Have you ever considered that every day holds the potential for a fresh start, not just January 1st? Join me, Phil Barker, here at Grapevine Ministries, as we unlock the power of new beginnings in faith, at any time of the year. As we traverse through life's peaks and valleys, from career challenges to marital hurdles, we often stumble upon moments that seem like dead ends. But I'm here to share a hopeful message: these stumbling blocks can become stepping stones. By embracing the abundant life Jesus offers, as promised in John 10:10, and stepping into the new creation He enables us to be, as per 2 Corinthians 5:17, we can cast off the shackles of our past failures. Remember, the windshield is always larger than the rearview mirror; it's time to focus forward on the path God has laid before us.
Phil Barker is the author of The Revolution of Man, a manifesto for a new masculinity, a manhood that is positive, healthy and safe.As a regular commentator and columnist on men's issues, he came to see the “performance of being a man, from the moment we open our eyes to our last breath, is damaging us and those around us.”Phil found the suicide and domestic violence statistics he encountered, as he wrote, so horrific he began a discovery of a better masculinity that eventually became The Revolution of Man.He writes and speaks on almost every element of masculinity – from suicide to domestic violence, porn to parenting, food to fatherhood, sex, relationships, our bodies … and everything in between. Who Killed Australian Magazines, Phil Barker tracks the highs and lows of Australia magazines' journey from prince to pauper. From the bad content deals to a lack of understanding of the Australian market and a failure to prepare for the future, this book brings together all the sordid details, the downfalls that didn't need to happen, and the great characters that defined Australian magazines. In this episode Gregory Dobbs chats to Phil Barker about the golden age of Australian magazines in the 1990s, the largesse and the excess of an industry at its peak, the challenges of the digital world that were barely met, and casualties and the survivors of a once great industry.

There was a time before the internet when your local tackle shop would be the place where you could get the latest fishing information along with news of a new rod or line that had just come to the market. My local tackle shop at the time was Simpsons of Turnford located just up the A10 outside of London. The game fishing department was run by Phil Barker who I spent most Saturdays speaking with him about fishing along with topping up with some new tackle if I needed it or sometimes, even if I didn't.We talk about how a shop worked, the importance of a personal service and whether we are missing this in a price only driven market place.
A huge thank you to the OE Global community for awarding our project a 2021 Open Education Award of Excellence for Reuse/ Remix/ Adaptation. for the 25 Years of EdTech: The Serialized Audio Version. From the OE Global Awards team: The award was given to the project in the “Open Reuse/Remix/Adaptation” category and, according to the adjudicators, the project is an outstanding example of the power of OER reuse for the following reasons; Remixing the physical book into an audiobook has increased accessibility by providing the text in an alternate format. Drawing together the open education community around the reading of the text sparked the companion “Between the Chapters” podcast, providing a deeper dive and critical analysis by experts into the topic of each chapter. This has added an additional layer of richness to the original book. The weekly podcast release schedule, and accompanying critical analysis created a fundamentally new way to experience the book – slower and in bitesize chunks. Each episode of the main recording or the companion podcast also now exists as an OER available for future use / reuse. This was a project that could not have happened without an openly licensed book so thank you @mweller & @au_press -- thank you so much! This is just a quick thank you speech (in podcast format, of course) from Laura and Clint. And a huge thank you to all the volunteers who voiced and/or guested as part of the project. What is broken inside men that is causing the death of more than one woman a week in Australia? Phil Barker is a Sydney-based columnist, public speaker and author. He is a former magazine editor and publisher of titles such as Vogue, GQ, Delicious, InsideOut, and Donna Hay. When he's not working his day job, as a consultant creative director and communications specialist, Phil is writing and speaking, to start conversations on what has become a personal crusade - positive masculinity and being a better man. The Revolution of Man is his first book. Tune into our first episode of season 2 as Phil delves into what he believes drives men to violence and abuse, why there's hope men can turn around, and how we can end family violence.
Dubai staged the first ever Beach Games where Team GB won two medals in the men's Kitefoil and women's Beach football - but where next? We've a special report with Phil Barker from InsidetheGames.Biz
Banjo player Jesse Langlais chuckled when he first saw the question about Town Mountain as a bluegrass finishing school. It is true that the band has had a lot of members come and go over their 11+ years, and many have done quite well after their tenure in this five piece from Asheville, NC. It is also true that once you are Town Mountain member, there is a reunion somewhere in your future. There is never a last ride in the van: once you play in the band, you are like family. Arthur Grimes buck dances with Town Mountain at MerleFest in 2018 As tightly knit and warm as they are, there is also an edge and a swagger to Town Mountain. All five members are well versed in the bluegrass tradition, but they also have some rock and roll in them, and the dexterity to weave these influences together seamlessly. With the addition of drums, and a song co-written by and featuring Tyler Childers on their latest album New Freedom Blues, they show their ability to stay true to the music of icons like Bill Monroe and Jimmy Martin while building something altogether new. I spoke with Jesse, mandolin player Phil Barker and bassist Zach Smith, their producer Caleb Klauder and others in this episode which features album tracks and live tunes from the band. Plus, a wee bit of The Police and R.E.M. It really does make sense once you hear it, we promise. Thanks to the friendly folks at The Bywater in Asheville for hosting our interview session, to Sarah Bennett at All Eyes Media for helping set up the interview and for being on the show herself, and to Caleb Klauder and Jerry McNeely for taking the time to talk with me also. Thanks to Osiris for carrying us on their network, and to Bluegrass Planet Radio for airing this series too. We appreciate everyone who listens, and especially those who spread awareness for this series and the artists and music professionals we profile. Giving us a good rating and comment on podcast platforms like Apple Podcast makes us quite grateful, and we would count you as a total rock star if you joined us as a patron or sponsor. Next up? A bit of a departure, as we take a deep dive into the song “Wagon Wheel” and talk with artists who played it. Drop us a line if you have a story to tell! - Joe Kendrick
Town Mountain is an independent-minded steward of classic bluegrass, but their take on Appalachian music is infused with a modern-day feel that allows the group freedom of expression. With Town Mountain's newest album, New Freedom Blues, the band discovered a way to build off their past to craft something new and exciting, and so authentic in terms of who they are as musicians and as people. Banjo/vocalist Jesse Langlais, mandolin/vocalist Phil Barker, and bass player Zach Smith share what life on the road means to the band, change, bluegrass and how their creative process unfolds.
Born in Salisbury, MD in 1934, Phil Barker never expected to go to college. Although poor, his childhood was rich in experiences. He and his friends were creative and ambitious. He shares the story of learning to drive - literally - while taking his driver's test! Do you know what 'doffing' is... keep listening. A bit of history on the ASA and it's role in Korean War He returned to DuPont in Seaford, Delaware and realized he wanted more than factory work. Taking advantage of the G.I.
