In this episode, we dive into the "Sunday Blues" – that overwhelming, anxious, and sometimes dreadful feeling that hits at the end of the weekend. As mothers, we're constantly thinking ahead, and Sundays often signal the start of the week's challenges, especially if you're a working mom with school-aged kids. Mondays can feel like a wave of exhaustion and stress as the full weight of the new week settles in. But how can we fix this and curb the Sunday Blues? Here's what we cover in this episode: Identifying the Stressors: What exactly about the upcoming week is causing that Sunday dread? Whether it's early mornings, the kids resisting school, or the overwhelming workload, pinpointing the source is the first step to relieving stress. Building Routines: Establishing consistent routines helps minimize decision-making and creates a sense of flow, even on weekends. Why keeping the same morning and evening routines all week can keep anxiety at bay. Creating a Schedule: Schedules give structure to our routines. We discuss how scheduling your daily activities, even loosely, can reduce the chaos and create stability. Planning Ahead: We talk about the importance of planning, including using the 5 W's (Who, What, When, Where, and Why) to make life more organized and manageable. Plus, how writing things down (instead of keeping it all in your head) can make everything run smoother. We also touch on a key reminder: consistency is your friend. Breaking routines over the weekend can make Monday mornings feel even more daunting, so maintaining similar structures across all seven days can help reduce the Sunday Blues. Action Step: This week, do a time audit to assess how you're spending your time. Download the time audit tool linked in the show notes and track your activities from today through Saturday to better understand where adjustments are needed for smoother days ahead. Tune in to discover how small shifts in routines, schedules, and planning can make Sundays a lot more manageable – and even enjoyable! The Joyful DVM Podcast - Encouraging and Empowering Veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Teams to create Joyf

In this episode, Dr. Cari Wise discusses the phenomenon of "Sunday Scaries" or "Sunday Blues," which refers to the feelings of anxiety and dread that many individuals experience when they have a day off from work but spend it worrying about returning to work. Dr. Wise  shares personal experiences of feeling overwhelmed and drained by these emotions, particularly as a practice owner who works long hours. She explains how the brain tends to dwell on past regrets and future worries, creating a cycle of negative emotions. The importance of being present in the moment and consciously redirecting focus towards positive activities during days off is emphasized. Dr. Wise suggests setting goals for enjoyable activities, following through on self-commitments, and breaking the habit of constantly thinking about work. By taking charge of one's focus and emotional wellbeing, individuals can combat the Sunday Scaries and improve their overall quality of life. The Vet Life Academy program, which teaches participants how to use neuroscience to shape their own experiences and regain control over their emotional wellbeing, is recommended.Resources: ⭐Get The Alternative Career Guide for Veterinary Professionals: Create A Career Tailored to You! https://joyfuldvm.com/jobguide⭐Join VetMed;JOY CLUB: Elevate Your Life & Veterinary Career Experiencehttps://joyfuldvm.com/joyclub⭐Listen to The Joyful DVM Podcast: Be Inspired by Empowering Perspectives on Navigating Life as A Veterinary Professionalhttps://joyfuldvm.com/podcast⭐Join VET LIFE ACADEMY: Transform Your Veterinary Life & Career from the inside outhttps://joyfuldvm.com/vetlifeacademy⭐Learn How to Support Your Organization and Enhance Employee Wellbeinghttps://joyfuldvm.com/organizationsFollow me:Website: https://joyfuldvm.comLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/18257625/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/joyfuldvm/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/JoyfulDVMTwitter: https://twitter.com/JoyfulDVMPinterest: https://www.pinterest.es/joyfuldvm/Music Credit: Music by Lesfm from Pixabay

Insomma sarà una lotta collettiva contro il Sunday Blues; la tristezza della fine del fine settimana. In this episode of The Habit Coach podcast's Hot Seat series, we explore the phenomenon of Sunday blues - the feeling of sadness or anxiety that many people experience on Sunday evenings with the thought of starting a new week. Our host Ashdin Doctor examines why people often feel this way, attributing it to the upcoming Monday and the prospect of returning to a job they dislike. To combat these negative feelings, he suggests asking ourselves some key questions to reflect on why we are not enjoying our week and what changes we can make to improve our situation. Further, he encourages viewers to incorporate one fun activity into their Monday routine, creating something to look forward to each week. He also discusses the benefits of journaling to identify and process any negative thoughts or feelings that may be contributing to our Sunday blues. Finally, offers the pro tip of planning self-care or enjoyable activities for the upcoming weekend and even incorporating some of those fun weekend activities into our weekdays to make life more enjoyable.Send your questions to Ashdin Doctor for The Habit Coach Hot Seat/ Know Your Coach on this link: (Habit Coach Hot Seat ) You can watch the full video episodes of The Habit Coach Podcast with Ashdin Doctor on the YouTube channel. The Sunday Blues can be a mystery for professionals working a typical weekday job.The Sunday Blues can also be an opportunity for us to take something that we think is as inevitable as the order of the days on a calendar and question everything about it.To be clear, the goal of this episode is NOT to train you on how to get rid of the Sunday Blues or turn it into feeling 100% positive and joyful every Sunday at 7pm.  The goal of this episode is to use something that can be universally experienced as an example of how you can take a habitual way of feeling and start using your brain to make conscious decisions to feel it on purpose or to choose to feel a different way. This episode is about empowerment.  This talk is about how you can take something seemingly small and not harmful, like the Sunday Blues, and practice creating different feelings with your thoughts.Don't be caught without a plan. This episode is jam packed with ways to create emotions for your future.  Specifically, I uncover some of my personal experiences with the Sunday blues and how depressing my thoughts used to be about returning to school after a long break.Do you ever experience this?  The longing for just one more day, one more weekend or one more week off before we have to go back? You're not alone. And I will guide you through an exercise in this episode to uncover some of these thoughts and beliefs that are creating the negative side of being a teacher with more time off than the average Jane!Mentioned in this episode is an insightful article from NPR, written by Michaeleen Doucleff, as she spoke with Michelle Shiota, a psychologist at Arizona State University and an expert on emotions.Find the full article here:https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2021/06/29/1010319240/stuck-in-a-rut-sometimes-joy-takes-a-little-practiceThe write-up includes a scenario where someone encounters a bear in the forest, which automatically reminded me of the comedy bit by Jim Gaffigan.  But we use this scenario for our purposes of illustrating the link between our brains and our emotions, particularly in the fight or flight response.  As a teacher, I like to point out that this is where our background knowledge and schema play a part in the formation of our thoughts, which leads to feelings. And from there, we enter into the awareness that, if our thoughts create our feelings, then WE are the creators of not only the Sunday Blues, but our attitudes and feelings when we are walking back up to our school buildings and classrooms on the Monday after a nice long break. If you're wanting more of this kind of work because you have uncovered some stinkin' thinkin' in regards to being a teacher (which we all have, by the way), join us inside The Teacher Mindset Coach Facebook Group at www.facebook.com/groups/teachermindsetcoachInside this free group, we will have fun working through The Joy Jumpstart Program which gives WAY more detail and WAY more practice in taking care of the person who is most important to take care of this holiday season...
