud and aggressive.

We hear a tasty DADGAD remaster of the classic TMOQ vinyl of Led Zeppelin in Seattle July 17, 1973. This is a truly enjoyable audience recording and I play Since I've Been Loving You, No Quarter, and The Rain Song. Beautiful.
This is one of the best nights of Led Zeppelin's 1975 US tour. March 12, 1975 in Long Beach has all four cylinders blazing. We hear a fresh transfer from the 3rd Source master tapes, and they sound great! A supernal No Quarter and Heartbreaker are heard; the latter containing a rockin' I'm A Man jam. This is a magic night.
We're back this week to dive deep into the discography of one of the greatest rock bands of all time, Led Zeppelin. Specifically, we'll be exploring their albums released between 1969 and 1973, picking our favorite and least favorite songs from each. Led Zeppelin, the iconic rock band formed in 1968, released their self-titled debut album in 1969. The album featured a diverse range of rock and blues-influenced tracks, showcasing the band's talent and establishing their unique sound. The album opens with the energetic "Good Times Bad Times" and includes other standout tracks like "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You," "Dazed And Confused," and "Communication Breakdown." Led Zeppelin's debut album set the stage for their future success and solidified their status as one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Led Zeppelin II - 1969 Following the success of their debut, Led Zeppelin released their second album, Led Zeppelin II, later in 1969. The album featured a heavier sound and showcased the band's growth as songwriters and performers. It includes the iconic track "Whole Lotta Love," along with other notable songs such as "What Is and What Should Never Be," "Heartbreaker," and "Ramble On." Led Zeppelin II further established the band's dominance in the rock music scene and demonstrated their ability to create powerful and memorable rock anthems. Led Zeppelin III - 1970 In 1970, Led Zeppelin released their third studio album, Led Zeppelin III. This album showcased a more acoustic and folk-influenced sound compared to their previous releases. It includes tracks like "Immigrant Song," "Since I've Been Loving You," and "Gallows Pole," which blend the band's signature rock sound with elements of folk and blues. Led Zeppelin III displayed the band's versatility and willingness to experiment with different musical styles, earning critical acclaim and further expanding their fan base. Led Zeppelin IV - 1971 Led Zeppelin's fourth album, commonly known as Led Zeppelin IV or untitled, was released in 1971 and became one of the band's most iconic and commercially successful albums. It features the legendary track "Stairway to Heaven," a monumental rock epic that has become one of the most celebrated songs in rock history. The album also includes other hits such as "Black Dog," "Rock and Roll," and "When the Levee Breaks." Led Zeppelin IV solidified the band's status as rock legends and remains a classic album revered by fans and musicians alike. Houses of the Holy - 1972 In 1972, Led Zeppelin released their fifth studio album, Houses of the Holy. The album continued to push the boundaries of their sound, incorporating elements of funk, reggae, and even orchestral arrangements. Tracks like "The Song Remains the Same," "The Rain Song," and "No Quarter" showcased the band's musical maturity and their ability to create dynamic and atmospheric compositions. Houses of the Holy further cemented Led Zeppelin's reputation as one of the most innovative and influential rock bands of their time.
