The AI processed the documents and created a conversation. They sound human, but they are not. They say "we" as though they are human beings who teach and work with us; they do not. In fact, they picked up on my LU Monday Moment podcast closing (Happy Teaching!) without knowing anything except my prompt. It took multiple prompts to get to this analysis; it is not a simple feed it information and go when it is for an audience. However - it feels amazing to listen to it! I did prompt it to clarify that it is AI and not human as a best practice. What can we learn about sustainability from the insect world? This episode explores the fascinating dynamics of honeybees and desert locusts, revealing how these two vastly different communities manage stress, allocate work, make decisions, and communicate. Sustainability expert David Auge shares insights from his book, "Man's Search for Sustainability," highlighting how honeybees exemplify order and collective effort, while desert locusts thrive in chaos and individualism. By examining these contrasting behaviors, David challenges us to rethink our approaches to sustainability and inspires us to find new ways to balance our future decisions. Join host Michael Herst as they delve into the lessons these insects offer for a more sustainable future. The podcast delves into the intriguing world of sustainability through the lens of two vastly different insect communities—the honeybee and the desert locust. Host Michael Hurst engages with sustainability expert David Oer, who brings over three decades of experience in environmental management to the discussion. The episode explores how honeybees operate with remarkable order and discipline, showcasing their ability to allocate tasks, communicate effectively, and maintain a balanced ecosystem within their hives. In contrast, the desert locust represents a more chaotic yet equally successful approach to survival. Oer emphasizes that while humans often view these insects through a binary lens—seeing honeybees as virtuous and locusts as pests—there are valuable lessons to be gleaned from both extremes. By understanding how these communities manage stress and make decisions, listeners are encouraged to rethink their approaches to sustainability, ultimately finding a balance between structure and chaos that can guide us toward a more sustainable future.Takeaways: Sustainability is a journey of learning from both honeybees and desert locusts. Honeybees illustrate the importance of organization, communication, and collective effort in communities. Desert locusts highlight how chaos and individual effort can drive growth and opportunity. Observation of nature can inform our understanding of sustainable practices and community dynamics. The contrast between honeybees and locusts reveals different approaches to managing stress. David Oer emphasizes the significance of understanding sustainability as a normative concept. Memorizing Pharmacology Podcast: Prefixes, Suffixes, and Side Effects for Pharmacy and Nursing Pharmacology by Body System

Free book is here at https://www.memorizingpharm.com/books In this episode we return to turning the open educational nursing resource for nursing pharmacology into audio, we'll start with the 1st edition antimicrobials then move on to the new second edition with the next topic.  Summary of OER 3.2 Antimicrobial Basics: Antimicrobials are drugs designed to kill or inhibit the growth of harmful microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. These medications are vital in the treatment of infections, and they work based on the principle of selective toxicity—targeting the harmful organism without damaging the host's cells. Antimicrobials are classified into two main types: Bactericidal agents – these drugs kill microorganisms. Bacteriostatic agents – these inhibit the growth of microorganisms, allowing the immune system to eliminate them. The effectiveness of antimicrobials relies on proper dosing and duration of therapy. Incorrect use, such as taking doses that are too low or stopping the medication prematurely, can lead to antimicrobial resistance. This resistance occurs when microbes evolve mechanisms to survive the antimicrobial action, making infections harder to treat. Antimicrobial resistance is a significant public health concern, requiring careful prescription and use of these drugs. Additionally, different classes of antimicrobials have varying mechanisms of action, such as disrupting the cell wall, interfering with protein synthesis, or inhibiting essential metabolic processes within the microorganism. Multiple Choice Quiz Questions: What is the primary function of bactericidal agents? A) Inhibit the growth of microorganisms B) Strengthen the host's immune system C) Kill microorganisms D) Prevent microbial resistance Answer: C) Kill microorganisms What is selective toxicity? A) The ability of a drug to harm only the pathogen, not the host B) A process that increases the growth of bacteria C) A condition in which the drug becomes toxic to the host cells D) The need for selective use of drugs in specific patient groups Answer: A) The ability of a drug to harm only the pathogen, not the host Which of the following is a key factor in preventing antimicrobial resistance? A) Reducing the dosage of antimicrobials B) Stopping antibiotics when symptoms improve C) Completing the full course of prescribed antibiotics D) Avoiding the use of antibiotics altogether Answer: C) Completing the full course of prescribed antibiotics How do bacteriostatic agents work? A) By killing bacteria directly B) By inhibiting bacterial growth and allowing the immune system to act C) By destroying the host's immune cells D) By neutralizing the immune response Answer: B) By inhibiting bacterial growth and allowing the immune system to act Which of the following is NOT a mechanism of action for antimicrobials? A) Disrupting the cell wall of the microorganism B) Enhancing the microorganism's metabolic processes C) Inhibiting protein synthesis in pathogens D) Blocking essential metabolic pathways in microorganisms Answer: B) Enhancing the microorganism's metabolic processes

Our Global Macro Strategist explains the complex nature of recent U.S. economic reports, and which figures should matter most to investors.----- Transcript -----Welcome to Thoughts on the Market. I'm Matthew Hornbach, Morgan Stanley's Global Head of Macro Strategy. Along with my colleagues bringing you a variety of perspectives, today I'll talk about what investors should take away from recent economic data. It's Thursday, February 29, at 4pm in New York. There's been a string of confusing US inflation reports recently, and macro markets have reacted with vigor to the significant upside surprises in the data. Before these inflation reports, our economists thought that January Personal Consumption Expenditures inflation, or PCE inflation, would come at 0.23 per cent for the month. On the back of the Consumer Price Index inflation report for January, our economists increased their PCE inflation forecast to 0.29 per cent month-over-month. Then after the Producers' Price Index, or PPI inflation report, they revised that forecast even higher – to 0.43 per cent month-over-month. Today, core PCE inflation actually printed at 0.42 per cent - very close to our economists' revised forecast. That means the economy produced nearly twice as much inflation in January as our economists thought it would originally. The January CPI and PPI inflation reports seem to suggest that while inflation is off the record peaks it had reached, the path down is not going to be smooth and easy. Now, the question is: How much weight should investors put on this data? The answer depends on how much weight Federal Open Market Committee participants place on it. After all, the way in which FOMC participants reacted to activity data in the third quarter of 2023 – which was to hold rates steady despite encouraging inflation data – sent US Treasury yields sharply higher.Sometimes data is irrational. So we would take the recent inflation data with a grain of salt. Let me give you an example of the divergence in recent data that's just that – an outlying number that investors should treat with some skepticism. The Bureau of Labor Statistics, or BLS, calculates two measures of rent for the CPI index: Owner's equivalent rent, or OER, and rents for primary residences. Both measures use very similar underlying rent data. But the BLS weights different aspects of that rent data differently for OER than for rents.OER increased by 0.56 per cent month-over-month in January, while primary residence rents increased 0.36 per cent month-over-month. This is extremely rare. If the BLS were to release the inflation data every day of the year, this type of discrepancy would occur only twice in a lifetime – or every 43 years. The confusing nature of recent economic data suggests to us that investors should interpret the data as the Fed would. Our economists don't think that recent data changed the views of FOMC participants and they still expect a first rate cut at the June FOMC meeting. All in all, we suggest that investors move to a neutral stance on the US treasury market while the irrationality of the data passes by.Thanks for listening. The US personal consumer expenditure deflator remains in disinflation. Durable goods prices sank ever deeper into deflation. Market-based prices showed disinflation, as did services excluding financial service (financial service prices often follow market valuation). There was an intensely technical clarification about calculating owners' equivalent rent—price no real person pays or cares about, but which excites economists. The clarification makes it unlikely OER will add more to inflation this year.

In this episode of The A to Z English Podcast, Xochitl and Jack discuss the differences between your and you're.Transcript:00:00:00JackWelcome to the A-Z English podcast. My name is Jack and I'm here with my co-host social. And today we are back in the grammar zone and social. Today we're looking at.00:00:13JackTwo homophones that are commonly confused, especially in writing, and that because they sound the same, so it doesn't matter when you're speaking, but when you're writing, they're actually spelled differently. It's your and your.00:00:30JackAnd so let's start with YOUR your what? What's the part of what part of speech is it? What does it mean? And can you give us an example?00:00:41XochitlYour is possessive. It indicates possession of something. So is that your breakfast? Is that your bottle of water? Like you're asking someone. Does that belong to you? You know, and so.00:01:00XochitlIt just indicates possession, essentially. That's why OER.00:01:02JackRight and.00:01:04JackFor the subject would be you, you, your it was like I my he, his, she, her. You. You're like that it's just it's just the possessive pronoun for the pronoun you you know.00:01:14XochitlYeah, you. Yes.00:01:19JackWhat about your YOU apostrophe re?00:01:24XochitlUMYOU apostrophe RE litter is a contraction of U&R which are two different 2 words. They're combined together with an apostrophe, so a lot of people get confused because in English we also use apostrophes to show possession like you would say Jack apostrophe S jacks.00:01:45XochitlThis Jacks laptop, so I think it gets confusing for students because YOU apostrophe RE. It seems like ohh there's an apostrophe there, it must indicate possession, but it doesn't. Apostrophes are often used in contractions which are when you combine two separate words and make them one word in the English language.00:02:07XochitlAnd this is 1 staple of native speakers is that we speak with a lot of contractions which can be confusing for students and non-native speakers as well.00:02:17JackYes. Yeah, that's you made some great points there.00:02:22JackI think the the best way to to kind of tell if if it's wrong is to break it into two words. So if you're saying like is this your computer and you spell it, YOU apostrophe RE separate those and say you are is this UR computer.00:02:41JackAnd then you think about that sentence makes no sense at all.00:02:44JackRight. Is this you are computer? No. It would you say? Is this your computer? YOUR because it's a possession. Not meaning you R. And so I think that I don't know. That's how I've always done it. You know, just if you separate the just take away the contraction.00:03:04JackAnd then if the sentence makes sense, you're OK. If the sentence is crazy like.00:03:11JackYou know you are. He is sitting in you are seat, you know. Then you know that something is wrong. No, he is sitting in your seat. Then it's then it's correct.00:03:24XochitlYeah, I think that's probably the best way to remember. As Jack said, just separate them out. And yeah, if this makes sense to you, if you have any other grammar questions that you would like to ask us, make sure to leave a comment down below at A-Z, englishpodcast.com, shoot Jack Ryan e-mail at AZ englishpodcast@gmail.com.00:03:45XochitlOr join the WeChat and WhatsApp groups to join our conversation and we'll see you guys next time. For homeowners in most of the US, inflation in reality (excluding OER) is around 2%—bad luck if you live in Texas or Florida, where it is approaching 5%.

Today's Post - https://bahnsen.co/454dv7h A tad to my surprise CPI came in even lower than expected (+3.2% vs. consensus estimates of +3.3%). The core rate was +4.7% as anticipated. On the month, prices ex-food, ex-energy and ex-the B.S. shelter figure were down -0.1%. Within that +3.2% the shelter component was up +7.8%, as the model shows OER (owner's equivalent rent) up +7.7% on the year and Rentals of primary residence up +8%. Uh huh. Core goods prices are up +0.8% on the year. +0.8%. The annualized total CPI from the last three months even with the bad shelter data is +1.9%. Shelter is overstating headline inflation by 30% and core inflation by 40% (and I actually think it is mor than that). Month-to-month data is moved by base effects of the year prior and energy prices. As for energy prices, it looks like much of the oil and gas surge was late July and not as captured in this month's data as I would have expected. Two years ago this exact week the S&P was at 4,450 or so. Fast forward to today, the S&P is at 4,450 or so. But the 10-year yield was 1.32% and is now 4.02%. Would anyone guess that a near tripling of the bond yield would leave the market flat? Now, the Nasdaq is down -8.3% over the last two years, but still, you get the idea. Sometimes facts make no sense unless you have the gift of hindsight. Be careful about applying an investment conclusion to your forward-looking premises. As I always say, it will be hard enough for your premises to come true. It will be even harder for the conclusions that come from your premises to prove accurate. Headline and core CPI both higher in April, largely in line with expectations, with the big takeaway seemingly the slowdown in core services excluding OER and rent to just 0.1%. The print supportive of Fed pause expectations but also Fed's higher-for-longer messaging. Debt ceiling stalemate another key topic for the market, with speculation that the most likely path revolves around a short-term reprieve that gives time to negotiate a budget deal that includes spending cuts, providing a "win" for both sides.

Our guest this week was David Cervantes, founder of Pine Brook Capital Management. With a rich and diverse background within the investment industry, in the last few years David has dedicated his time to managing his family office and has been developing a macroeconomic framework that considers the objectives and incentives of policymakers as the primary economic drivers. Our conversation included topics such as: Empirical economic analyses and insights from the ‘school of hard knocks' Fundamentally, a process of elimination – determining first what not to do Less theory, more data Where his approach materially diverges from traditional economics Cognitive Perspective – treating models with respect, but never reverence Macroeconomics is basically ‘political economy in drag' A dynamic process of incentives and decisions made by political actors The role of ‘timing luck' (or misfortune) A stroll down history lane – from WWII and the Great Society to the present A closer look at the gargantuan US federal budget deficit Current backdrop – an ‘inflationary supernova' fueled by fiscal impulse The Fed's current reaction function Home prices, OER and how they affect CPI Why interest rate volatility matters significantly more than absolute levels How interest rate vol spills over into the risk premia continuum And much more This is “ReSolve's Riffs” – live on YouTube every Friday afternoon to debate the most relevant investment topics of the day, hosted by Adam Butler, Mike Philbrick and Rodrigo Gordillo of ReSolve Global* and Richard Laterman of ReSolve Asset Management Inc.   *ReSolve Global Inc. refers to ReSolve Asset Management SEZC (Cayman) which is registered with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission as a commodity trading advisor and commodity pool operator.
